Future FamilyJul 31, 2023
ep 54 / present
Blake, Tanner, and Cody go a little long talking some changes they've made in the last few years and what they love about their lives right now.
episode 53 / past
Looking back on Future Family's podcast journey.
episode 52 / fatherhood and family with preston perry
The wonderful Preston Perry joins the guys to give some of his wisdom on fatherhood and family. I know, that's what the title says, but I had to type it twice just to make sure it was real. Hit play and take notes.
episode 51 / diverse library with ashley williams
Click play and follow along through the entire conversation to hear us talk about the need to engage with diverse reading when it comes to theology (and what theology even is).
Listen and let us know what you think!
episode 50 / wow
Wow. Who let us have a podcast?
Here's to fifty episodes, and to many more.
We hope you get a chance to listen to us reminisce over our first fifty episodes and what they've meant to us.
We love you all.
episode 49 / a book review
Some of you will love this episode. Some of you will not. (Actually, that could be true about every episode.)
In this episode, we discuss Tim Keller's book--The Reason for God. If you've read the book or not, by hitting play on this episode you will hear us talk about what the book covers, our likes and dislikes, our praises and our critiques of what has been considered an essential read among Christians for over ten years.
If you have further thoughts or questions about the book or anything in general, you can message us through our website.

episode 48 / recommendations with jojo moss
We have a special friend(-of-the-pod) with us on this episode. You'll get lots of good recommendations, and a few crazy ones. Maybe just one crazy one. Maybe you'll like it, we don't judge. Anyways, you should know it took a lot of work to edit this down to a little under an hour. Please enjoy.
Go buy a shirt! It's totally worth it. You can find it on our website.
episode 47 / the lord's supper
Well, related to the last episode, this one was short. We discuss how The Lord's Supper, or Communion, or the Eucharist happens in our contexts. Note: we do not necessarily go deep into what The Lord's Supper is (email us for more info on that if you'd like); however, this episode should at least start some conversations and some thinking about why we do it and how we can do better at doing it.
If you want more information about this topic, or if you want more info about us, or if you want to buy a shirt (you know you want to), please go to our website at futurefamilypodcast.com
Thanks.
episode 46 / baptism
Cody and Tanner go toe to toe in the first episode of our "Sacraments/Ordinances" series. Blake facilitates a conversation on baptism while Cody and Tanner give good -- well, you decide if it is good enough -- insights to how Presbyterians and Baptists view baptism in their context.
We'd love to hear your baptism stories or questions. Go to our website and message us any questions, comments, or encouragement you may have!
[We have not worked on new intro music, so Tanner put together another last second piece. He calls this one "An SNL type intro."]
NOTES:
Ask N.T. Wright Anything episode "#50 Icons, praying to saints & dividing over sexuality" around the 22 minute mark is when Wright begins to discuss baptism from an Anglican perspective.
PCA position papers on Baptism.
Baptist Faith & Message on Baptism.
episode 45 / liturgy feat. erin h moon
Yep, you read that right. Erin H. Moon joins us to talk about liturgy!!!
In this episode, we talk about Liturgy in the Church (3:00 min mark), Liturgy outside of the Church (21:00 min mark), and Erin's Lent guide "Memento Mori" (39:00 min mark).
You can hear Erin talk more about her move from Southern Baptist to Anglican fellowship on Jamie Ivy's podcast here.
You can also find Erin's Lent Guide (which we highly recommend) here, AND use promo code "FUTURE" (all caps) for 15% off your purchase of her Lent guide "Memento Mori."
[NOTE: The intro music for this episode is quite temporary and was made in a few minutes, so please leave your judgment at home.]
Final bit of info -- we have a website! It is futurefamilypodcast.com and you can purchase an amazing shirt there through the 'surprise' tab.
episode 44 / we're back (?)
Here's an episode catching you up on where we've been, and giving you some ideas of what is to come this season!
If you don't know by now, WE HAVE A WEBSITE!!! Go to futurefamilypodcast.com and check it out. You'll see a little surprise section where you can purchase a limited run long-sleeve shirt.
We love you all.
yule log / 12:24
Just in time for the holidays, our yule log episode is just that -- an episode that is just a fire crackling away.
Sit back, relax, close your eyes, and enjoy the sounds of a nice fire in a nice fireplace from your nice friends over at the future family podcast.
Merry Christmas!
12:24
episode 43 / a movie review
Ok, so this episode is nearly the length of the movie we review in it -- Christian Mingle.
You will not want to skip this episode. Even if you have to listen in chunks, it's worth the listen. We take a look at this PureFlix movie and let you know our thoughts on the story, who we would re-cast, and any sequel ideas we have, and more!
ENJOY!
episode 42 / college tips pt 3
We jump right back (with no fluff) to our tips for college students to thrive in today's society. If you haven't listened to our first two episodes, do it ASAP when you finish this one.
Also, we added a few tips due to the current pandemic and the crazy nature of college during a time such as this. Hopefully our tips allow you to fly high and succeed at everything you do!
We love you. We are proud of you. We want you to have a fun time, and stay safe.
Make us proud.
episode 41 / politics feat. rebekah barfield
We're back! And we have a GREAT episode for you. Our amazing friend, Rebekah, stopped by to carry the conversation on "Christians and politics." It's a conversation that is tough to have now, but it was such a good one to talk through. We know you'll enjoy.
If you have any questions or want even more resources, reach out to us on Twitter @FutureFamilyPod or Instagram @futurefamilypodcast or email us at futurefamilypodcast@gmail.com
We love you.
episode 40 / secular music
This episode (the next in our "Christian Liberties" series) has been in the can for a few weeks. In it, we discuss the music that might have gotten you in trouble as a kid. It may have even cost you money as some of your parents may have broken your CDs. (Who are we kidding? None of our listeners listened to CD's growing up. You're all too young and hip.) Nonetheless, we have a fun conversation about secular music and its drawbacks and/or benefits to Christians.
As always, we hope this episode is a fun listen and informative.

episode 38 / relationships
We have all the information you need on marriage, engagement, dating, and being single. You don't have to look anywhere else!
(IF you are not into fun/jokes - the main part of the episode starts around the 12:00 mark.)
Tune in as we discuss relationships. What more info do you need?

episode 37 / true love waits feat. angie schuber
We are joined by the awesome Angie Schuber (who just so happens to be Cody's sister!) to talk about purity culture. Whether you grew up in peak True Love Waits or caught the tail end with all the cliches, this episode is meant for everyone to listen. Maybe treat this like our birds and bees talk. Wait. No, don't.
Seriously, this episode - we hope - should lead to better conversations on sexual ethics for Christians. You may be deeply steeped in it or you may be absolutely lost when the topic comes up, please listen and let us (mostly Angie) help you better understand purity culture today.

episode 36 / recommendations
We are BACK from break. And, as the title suggests, this episode is just a long list of recommendations we have been saving up for this specific episode! If you happen to try one or more, let us know what you think!!! If you already have tried some of them, let us know too!
(The first ten minutes of the episode are our welcome back, abstract, and a few words on the coronavirus situation going on currently.)
You can reach us on Twitter @FutureFamilyPod / Instagram @futurefamilypodcast / email futurefamilypodcast@gmail.com
episode 35 / dirty words
That is right, we are talking about those words we've heard you say when stepping on your ear bud. Those words you accidentally say when trying to sing the clean version of any song but let slip. Those words that are old english for donkey and your KJV only pastor just cannot change when reading Scripture from the pulpit.
Seriously though, we hope this episode is as fun of a listen as it was to record. Though we may not have taken the topic as serious as some would like us to, please understand that we do see this as a serious issue to consider and talk about among one another. Hopefully our positions on the matter are clear enough, but if you have any questions as to why we believe what we believe or resources to inform your opinion/stance - reach out to us with no hesitation.

episode 34 / arminian q&a
Alright. We promise. Last one. (Blake hopes.) This is the continuation of our questions and conversation amongst ourselves on Calvinism and Arminianism.
We discuss and try to answer some of the main questions around Arminianism, though mostly from our perspective and interpretation of Scripture. Forgive us if we do not cover questions you may have. We dwindled the Q's down to the main ones often asked. Also, does anybody read these anymore? Like, it's ok if you don't. I was just wondering. Maybe I'll hide my plan to takeover the podcast and turn it into a podcast about the show Three's Company or The Simpsons. I'm just spit-balling here. Anyway, this episode was real fun to record and discuss our thoughts on some different points of theology - especially where we disagree.
You know you can follow us on Twitter: @FutureFamilyPod or Instagram: @futurefamilypodcast or email us at futurefamilypodcast@gmail.com
episode 33 / calvinism q&a
Well, if you thought one episode was enough for the spicy topic of Calvinism and Arminianism - you were . . . maybe right.
BUT, we wanted to go deeper into some of the main questions around these two camps of theology. So, after recording one big episode, we decided to split it into two for easier listening and more content. (The curse of the internet.)
Please, hit play and hear three friends who differ on this topic not yell at each other, but have a decent conversation answering questions and picking apart children's church songs. And of course, the 'arminianism q&a' episode will be out soon!

episode 32 / calvinism & arminianism
Season 3 starts off with a biggy. We honestly kept putting this one off because the debates and terrible Tweets we read around this topic make us all want to live in a cave and never hear the term "theology" again. Hopefully, our episode does the opposite of that. (Wait, what is the opposite of living in a cave? Well, you get my point.)
It's worth a listen. Trust us, we understand if you want to skip this one because of the title. BUT, we try to use this episode to define the main points on each side and answer the question, "how can this conversation/disagreement be handled better?"
We will have a follow-up episode where we candidly discuss the major questions around both sides.

episode 30 / pop culture ft. knox and jamie
Yes, you read that right. We had THE Knox McCoy and Jamie Golden from The Popcast with Knox and Jamie to discuss Christians and pop culture. It was such a fun episode. A funny episode. And an informative episode. Hopefully, our discussion (better yet, their words) help you navigate the somewhat awkward relationship with pop culture you may have. Also, we had a fun lightning round of random rapid-fire questions near the end. Don't skip it!
If you want to follow us on social media (Totally your call. We aren't forcing you. Just know, Cody works super hard on the tweets and our fictional intern works equally hard for less pay on the IG posts.) follow us on Twitter @FutureFamilyPod or Instagram @futurefamilypodcast or email us at futurefamilypodcast@gmail.com

And as always, keep the conversation going.
episode 28 / deconstruction
For our one episode break from our denomination deep-dive, we decided to discuss deconstruction in part. This term and action has been on the rise among Christians of all creeds and denominations over the last decade or so; thus, we have a take on it. Hopefully, we give you an idea on what it is, if it is beneficial, and how to do it (or something similar) biblically!
We mention an article a bit in this episode. If the hyperlink does not work and you would like to read it, reach out to us on Twitter (@FutureFamilyPod) or Instagram (@futurefamilypodcast) or email (futurefamilypodcast@gmail.com).
Please, as always, keep the conversation going. (We should get that tatted on our bodies, honestly.)
episode 27 / non-denom
Continuing our series on specific denominations, we tackle the one that prefers to not be typed. Tune in as Blake leads our discussion on the background and aspects of non-denominational churches. If we (Cody and Tanner) are too harsh on them, it's only because we love our non-denom full-denim friends!
Follow us on Twitter @FutureFamilyPod / Instagram @futurefamilypodcast / email us at futurefamilypodcast@gmail.com
And keep the conversation going!
episode 26 / southern baptist
Here we begin part 1 of a 3(?) part series dedicated to a deep dive in denominations. Tanner gives us a very brief history of the SBC and some major identifying factors of Southern Baptists. We also discuss what we are thankful for from the SBC and how they have impacted us.
Of course, we would have loved to talk for hours about this, but we just can't. However, we want to hear your thoughts and stories about your interactions with anything SBC! Or, if you have questions or want more resources - reach out to us!
Email us futurefamilypodcast@gmail.com / Follow on Twitter @FutureFamilyPod and Instagram @futurefamilypodcast
Keep the conversation going.
episode 25 / ccm bangers
After some technical difficulties causing us to switch recording services, resulting in a lower quality in this week's episode - WE ARE BACK!
Perhaps in our most niche episode yet, we discuss Contemporary Christian Music and its best songs. We hope that you will flood our mentions or inboxes with all the ones we missed or forgot about. Make sure you create your own CCM playlist inspired by our suggestions!
Listen, and be inspired.
episode 24 / college tips pt 2
You may have thought that one episode was enough, we thought different. Here's not only more of our tips, but some of our faithful and lovely listeners tips. Grab your Ticonderoga Pencil and Composition Notebook and write down these amazing suggestions - especially our rapid fire tips.

We love you!
episode 23 / podcasting
We are back with a BRIEF history of our podcast. Can you believe we released an episode that is half an hour long? (That'll shut Blake up.)
For this special episode of reflection, we decided to let you all hear how we came to be, what our favorite episodes were, and a special moment that made us laugh which was cut from a previous episode.
As always, you can follow us on Twitter @FutureFamilyPod and Instagram @futurefamilypodcast or email us at futurefamilypodcast@gmail.com
Make sure to let us know your favorite moments so far and what you wanna hear us talk about in the future!
episode 22 / q&a
You gave us your questions; we attempted to give you our answers! Hopefully you agree with all of them.
[If you submitted a question and it was not answered - don't worry. We will have another episode like this in the future and we will transfer any unanswered questions and new questions to said episode.]
Also, let us know what you think about our answers by reaching out on social media like Twitter (@FutureFamilyPod) or Instagram (@futurefamilypodcast).
episode 21 / alcohol
Cody's favorite episode, Tanner's least favorite episode, and Blake's 'eh, I don't care' episode. We tackle the easy discussion of how Christians can view alcohol. You know, that drink that is conveniently marked with three x's in cartoons? Or, you know that stuff that Jesus turned all that water into at a wedding? That stuff. We discuss OUR takes and interpretations of how the Bible handles alcohol.
[As a part of our Christian liberties series, we know this is best nuanced out through longer conversations and study of the text; so feel free to reach out to us if you have questions or rebuttals.]

Keep the conversation going!
episode 20 / prayer
The title should explain itself, but they have this section to give more details so I'll type some up for you.
We discuss why we pray, how prayer is difficult, what are some great ways to get better at prayer, and what our nervous prayer tick is.
So, bow your head and close your eyes. Pray that we don't waste your time with our conversation. And hit play.

episode 19 / social justice with eddie kaufholz
Oh man, oh man, oh man! We had Eddie Kaufholz on for a fun episode. He was sweating out of nervousness and laughter, Tanner was sweating out of nervous and laughter, Cody was sweating because he lives in Louisiana, and Blake was. . . there I guess. Seriously, you don't want to miss this episode. It was absolutely fun and such a great conversation starter about social justice, activism, and the Church. You'll find out so much about Eddie (like his favorite host of The Future Family Podcast, his favorite side-dish at weddings), and our thoughts on social justice as it pertains to our faith.
Be sure to check out The New Activist http://newactivist.is/about (new season COMING SOON!) and follow Eddie on Twitter @edwardoreddie
Let us know what you think about this episode!
episode 18 / work
("Work Work Work Work Work" sung by Cody) Straight off an episode on rest into one on work. Hopefully this conversation is helpful for everybody, but we especially hope it helps our friends that are wrapping up college soon. We only touch the surface of a much needed discussion on how to work among other topics.
Hit play, sit back (or lay down, walk around, work out, eat Sonic Drive-In, clean your house; whatever you do) while you listen to us try to converse about:
- Why do humans work?
- Calling / Vocation
- Blake's surprising new job (no, he's not a dad yet)
- Why work is not fun sometimes
and much more.
Hey, if you are enjoying these episodes - let us know! Also, follow us on social media things. Tell your friends about us; hopefully in the most awkward way as possible. That would be great.
episode 17 / rest
Season Two
We're back!!!
This week we have a much needed conversation on rest. We just came off of a time of break and rest for our podcast and wanted to talk about the need for regular rest. Also, our thoughts on the biblical practice of observing Sabbath. What you need to know about intentional resting.
Recommended further research.

episode 15 / rated r movies
This (censored) episode was so (censored) great. [There was no actual cussing in this episode] But seriously, this episode - under our "Christian Liberties" conversations - was a fun one to have. If you like watching R rated movies or you hate them, we still think this conversation is worth hearing.

- If we are super-Christians or terrible at forming habits
- Your sure-fire way to read through the Bible (our legal team said we can't guarantee that so...)
- and Answer our first listener question!
If you would like to ask questions about the Bible, or anything in general, then follow us on Twitter @FutureFamilyPod or Instagram @futurefamilypodcast or email us futurefamilypodcast@gmail.com
Enjoy!
episode 12 / year in review (2018)
It has been a crazy year (maybe you feel the same way). And this episode was our craziest one to record; from technical difficulties to Blake saying he is looking forward to 2018, it was one for the books.
With that being said, hit play and enjoy our recap of our year and a look at what is to come.
