Getting Older & Getting Better: An Interview With PremRock
As you will hear in the intro, I have recently invested in a new recording platform which is going to provide much better quality sound in the future. It also comes with a monthly subscription fee, and combined with the work I already put into making this happen each episode, as well as the work I do for my blog, I thought I'd throw the option out there for people to show their support if they want to. I will probably start a Patreon eventually, but in the meantime you can make your donations via this link: www.paypal.com/paypalme/ggiinnggerr. Thanks again to Owen Stokes for his help with the editing and thanks to you for listening.
Podcast for the Mature B-Boy: An Interview With DJ Format
On this week's episode, I'm pleased to bring you an interview with another of my musical favourites - DJ Format. We talk about his career, from my mild obsession with his debut album, Music for the Mature B-Boy, to the change of direction his sound took on his latest album, Devil's Workshop. We also discuss how he came to work with - and drive a bus for - Jurassic 5. Plus I've got my much sought after book update and a few new releases from the hip hop world that you should be checking out. Thanks to Format for speaking with me and thanks to Owen Stokes for the editing. There are some momentary losses of sound, which were unfortunately unavoidable but they are short-lived! If you want to connect with DJ Format on social media, you can find him on Instagram: @djformat. I'll be back soon with more chatter. Thanks for listening.
From Demorus to DEDW8: An Interview With Baileys Brown
For my latest episode, I'm pleased to bring you an interview with one of my favourite producers, Baileys Brown. He's been a part of the Bristol hip hop scene and beyond for the best part of 15 years and as well as his many solo ventures, he has also had collaborations with numerous artists, including perhaps most notably with Datkid and his ongoing work with 0079 as the duo, DEDW8. We had a chat about those collaborations, as well as his origins as an artist, how working with Sumgii and Dabbla helped him out of a rut and about his vision for the future. If you want to find him on social media, check out @prekardashiankanye on Instagram and @BbrownBeats on Twitter. Once again thanks to Owen Stokes for his help with the editing. Please note there is some slight interference at the start of the interview but it calms down soon enough.
Drawing Conclusions: A Conversation With Emily Catherine
From the Archives: Pharoahe Monch
For this week's episode, I thought I'd do something a little different and share the original audio from one of my favourite interviews. Back in 2018, I had the honour of speaking with one of hip hop's most respected MCs, the legendary Pharoahe Monch. While sitting in the bar of a Bristol hotel, he went deep on his career, giving me insights into each of his albums, as well as a future project that would eventually morph into the critically acclaimed, A Magnificent Day For An Exorcism, by his rap-rock outfit, Th1rt3en. The interview was originally published over on GrownUpRap.com. Thanks to Owen Stokes for his help with the editing and I'll be back next week with more chatter.
Comedy, Insanity & Defunding the Police
Hello you wonderful people. A slightly more mixed bag this week, as I talk about the comedy projects that have had the biggest impact on me over the years, while also touching on the subjects of losing your mind and defunding the police.
As always, thanks to Owen Stokes for helping me with the edit and if you want to contact me about anything you can find me on Twitter (@gingerslim) and Instagram (@gingerslim_).
Thanks for listening.
Sometimes My Arms Bend Back
I'm back with another episode, which is arguably my geekiest yet, as I deliver a meandering monologue about one of my favourite TV shows of all time - Twin Peaks.
One of the most unique series ever made, I offer up some opinions, some BTS stuff and some facts about its creation, including its cultural impact.
Thanks to Owen Stokes for polishing it all up again. You'll be pleased to hear I invested in a new mic so things are slowly improving, as promised. Just got to remember not to be so clumsy.
Thanks for listening.
A Tale of Two Venues
This week's episode is a trip down memory lane, as I recount some tales from my teens / early 20's involving mayhem and debauchery at two notorious venues in my hometown of Bristol, UK.
Once again thanks to Owen Stokes for the editing assistance (IG: @dj_stokesy) and thanks to you lot for listening.

Me, Myself & Mental Health
TW: mental health issues, suicide, addiction, grief and trauma.
As it's Mental Health Awareness Week here in the UK, I thought I would talk about my own experiences surrounding mental health and some of the challenges I've faced over the last 20+ years of battling my demons. I apologise if I sound a bit vague in places towards the end, I think talking about all that stuff had exhausted me a little bit by that point, but hopefully it will still offer you something.
At one point I mention a piece I wrote about grief, which you can find here if you're interested: https://gingerslim.medium.com/lessons-in-grief-8041b8635f1
And if you want to talk about any of the issues I discuss, or anything you're going through yourself, please contact me via my socials.
Once again, a big thank you to Owen Stokes for the editing.
It's All City Like PHASE 2
Welcome back, friends. This week, I'm going in on another of my passions - and perhaps the most enduring of all - the beautiful music of hip hop. I discuss my introduction to the genre, its impact on my life from an educational POV, and also some of the artists I've been obsessed with over the years.
Once again a big thank you to Owen Stokes for making this sound the best it can. For context, I'm recording with quite a budget microphone in the room of a farmhouse, so the acoustics are not great. At the end of the episode I mention the idea of adding background music for future episodes, but Owen already managed to add some to this one, so please let me know what you think. Feedback is always welcome because I am still learning how to make this all work.
Thanks for listening.
BOOKS BOOKS BOOKS
Welcome back to The Slimcast for the first proper episode, after the audio abomination that was the introduction. The sound quality will improve over future episodes as I work out a few things and hopefully upgrade my equipment. In the meantime, a big thank you to Owen Stokes for making this latest episode sound as good as possible with the audio he had to work with.
This week I am talking about books and my love of reading. I give a brief history of my relationship with reading, then go into quite a bit of detail about some of my favourite authors, along with some recommendations for fellow readers out there. If you're not a bookworm, this one might not be for you, but on the other hand you might well feel compelled to explore some of the books I talk about because there are some intriguing titles and subjects included.
Finally, thanks for all the support and feedback after the intro. Lots more to come.
Slimcast Introduction
Evening all. This is a slightly rough and ready introduction to what I hope will become a more polished series of podcasts I'm intending to record over the coming weeks/months/years/whenever I get my ass in gear. I won't say too much more here because I think I've explained it all in the episode but I will say thanks for listening.
