Helping Refugees Become Independent and Long-Term Entrepreneurs | BizGees and Arts4Refugees Founder, Zufi Deo | E018

BizGees stands for the autonomy for every human being.

Zufi Deo, one of the founders of BizGees and Arts4Refugees, gives us hope about the changing world and how businesses are already transforming from money-making machines to world changers. He has previously supported 2,000 entrepreneurs in London using the sharing economy approach over 10 years. He currently leads with a team at BizGees and Arts4Refugees to help as many people as possible be self-sufficient and live a prosperous life.

From BizGees:

BizGees stands for the autonomy of every human being. We achieve this by helping post conflict communities pick themselves up once the return home. We support local talent where our customers are based build their careers. We lower our carbon footprint in all our activities.

1 in every 110 people in the world are displaced. At 70.8 million people, the scale of refugee movements seems more daunting than ever. This has led to claims of a global refugee crisis… Humanizing the scale of refugee movements is essential. Anything but drowns out the voices telling the stories we need to hear.

In each region we work with local delivery partners to ensure high and stable rates of our services.  Their local knowledge. Their understanding of the local culture. Their awareness of the local language gives us a deep and unique insight.  This approach also allows us to ensure the impact levels and success rates are high.

We dive deep into charity audited financial statements, tax filings, state solicitation filings, and other information so we can let you know how efficiently a charity will use your donations to fund the programs you want to support. CharityWatch exposes nonprofit abuses and advocates for your interests as a donor.

No to Fast Fashion. YES to Slow Fashion! Interview with Kristian Hansen, the "Jean Pocket Guy", About Sustainable Clothes & Challenging the Fashion Industry "Standards" #jeanpockets

-- About Our Guest --

Kristian Hansen is the definition of a serial entrepreneur and the CEO of Slø fashion.

After Kristian accidentally bought a pair of women's jeans at a thrift shop, it started a journey of discovery into how poorly made women's clothing has become. After noticing the problem and posting it on Tik-Tok, Kristian began looking for a solution for the everyday problem that is affecting the lives of millions of people.

Krisiran is an adventurer, and the visionary behind the world’s first scalable slow fashion system. Backed by over 900 investors, 600k followers, and a team of over 15 people, Kristian is currently building one of the fastest growing fashion start-ups in history with their product, SloJeans.co

Fast fashion is an industry where the world has become accustomed to clothing products having low quality materials, created from poor labor standards, and ending up discarded or destroyed (affecting the environment). Slø fashion is creating the new standard for the fashion and textile industries.

-- About Slø --

Backed by a founding team with fashion, marketing, and social media expertise Slø is creating a first of its kind sizing system, built on a 5 point measurement system delivering a tailored feel for a gender neutral fashion market.

Slø is committed to providing functional, high quality, sustainably made jeans (and other clothes) that are built to fit all bodies no matter the age, shape, gender, size, or background a customer will be “because everybody deserves clothes that make them feel confident and make their lives easier.”

Can Violence Be Done for Good? - TRIGGER WARNING: Poaching Poachers, Disrupting Human Trafficking, Saving Child Soldiers, and More. Host2Host Episode

Can Violence Be Done for Good? - TRIGGER WARNING: Poaching Poachers, Disrupting Human Trafficking, Saving Child Soldiers, and More. Host2Host Episode

We cover topics on organizations that exist today that battle against incredibly violent humans who either willingly or unwillingly cause harm to people, animals, and the planet. We mention organizations that use violence to either prevent or protect against assailants.

Organizations that sedate and then cut the horns off of rhinos to deter poachers who will kill for the rhino's ivory; or of Sam Childers (who you may know from the Hollywood adaptation played by Girard Butler, Machine Gun Preacher) who took arms against the war lords in Sudan and literally use machine guns to save kidnapped kids who were turned child soldiers.

These organizations use violence for the sake of good. Do we applaud these organizations? Do we forsake them? Or, do we feel that we have entered into a grey area?

In this Host2Host episode we discuss the conflicting and controversial actions of these violent GoodCauses.

Interview with Nina Siemiatkowski, Founder of Milkywire - How We Can Engage with Small Good Causes Worldwide & See Live Updates

Interview with Nina Siemiatkowski, Founder of Milkywire - How We Can Engage with Small Good Causes Worldwide & See Live Updates

-- About Our Guest --

Nina: I have always strived for the next step on the corporate ladder, but when I finally was head of marketing for a top 100 Swedish company I realized that the corporate world wasn’t making me happy in the way I once thought it would. I resigned to pursue a full-time career in photography.

Nina: Then between 2012 and 2016, I embarked on a documentary photography project about the life of a lion pride in Kenya. During this time, I faced the reality of the dwindling lion population - that there were only about 20.000 lions left and that the population had halved in the past 20 years. From then on, I became involved with non-profit organizations that were working for the protection of our planet.

Nina: While in Sweden in 2018 I founded Milkywire - a new tech platform for impact. By developing digital tools and modern infrastructure for the charity sector Milkywire connects donors globally to carefully audited civil society organizations working to solve the most pressing planetary problems facing humanity. Through the Milkywire app, website, API tools, employee giving program and more users can discover, connect, and donate to projects around the world fighting the climate crisis, biodiversity crisis, and pollution crisis. Milkywire provides a unique and engaging experience by allowing users to support local grassroots projects directly, connect with the experts working in the field, and see proof of the impact by following their progress through weekly video updates on the Milkywire app.

Interview with Dr. Christine Figgener - How her viral video of a sea turtle with a straw up it's nose led a anti-plastic movement and what you can do to help

Welcome to the GoodViral Podcast!

--- About Our Guest ---

Dr. Christine Figgener. Known as the Sea-Turtle-Straw-Lady, she has raised global awareness of the issue of ocean plastic pollution.

While Christine studies sea turtles, she was thrust into the international spotlight when she filmed and published a video of her research team removing a plastic straw from a sea turtle’s nose. The video was a catalyst for the anti-plastic straw movement and is now considered a pivotal moment for the global awareness of plastic pollution.

An avid science communicator, Christine creates content for social media and speaks at events about sea turtle conservation, fighting plastic pollution, and empowering women in science. In 2018, TIME Magazine honored her outreach and advocacy efforts by naming her a Next Generation Leader.

As the Director of Science & Education for the US-based Footprint Foundation (http://footprintusfoundation.org), she travels the globe educating people about the effects of plastic pollution on our environment and human health and inspiring people to reduce their use of plastic.

She is also the co-founder and scientific lead of a community-centered grass-roots conservation organization in Costa Rica (http://www.coasts-cr.org) that is protecting sea turtles.

Christine’s overall goal is to reach as many people as possible with her message to eliminate plastic from our environment, save sea turtles from extinction, empower women in science, and make our planet safer and healthier for wildlife and people alike.
