There you go - description done!

We need to get back chatting to guests ASAP. Freddies using all his energy going to work SUP demo's and hasn't been foiling recently - which means more of Liams droning on about things in the foiling world that frustrate and/or excite him

enjoy!

PS. its still fun chatting about everything going on in our tiny little world....

70 - Newquay Summertime - We've had a breakthrough with the prone game!

70 - Newquay Summertime - We've had a breakthrough with the prone game!

Its finally happened, we've had an actual run of successful prone conditions! We've spent the last week both winging and proning in some great small conditions and the progress has been awesome.

Cornish Foil Frother Phil reached out to us, very kindly offering up his AirBnB for us to scope out within walking distance of some of the best beaches in Newquay. He's had a quiet start to the summer and we're all hoping a 10% offer to any foiler mentioning the GFP on booking will entice some of you fellow frothers out of your own counties and down to Cornwall to invade the famous secret spots!

Use the following link for AirBnb, or search for Beach View House, Newquay - https://tinyurl.com/y597vtc5

Plenty of chat about foiling, foils and foilers as always.

More T-Shirts are on order as we're almost sold out - anyone for white?!

Check out https://www.buymeacoffee.com/gfpodcast if you're interested in supporting what we do! Turns out international foil event travel is expensive, and better audio equipment aint cheap either!

69 - Steph & Eric Bridge (Edge Watersports)

69 - Steph & Eric Bridge (Edge Watersports)

This week we welcome Lord and Lady Bridge of Exmouth to our little show. Famous across the county and further afield in the wing/kite industry and incredibly well regarded - nobody forgets meeting Steph and Eric Bridge.

From starting a small sailing school back in the 80's in their home town of Exmouth, to now running one of the most successful kite/wing schools and shops in the UK - The Bridges have seen it all. Multiple world titles for Steph in a fledgling kite race scene, followed by guiding their 3 boys (Olly, Guy, Tom) to become some of the best watermen to ever have come out of the UK.

We both call the Bridge family friends, (as well as ex employers of both of us) and we thank them for allowing us to invade their house with our aim to get them to sit still for an entire hour and talk to us on record.... Everyone who knows any of the family will know how much of an effort that can be for all of them. We did have to contend with scheduled haircuts mid way through - but Eric did a good job of holding the microphone while sitting in the chair. How I wish we had photos of that.... It does mean that this chat only scratches the surface of their accomplishments, and we'd love to do another episode with them. We are going to have to rethink the recording though as they really only rarely sit down.

Enjoy!

We're slowly getting back to a more regular schedule of weekly episodes, and we've got some fun trips coming up to spend some time chatting away on mic's about, so keep listening. Theres 68 other episodes to keep you going though, if you've joined us recently!

If you like what we're doing, check out https://buymeacoffee.com/gfpodcast to donate whatever you like. All proceeds are going towards funding our trip to the AWSI event in America this september (and the odd beers)

we've also still got t-shirts available for anyone else interested!

68 - The Salmon

68 - The Salmon

Freddie's away so Liam has a chat with local boy Jack Salmon. A name that is already likely to be known by UK folk, Jack has the potential to take things further in the watersports industry once he has got his degree out of the way.

Not only is he a talented waterman that excels in every discipline he takes his hand to, but he's an energetic creative that also enjoys his time behind the camera and producing videos.

I'm sure we'll see more and more from the salmon as time goes on.

67 - Child's Play / Like taking candy from a baby

67 - Child's Play / Like taking candy from a baby

Some more childish banter in response to some comments made online recently that we thought needed addressing.......

There is some foil chat here though, don't fret. Ken Adgate jumps in with a voice note to give us some answers to questions we've had from listeners about how to engage in flat water wing shenanigans. We dissect how these potential 'party tricks' may actually become quite useful in more serious conditions once mastered.

Some more thoughts on the Industry currently along the lines of Gong pushing harder into kiting and what that might mean to the consumer - what does this mean for the local shops?

Even more board construction chat! Whats been ruffling Liams feathers this week?

Can you guys send us some photos of you in your t-shirts?! we've sent a good few out now, it'd be great to see where they've ended up in the far flung corners of the world

66 - Wieger Buurma No.2 - Appletree's New Appleslice V3

We welcome Wieger back finally, after chatting to him way back at the start of 2023. His best selling Appleslice model is being renewed for the 3rd Version and so it seemed like a great excuse to rope him back in.

I'm sure we did discuss the new board at least a little bit but as always its the ramblings in other directions that made this chat so much fun once again. Great guy, great brand - we hope you enjoy this one. And if you haven't listened to the first episode we did with Wieger way back when, its well worth a listen

Appletree seems to have gone from strength to strength over the last 12 months and Wieger gives us a run down on how the companies changed in the background and whats been going on.

We're incredibly pleased to announce we've booked flights to the AWSI event in Hood River later in 2024, and we look forward to chilling with a beer with the Appletree crew there! If you're enjoying what we're doing and feel up to supporting us in anyway, check out buymeacoffee.com/gfpodcast. All funds are going straight towards our trip as well as investing in any new equipment to make sure we can get plenty content while we're out there!

65 - Old Olympians that foil

65 - Old Olympians that foil

Ben Rhodes and Stevie Morrison join us this week for a couple beers in Liams flat. They partnered together in the 49'er sailing fleet way back when, winning multiple world championships and representing Great Britain in the 2008 and 2012 Olympics.

Exmouth locals, they're both now into their coaching of both Olympic kite foil racing and sailing while being well into their own personal foiling journeys - Stevie loves his winging and Ben's got his eyes fixated on mastering Downwinding.....

Two great fellas with a lot of good stories from their competitive days - this was a lot of fun to record!

If you like what we're doing, check out buymeacoffee.com/gfpodcast - we’re aiming to get ourselves away on some specific trips this year to make sure we have some great people to chat to, and we’d appreciate all the support we can get to bring our ideas to life!

64 - Pure Journalism

Multiple sessions this week just gone, we've had some great powered conditions to play in! Jezza's traffic light power zones has worked its wonders on Freddie's wiggles on the wave....

  • Liams had his mind on some board building ideas and we hear from Ken Adgate briefly for some thoughts to discuss.
  • More Room 101 points from our own dear listeners!

Give us a shout on the socials and say hello - lets see your t-shirts anyone who's got them?! Speaking of T-shirts..... we still have some podcast logo tee's from the first drop leftover. More sizes and more Wang Lordz tee's to be printed soon enough again :)

63 - The three amigos ft. Jeremy Wilmotte

It'd been too long, we've been overdue a good chat with our man over in Aus. Today Jeremy joins us as a co-host of sorts and we catch up on the coming and goings.

I'm writing this on Sunday evening and Liam and I just finished a 20 mile running race today, its safe to say my brain isn't quite computing anything yet (neither of us would classify ourselves as runners. I promise this episode with the Big Fella is a good one, i just can't quite remember what the hell we talked about it.....

Enjoy!

Mar 18, 202402:07:06
62 - Kane De Wilde

62 - Kane De Wilde

Kane shouldn't need an introduction - he's been around long enough in the foiling space, producing hugely popular after market rear wings to suit every brand's kit. But now he's working solidly at KT as a designer we were keen to hear plans!

Liam and Kane waffle on almost straight away into techy foil designs..... and as always, Freddie brings it back in line for the masses with a mixture of shit chat and bad jokes.

Hope everyones well - its been cranking in the UK the last few days, hope everyones been getting out and about!

If you like what we're up to and you're keen to support, we're still trying to build funds for future projects and trips (mainly a trip to AWSI at the moment) - check out www.buymeacoffee.com/gfpodcast

61 - Sunday Chinwags - Opinions are like Arseholes, everyones got one

After Ken's episode blew up last week, we're back with a nice chilled Sunday evening chat. Plenty to discuss and catch up on - despite Liam and I spending all weekend together already.

  • Our T-shirts are available to buy!! Message on the socials for now for more info....
  • GWA Ponta Preta - Surf/Surf Freestyle??
  • Guy Bridge's Downwind Video on youtube - search for it!
  • Liams revelation into HM masts...... 2 years after their release.
  • What small front wing should Liam get for the bigger days we're hoping are coming?

Hope everyones well and getting wet frequently! If you like what we're doing, check out buymeacoffee.com/gfpodcast to help us fund trips to the beaches and hopefully to AWSI in the States towards the end of the year.

Until next week!

60 - Ken Adgate - King of the Tacks

60 - Ken Adgate - King of the Tacks

We get into it with Ken Adgate, a man with fingers in many pies. Shredder, board builder, un/official test rider for Ozone and Mikeslab and gas guzzling car dealership owner in the US of A.

We've been fans from a far of Kens for a long while, and if you've not seen footage of him riding yet you will be soon enough too.

We hit the big time though after Ken listened to a few episodes and actually enjoyed them - he's very picky with his podcast listening it seems. We won him over with our jovial english abuse. He started following us on the gram and is officially the first interviewee who's also a supporter of the pod!

Ken teaches Freddie how to tack like a champ, before he gets into some techy board building chat with Liam........

If you like what we do, take a look at www.buymeacoffee.com/gfpodcast - all support is well appreciated and is going towards pushing the podcast further forward!

59 - Sunday Chinwags

A Sunday mornings ramble over a few items written hastily into an agenda - as is becoming a fun tradition.

  • t-shirt chat
  • The Sydney Downwind race
  • F-One's handle decisions....
  • longer fuses
  • bigger boards (again)

58 - Olivia Piana

58 - Olivia Piana

We've been planning to sit down with Olivia ever since she did her world record downwind challenge, but we've never been able to make it work - she's so busy! This week was the week, even having to bail the first time because Liam was caught by the dreaded Covid......

A great chat was had though - as we'd suspected! Olivia runs us through the current goings on in her life including a very fun sounding trip to Tenerife to shoot with the AXIS crew.

We catch up on the Downwind challenge she did last year and also hear some rather amusing stories about her time competing on the GWA events....

Another friend of the podcast is made - we look forward to hopefully bumping into Olivia somewhere in the world!

If you like what we do, check out buymeacoffee.com/gfpodcast - we're aiming to get ourselves away on some specific trips this year to make sure we have some great people to chat to, and we'd appreciate all the support we can get to bring our ideas to life!

56 - Ellie Aldridge - The UK's Olympic Hopeful

56 - Ellie Aldridge - The UK's Olympic Hopeful

Ellie is a kite racer. A very good kite racer. She's qualified for the Olympics in July 2024 to represent the UK - which means she takes foiling far more seriously than Liam and Freddie do.

This week she gives us a run down of the entire Olympic process - which despite an interest in the Kitefoil racing we were pretty unaware of. She runs us through her background from 49erFX sailing to learning to kitefoil in a rapidly evolving world.

Ellie's also been ramping up her wing foil and tow in skills while having down time on her foiling camps in Mexico and Fuerte (lucky lass) and gives us a run through of her...... as well as her plans post Olympics 2024.

If you feel like showing us any support for the podcast, you can do that by following us on the socials @genericfoilingpodcast to keep upto date, or financially on https://www.buymeacoffee.com/gfpodcast. We can assure you this is very much appreciated and not wasted on the likes of silly things like beers (despite us repeatedly mentioning this). We've still got solid plans to put this money towards a trip to the AWSI event later in 2024 - where we will hopefully be able to put together a major list of potential interviews. Thats the plan anyway!

55 - Secret Special Guest | Foil Drivering | Eating Humble Pie | Finger Blasting and more

55 - Secret Special Guest | Foil Drivering | Eating Humble Pie | Finger Blasting and more

A lovely catch up and debrief on the previous weeks shenanigans between Freddie and Liam is very rudely interrupted by Mr FoilDrive Europe himself again - the man can't help but Plug!

What actually happened is Freddie enjoyed his time finger blasting on the FoilDrive the previous week so much, that Liam thought it'd be funny to get Dom involved to tell him 'I bloody told you so'.......

We discuss our findings of some pretty serious time on the Foildrive and a SUP foil finally before Dom jumps in.

Thanks as ever to Rich at KIteBarn for allowing us the opportunity to look after his beloved Cat for a week while he took the family away skiing - where in turn we could utilise his 30 second trip to the beach and epic waves.....!

Hope everyone enjoys - give us a follow on the socials and rate us 5 stars on whichever platform you use. If you like what we're doing, we're aiming to keep delivering as much as possible and have plans that might need a little support here and there - buy us a beer or two on https://www.buymeacoffee.com/gfpodcast to show said support - we appreciate it more than you may know!

54 - Clinton Filen - AK , Airush and Freewing - Brand and Development Director

54 - Clinton Filen - AK , Airush and Freewing - Brand and Development Director

Clinton Filen is the Brand and Development Director for AK Durables, Freewing and Airush Kiteboarding. That's a pretty sick title.

Mike Birt was all excited about his new found fame off the back of Episode 52 and very kindly passed on our details to Clinton in order to get him on ASAP.

A great, chilled chat with a very bright bloke in charge of another major player in the Industry. Based out of South Africa, Clinton gives us a run down of the Cape Town scene, while giving us a great background into his beginnings and how he came to be where he is now. He also chats through the AK/Airush/Freewing history and talks through the product range that seems to be hitting the mark right now in foiling as well as the latest and greatest in dog bed design.

Give us a follow on the socials, and if you like what we're doing you're welcome to support on https://www.buymeacoffee.com/gfpodcast

53 - Welcome to Brown Town

53 - Welcome to Brown Town

A nice steady start to 2024 for us - Freddie needed a gentle chat to ease him in after finding out first hand why everyones so pissed off about sewage outlets releasing straight into the UK's coastal beach towns water....

We've also had numerous sessions over a busy Christmas period while the winds been howling over here. Most notably is the fateful browntown session of Freddies on NYE where he did a sizeable 'wingdingdownwinder' alongside a few SUP foilers and has seen the light!

Liams got plenty going on - with more sessions under his belt on the SK8/PhantomS back to back for a comparison, as well as recieving his downwind board blank ready to laminate in the next 1-9 months.....

Sit back and enjoy! If you like what we're doing, we're saving for a trip away to AWSI this year to bring more content - feel free to help support at https://www.buymeacoffee.com/gfpodcast.

52 - WangLordz Christmas Special

52 - WangLordz Christmas Special

Its Christmas time, so what better way to celebrate than to get the 4 Wanglordz into a hot tub and ply them with beers for many hours?

It wasn't all merryment... we surprised ourselves with the amount of legitimate foiling-related chat. Rich and Chris give us the run down on the 'new generation' of foils that are hitting the market that promise huge speed ranges, and combined glide and pumpability that we haven't seen until now. Freddie tells the story of the downwind session with Liam in North Cornwall that resulted in his 3.6m wing getting irrepairably damaged. Many foiling related items get thrown in room 101 and the gang get nostalgic on the past year and beyond.

Whatever you are doing, we hope you have a brilliant Christmas and we look forward to sharing more episodes with you in the new year.

Merry Christmas, Happy New Year, and Fuck Duotone.

51 - Mike Birt - Armchair Economics

This week we chat with Mike Birt - another OG of the UK wind sports scene. An ex pro windsurf athlete from back when that was cool, to the very first British Kitesurf Champion. He's been working in the industry for a very, very long time and is currently Distributor for Airush, AK, Shinn and Freewing.

What better person to start off a little series with a more indepth look at the UK windsports industry. He's been forever known as a straight talker and obviously we thought that would go hand in hand with our little podcast!

Hope you all enjoy it, check Mike out at @birtmichael

for anyone who isn't aware - we've got the old BuyMeACoffee links up in our bio now and on the website, if you're keen to support and like what we do we very much appreciate it! It certainly makes the 10pm Sunday night editing evenings feel a bit more worth it!

50 - The Big 5 0 - Liam and Freddie back in the hot seats

Its been emotional, but we've made it to 50 bloody episodes. Back to our roots with episodes like this - hope you enjoy it.

We discuss a few of the most recent goings on in the foiling world - most importantly, our Manera Socks R&D work has been delayed until the new year. We won't blame Julien though as he's just as annoyed as us to have to ask Santa for new socks instead of making his own......

HM masts, Foildrive's, Ozone Fusions, Guy Bridge's impressive list of breaking stuff - we ramble about it all!

We've also setup an account at buymeacoffee.com/gfpodcast. I hate writing about money so here's what Liam managed to come up with:

'Buy the dynamic duo a beer each month to keep them motivated to get the shitty editing jobs done and pump out the biggest (and most professional) foiling podcast in the world.

Support Freddie and Liam on a monthly basis

Feel an enormous sense of self pride for helping Freddie and Liam remain independent from big brand sponsorship

Allow us to entertain some silly ideas that may well take some financial involvement on our part'

As always - give us a shout on the insta's and the facebooks - and rate us five stars on whichever platform you listen to us on!

49 - Nick Leason - Lift Foils

49 - Nick Leason - Lift Foils

This week the Generic Foiling Podcast is back at you with one of foiling’s big dogs and one of the real OGs, Nick Leason of Lift Foils. Tune in to learn about the history of the sport as a whole, and the early development of the products which paved the way for the refined flying machines we ride today. Nick tells the Lift story, how the brand came to be, the successes and mistakes it has taken to get to where they are now, and how he sees the future both personally, and from a business perspective. Nick tells us how the business prioritises the development of its efoil products vs surf foil products given the sizeable difference in revenue contribution. We also dive into the future of the electronically assisted foil products. Will lift create a ‘foil assist’ product or do they see a different future for that market segment?

This was an extremely interesting conversation and is definitely one we’ll be re-listening to ourselves in the future.

48 - InstaKahi - Sustainable Coastlines and Drum n Bass

48 - InstaKahi - Sustainable Coastlines and Drum n Bass

Liam doesn't follow many foilers on instagram, but he's been fan girling over Kahi for months. Someone who doesn't take themselves too seriously yet rips on the ole foil sticks - what more could we want

We had a great chat online with the man himself - talking about his work with Sustainable Coastlines Hawaii , foil style, Lift foils and his infatuation of Drum n Bass music.....

Give him a follow at @instakahi to follow along the fun.

47 - Julien Salles - F-One Foils and Manera Socks

47 - Julien Salles - F-One Foils and Manera Socks

A fantastic chat with the man in charge of one of the most successful companies in foiling. Julien Salles is the General Manager of F-One - he runs all disciplines of the company including his own personal baby, Manera.

The son of the founder, Julien gives us a run down of how his position within the business has changed over the years and how it was during the early years of F-One.

F-one shouldn't need any introduction to anyone in foiling - they hit the nail on the head so early on with their Swing Wing and have backed that up with not only more wings, but also a fantastic range of foils and a solid board selection. How has a reasonably small french company done so well globally?

A great chilled chat with a sound bloke - we both really enjoyed how laid back this one was - and we look forward to receiving our new pairs of Manera socks in the mail!

46 - Kernow Foil Classic Debrief (The event of the year!!!)

46 - Kernow Foil Classic Debrief (The event of the year!!!)

This is a big one! The Kernow Foil Classic will go down in all time history as one of the most significant events in foiling in the UK (and worldwide in our biased opinion). It deserved a proper debrief, especially given that Freddie wasn't there! All founding Wang Lordz committed to driving an hour or so to meet up at a central location in a pub on the A30. The first 4 way conversation we've done, and we've done it with pints, mixel grills and bloody football on in the background.... lets just say the editing was time consuming.

So, October 2023 saw the UK's first surf foil competition down in Cornwall hosted by Chris Burke/Poseidon and his team, and it couldn't have gone better. Loads of riders and perfect conditions for it. In this episode event organiser Chris and event judges Liam and Rich fill Freddie in on what he missed by having to work elsewhere that weekend instead.

Make sure you commit some time to listening to this one, we guarantee you'll enjoy it. And if you don't, you know the score! *!$% Duotone.

Give us a 5 star rating on whatever platform you use, follow us on the socials for more bullshit - we do end up on those chatting away most days!

45 - Chris Burke Becomes a Wang Lord - Kernow Foil Classic Surf Comp

The boys are back in town! Freddie and Liam get Chris Burke back on to provide the inside scoop on the upcoming Poseidon Kernow Foil Classic which is proudly supported by the Generic Foiling Podcast, Kite Barn and the WanglordZ. The prizes we are donating will set a new precedent within watersports competitions worldwide.

In this episode we also chat about:

- Some half truths to do with Mikes Lab

- Some unsubstantiated rumours

- How wing freestyle might have become cool

- How everything in life is fashion driven

- How not to set the world record for fastest e-foiling

- How to identify the best passionate shops to seek product guidance and foiling knowledge.

- How to make the most of both lessons and coaching sessions.

- How to get the best deal from retailers

- How to upset retailers

- and MUCH MUCH MORE EXTREMELY VALUABLE information.

Enjoy.

P.S: Freddie has decided he doesn't want to read adverts in return for money (especially from D**shite), so we might need you to give us some soon if we are ever going to get to AWSI/Oz/Hawaii before the decade is out to bring you silly foiling content like you've never heard it before. Get saving your pennies!

44 - Dominic Hoskyns - Foil Drive European lead & Axis Foils ambassador

In this episode the boys find out all about Dom's Foiling story, his history with Foil Drive and his new venture with them. He will be the European lead responsible for growing the Foil Drive market in Europe and getting as many people on it as possible.

We find out where he first saw foiling, where and when he first tried it, how he became so good at dockstarting, and how he ended up being the first commercial customer of Foil Drive instead of buying an e-foil.

40 - Oskar Johansson

Fresh off his awesome 2nd place finish at M2O in Hawaii, we finally get to sit down with Oskar and chat. Big Jimmy C ruined our chances of talking to 'Oscar the winner of M20', and so first placed loser is all we managed to get, but we'll make do! (Those of you who can't take a joke ought to unfollow us)

We've been pinging messages back and forth for months, casually flirting away and finally the perfectly scheduled time slot opened up for us all. What a great bloke and even better ambassador for the sport - this definitely wont be the last time we chat to Oskar, we just hope he's keen for a second date!

39 - The WangLordz Return

The WangLordZ return. We've not sat down together for a while, its been busy!

Rich is buggering off to see his brother in NZ for a good few weeks so we made an effort to head down to Bantham for a session and a chinwag afterwards. Fuelled by Coffee and bacon we dissect the goings on of the last few weeks including Rich and Liams trips out to Portugal for the North Dealer Meeting last month, as well as Rich's trip to the Appletree factory.

Enjoy our own reviews of a few new products we've been playing on - Appletree boards, Armstrong wings and F-one foils. And Rich gives us his latest ramblings on the world of downwinding and pump foiling.

Also - Foiling Bicycles, yay or nay?

38 - Armie Armstrong & Armstrong Foils

38 - Armie Armstrong & Armstrong Foils

We finally managed to schedule in a sit down with Mr Armstrong after weeks of trying - the mans been all over the shop recently and finding a time zone was proving difficult! From New Zealand to China to the States to Maui, he has been all over in the last couple of months!

We ended up having a fantastic couple of hours discussing all things Foiling and Armstrong as well as his recent completion of the Maui to Molokai downwind race in preperation for the big Molokai to Oahu later this month.

We talk XPS wings, the HA origins, Armies links with the NZ sailing lot - tonnes of gems in this one and hopefully it comes across how much fun we had.

follow us on social media, we managed to use a different group chat function for this one so managed to get some video and some shorts out of it we'll aim to release soon enough too

37 - Uli Sommerlatt North Product Development Manager

Liam was in Portugal recently for the 2023 North Dealer meeting working with the iKsurfmag and Tonic media team. He managed to sit down with Uli Sommerlatt (North Product Development Manager) with the particular focus. What does the North product design process look like? How much do North compare their product offerings to their competitors? Do North still feeling they are ‘playing catch up’ in the industry and what products can we expect soon?

36 - Adrian Roper and AXIS Foils

36 - Adrian Roper and AXIS Foils

With the all New Spitfire range from AXIS dropping worldwide, we managed to persuade Adrian Roper to join us on the podcast! Very happy about this one, Liam and I had a great time recording it and it was awesome to finally get to ask Adrian some questions we'd be considering for a long while.

For me (Freddie), Adrian was the first person I wanted as a guest when Liam and i started talking about doing some podcasting - a super interesting bloke with a great background in windsurfing, kitesurfing and now foiling.

We hope you enjoy this one, its become one of my own favourites. We discuss foiling in depth, along with a fair bit of engineery chat between Liam and Adrian while i saw quietly in the corner....

35 - Rob Whittall - Part 2

This is Part 2!

We had a bloody great time chatting to Rob this week, so much so we spent 2.5hours chatting. He actually admitted at the end that he forgot we were recording! Because of this, we've split it into 2 chats. If you like technical chat, you'll like this episode. If you like industry chat, you'll like this episode. If you like Rob, you'll like this episode. If you like high tech new material chat, you'll like this episode. And, if you like knob jokes, you'll like this episode!

33 - Short Stories with our favourite Industry Vets

33 - Short Stories with our favourite Industry Vets

Episode 33 see's us trying something different again - we're doing live interviews now. But don't worry, we're just as bad at these as we are doing regular 'studio' recordings. Shaky microphones, loud noises and interuptions everywhere - those of you after prime audio will be spitting feathers!

However, it only seemed right to get some wisdom from the Industry veterans on the beach in Littlehampton this weekend just gone, and try show you the listeners some insight into the inner workings of some of the brands we know and love.

Today's episode Liam and I had a catch up on the goings on of the event we were at - IKSURF and Tonic Mag's demo weekend at Littlehampton on the south coast of the UK. We chat with Liam Dredge who is part of the GWA and GKA global events commentary team - he gives us a run through of life on the event calendar and what we can expect from them coming up. Good pal and UK Cabrinha rider Jack gives us a run down of his recent goings on and Tris from the OTC gives us some insight into the hot products coming out of Armstrong at the moment

We hope you enjoy the spontaneity and spur of the moment questioning, because i've got another entire episode with some of the other faces and names from the weekends - working with brands you all know and love. Keep an eye out for that one very soon too!

32 - Wake foiling, F-ones HM Carbon masts and E-Foiling experience

Today Liam and Freddie catch up together to discuss a few new topics as well as dissecting recent sessions -

  • Liams interested in finding out more about why Wake foiling hasn't taken off as much over here in the UK and we discuss whether we think it will or not.
  • Liam has been in comms with Charles, F-One designer again asking technical questions on the new HM masts from the brand. Charles tells us the design ideas around the latest offerings.
  • The King of the Roads event in Falmouth a couple weeks back and the downwinding chat hosted by Glenn from Ocean Sports Centre
  • Freddies been prone foiling and is actually getting somewhere with progression.... and Liams been playing around on a couple Flite E-Foils

We'll both be down at Littlehampton on the south coast next weekend (9/10/11th June) for the IKSURF and TONIC mag demo weekend. Freddie will be there with everything from Ozone and Axis on show (and we're hoping the new Ozone Flux wing will arrive just in time for it!), and Liam will be mooching around like all good journalists do. Come and say hey to both of us - its always good to meet likeminded wangers!

for now we hope the waves come back soon! follow us on instagram for more up to date conversations and ping us a message on there or via email with any questions!

31 - Jeremy Willmotte - The Future of Big Wave Foiling

Hot off the back of some insane swells that got 'wedding cake island' break off the coast of Sydney firing, Jeremy joins us for a catch up to relive the days and discuss the future of big wave foiling, and the gear needed to push things forward. Check out his socials if you haven't already to see some pics and look out for more footage coming soon. @oceanpixels Always great to catch up with Jeremy and hear what its like foiling these monsters he keeps finding. Jeremy also managed to not balls up the audio on his side this time so hopefully it sounds better - and Liam thinks he's mastering the audio quality a bit more on this one too. If anyones got any feedback on that let us know! Hope everyones been getting frothed - you will be after this!

See you next week

30 - Chris Burke - Poseidon Watersports

Welcome to Chris Burke onto the podcast - a good friend of ours and top shredder who runs a successful kite and wing school in Poole while now taking on a new shop Venture in Newquay.

I've known Chris for many years and it was high time we got his intel and knowledge onto the podcast. He's got a great grasp on the industry as a whole while also knowing how to style out his riding on the water. Winging and foiling have transformed his water time as it has the rest of us - and here he gives us his run down on his history and what's kept him frothing on foiling.

If you're around the south west, go give Chris a shout in the shop and see his awesome foil wall. Tell your mates about the podcast if you haven't already, and follow us on the socials!

29 - New Toys? SAB Leviathon, F-one SK8, we've actually had some great sessions, and why is my Mast not bubbly like a golf ball?

Freddie and Liam sit down to discuss the goings on of the last few weeks!

  • Multiple sessions, Wing and Prone, a nice dissection of them all
  • Freddie's first go on a SAB Foil Leviathon 1750 - a monster of a dock start foil.
  • Liams new SK8 from F-One turned up
  • Surface finishes on foiling kit and why it ain't ribbed for your pleasure

We wanted to sit down and catch up after a few weeks of interviews - we still like doing these together! And we've got some more interviews lined up over the coming weeks too so wanted to get one out!

Keep an eye out for next weeks episode with Chris Burke!

27 - Tom Earl - Prone Surfing in the UK

27 - Tom Earl - Prone Surfing in the UK

Please welcome Tom Earl onto the Podcast - A member of Unifoils international team of riders and undoubtably the UK's most prominent prone foil surfer.

Freddie was down in Cornwall a couple weeks back and managed to persuade Tom to come for a chinwag over Zoom with Liam back in Devon. We managed a mini session beforehand but Freddie ballsed up the timings and got in at the wrong tide, only to watch Tom smashing a few waves before getting out as the waves dissapeared.....

Tom may have only been foiling for a couple of years but has steadily built a solid following of riders who want to watch footage of his smooth style at his home spot down in Kernowfornia. A competitive surfer ever since he was a kid growing up in the surf mecca of the UK - Newquay - Tom took to foiling naturally, and has obviously been drawn to a more shortboard surf style of foiling. For us, this was great to chat about as coming from a windsports background we have a different angle of appreciation.

26 - F-One's Foil and Board Designer - Charles Bertrand

26 - F-One's Foil and Board Designer - Charles Bertrand

This week we got to chat with Charles Bertrand, a naval architect who's worked as part of the foil and board design team at F-One for approx 12 years. Liam talks all things engineering with Charles, learning how they go from a new product brief to a fully working item on the market, while Freddie twiddles his thumbs in the corner not really understanding much of what the other two talk about.

What've F-one got in the pipeline? Where does the company aim to place itself in the market? How does using less HM carbon in some of the front wings can actually become of benefit? We delve into a tonne of rabbit holes.

Enjoy the episode, it's a techy one! Share with your mates and follow us on instagram and facebook for more upcoming info - we did 2 further interviews last week that we look forward to releasing over the coming weeks.

25 - Poems with Proctor, Dealing with bad crashes, Gong thoughts and ideas for a real life event of our own

25 - Poems with Proctor, Dealing with bad crashes, Gong thoughts and ideas for a real life event of our own

A real mish mash of ideas in this weeks episode, starting with our new section called 'Poems with Proctor'. After last weeks episode with Mike Raper there were major calls for more Poetry to be read out by Liam (not really, but we thought we'd do more anyway). Can you guess which promotional video this weeks poem is from??

We discuss a session in Bantham once more that could've ended a lot worse than it did, but was still very slightly terrifying for Freddie - we all have bad sessions, its just a case of figuring out how to deal with them and stay safe!

Freddie visited Gong last week, and the instagram video released by us caused a few people to get in contact with their thoughts - which we encourage and enjoyed discussing further.

and finally, we're seriously toying with the idea of hosting an afternoon/evenings event later in the year in order to get together with our listeners and have a chin wag about all things foiling. The idea being to offer our listeners the ability to come and chat with some industry folk in a less sales orientated way but an ability to have chats with the brands you want to talk to and to attend a few clinics run by board builders and coaches to hopefully learn some way of improving your kit selection and/or riding too. Obviously beer and food would be involved also. Would anyone be interested? If so, let us know what things you may want to do and even where you think it may be best being held. We're currently toying with the idea of south coast/Poole direction due to the vast majority of wingers down there, but also maybe Exeter/Exmouth (the home of the generic foiling podcast).

until next week! Rate us 5 stars on your podcast platform, follow us on the socials and get in touch there :)

24 - Mike Raper - North Foiling

24 - Mike Raper - North Foiling

This week we sat across Zoom to chat to Mike Raper - Brand Manager and Co-founder at North Kiteboarding and North Foils, all the way over in Auckland, NZ. Mikes been around the watersports industry for a very long time and has held numerous senior positions within it - initially with the Pryde Group and Cabrinha Kites, and now running the ever successful North Kiteboarding and North Foils.

Liam and I both enjoyed Mikes interview on the Progression Project back in October 2022, and jumped at the chance to have a chin wag with him - although both very conscious that our interview would likely be quite a different style! For anyone who wants to know more about Mikes early days in the Industry and how he got his start, we urge you to go and listen to that episode - its a banger. We tried to come up with a different way of talking foiling with him, delving deeper into the North brand, its kit and the production behind it. A little of summary of some stand out questions you can come to expect....

  • Mikes role overall in North and how their side of the business compares with the Sailing side
  • Mikes thoughts on product life cycles, yearly versions or 12 month product years and where North will be in the future
  • a delve into the production process in North from start to finish
  • Norths take on the Mast stiffness trend
  • Where did Norths Brand image come from..... and whats with those promotional videos....?!
  • Norths wing material development
  • Tom Bridges new modelling career with North Apparel

Give us a share with your mates, tell them all about us - follow us on instagram and facebook @thegenericfoilingpodcast - ping us any messages/questions you'd like!

23 - Welcome to Bantham

23 - Welcome to Bantham

We're both house sitting in the South Hams for a couple of weeks and its going well for managing to get into the water most days in some very varied conditions. Only one wing session, but a couple of kite sessions and a couple more prone sessions has seen some progression across the board.

Today we delve into these sessions as well as having a natter about a few things:

  • our rookie interpretation into the current GWA wing foil world cup events
  • Windows and materials on Wings
  • The red card in Saturdays Six Nations Rugby game
  • What sponsors Freddie wants to work with when he starts his pro wing career

It's a fun little episode this week - its always nice to sit down together to dissect a few opinions and thoughts on matters within the Industry. Freddie might've gotten a little over excited about a few things and hopes they're not too offensive, but we found them too funny not to include in the edit - if we get cancelled at least we'll know why.

We'll be back very soon with an interview with North Foils Brand manager, Mike Raper. If anyone has any questions for Mike please ping them over, we're really looking forward to it.
