Ep. 265 - Will it be Better At The Ballpark?

Ep. 265 - Will it be Better At The Ballpark?

Sox fans! Spring training is wrapping up and decisions are looming as the Chicago White Sox still need to trim down their roster. We know that Mike Moustakas and Jesse Chavez will not be in the picture but what about Braden Shewmake or Gavin Sheets? Opening Day is fast approaching and are you finally getting excited for White Sox baseball? Will you be there for Garrett Crochet's historic start? Michael Kopech has impressed out of the bullpen but can it last? Could we see Colson Montgomery on the South Side this season? What prospects didn't get a fair shake? Steve Hasman from Future Sox joins the conversation. Thanks for the continued support. Go Sox. #ChicagoWhiteSox #WhiteSox

Ep. 264 - Dealin' Cease & the Kopech Roller Coaster

Ep. 264 - Dealin' Cease & the Kopech Roller Coaster

Hey Sox fans! It finally happened: Dylan Cease was traded. Some favorable prospects come back from San Diego and the latest rebuild is in full swing. Sox received a few arms that might be ready to help out this season. Michael Kopech's journey towards the starting rotation took a turn this past week as the announcement was made that Kopech will be starting the season in the bullpen. Grifol said he knows who the starter will be on Opening Day but will keep it a secret. Crochet and Leasure continue to impress while Shewmake is sidelined with an ankle injury. Reports from Spring Training and the surprising Pedro Grifol Quote of the Week. Thanks for the continued support and Go Sox.

Ep. 263 - A Desert is a Place Without Expectation

Ep. 263 - A Desert is a Place Without Expectation

Sox fans! Our Chicago White Sox are (4-11) in Cactus League play and have the worst run differential (-36) in all of Spring Training. It's the just the spring though, right? Oscar Colas was one of the dozen cuts made by the White Sox. What percentage of miles per hour does Pedro Grifol want from him moving forward? Ex Royals pitcher, Brad Keller, was signed by the White Sox to a minor league deal. Can the Sox adopt an old KC logo for the 2024 season? Michael Kopech continues to struggle in the first inning and Grifol is noncommittal on the five man rotation. The navigation of the desert life is a struggle. Thanks for the continued support. Go Sox. #WhiteSox #ChicagoWhiteSox

Ep. 262 - Trains, Bunting & Starters Starting

Ep. 262 - Trains, Bunting & Starters Starting

The Chicago White Sox are (3-8) during Cactus League play. So far, the offense has been inept however Eloy Jimenez and Yoan Moncada have been bright spots. Moncada has mentioned to Pedro Grifol that he would like to bat 2nd this season. Grifol said that Moncada is one of the best bunters on the team. Dylan Cease, Michael Kopech and Garrett Crochet saw action this past week. Crochet has impressed, striking our Shohei Ohtani and Mike Trout. Grifol continues to talk about indefinable qualities and a certain type of baseball he wants to play but the specifics are lacking. Battles continue for utility spots and Oscar Colas plays first base. Thanks for the continued support. Go Sox. #WhiteSox

Ep. 261 - Well, that was FAST

Ep. 261 - Well, that was FAST

The Chicago White Sox are back in action in Arizona. After the first three games, the Sox are (1-2) and have played a little sloppy. Pedro Grifol has a new acronym that he hopes will catch on and perhaps ignite some unity. New play-by-play voice, John Schriffen, is getting his sea legs and Steve Stone makes a prediction about the upcoming season. What's going on with the new stadium? Jerry needs money and a new ballpark to compete.... or else. Thanks for the continued support. Go Sox. #ChicagoWhiteSox #WhiteSox

Ep. 260 - Pedro Grifol's Second Chance

Ep. 260 - Pedro Grifol's Second Chance

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Pitchers and catchers have reported and the first full squad workout is upon us. Pedro Grifol has a lot of bodies to choose from and apparently he's going to do things a little different this time. Grifol also has some bulletin board material that he believes will help get the Sox to be all kinds of fired up. Mike Moustakas is the latest former KC Royal to get a chance with the Sox. Kopech and Crochet are hoping for health and a fresh start. Also, Jerry wants one billion dollars. Thanks for the continued support. Go Sox. #WhiteSox #ChicagoWhiteSox

Ep. 259 - Danny Mendick Revival Tour

Ep. 259 - Danny Mendick Revival Tour

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Pitchers and catchers report to Spring Training in a few days. What a list of names the Sox get to choose from for their starting staff. And how about those catching options? Wow. Utility man folk hero, Danny Mendick, was issued a non-roster invitation and will try to recapture the TWTW from a few seasons ago. Also, there were new renderings of the South Loop stadium and the lack of parking opportunities seemed to have caused a stir. Thank you for the continued support. Go Sox. #WhiteSox #ChicagoWhiteSox

Ep. 258 - Life & Depth

Ep. 258 - Life & Depth

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. The Sox traded away Gregory Santos and Cristian Mena to the Seattle Mariners and Baltimore Orioles, respectively. Santos could very well have been the Sox closer in 2024 and Mena was a well thought of pitching prospect. The Sox got some much needed outfield depth in return. Dominic Fletcher came to the Sox from AZ and should be a player to watch this spring. With all of this outfield depth, does this mean Gavin Sheets will no longer hang out in right field? Romy Gonzalez found a new home and the word rebuild gets its due. Thank you for the continued support, Go Sox. #WhiteSox #ChicagoWhiteSox

Ep. 257 - Saving SoxFest & If Healthy

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. SoxFest will return in 2025. Just in time for the 20th anniversary of the 2005 team. John Schriffen is the new voice of the Chicago White Sox. Another member of the organization that will be learning on the fly. Could Dylan Cease be dealt to Seattle? Yoan Moncada is feeling healthy. Eloy has grand plans if he's healthy and Andrew Benintendi is eating more, but getting healthy. Thanks for the continued support. Go Sox. #WhiteSox #ChicagoWhiteSox

Ep. 256 - The White Sox are Moving North?

Ep. 256 - The White Sox are Moving North?

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Have you heard the serious talks about the Chicago White Sox building a new stadium a few miles north in the South Loop neighborhood? How could you not? Could this really happen or is it all just a distraction from the nothingness that is the White Sox off-season? It's apparently a three person race for the next Sox play-by-play broadcaster. Baseball executives believe Chris Getz will wait and trade Dylan Cease at the deadline. Also, the Sox signed a reliever... surprise, surprise. #WhiteSox #ChicagoWhiteSox

Ep. 255 - Do What You Want

Ep. 255 - Do What You Want

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Garrett Crochet wants to be a starter in 2024 and it sure sounds like Chris Getz wants to give him that opportunity. Maybe the theme for the Sox this season should be: Do whatever you want, nobody is watching. Perhaps other players might explore different avenues. Michael Kopech is in great shape and ready to deliver. There's a new assistant general manager on the South Side and he has Kansas City connections. Also, the Sox released the first wave of the 2024 promotional schedule. Almost all of your favorites are back. Thanks for the continued support, Go Sox.

Ep. 254 - Warm Bodies

Ep. 254 - Warm Bodies

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. As the winter presses on, the White Sox continue to gather players that either were former KC Royals or add some very basic depth to a variety of places in the organization. If quantity was the name of the game, then the Sox are leading the offseason. The Sox hint at an upcoming promotional schedule being release and Luis Robert Jr. will be a focal point in 2024. Also, predictions are made that Dylan Cease will be on the roster on Opening Day. Thank you for the continued support. Go Sox!

Ep. 253 - 2024 AL Central Champs?

Ep. 253 - 2024 AL Central Champs?

Hey Sox fans! Happy New Year and Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. We've got some skin in the game after taking advantage of +3500 odds for our White Sox to win the division in 2024. Sox add some catching depth by bringing in Martin Maldonado. Hopefully his defense returns to accustomed levels and his offense defies all odds. Sox also added some pitching since the last time we talked. Reliever Tim Hill has been added to the bullpen and starter Chris Flexen has been brought into the rotation conversation. These are one year, low risk stop gap moves but do these decisions take advantage of a weak division? Are these the types of moves that make you feel comfortable with the direction the Sox are headed? Here's to a happy and healthy 2024.

Ep. 252 - Season Grievances

Ep. 252 - Season Grievances

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. In the spirit of Festivus, we air some grievances about our beloved White Sox. How can you skip having a fan festival for ALL fans of ALL ages once again? The Sox are honoring season ticket holders in late January but what about everyone else? The disinterest in growing their fan base in a sad state of affairs. Can the Sox benefit from addition by subtraction in 2024? Was Tim Anderson or Yasmani Grandal really the problem? Hopefully the new year will bring along some answers to the many questions that plaque the Chicago White Sox. Happy holidays and thank you for the continued support. Go Sox. #WhiteSox

Ep. 251 - Waiting, Watching and Wondering

Ep. 251 - Waiting, Watching and Wondering

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. If the AL Central is truly for the taking and the Sox think that they can compete in 2024, then what's the holdup? The Royals have made some moves recently that are not terribly flashy but are at least trying. It's still early in the off-season but it's not that early. Are the Sox waiting for the market to play into their hands or are they watching to see what other teams do... maybe they are still wondering what direction to head into? Thank you for the continued support, Happy Holidays! Go Sox.

Ep. 250 - Silent Nights and Glossy Postcards

Ep. 250 - Silent Nights and Glossy Postcards

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. We are celebrating Episode 250. The Sox were quiet during the winter meetings. They made a couple acquisitions but nothing monumental. Despite the nothingness, the Sox sent out postcards to former season ticket holders begging for them to come back. Big, glossy postcards. Chris Getz continues to play up the weak division narrative and Pedro Grifol gives a lesson on chemistry. Do you believe? Thank you for the continued support, Go Sox! #ChicagoWhiteSox #WhiteSox #MLB

Ep. 249 - Winter Wonderland-ings

Ep. 249 - Winter Wonderland-ings

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. As the winter meetings get going in Nashville, we are kicking off Season 6 of the podcast. Thank you for the continued support over the years. It's an important off-season for Chris Getz and the White Sox. To proceed into the the new direction while searching for that new identity, will Getz part ways with Dylan Cease or even Luis Robert, Jr. to help achieve his vision? When will the Sox be good again and what does that even mean? It's probably different for every fan. Lots of players are looking for new landing spots and what will the Sox roster look like after these meetings?

Dec 04, 202301:05:11
Ep. 248 - DeJong and the Restless

Ep. 248 - DeJong and the Restless

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Did Thanksgiving produce any White Sox conversations? Anybody itching to discuss the big Paul DeJong deal or maybe the Oscar Colas workout video? Since we last spoke, the Sox made a few minor acquisitions and continue to be linked to players like Whit Merrifield. It's not a rebuild, it's a reset. With the winter meetings looming, will the Sox be proactive and get a deal done ahead of time? It's almost time for Getz to start manifesting his vision.

Ep. 247 - A Trade and Rumors of Trades

Ep. 247 - A Trade and Rumors of Trades

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. The Sox got things going early and traded Aaron Bummer to the Atlanta Braves for a handful of players. There are some pitching opportunities coming back to the Sox and local boy, Nicky Lopez, will also finally be on the White Sox. Who could be next? Rumors swirl that the LA Dodgers are interested in Dylan Cease. Chris Getz has a definite vision and maybe Eloy Jimenez does not fit into that plan and he is the next to go. Our very own Pat Hester has some intel on SoxFest and the possible relocation of the Sox. Happy Thanksgiving and thanks for the continued support. Go Sox.

Ep. 246 - New Visions but Same Problem

Ep. 246 - New Visions but Same Problem

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. The White Sox announced their 2024 coaching staff and the new hitting coach will be Marcus Thames. It seems like a vision of better situational hitting is shared by both Getz and Thames. Tony La Russa is still around in an advisory role and are the Sox listening to offers on Dylan Cease? Chris Getz does not like the team and Jerry Reinsdorf apparently did not care for Sox play-by-play man Jason Benetti... or at least those are the rumors. Benetti is leaving the Sox booth for Detroit. How did the Sox fumble this situation? Another week, another loss for the Sox. Thank you for the continued support, Go Sox.

Ep. 245 - The Decline of an Option

Ep. 245 - The Decline of an Option

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. The Chicago White Sox declined options on Liam Hendriks AND Tim Anderson. Mike Clevinger declined his option with the team and the Sox said thank you to Elvis Andrus and Yasmani Grandal. Dan Plesac from the MLB Network called the White Sox a sleeping giant in 2024 and Chris Getz talked about everything that needs to be done to get the Sox back on track. The Rangers are the World Series champs but it's doubtful that the Sox will be able to copy that script. The offseason is underway and we now wait to see what direction the team heads in.

Ep. 244 - Nightmare at 35th & Shields

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Nick and Pat talk World Series and if the Chicago White Sox can replicate what the Texas Rangers or Arizona Diamondbacks have done over the last few years. The Sox have hired Matt Wise to be the new bullpen coach. His previous stint was with the Los Angeles Angels and it did not receive favorable reviews from some Angel fans. To keep with the season, Nick and Pat poured over some of the scary stats from the 2023 Sox season. There were no shortage of nightmares but some of the offensive ineptness and pitching regression will leave you sleepless. Thank you for the continued support, Go Sox.

Ep. 243 - What Could Have Been and What Can Be Done

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Nick and Pat weigh in on Kim Ng leaving the Miami Marlins while also trying to handicap the chances that she comes back to the Chicago White Sox. The Philadelphia Phillies are a fun team and resemble the type of ball club we wanted on the South Side. Missing out on Bryce Harper will always be maddening. It's celebrate the 2005 White Sox World Series week! Embrace the memories, the memorabilia and the DVD. If the Sox keep poaching from the Royals, can they at least develop a team HOF? We make selections for the first class of inductees. Thank you for the continued support, Go Sox!

Ep. 242 - KC Chicago White Sox Royals

Ep. 242 - KC Chicago White Sox Royals

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Ever since Pedro Grifol was hired back in November of 2022, the Kansas City Royals/Chicago White Sox connections have continued to develop and the latest rumor oozes Royals blue. According to sources, the White Sox may pursue Salvador Perez and/or Whit Merrifield this offseason. Perez is not a free agent and is owed a considerable amount of money. Merrfield, on the other hand, has a club option. Perez and Grifol have a solid relationship and the Sox may see the services of Perez necessary to reconfigure the culture and chemistry in the clubhouse. Merrifield can play the outfield as well as second base and is durable. The acquisition of Perez or Merrifield do not make the Sox a contending team in 2024 however it further galvanizes the confusing desire for the Sox to mimic the Royals of yesteryear. The White Sox have numerous question marks in the coaching department and on the roster.... advice to Sox fans is to look to Kansas City. Thank you for the continued support, Go Sox.

Ep. 241 - Failed Predictions from a Season of Failure

Ep. 241 - Failed Predictions from a Season of Failure

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Nick and Pat run through their predictions leading up to the 2023 Chicago White Sox season. Many swings and misses on not only individual players but also the team as a whole. Michael Kopech, Dylan Cease, Yasmani Grandal, Eloy Jimenez, Tim Anderson, Luis Robert Jr. and so many more were discussed on this episode. We recap everything from Pedro Grifol's remarks when he was first hired to loss number 101. The expectations were high and the hopes to return to fundamentally sound baseball were strong but they ultimately crashed by mid summer. It's not easy to admit being wrong but that's exactly what Nick and Pat do in Episode 241. Thank you for the continued support, Go Sox. #WhiteSox #ChicagoWhiteSox #MLB

Ep. 240 - Deep Dive Through Garbage

Ep. 240 - Deep Dive Through Garbage

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. The nightmare of a season is finally over. The Chicago White Sox finished the season (61-101) and it was just the 5th time in franchise history that the Sox lost 100 games. We heard from the executives this past week and got a sense of what the focus might be as the offseason begins. Luis Robert Jr. finished the year on the injured list and Yoan Moncada finished things on a high note. The Sox have several question marks in terms of roster spots. What to do with Tim Anderson and Liam Hendriks is also a focal point. If the Sox are to be contenders in 2024, a deep dive will definitely be needed by Chris Getz and his team but the writing is probably already on the wall for 2024. Thank you for the continued support all season long. Go Sox. #ChicagoWhiteSox #WhiteSox #MLB

Ep. 239 - Trying Not to Tap Out

Ep. 239 - Trying Not to Tap Out

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Pat was on assignment this week so Steve Paradzinski and Tony Marchese from Sox On Tap joined the conversation. The Sox announced new hires in the executive department this past week. Gene Watson, Josh Barfield, and Brian Bannister will join the Chris Getz machine. Bannister and Watson have Kansas City Royals connections. What do these additions say about the direction of where the Sox are going? What else from the Kansas City organization will head to the South Side? Salvy Perez? We talk Michael Kopech, Tim Anderson, The Core, Dylan Cease and what simple thing the Sox can change to improve upon the 2023 campaign. Also, why canceling Sox Fest is more than just a canceled fan festival. The Chicago White Sox (60-96) are trying to avoid the 100 loss milestone with just six games to play. Thank you for the continued support, Go Sox. #ChicagoWhiteSox #WhiteSox #MLB

Ep. 238 - Wanted: Baseball players for an MLB team

Ep. 238 - Wanted: Baseball players for an MLB team

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. The Sox lost a series to both the Kansas City Royals and the first place Minnesota Twins since the last episode. The Sox are now 23-29 against the AL Central in 2023. More regression from players and the team this past week. Oscar Colas was sent down again and Michael Kopech has been a mess out of the bullpen. Pedro Grifol has talked about the talent being good on this Sox team but everything has to change and nothing good came out of this season. Seems like a lot needs to be cleaned up in a short amount of time and on a Jerry Reinsdorf budget. How can Grifol and Getz believe that this White Sox team can truly compete in 2024? Are you still watching the Sox regularly? Why do we still watch and will we actually miss it when it's gone? Thank you for the continued support, Go Sox. #WhiteSox #ChicagoWhiteSox #MLB

Ep. 237 - Getz Busy Living or Getz Busy Dying

Ep. 237 - Getz Busy Living or Getz Busy Dying

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. The Sox went (2-4) since our last episode... losing a series to Detroit and also Kansas City. The Sox are (2-7) under the Chris Getz regime. Has Pedro Grifol lost control of the ball club or did he even have any control to begin with? What's the 'White Sox Way' and how can Chris Getz possibly redefine that along with all the other tasks he has on his plate? Yoan Moncada has been swinging the bat well the last few weeks... is it possible to move him in the off season? Is Michael Kopech really heading to the bullpen fulltime? If there are no 'untouchables', then maybe Chris Getz and Jerry Reinsdorf will let Pedro Grifol have some say in the roster reconstruction this off season. Nick and Pat also celebrate the 1993 Chicago White Sox team. Good Guys Wear Black. #WhiteSox #ChicagoWhiteSox #MLB

Ep. 236 - When Different is the Same

Ep. 236 - When Different is the Same

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. The Chicago White Sox are 32 games under .500. Since the last episode, they lost a series to the Orioles, were swept by the Tigers and were embarrassed by the Royals. The inevitable also happened, Chris Getz became the new senior vice president and general manager of the White Sox. Jerry Reinsdorf spoke at the press conference and basically explained that a real search could have been done to find an outside hire but, "Hey, we gotta guy inside the organization and why not just go with him." Getz stated that Pedro Grifol is safe and that thigs will be different under his leadership. Both Jerry and Chris also pointed out that since the Sox play in the AL Central, getting back on track in 2024 is plausible. Plus, with the core of players that the Sox have... the foundation is already in place. Delusion and denial.

Ep. 235 - It Getz Frustrating

Ep. 235 - It Getz Frustrating

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Nick and Pat recap a wild week for the White Sox. The South Siders split with the Oakland Athletics during their most recent series. Lenyn Sosa has been making the most of his playing time and Korey Lee is getting a look behind the plate. Tony La Russa is back in the White Sox fold as a consultant to Jerry Reinsdorf. Did La Russa get Rick Hahn and Kenny Williams fired? Is La Russa helping hire the next general manager? Rumors fly that Chris Getz and Dayton Moore will be the next decision makers on the South Side but there are also reports out there that a real search will take place. Also, are the Sox heading to the West Loop or Arlington Heights when their deal expires at 35th and Shields? Thank you for the continued support. Go Sox.

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. The unthinkable has finally happened... Kenny Williams AND Rick Hahn have been relieved of their duties. Ep. 233 - Bursting Boils & Energy for Pedro

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Nick and Pat breakdown the week that was for our Chicago White Sox. Cubs walked it off against the Sox and crushed some spirits in the process. Tim Anderson's suspension was reduced to five games and he issued an apology. Eloy went on paternity leave and Lenyn Sosa got another opportunity to play with the big club. Sox battled with an equally terrible team and were bested. Pedro Grifol wants more energy, every inning and every game. Bob Nightengale says that changes might be coming to the Sox organization and interviews are being held to determine if changes need to be made. Clear as mud. Thank you for the continued support... Go Sox. #WhiteSox #ChicagoWhiteSox #MLB

Ep. 232 - Cleaning the Cesspool

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Nick and Pat chop up all the latest Chicago White Sox happenings. Sox won a series against the Yankees, then were swept by the Milwaukee Brewers. White Sox are 25 games under .500. Former reliever, Keynan Middleton, had a lot to say about the culture of the Sox organization. No rules. No leadership. Rick Hahn and Pedro Grifol issued statements replying to Middleton's comments. Sox owner, Jerry Reinsdorf, stayed silent of course. Is it time for a reverse boycott? There are plans in place for a reverse boycott to take place on August 24th when the Oakland Athletics are in town. Let your voice be heard. Despite Grifol's lack of interest when it comes to compromising MLB wins for developmental purposes, now is the time to start seeing what you have with some of these young guys. Sox get ready for round two of the Crosstown Series... can they play spoiler? Thank you for the continued support, Go Sox. #WhiteSox #ChicagoWhiteSox #MLB

Ep. 231 - Fighting a Losing Battle

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Nick and Pat weigh in on the Cleveland series and the Tim Anderson/Jose Ramirez 6th inning fist fight. It definitely sparked the team but it is something can help the Sox play better baseball? The Sox are 23 games under .500 have been continually plagued by the same issues all season long. Pedro Grifol is putting it on myself as to why things have not been done correctly over and over again. Is Pedro one and done? Although Pedro puts the blame on himself, shouldn't the players also be held accountable? Jake Burger was traded to Miami and Yoan Moncada still has back issues. Should Dylan Cease have been traded too? Rick Hahn believes the Sox can contend in 2024... contend for what? Thank you for the continued support, Go Sox.

Ep. 230 - Reimagine. Remodel. Rebuild.

Hey Sox fans, welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Nick and Pat weigh in on the Giolito, Lopez, Lynn, Kelly and Graveman trades. Who's next? Lots of rumors swirl that Tim Anderson, Jake Burger, Eloy Jimenez, Yasmani Grandal or Keynan Middleton could be next. Whether we like it or not, Rick Hahn is getting the chance to redo his previous project. Whether we like it or not, Pedro Grifol is allowed to cultivate a new culture and start building for 2024. Will the Sox spend money in the offseason? Attendance has been up throughout the MLB however two teams have seen a significant drop: the Washington Nationals and the Chicago White Sox. Can you stomach another rebuild? Do you believe this organization can develop properly? Do you believe that there can be change with Jerry Reinsdorf still in the picture? #WhiteSox #ChicagoWhiteSox #MLB

Ep. 229 - Flush It

Ep. 229 - Flush It

Hey Sox fans, welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Nick and Pat recap the weekend that was and the state of the Chicago White Sox. The frustrations continue as the Sox were swept by the Minnesota Twins. Sox are (41-60) and 12 games back in the AL Central. Bad execution. Bad managing. Bad fundamentals. Bad baseball. The Sox will be sellers at the deadline and will entrust Rick Hahn to tear things down for a second time. Pedro Grifol went from saying all the right things in the off-season to saying all the wrong things as his team fades away. #WhiteSox #ChicagoWhiteSox #MLB

Ep. 228 - Too little and Too late?

Ep. 228 - Too little and Too late?

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Our good friend, Joey Christopoulos, fills in for Pat Hester and helps chop up the week that was for the Chicago White Sox. The Sox took two of three from the best team in baseball, the Atlanta Braves. After a very rough start to the weekend saw Michael Kopech last only 2/3 of an inning, the Sox settled down and were able to find offense and an answer to some potent Atlanta bats. Jake Burger hit his 20th and 21st homeruns. Luis Robert Jr. not only came back from the calf tightness that held him out of the All-Star game but LRJ also had a solid weekend at the plate. The Sox started the weekend eight games back in the division and they finished the weekend eight games back. Is it just too little and too late for the 2023 White Sox?

Ep. 227 - Worse then being Mired in Mediocrity

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. The Sox were dragged to the All Star break, losing two of three to the St. Louis Cardinals. Sox are sixteen games under .500 and eight games back in the AL Central. One of the lone bright spots, Luis Robert Jr., hit his 26th homerun of the season during the Cardinals series and will be participating in the Home Run Derby in Seattle while also representing the White Sox at the game. How bad do things have to get for Rick Hahn and Kenny Williams to lose their jobs? What about Pedro Grifol? When will Jerry sell? Only 70 games left.

Ep. 226 - Rock and a Hard Place

Hey Sox fans, welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. The White Sox are (34-45) and are six games back in the AL Central. In the past week, the Sox lost two of three to the Rangers and won a series against the Red Sox. It was their first series win since June 8th. Luis Robert Jr. has been on a tear as of late. He hit two homeruns in the series finale and has 21 on the season. Tim Anderson, on the other hand, played hurt and out of position for a few games against Boston. Are the Sox showcasing Anderson at second base so he can be potentially moved? Is the picture any clearer as to what the Sox might do at the trade deadline? If they try to buy, what are they buying with and what team is buying from the Sox? If they sell, are they going to burn things down and start over? Or, maybe the Sox stand pat and try to win the AL Central with what they have in house? Sox head out west to play the LA Angels for our games and then the Oakland Athletics for three. #ChicagoWhiteSox #MLB #WhiteSox #baseball

Ep. 225 - Talk to Jerry

Ep. 225 - Talk to Jerry

Hey Sox fans. Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Nick and Pat discuss the week that was for our Chicago White Sox (31-42). The Sox had a losing week in LA and Seattle. They have lost three series in a row and are a disappointing eleven games under .500 but only five and a half out in the forgiving AL Central. Lance Lynn struck out 16 batters in the Seattle finale and went seven innings but the offense did not show up. The Sox just can't put everything together for a sustainable period. More injuries to report as Yoan Moncada and Mike Clevinger went on the injured list. Tim Anderson left Game 2 of the Seattle series early and did not play on Sunday. The door was open for Zach Remillard to make his major league debut and he made the most of the opportunity. Jake Burger struggled against the Mariners but hitting 8th in the order is tough to justify. Pedro Grifol was asked about the lineup construction and said, "I’m going to put the lineup out there I think is going to help us win ... I don’t have to answer those people [who don't like the lineup]. He’s in the lineup, he’s going to get four at-bats, help us win. Other than that, they can talk to Jerry". White Sox baseball.

Ep. 224 - Heading West & Hoping for the Best

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Sox went (3-3) against the New York Yankees and Miami Marlins this past week. White Sox are (6-3) in the month of June and are (29-38) on the season. The forgiving AL Central continues to keep the White Sox afloat. White Sox had a lead entering the 9th inning in Game 2 of the Marlins series and Joe Kelly completely imploded. Tim Anderson committed another error in a critical situation to make matters worse. In the series finale, Kenyan Middleton and Kendall Graveman let a four run lead evaporate in the 8th and 9th innings. White Sox starting pitching was a bright spot in the Marlins series. Eighteen innings from Dylan Cease, Michael Kopech and Lucas Giolito while only giving up two earned runs. The White Sox now head out west to face the Los Angeles Dodgers and Seattle Mariners. The west has not been kind to the White Sox in the past so a successful road trip could be a lot to ask for. Thank you for the continued support. Go Sox!

Ep. 223 - Winning Ugly, but still Winning... for now

Hey Sox fans. Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. The White Sox (29-35) swept the Detroit Tigers on the South Side and are now 5.5 games back in the AL Central. Jake Burger capped off the sweep with a walk off grand slam. Elvis Andrus and Mike Clevinger returned, while Hanser Alberto was designated for assignment. Is Pedro Grifol trying to create a second base competition in June? Eloy Jimenez continues to hit while playing right field. Does the team still go by way of Tim Anderson? The Sox won an very ugly game that featured wild pitch offense and the home plate umpire getting hit squarely in the face. Do the Sox sell at the deadline and build for the future or just try to win a very bad division? Wins are wins... no matter how bad they are. Hopefully the Sox have a week full of them against the New York Yankees and Miami Marlins. Thanks for the continued support, Go Sox. #WhiteSox #MLB #ChicagoWhiteSox

Ep. 222 - The White Sox are their record

Hey Sox fans. Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. The Sox wrapped up a series in Detroit where they lost 3 of 4. They finished a 13 game stretch against AL Central opponents and went (8-5). Will the Sox be playing meaningful baseball games by the end of the season because they play in the AL Central or will June and July do a number on them, forcing the Sox to be sellers at the deadline? Eloy Jimenez returned to action and Elvis Andrus might be back soon as well. What will the lineup look like? Romy at second? Eloy in RF? Burger DH? Or maybe Burger is at second, Frazier is in RF and Eloy is DH? Where does that leave Elvis and Hanser? Also, very exciting news... Liam Hendriks is back with the White Sox. Unbelievable person and unbelievable story. Thank you for the continued support, Go Sox!

Ep. 221 - Anything's possible in the AL Central

Ep. 221 - Anything's possible in the AL Central

Hey Sox fans, welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Our Chicago White Sox had a (5-1) homestand against the Cleveland Guardians and Kansas City Royals. The Sox capped off their first sweep of the season by beating the Royals, 5-2, on Sunday. The Sox bullpen has been virtually unhittable as of late. Joe Kelly has been absolutely dominant. The starting staff as come around as well and Michael Kopech's outing this past Friday against the Royals was a masterpiece. 8 innings, 10 strikeouts, 1 hit, 0 walks. The Sox lived by the home run earlier in the week but got away from it and survived with some production with runners in scoring position, getting big hits from Jake Burger and Romy Gonzalez over the weekend. Sox (19-29) are 6.5 games in the AL Central and try to keep their winning ways going as they start a series in Cleveland then head to Detroit. Go Sox. #WhiteSox #ChicagoWhiteSox #MLB

Ep. 220 - Stained in Mediocrity

Ep. 220 - Stained in Mediocrity

Hey Sox fans, welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Nick and Pat recap the week that was for our Chicago White Sox. The South Siders lost three of four against the Royals in Kansas City then lost two of three to the Houston Astros at home. The Sox are (6-7) during the month of May and (14-28) on the season. They are nine and a half games back in the AL Central. So many questions but very few answers as to why this Sox team is so bad. General manager, Rick Hahn, was NOT available to talk to the media before the beginning of the most recent homestand. Manager Pedro Grifol had a closed door team meeting prior to Game 1 of the Houston series. The White Sox seem to be spinning their wheels, dealing with never ending injuries, poor play, lousy fundamentals and stuck wondering when everything will finally come together. The good news is that there is a lot of baseball left but the bad news is that there is a lot of baseball left.

Ep. 219 - Time to rebuild the rebuild?

Ep. 219 - Time to rebuild the rebuild?

Hey Sox fans, welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Nick and Pat discuss the week that was for the Chicago White Sox. For the first time all season, the Sox managed to win back-to-back games earlier in the week, and now the Sox have won back-to-back series. Sox put an exclamation mark on the week by beating the Cincinnati Reds in convincing fashion in the series finale, 17-4. It was a positive response from the Sox as they will not have the services of Eloy Jimenez for the foreseeable future. Jimenez had an appendectomy before Game 2 of the Cincinnati series. The Sox are (12-23) and are 7 games back in the AL Central. Playing in Kansas City has been a problem as of late for the White Sox. Can former Royals bench coach, Pedro Grifol, get his team properly prepared to not only play well in KC but have some success? Every series feels like a 'must-win' type of series as the Sox try to dig themselves out before it's too late.

Ep. 218 - Super Terrific Happy Hour

Ep. 218 - Super Terrific Happy Hour

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Nick and Pat chop up the week that was for the Chicago White Sox. The ten game losing streak was snapped on Sunday thanks to an Andrew Vaughn walk off home run. The Sox are (8-21) and nine games back in the Central. Was April really a result of the Sox just playing tough opponents or a result of being a unprepared, lazy, fundamentally weak and poor producing team? Luis Robert, Jr. was pulled from a game because he didn't run out a groundball then blamed his lapse on a tight hamstring that he told no one about before the game. The next day, LRJ did not start the game but came in to pinch hit during a critical moment, with sloppy field conditions. Interesting. There is organizational rot within the White Sox and aside from an ownership change, things will continue to be problematic. Let in burn or hope for a miracle?

Ep. 217 - Lack of Discipline & Less than Mediocre

Ep. 217 - Lack of Discipline & Less than Mediocre

Hey Sox fans! Welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Nick and Pat talk all things Chicago White Sox after the South Siders were swept by the Tampa Bay Rays to fall to a pathetic (7-15) and 5 games back in the AL Central. Through the first 22 games, the Sox have failed to win a series and have failed to win win back-to-back games. Luis Robert went 1-for-14 in the series against Tampa, Eloy Jimenez hit a pair of home runs, the bullpen (minus a meltdown by Lopez in Game 1) was solid and a general lack of plate discipline continued to plague the Sox. Can the Sox get hot in Toronto against the (13-9) Blue Jays before returning home to face the Tampa Bay Rays?

Ep. 216 - New Season, Same Old White Sox

Hey Sox fans, welcome back to Good Guys Talk Back. Nick and Pat recap the week that was for our Chicago White Sox. The Sox are still searching for their first series win after losing 2 of 3 to the Minnesota Twins and then later on to the Baltimore Orioles. Sox defense and pitching have been problematic to say the least. Lots of walks being issued by pitching, especially out of the bullpen. More injuries to report as Yoan Moncada and Hanser Alberto head to the ten day injured list. Jake Burger continues to mash home runs and might force his way into the everyday lineup. The Sox (6-10) find themselves four games out in the AL Central with a rough stretch of April still on the horizon. Sox manager Pedro Grifol has said that he does not like the term "early" when referring to April or May games. The Sox need to start playing with the urgency because right now... it's the same old White Sox.
