We get in to all sorts of topics like education, critical thinking, was the civil war the worst thing the American Experiment has overcome, if a prayer rug and/or mental illness has anything to do with this and more.

We also delve in to the recent election and discuss the poor voter turnout in some places while looking back at civil rights leaders MLK and John Lewis who preserved our right to vote.

I’m interested to see how your travels on JetBlue go. My bff’s brother has been Mosaic on them for years, and as you mentioned, the idea of upgrading to mint is new. Back around 2018 he was flying FLL SFO weekly and the only way to upgrade was to buy it. He claimed you couldn’t even use miles, at least back then. It was cash or nothing and since his company wouldn’t pay, and he didn’t want to pay out of his own pocket, he was never able to get it

Benjamin: AA's Upgrade List can be long, especially at Hubs or on popular routes. I think the longest I've seen is 50 or so. I'm luckily, normally at the top or the top 3. It goes off of status level, then LP point accrual over the last rolling 12 months. I had a BUNCH of LP's last year, less this year. I'm sure I'll fall off soon. Lots of small businesses throwing ALL SPEND onto AA cards. I've met people with Millions of LP's.

ATL Friend: price first class from ATL, reasonable connection is fine if there is a decent price difference on another airline, Delta loyalty costs too much

We Three "Dixie Dems"

We Three "Dixie Dems"

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.

Bob Gatty from his Lean to the Left Podcast is based in South Carolina, moving there from Maryland a few years ago, and has since been involved in local Democratic politics – an uphill battle, if ever there was one.

Joining us on in this episode is Arthur Hill, from North Carolina. I guess you could call us the "Dixie Dems", except that two of the three of us are NOT native southerners.

Listener Supported https://www.peach.deals/sponsors

Arthur Hill is communications chair of the Brunswick County, North Carolina, Democratic party, who recently wrote a book on the history of St. James, his hometown since 2014. Before he moved to the Tarheel State, he was a public relations professional and freelance writer in Washington, DC. Back in the day, Arthur also worked on Capitol Hill.

So, while it’s crazy in South Carolina with a Republican Congressman having to defend his vote to impeach Donald Trump against several rightwing candidates, one of whom was endorsed by Trump, it’s even wackier in Georgia and North Carolina. At least SC doesn't have a Madison Cawthorn or a Marjorie Taylor Green! Now, with this apparent Roe v Wade decision that’s been reported, it’s probably going to get even worse.

The discussion unwraps the draft abortion ruling and the political implications, ranges into the argument over what can and cannot be taught in schools, Republican candidate misadventures, Trump's influence, and much more. There's lots of insight, but plenty of laughs along the way, as well.

As Hill says in the episode, "The Republicans sit on a hill with a flintlock rifle and say 'no,' but they have no new ideas." So that's just a sample of the tenor and tone of this conversation.

Thanks to Simone Wolfe, author of the German novel and upcoming series Marla - The Awakening.  We discuss the book a little and rewound a bit to her time in Athens, Georgia.  We also talked about living in the US vs. Germany and how the pandemic has changed our lives a bit and likely led to the book project.

Dan McCrory and Robert Warn America's New Middle Class

Dan McCrory and Robert Warn America's New Middle Class

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.

Dan McCrory joins Robert for this episode.  Dan has written a book called Capitalism Killed the Middle Class: 25 Ways the System is Rigged Against You. It’s part memoir, part history, part cautionary tale as he covers everything from the gig economy to the criminal injustice system.

The book takes on the criminal justice system, trade, healthcare, the Powell memo, and the 1033 project!  Housing, homelessness, the two-party system, why we don’t have a labor party, workplace equality, FDR as savior of the middle class, the gig economy, universal basic income, AI (technology), the American caste system, education, the Green New Deal, and Black Lives Matter. The premise: a renewed labor movement can save the middle class. He's also working on two sequels: ReBuilding Union and Capitalism Kills: the Global Edition.

Tom Fischgrund Tells a Scary Story of Trump's Second Term

Episodes with music are only available on Spotify.

What if Trump had been reelected for a second term? With all the problems the country faced and still faces, how bad could things have gone and could we ever have gotten rid of him?

My book, Trump's Second Term, was written in early 2020 long before Trump lost the election and it is eerily prescient in many of its predictions. He would even call it dystopian fiction. This book fits right in with our reverent and irreverent take on politics.
