[54] - Do This To Get People To Your Gigs

[54] - Do This To Get People To Your Gigs

One thing that I see a lot that people don't do that they should really be doing is updating their Facebook page. That's not what I'm telling you right now, but most people like to have a Facebook page and they might post to it here and there, but it's more like a billboard more like, here I am here I am. But like what we're trying to do now is we're trying to connect with people as a community where what we're doing is we're going one to one. I mean it sounds like a lot of work, but this is how you build up your community and get more people to be super fans. You want super fans, your super fans are the ones that are going to show up at every show. They're going to pack the house, you're going to be able to play these great gigs where everybody's responsive and it's a large crowd and it's fun and you want more money.

But you know, you would rather have that kind of gig then a high paid gig where people just don't respond or care about you. So that's what you're trying to do. And what we need to do. What we're not doing is we're not updating our events on the Facebook page. Now, if you don't have a Facebook page, first things first, you need to have a Facebook page. And I'm releasing a Facebook beginner guide for bands shortly in the next few weeks. So keep an eye out for that. It's going to be on the home, hometown hero ignite course and package. Um, I'm really excited for that. We've been, I've been working on that and it's just a lot of great information that's gonna help you go from a weekend warrior to put playing places where sometimes people comes out or you're relying on the clubs to give you a, the crowd.

It's going to take you from that to a hometown hero where, what is a hometown hero? A hometown hero is a guy who shows up at the venue and people show up because they want to be there. You know, regardless of where you're playing, that's when you have a following. It's not like you're relying on the clubs. So if you don't have your Facebook page set up, make sure you set it up and then update. Add all your shows and any pertinent information to your events tab. And for most people, you're not doing, like you might be doing a CD release party, you'd put that on there. But like for most people, the main thing I'm talking about are the new shows that you got coming up and that are going to be going on in the future. So you can share those and they're there for people to see. And if they're not there then even your band members might be guessing when you're playing next. And that's just the truth. So, update your events and keeping an eye out for our Hometown Hero Ignite course. It's coming soon. Never quit!

There are some simple things that you can do now that will likely increase what you’re paid.

The problem is, we’re not at the top of the heap.

We’re hustling and grinding it out but we’re not the 1%.

[31] Do This To Fix Your Music Bio

[31] Do This To Fix Your Music Bio

If you think you don’t need to fix your music bio then you’re wrong.

The music biography better known as an EPK or electronic press kit is your resume for booking gigs, promoting your music and getting recognition.

With the thousands of artists that use GigFaster I see a LOT of artist bios.

Some are good but most are terrible. Take no offense.

We’ll chalk it up as just not knowing what venues, music bloggers and record labels are really looking for.

Although you should adjust your bio depending on who will be reading it, there are key ingredients that will fix your music bio across the board.

[27] Do This In The First 30 Seconds of Your Song

[27] Do This In The First 30 Seconds of Your Song

Writing a song is an art so there are no rules or are there?

If you want to write a great song there are definitely things you can do to make your song stick out and be better overall.

Attention spans are at an all-time low.

The average attention span is just 8 seconds according to a study by Microsoft. It’d decreased by 4 seconds in the last 20 years.

Doesn’t sound like much but it matters.

Eight seconds is a lot shorter than 30 seconds so to build a song that keeps the listener’s attention is a high task.

[20] 5 Keys of a Successful Music Producer

[20] 5 Keys of a Successful Music Producer

The term Music Producer is becoming somewhat of a buzz word today.

Today we will dive into what a music producer is and why you need, at least in part, to be one yourself.

Music producers seem to be everywhere.

Last night I just wanted an episode of Songland. Four hopeful songwriters came into the studio and presented their songs.

Only 3 of the writers were selected to work with music producers.

After just a short writing session with each producer each song took on an entirely different tone. Some were like night and day.

Each song went from a good base to becoming a potential hit.

Lyrics were rewritten to be more consistent. To more clearly tell the true story of the song.

The music was fixed dynamically so that it fit the message of the song. For the most part, the music was scaled down quite a bit.

Simplified.

Think Apple and the iPhone. Used to be one button but now, even the button is gone.

Precise and to the point.

Just like the new versions of the songs.

The message was clear and the music matched.

Not only did it match but interest and quality never was sacrificed.

On the contrary, it was enhanced.

Sometimes it’s just easier with a list of things to consider when writing your songs. Here’s a list of things you should take on not only as a songwriter but also as a music producer.

[19] How To Create A Killer Electronic Press Kit (EPK)

[19] How To Create A Killer Electronic Press Kit (EPK)

If you have a band you need an electronic press kit also known as an EPK.

An EPK is a summary of your band. You can think of it as your band’s resume.

When an employer gets a resume the will judge the book by the cover.

It’s the same way when venues, record labels and music blogs look at your EPK.

Your electronic press kit (EPK) needs to stick out.

It needs to be short and sweet. It needs to highlight the very best you have to offer. No fluff.

[16] Is Music Your Goal Or Just a Hobby?

[16] Is Music Your Goal Or Just a Hobby?

Is music your passion? Is it all you dream about? Is it what you want to do with the rest of your life? Your dream “job”?

Or is it just a hobby? A lot of people will say music is their passion. They want to be a rock or rap star but in reality it’s just a hobby.

In this article and podcast I’m going to dig into the question, “Is music your goal or just a hobby?”.

The fact of the matter is, unbeknownst to most, music is just a hobby for them. They think they are the “real deal” but they invest little time and little or no money into it.

Do you think you have the best product in the world? Do you think you have the best song anyone has ever heard? Think you’re the next big Drake or Justin Bieber?

Are you a “sure thing” and perfect investment for a record label?

A lot of people are waiting for someone to bang their door down with a record contract. They just want, want, want. Most will write 1 song and think they’re a rock or pop or rap star and that everyone should treat them like that. That is wrong on so many levels.

[9] How To Book Gigs In 3 Easy Steps

Book gigs in 3 easy steps. These steps are very easy. Anyone can do this. It’s easy work but it can be very tedious.

These are the same 3 steps I used to book major gigs with Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Gary Hoey, Joan Jett, Fuel and many others.

Be forewarned, it takes persistence. It’s easy to book gigs if you’re persistent. Again, the work is easy but you can’t quit.
