Clinical Savant Series: Prof. Stuart McGill Part 1 of 2
Clinical Savant Series: Prof. Stuart McGill Part 1 of 2
Dr. Stuart McGill is a professor emeritus, at the University of Waterloo, where he was a professor for 32 years. His laboratory and experimental research clinic investigated issues related to the causal mechanisms of back pain, how to rehabilitate back-pained people, and enhance injury resilience and performance. This produced over 240 peer-reviewed scientific journal papers, and many international awards, and has mentored over 40 graduate students during this scientific journey. Professor Stuart McGill has dedicated 32 years to investigating how the spine works, the mechanisms of pain, and proven ways to eliminate pain and restore pain-free activity. Prof. McGill believes the key to pain-free activity is to assess the pain mechanism and employ a matched approach. In today's episode, we dive into the first aspect of Stu's assessment, the interview. This takes place in his living room and as you will hear, everything is important. This was an insane experience for us to be able to spend a day in Stu's house and get to know him more. We are super thankful for the opportunity and hope you enjoy it as much as we do! Top Secrets in Practice: Are you missing silent derangements in your patients?
In today's podcast, we dive into the theory of a 'silent derangement'. This is a concept Brett Winchester has thrown around since we started diving into Mechanical Diagnosis and Therapy (MDT) / McKenzie Technique. The definition of a derangement includes 'movement obstruction' which sounds eerily similar to 'joint blockage' for those of us who do manipulation. This concept could allow you to save some patients from big blow-ups or new injuries. Let us know what you think about this! As always, please subscribe and download episodes. Special Edition: Dr. Richard Ulm, General Movement Strategy for Treatment
Today we tackle a super hot topic in the world of manual therapy, chiropractic, and honestly, every social media platform you look at. Does manual therapy matter? Should we just make all our patients get out and move regardless of their symptoms? Does precision matter in rehab? Should we only be doing things in the treatment room that are purely ‘evidence-based’? Some of these questions are legit questions with our biases of MDT, DNS, etc. But, as you will hear in the episode, let’s not jump ship on our manual techniques. We could not of chosen a better guest to discuss this with than Dr. Richard Ulm. You may know Dr. Ulm from the Athlete Enhancement podcast, Dynamic Neuromuscular Stabilization courses, his Instagram ‘move sessions,’ or his food and wine pics throughout social media. Shawn Eno has built Brett Winchester's orthotics for the last 15-plus years and is a true artist. The thing that really separates Shawn's orthotics is the communication with the ordering physician. In The Trenches: Dr. MaryAnne + Dr. Cody Dimak, Parker University
One of our favorite Chiropractic couples, the Dimak's are fighting the good fight by teaching future Chiropractors what it means to be amazing clinicians. After successfully opening a clinic in California, the Dimaks took their talents to Dallas Texas and Parker University where they have each had roles as clinicians and educators. They have both been influenced by the Rehab 2 Performance crew and still hold positions with R2P. We had a great conversation about their different roles, the direction of Parker, and how they have maintained a good working relationship through everything.  Show Notes Rehab2Performance Symposium MaryAnne (@MamaKnowsMovement) Instagram Cody (@fakemaxperformchiro) Instagram
