I’m Not A Fan Unless I Have A Podcast

After seeing King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard play live in San Diego, Pomona, and two nights in Las Vegas, I've got withdrawals. Plus, their 20th studio album "Omnium Gatherum" just came out and I've been left on read by most people I've texted about it. Anyway, here's an hour plus of me talking about my renewed love for our favorite band, making new friends, and meeting Cookie.

Frankly, that very well could have subconsciously inspired me to start this podcast.

Changing it up a little this week, as we welcome to the pod Elmo Kirkwood of the Meat Puppets! We discuss the appeal of diversifying musical tastes, recording with iPhones, and pursuing the things in life that make us happy. While this is the least Gizz-centric episode to date, it is one of the most entertaining.

He's a big-time vinyl collector and has an intriguing method of consuming music, such as listening to KGATLW on shuffle––don't hate, he actually makes a pretty solid point. He also shares some stories of getting to see King Gizzard play over the last six years and how, on one special occasion, he got to meet the guys.

Slade joins the pod from Massachussetts. Thus far, he is the newest Gizzhead to come on the podcast and still has yet to listen to a few albums. I had a blast talking with him, though, since he has that familiar eccentric passion that many of us had when we first discovered the band.

Tom joins the pod from County Durham in northern England. He's a radio guy as well and hosts a Brazilian music show––badass! Our conversation stretches across several topics, including our speculations of Stu MacKenzie's creative process and how additional King Gizzard members having kids might impact their creative output.

Brandon joins the pod from Salt Lake City to discuss life as a Gizzhead, Deadhead, and vinyl collector with all around good taste. He got to the guys live on the Salt Lake stop of their 2019 US tour, so we talk about that. Also got to talk Gumboot Soup, 12 Bar Bruise, and the 8-bit Polygondwanaland pressing from 5SEVEN Records.

Zev joins the pod from Toronto. He plays bass in Glutenhead, who just released a self-titled EP on July 3! He teaches me about short-scale basses and flat-wound strings––I've been playing guitar for 22 years and had zero knowledge prior to this conversation! We cover a lot of ground in this episode including stories about meeting a few of the guys and getting to play "fuck, marry, kill" with Stu when Zev was a music journalist.
