A Few of My Favorite Things

By Garret Grove

Hello Everyone, this is Garret Grove and as the name suggests, this is literally a podcast on a few of my favorite things. For each episode, I bring a guest on the show to talk about a certain topic that we are both interested in. I've been doing this for a while and so far, I have not had a disappointing conversation.

Journalism: Dr. Julie Williams

Journalism: Dr. Julie Williams

Samford University professor and accomplished journalism historian Dr. Julie Williams offers her insight into what she teaches, her own personal relationship with media history, and her prognosis and historical perspective on the state of journalism. A big portion of what I just mentioned above is exclusively talked about on Spotify (You're heading over there after this preview, right?)

As a point of information, Williams is the 2021 Kobre Award winner for Lifetime Achievement in Journalism History. This was given to her by the American Journalism Historians Association (AJHA), an organization she was once the president of.

Below is Dr. William's website. There, you will be directed to find out more about A Rare Titanic Family, her other journalistic works, and more.

Bonus Episode: The Sable Knight: An Epic By Joshua Lawrence Marvel

Okay, this is different than the episodes that I usually post. And this technically isn't a podcast episode.

This is an audiobook done in collaboration with author Joshua Lawrence Marvel. I also posted the audiobook in its entirety on YouTube. If you like audiobooks, I am sure that you would enjoy this rather quick read. And if you would want me to talk one-on-one with the author for a podcast episode, please be sure to let me know. Since interviewing Dr. Jay last season, I have been looking for another aspiring writer to be on the show.

This reading is the entire audiobook of The Sable Knight: An Epic. It is done in collaboration with the author, Joshua Lawrence Marvel.

Religion: Thomas Wright

Religion: Thomas Wright

Joining me for the seventh episode of the season is Thomas Wright, who just finished his first year at Highlands College in Birmingham, Alabama. In the religion episode, we delve into Thomas's journey of faith in college, as well as wrestle with the theme of forgiveness.

DISCLAIMER: My guest and I are passionate about what we talk about in this episode, but neither of us claim to be theologians, religious guides, or experts. We do our best to look at the discussed topics objectively but we understand that we, like everyone else on this planet, have some innate biases and don’t know the answers to everything. You can agree with what we say or take it with a grain of salt. You can completely disagree with one or both of our viewpoints or just disagree with certain parts. That’s your decision, but please know that we are not coming from a condescending place but a place of curiosity insight and interest as it relates to a subject we are both passionate about.

If you liked the conversation, I hope you would consider sharing this episode with others and subscribing to me on YouTube. This is the seventh episode of the second season. Only one more episode remains for the second season of the podcast.

Shoes: Demarrion Williams and Nate Barker

Shoes: Demarrion Williams and Nate Barker

Joining me for the third episode of the season is Demarrion Williams and Nate Barker. Both people were in the first season of the podcast, with Nate joining me for both sports episodes and Demarrion for the season 1 finale talking about shoes. We talk a little more about shoes this time around, but like last time, that's not the only thing we talk about.

If you like the conversation, I hope you would consider sharing this episode with others. This is the third episode of the second season, so more are definitely on the way and they will be just as engaging as this one, if not more so. If you haven't listened the other episodes this season, I highly recommend that you do so.

Please also follow the podcast on whatever podcast platform you listen to. The two links below are to Anchor and Spotify, but this episode and the entirety of season 1 is also on Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, and even Amazon smart devices!

Today, I am privileged to talk about video games with Raigen Loose, a fellow student at the University of Southern Mississippi. The conversation is rather lighthearted, but we go very deep into this multi-faceted topic.  From personal anecdotes to gaming trends, we try to cover much within our conversation as it relates to this multi-billion dollar industry.
