#084: Real Talk with Melissa Kim Corter - Writer & Depth Psychologist

#084: Real Talk with Melissa Kim Corter - Writer & Depth Psychologist

“My favorite part about Jungian Analysis is in comparison to a lot of different psychological theories or practices, it doesn't leave out the soul. It includes the soul. I can't imagine doing something without considering that part of us,” - Melissa Kim Corter, Writer & Depth Psychologist.

In this episode of Real Talk, Grace speaks with Melissa Kim Corter, Writer & Depth Psychologist, about her practice of the Jungian Analysis and its use of dreams and symbols to help individuals overcome obstacles and set in motion success both personally and professionally.

In this episode we’ll dive deeper into these key takeaways:

  • Connection. In the Jungian philosophy, the mind and body are intricately linked, fostering a sense of interconnectedness with the broader world and other individuals. This notion of a profound understanding or deeper self resonates across various religious and belief systems.

  • The Power of Intuition. While intuition itself is subject to the nuances of our individual psychological makeup, our ability to channel this intuition can be strengthened. Listen as Melissa shares a few processes that can help strengthen your intuition. Research indicates that dedicating as little as 15 minutes daily to engage with this process can facilitate a transition from heightened Beta or Alpha Beta brainwave states to the more receptive Theta state.

  • Just begin. Start by jotting down your thoughts - what you’re grateful for, or even what happened that day. In doing so, you’ll move your consciousness into a more tranquil state. As Theta impulses begin to manifest, intuitive insights may emerge, initially indistinguishable from one's own internal dialogue.

  • Embrace the ego. In our conscious practice we must discern when our ego is safeguarding us from perceived harm, and instances where it instills unwarranted fear of exploration. How do we do this? Write. Provide these thoughts an outlet so they do not interfere with intuitive processes.

If you’re looking to celebrate connection and community, tune in for this special episode.

#083: Real Talk with Ghassan Shamieh - Attorney Partner at Shamieh, Shamieh & Ternieden

#083: Real Talk with Ghassan Shamieh - Attorney Partner at Shamieh, Shamieh & Ternieden

“It’s not us or them. This is humanity. Everybody wants to live in peace with their families and have basic human rights,” - Ghassan Shamieh, Attorney Partner at Shamieh, Shamieh & Ternieden.

In this episode of Real Talk, Grace speaks with Ghassan Shamieh, immigration attorney partner at Shamieh, Shamieh & Ternieden. The son of Palestinian immigrants, Ghassan was compelled to pursue a career in law after witnessing firsthand the systemic disparities in access to essential services confronting marginalized communities on a daily basis.

In this episode we’ll dive deeper into these key takeaways:

  • Never underestimate the power of showing up. Whether it’s calling your senator or simply listening as someone recounts their experiences, Ghassan explains how the simple act of showing up can impact real change on individual lives and within the legal framework of our nation.

  • Unity through advocacy. Amid ongoing tragedies in regions such as Palestine, Gaza and Ukraine, immigration attorneys nationwide are uniting to advocate for more robust laws and policies, facilitating safe passage and essential services into the United States.

  • Justice through reconciliation. Reflecting on his experiences in South Africa, Ghassan highlights the transformative power of restorative justice, wherein residents of Johannesburg spoke with their former oppressors to address the injustices inflicted upon themselves and their families. Through these profound exchanges, forgiveness and reconciliation were attained, fostering national unity and progression.

  • You are enough. So often individuals grapple with the belief that they must do more to aid those in need. Ghassan, drawing from his own experiences of maintaining physical and emotional well-being, underscores that success lies in striking a balance between professional commitments, familial responsibilities, and the pursuit of social change. A robust support network enables him to remain grounded and focused on manageable objectives each day.

#080: Real Talk with Eddy Khawaja - Security Professional & Chief Security Officer for an international aid organization

#080: Real Talk with Eddy Khawaja - Security Professional & Chief Security Officer for an international aid organization

“We’re all part of one family and one nation, which is the planet. The human condition is our family.” - Eddy Khawaja

This is a special episode of Real Talk. As a Palestinian-American, I’ve been experiencing my own struggle with the pain, suffering, and horror happening in my family’s ancestral homeland. It’s been hard to go on with the day-to-day, knowing that children and civilians are being killed and terrorized as we look on. Many people are losing hope and faith. I turned to a fellow advocate for humanity.

I spoke with Eddy Khawaja, who was born and raised in the Occupied Palestinian Territories and has since lived all over the world. With a background in forensic chemistry and criminal justice, Eddy has worked for the United States Department of Homeland Security and is now a Chief Security Officer for an international aid organization in the Western Sahara. Eddy is also on a lifelong quest for spiritual enlightenment through studying religion, philosophy, and consciousness.

Eddy and I had a raw conversation about humanity, life, and the meaning of it all. It was a healing, spiritual conversation about what we can do to help the world and how to center love, even in dire and catastrophic times.

In this deeply reflective and existential talk, we unpack:

  • Separateness and oneness: Eddy debunks the myth of “us versus them” and the illusion of separation. We are all waves in the same ocean, as he says. We are all one.

  • Love Frequency: Eddy explains that if you love something, you affirm its existence. The love frequency is the highest vibration and frequency we can hold. Tap into this vibration, especially when everything around us is dark.

  • Injustice: Eddy talks about how even one person's suffering anywhere is unacceptable. We also talk about the lessons humanity can learn from the brave children of Gaza.

  • Humanity: Eddy dives into empathy and the understanding that the Divine chose everyone on earth to be here. We are a timeless reflection of the Divine.

  • Self-Love: It starts with us. Eddy tells us we must go within ourselves, get knowledge, connect with a higher source, and keep moving forward. Create and embody the energy and change that you want to see in the world.

  • Energy: Eddy explains how individual self-discovery and self-knowledge help elevate the collective energy. Our energy is powerful and can make changes in the world.

  • Manifestation: Eddy discusses how we can move from despair by holding the vision of what we want the world to be. We are all Creators. Set a positive intention, meditate, and envision a best-case scenario. Trust that it’s already happened. Aim for Heaven on Earth. Eddy encourages us not just to hope but to command what we want into existence through the Law of Resonance!

We need love, light, and peace the most in times like these. I invite you to join us in holding that vision.

With so much love & gratitude,

Grace

#071: Real Talk with Rami Zakkak - Chef & Winner of the Intercontinental San Francisco Luce Culinary Clash of 2023

#071: Real Talk with Rami Zakkak - Chef & Winner of the Intercontinental San Francisco Luce Culinary Clash of 2023

“At some point when you want to pursue your passion, nothing should stop you from doing what you love.” - Rami Zakkak

This Real Talk is a compelling reminder of the power of following your passion, the integral role of a supportive community in your life, and how challenges can be harnessed for creative, out-of-the-box approaches to your circumstances.

The incredible Rami Zakkak joins me on this episode and inspires me with his wisdom! Rami is a 20-year-old Palestinian-American chef, and winner of the InterContinental San Francisco Luce Culinary Clash of 2023. Raised in the Bay Area and deeply connected to his Arabic heritage, Rami shares his culinary journey, plans for the future, and lessons any passion-pursuer can resonate with.

Here are the key moments from this episode:

  1. Rami's background and inspiration: Rami’s love for cooking was largely influenced by his father, who brought home different foods for him to try. Being exposed to a wide variety of flavors early in life, Rami developed a strong passion for culinary arts and hospitality.

  2. The decision to pursue culinary arts: Rami faced the challenge of deciding whether to pursue a general education (GE) degree or commit to culinary school. In a fortunate twist of fate, a culinary school reached out to him, offering both GE and culinary education. This experience led him to commit wholeheartedly to his passion for cooking and hospitality.

  3. Lifestyle changes and stress management: As a chef, Rami has adapted to late nights and busy weekends, with the ironic contrast of cooking upscale food for others while resorting to fast food for himself late at night. He mitigates stress and nerves by focusing on his passion and love for his craft, which helps him bypass barriers and feel authentically comfortable in the kitchen.

  4. Choice of internship and career planning: Rami is in the process of securing an internship and has selected three potential restaurants - Atelier Crenn, State Bird Provisions, and Mourad. His long-term goal is to work under various chefs, travel, and eventually own his own restaurant.

  5. Impact of community and faith: Being part of a supportive community and having a strong faith as a Greek Orthodox Christian has been instrumental in Rami's journey. He has experienced the benefits of a community that cares about his well-being and keeps him on his path. His faith has kept him grounded and encouraged his compassionate approach towards others.

  6. Humility and ambition in the kitchen: Rami values humility greatly. Despite his successes, he aspires to be a "chef of the people," engaging with them directly rather than distancing himself in the kitchen. He emphasizes not forgetting one's roots despite achieving success.

  7. Innovation and fusion in Arabic cuisine: Rami aims to illuminate the richness and diversity of Arabic cuisine beyond staple dishes like hummus, falafel, and shawarma. He experiments with techniques from other cuisines, such as Chinese, and fuses them with his Arabic background to create unique culinary experiences.

  8. Handling confusion and challenges: Rami acknowledges the confusion he experienced in choosing a specific path within the culinary industry. However, he also recognizes that this confusion can nurture creativity, driving him to explore new ideas and ventures.

  9. Passion and persistence: A key message that Rami imparts is the importance of following your passion wholeheartedly. He advises you to listen to others, but ultimately make decisions based on your interests and passions. His own journey is a testament to this advice, with his hard work and focus earning him credibility and success in the form of the Luce Culinary Clash 2023 victory.

Whether you’re an aspiring chef, or someone passionate about pursuing your heart’s calling, you will find tremendous value from this Real Talk!

Tune in to find out what the F stands for! ;) Lisa is a living testimony of leveraging intense challenges from the past to turn them into growth for the future. #062: Real Talk with Terri Donohue - Transformation DEI Coach

“Inclusion is an action before you build diversity.” - Terri Donohue

This Real Talk explores the importance of self-actualizing, inclusion and self-love.

It was a privilege hosting Terri Donohue on this episode. Terri is an Emmy-nominated makeup artist turned Life Coach for women, and Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Coach for organizations. Her work revolves around helping clients grow in their power, transform their inner strength, and have healthier engaging relationships.

Terry highlights the continual process of self-actualizing, and how our growth never truly has an endpoint. She also clarifies the beauty of purpose: it’s not necessarily a grandiose calling you cling to, it’s an energy you ebb and flow in to grow into your highest self.

Terri’s journey from makeup artist to an equity coach was intuitive, and was inspired by her work as the governor of the television academy, where she created diverse categories and bylaws for the Emmys. Her goal has been to center underrepresented groups to bring a positive transformation in company culture and to empower people to become their best selves.

I loved Terri’s insight into Diversity, Equity and Inclusion; how diversity encompasses so much more than race – it includes an array of backgrounds, cultures, feelings, thoughts and differences that ultimately lead to a stronger, more cohesive group.

By exposing ourselves to diverse viewpoints, we expand our knowledge of not just other people, but our unique identities as well.

#061: Real Talk with Nadine Robinson - Holistic Women's Health & Relationships expert, Entrepreneur and International Best-Selling Author

“The very most important thing you can do is have radical compassion for yourself every single moment of every day.” - Nadine Robinson

This Real Talk emphasizes the inherent, sacred value of sex, devotion and self-compassion.

It was a magical, miraculous time hosting Nadine Robinson on this episode. Nadine is a Holistic Women’s Health & Relationships expert, Entrepreneur and International Best-Selling Author.

Nadine gifts us eye-opening revelations about the encompassing power of sex and the gateway of profound, spiritual exploration it provides. She explains that sex goes way beyond the physical mechanics, and at its crux is self-realization rooted in vulnerability, connection and zeal.

Nadine also draws attention to the power of devotion – the radical act of being present in the midst of life’s precious little miracles. Devotion plays a big role in the source of knowing ourselves better, as it allows us to be more aware of the things that bring us pleasure and joy, and allows us the grace to savor those special life-giving moments.

Her perspective on how sex energizes us and connects us to a distinct Oneness was beautiful to listen to, and incredibly insightful.

One of my favorite parts was when Nadine shared that “The most powerful space of devotion is when someone loves you broken.”

It’s an encouraging reminder that we are worthy of unconditional love, despite our self-diagnosed faults. You’re lovable right now!

#060: Real Talk with Anne Hill - Certified Director of Operations and Owner of Hilltop Operations and Consulting

“If you really want to do it, take a leap. But feel very confident in why you’re taking that leap.” - Anne Hill

This Real Talk is packed with tangible wisdom for the everyday entrepreneur and small business owner!

The lovely Anne Hill joins us on this episode. She’s a certified Director of Operations and the owner of Hilltop Operations.

Anne began her entrepreneurial journey in January 2020, after desiring more flexibility, freedom and fulfillment. She spent over 15 years in the Physical Therapy field, where she thrived at managing the operations side of the business. When she got to a point of burnout, she decided it was time for a change.

Anne shares the importance of having a business coach when you’re a business owner. Many times, the journey can feel long and lonely, and a coach with a similar background can play the role of both confidant and cheerleader.

Anne also discusses the flaws of multitasking and the importance of keeping your cup full as an entrepreneur. Whether it’s a strong support system, or self-care in the form of physical activity in the great outdoors, Anne stresses that it’s crucial for business owners to make time for themselves.

My favorite part from this conversation was Anne’s insight about delegation. It seems to be a universal struggle that all entrepreneurs initially have, but is a necessary part of growing and scaling a business.

As Anne says, you provide the most value when you “learn to work on your business; not in your business.”

Fellow business owners, I’d love to hear your favorite takeaway from this episode! Drop me a note on my Instagram or Facebook.

“Intimacy is reciprocal. We can’t go more intimate with someone else than we’ve been willing to go with ourselves. Into-me-see.” - Melisa Keenan

This Real Talk sheds light on masculine and feminine energy, how intimacy is more than an act and feeling, and how women self-sabotage when they don’t cherish themselves first.

I loved hosting Melisa Keenan - Intuitive Intimacy Expert, International and USA Today Bestselling Author, and Keynote Speaker.

Melisa has an uncanny way of simplifying metaphysical truths in a way that is easy to understand.

She provides profound insight into the sacred balance between masculine and feminine energy. She describes how the Feminine Divine empowers women to effortlessly tap into abundance, creativity and appreciation without having to strive for it.

We cover an array of topics in this chat, including why men struggle to authentically express themselves, how sex goes beyond just physical pleasure, and why it’s crucial for high-performing women to anchor themselves in their intuition and heart.

“What I would love to see is a world where people understand that intimacy is actually a state of being. It’s an openness, a closeness, a connection with everything around you,” Melisa explains.

And thanks to her message, that world is being manifested with each person she reaches!

#057: Real Talk with Laurie James - Author & Transformative Coach

“The greater the fear, the bigger the call is to our soul’s evolution.” - Laurie James

This Real Talk touches on relationship truths that span knowing when to let go, self-care that nurtures your soul, and how to overcome loneliness.

On this episode, we’re joined by the wonderful and wise Laurie James - Author and Transformative Coach.

Our heartfelt conversation started with Laurie’s story about listening to her intuition. She had finished the first draft of her book, and instinctively knew that it would have another ending.

She knew what she needed to do in order to secure the freedom found on the other side of fear; she had to leave her marriage.

In the rest of this episode, we cover topics pertaining to inner work and self-care, relationship triggers, and how trauma experiences can attract partners to each other (albeit not in a healthy way).

My favorite part from this Real Talk is when Laurie shared about the importance of surrendering. “I had to let go of the life I planned, in order to find the life I belonged to,” she says, highlighting how things in life can change.

“Step through the fear of letting go, and amazing things can happen. The joy, happiness and freedom – you open up space for them to flood in.”  If you’re in a place where you need clarity in your relationships, this Real Talk is for you!

“The universe will find its way to you as you find your way to it.” - Edward Foster

Strap in for a real feel good(les) conversation! ;)

I had the pleasure of hosting the wonderful Edward Foster, Chief of Staff at Goodles, on this Real Talk.

This episode is packed with Ed’s encouragement, wisdom and perspective on how everything ends up working out for us in the grand scheme.

Before taking a leap of faith to start a career that would lead him to his ultimate dream job, Ed worked in IT and Law. He found himself unfulfilled and taxed by the work he did, and deep down he craved something else.

He wasn’t sure what it was, but he was confident it was out there. Each step he took cleared out the fog of his future, and he now plays a pivotal role in creating company culture that is fun, inviting and productive.

Ed and I also chat about giving yourself the grace and time to hit the pause button on life to reassess. Because of societal pressure, a lot of us find ourselves in a rat race, and end up neglecting our true passions.

Ed provides comforting and encouraging insight about this.

““It’s okay,” is such an important phrase” Ed notes, highlighting the ebbs and flows of life’s successes and lessons.

“You could have it all but not all at the same time; you have to take a step back and take care of yourself.” - Alice Katwan

This Real Talk is packed with beautiful life lessons on what work-life balance can look like, how leadership hinges on authenticity and empathy, and how you can be satisfied with enough.

It was a joy chatting with Alice Katwan on this episode.

Alice has been a high-powered career go-getter the last 24 years. She speaks about how meaningful accomplishments feel, especially after initial feedback from people insisting that it was an impossible thing to do.

One of her core pieces of advice is to stand firm on who we want to be, what we want to do and how we’re going to do it. It’s when this passion is nurtured that we find true fulfillment.

She takes us through her journey of being a career-mom:

her experience with mommy guilt and overcoming it, her biggest “Aha!” moment of discovering her own limitations and knowing when to draw the line, and how leadership was a product of her desire to see other people succeed.

“You naturally attract people based on how you treat them,” Alice observes in our chat. It’s a compelling reminder that soft skills such as empathy and understanding go a long way in our career paths and success.

If you are career-oriented and find it challenging to juggle between work, family and personal life, you’re going to gain a lot of value from this Real Talk!

On this episode, we’re joined by the inspiring Arturo Torres – Personal Trainer, Trail Runner and OCR Athlete and Spartan.

Arturo takes us through his journey of rediscovering and reigniting his passion for physical fitness after the tragic loss of his father in 2014. He doesn’t shy away from talking about the anguish he went through after his father passed away, and the effect it had on his will to go on.

Arturo struggled with his dark place for 18 months before he made the intentional choice to do something about it, and he started building himself back up. He credits his daughter, God and fitness for the significant change in his life, and shares how there’s always a solution to everything.

I was blown away by Artie’s vulnerability in this Real Talk. Through his personal training services, Artie has helped several people through their own dark nights of the soul, especially during the pandemic. He’s been a beacon of hope and encouragement in all he does.

One of the most profound moments from this conversation is when Artie talked about what he did to get back onto a path of self-care:

He started with doing something he loved, and that seamlessly ignited a passion and momentum for him.

If you’ve encountered personal loss, and have struggled with anxiety or depression, you’ll find much comfort and encouragement in this Real Talk. Make sure to share this with someone who you think would benefit as well!

#051: Real Talk with Allyson Chavez - Prosperity and Success Coach

#051: Real Talk with Allyson Chavez - Prosperity and Success Coach

“Your reality will always match your beliefs.” - Allyson Chavez

This Real Talk’s filled with foundational, life-changing lessons on the power of mindset, the critical importance of play, and leveraging the literal forces of trust, faith and gratitude.

I had the privilege of hosting Allyson Chavez on this episode - Allyson is a Prosperity and Success Coach whose knowledge is rooted in both the practical and divine.

Allyson provides keen insight on the differences between masculine and feminine energy and how each affects work, productivity and success differently. Simply put, masculine energy revolves around hustle and grind; the approach of “doing,” while feminine energy revolves around ease and flow; the approach of “being.” Both are needed to tap into achievement and fulfillment.

She addresses the reasons why robotic affirmation and gratitude exercises don’t work at times - it’s because they’re used as weapons of manipulation instead of tools of success. Allyson shares practical ways to build up momentum of genuine gratitude, and the “stupid simple” framework for pleasure, play and flirting with your work.

One of the best takeaways from this chat for me was this:

You don’t do things to make yourself whole. You recognize that you’re whole first, no matter what, and from that place everything flows effortlessly.

If you’re an ambitious go-getter who has experienced exhaustion from all the hustle and grind, you’re going to be replenished and reinvigorated by this Real Talk.

Send me a message on my Instagram or Facebook letting me know what your favorite practical takeaway from Allyson was!

With so much love & gratitude,

Grace 💋

#050: Real Talk with Erika Hazel Jordan - The Bizerkeley Vegan, Social Media Influencer, Food Blogger, Event Manager & Speaker

“That’s the scary part – because it doesn’t feel like work, it’s hard to slow down, take breaks and rest; because I’m having so much fun, I don’t realize when I’m running on E.” - Erika Hazel Jordan

This Real Talk features insight into various aspects of the entrepreneur’s journey: the balance between effortless action and self-care when it comes to doing what you love, the importance of knowing your giving limits, and framing the way you think about delegation.

I was joined by the ever so charismatic and wise Erika Hazel Jordan - the Founder and face behind The Bizerkeley Vegan, Social Media Influencer, Food Blogger, Event Manager and Speaker.

Erika’s entrepreneurship and event management journey started when she was 8 years old, with her organizing a clothing and food drive for local children and families who were housing-challenged. She’s always had a heart for philanthropy, which continues to manifest in tangible service to her community to this day.

In our chat, Erika got vulnerable about how doing all the things, all the time, all by herself eventually led to physical burnout. It ultimately turned out to be a blessing as it allowed her to reset, reassess and reorganize her life, goals and perspective.

“Being a giver has its limits,” she notes, when discussing how trying to pour into others when you’re an empty cup is self-defeating. She had profound insight on how go-getters need to be aware of their boundaries and not run themselves into the dirt, despite how much of an emphasis society places on being the selfless martyr.

Get ready for a feel-good conversation that will leave you encouraged and more open to asking for support when you need it!

#049: Real Talk with Diana Allen - Life and Career Empowerment Coach

“Befriending fear – befriending our inner critic – is so helpful.” - Diana Allen

This Real Talk highlights the importance of a celebration mindset, the three crucial words to ask yourself when confronted with negative self-talk, and how to push back against fear!

I had a lovely time chatting with Diana Allen – Life and Career Empowerment Coach.

Diana and I share many similarities, including our robust involvement with executive recruiting. For over 30 years, Diana served hundreds of people through her recruiting career. After realizing she had a passion for helping people find their power to design the lives that they really want, Diana transitioned to the Life and Career coaching space!

There’s so much to glean from her story, especially her wisdom regarding how to make a leap toward a more fulfilling life, despite what the naysayers think.

Her celebration mindset approach is critical to making progress over time, as it focuses on celebrating even the tiniest of wins, and reframes “losses” to be celebration worthy too!

One of my favorite parts of this Real Talk was our discussion around the importance of the thoughts that we tell ourselves everyday. Circumstances align with what you continually tell yourself, and can have either negative or positive repercussions.

Strap in for an insightful, encouraging conversation with the lovely Diana Allen, and make sure to drop me a note on my Instagram or Facebook about what your favorite takeaway is!

If you enjoyed this episode share it! Remember sharing is caring and you never know who may benefit from the wisdom dropped!

#048: Real Talk with Julie Del Santo - Founder, Broker and Owner of Dudum Real Estate Group

“‘The best is yet to come’ doesn’t mean you just sit around waiting; it’s telling yourself you have an opportunity to tap into to dictate what the results will be.” - Julie Del Santo

Hope you’re ready for an overflow of wisdom and encouragement, because this Real Talk’s packed with it!

In this episode, I was joined by the remarkable Julie Del Santo - Founder, Broker and Owner of Dudum Real Estate Group, the fastest organically grown real estate company in the East Bay and one of the Top 100 Places to work in the East Bay for best work environment.

One of the core beliefs that Julie lives by is that “The best is yet to come.” It’s a refreshing perspective rooted in appreciation for the present, while still being open to constantly growing and expanding in different areas of life.

Julie touches on the importance of balanced pressure, getting comfortable being uncomfortable, and giving yourself the time to pause and reset.

My favorite line from this chat was Julie’s insight on what happens when we get lost in the rigamarole of daily life:

“You’re running ahead of your soul. You’re going, but you’ve got to pause to make sure your soul can keep up with you.”

It was a brilliant reminder that while it’s good to be in a growth mindset, it’s vital to not lose yourself in the busy-ness of it all, and instead rest and reorient yourself toward what truly fulfills you.

This Real Talk will leave you inspired, grateful and with a fresh perspective on the Law of Abundance, seeking support, and leaning into your inherent greatness.

Make sure to share this episode with someone who you think will benefit from it!

#047: Real Talk with Elise Bigley - Professional Makeup Artist and Hairstylist specializing in commercial, film, portrait and bridal artistry

“It’s not who you are that holds you back; it’s who you think you’re not.” - Elise Bigley

This Real Talk covers integral aspects of the Entrepreneur’s journey, how assessing fear can motivate you, and the best fuel for optimism.

I loved chatting with Elise Bigley - Professional Makeup Artist and Hairstylist specializing in commercial, film, portrait and bridal artistry.

Elise is a master at her craft, with over 20 years of experience in her industry. She shares how her love for makeup artistry started in her teenage years, and how becoming a mother motivated her to embark on her entrepreneurial journey. She transitioned to freelance work for both the freedom and to model a life to her kids that capitalized on opportunities, even if the path was unconventional.

Elise’s wisdom shines throughout this Real Talk as she discusses her approach to confronting fear, how previous challenges molded her to be more resilient, and her key piece of advice for people who want to create an entrepreneurial life for themselves.

One of my favorite lines from Elise was: “A breakdown means a breakthrough.”

She spoke about how the bright side of life is only as bright as it is when contrasted with the dark times we’ve been through. It’s this balance and contrast that develops gratitude, which is essential for a positive outlook.

If you’re a go-getter and entrepreneur who is starting to build your personal brand, you’ll love the lessons that Elise shares in this Real Talk!

#046: Real Talk with Melissa Kim Corter - Best-selling Author, Hypnotherapist, Speaker and Artist

#046: Real Talk with Melissa Kim Corter - Best-selling Author, Hypnotherapist, Speaker and Artist

“Enchantment isn’t just found in castles and in nature; it is everywhere that we go and choose to visit.” - Melissa Kim Corter

This Real Talk is magical from start to finish, and goes over hustle culture, burnout, and how Enchantment can be therapeutic and help us manifest realities beyond our wildest dreams!

It was an absolute pleasure chatting with Melissa Kim Corter - Best-selling Author, Hypnotherapist, Speaker and Artist.

Melissa shares about her journey of magic and enchantment, and how her story originally started with her feeling disenchanted, disconnected, and disempowered. As a hard worker, she was entrenched in hustle culture, and realized that even though she celebrated her accomplishments, they didn’t make her any more whole or complete; they didn’t make her world magical. She had to be the one who flipped that switch on.

Melissa highlights differences between masculine and feminine energy, and how they complement each other in both our professional and personal lives. She also talks about the rejuvenating and self-healing benefits of the Sacred Pause, and how slowing down the Pause gives us space to let things happen instead of trying to dictate what happens.

One of my favorite parts of the conversation was when Melissa talked about toxic positivity - a propensity to only focus on the light and higher outcome, while losing the value of the shadow. It was profound!

If you’re someone who works hard toward your goals, yet feels a lack of fulfillment, then this Real Talk is for you!

I’d love to hear your favorite takeaway - drop me a DM on my Instagram!

#045: Real Talk with Kelly Green - Owner and Principal Instructor of KG Fitness Studio in San Mateo, and Eating Disorder Intuitive Therapy Coach

#045: Real Talk with Kelly Green - Owner and Principal Instructor of KG Fitness Studio in San Mateo, and Eating Disorder Intuitive Therapy Coach

“You keep reminding people that whatever they’re doing - it’s for them, and nobody else.” - Kelly Green

This Real Talk is filled to the brim with wisdom pertaining to self-image, grit, and embracing your unique personal journey.

I had the pleasure of hosting Kelly Green again on the podcast! Kelly is the Owner and Principal Instructor of KG Fitness Studio in San Mateo, as well as an Eating Disorder Intuitive Therapy Coach.

Kelly exudes uplifting, light-hearted energy in this chat, balanced with raw honesty around hard-hitting topics.

She shares about how fitness is a mental, emotional and spiritual journey, and a lot of the lessons and skills built in the gym translate to the rest of life. She stresses the importance of embracing your own journey of self-growth, and not comparing it to anyone else’s; mentioning how comparison is self-sabotage and we end up becoming our biggest enemy.

Kelly highlights the secret behind always showing up with a smile, and how the attitude hinges on doing what you love, supported by the people you love.

One of the moments that stuck with me the most was when she recounted the story about opening up her gym for the very first time at the height of the pandemic, and being fraught with self-doubt. She asked her husband if she was crazy for what she was about to do, and his response was short but profound:

“You’d be crazy if you didn’t.”

If you’re up for a feel-good conversation that will leave you inspired to be positive in your self-talk, kinder with yourself in your journey, and motivated to persevere through challenging circumstances, then this Real Talk is for you!

Please make sure to share this with someone in your tribe!

#044: Real Talk with Coach Patrick Walsh - Head Coach of Junipero Serra High School Varsity Football Team, 2020/2021 Football Coach of the Year, and Owner of Next Level Sports

#044: Real Talk with Coach Patrick Walsh - Head Coach of Junipero Serra High School Varsity Football Team, 2020/2021 Football Coach of the Year, and Owner of Next Level Sports

“Our energy source for our brotherhood is love for one another.” - Patrick Walsh

This Real Talk features lessons on leadership, community and purpose fueled by active love for the people you link arms with.

Coach Patrick Walsh joined me on this episode, and I was inspired by his insight and training philosophy as Head Coach of the Junipero Serra High School football team.

As Head Coach, Coach Walsh has led his Padre team to over 170 victories that have culminated in visiting the CA State Championship 4 out of the past 6 years, and winning the CIF State Championship in 2017. He also played an integral role in the restart of California youth sports in December 2020, which literally affected millions of young lives.

One of the most eye-opening parts of this conversation was Patrick’s approach to football:

To him, the sport is less about football, and more about the opportunity for young men to partake in a shared competitive activity that nurtures humility, commitment, discipline, and ultimately, love for the other people on the field with them.

He explains that the energy source for the brotherhood he’s created for his athletes is love for one another, and that purpose is what the Padre community rallies around.

Coach Walsh also highlights aspects that allow leaders to be effective and bring out the best in their people, and how delegation in itself is a form of love because of how it empowers others to grow.

If you’re drawn to leadership and sports, and have a bit of an underdog competitive streak in you, then you’re really going to enjoy this Real Talk!

#042: Real Talk with Harold Atkins - President and Head Coach of the Menlo-Atherton Vikings football program

“The fixed mindset will have you believe that you’re an a-hole for life. But I believe in the growth mindset; where you can change everything by tomorrow.” - Harold Atkins

This Real Talk highlights the critical need and transformational benefits of preparation, the importance of level-headed perspective, and the immeasurable impact of being intentionally present.

On this episode, I had the privilege of chatting with Harold Atkins - President and Head Coach of the Menlo-Atherton Vikings football program. In addition to coaching high school football, Harold works with youth who are incarcerated, and/or re-entering from the juvenile justice system, by leading job readiness workshops, skill building programs, and teaching vital life skills. His number one goal is to help others learn the art of preparation and resiliency.

Harold has an incredibly inspiring story – one that starts from the bottom. He grew up with tough circumstances in East Palo Alto, which ultimately culminated in him serving time at San Quentin when he was 18.

Harold turned his life around thanks to the power of mindset, tangible skills and community, and now dedicates his time to youth as a guide who helps them prepare for the demands and rigors of life.

One of my favorite parts of this conversation was the nuance that Harold brought. We spoke about the active choice he made to hold himself accountable and the steps he took to bring a new reality into fruition, and he made it clear that while that was the right model for him, others may have a tougher time implementing a new mindset based on their current state and circumstances. It was an eye-opening reminder to be compassionate with people, despite what you see on the outside.

Harold also highlights the impact that comes from being fully present with the people you’re trying to reach out to, and the symbiotic relationship between mindset and skill set.

Prepare yourself for a profound, candid conversation, and share this with a parent who would resonate with Harold’s “Art of Preparation” approach!

With so much love & gratitude,

Grace 💋

#041: Real Talk with Rebecca Wiener McGregor - Amplifier of Love, Catalyst for Breakthroughs, and Author

“That desire to be perfect, is a way for you to be in constant judgment of yourself. And judgment is the opposite of love.” - Rebecca Wiener McGregor

This Real Talk is chock-full of wisdom relating to perfectionism, how to cope with fear, and the beauty of working on yourself first.

It was a joy chatting with Rebecca Wiener McGregor - Author, Transformational Hypnotist, and Money Mindset Coach.

Rebecca has been a mentor since 2004, and has been committed to sharing her gifts and wisdom with over-working and over-giving visionaries in order to help them release old blocks, traumas and hidden fears to find a deeper sense of self-worth and fulfillment.

Rebecca’s insight on listening to our fears instead of pushing them away is a novel (and incredibly empowering) approach to shining a light on self-limiting beliefs.

I also loved her thoughts on how perfectionism masks harsh self-judgment, and the most effective way out of the cycle is by being self-aware, and infusing love in that moment.

If you’ve struggled with perfectionism, or wrestled with fear, anxiety, shame or the blame game, then you’re going to love the freedom that Rebecca brings to this conversation.

She effortlessly reminds us of this crucial message: We’re already whole and complete and full, and there’s no such thing as asking too much in a limitless universe.

#040: Real Talk with Chellie Phillips - Coach, Corporate Trainer, Motivational Speaker, and an Award-Winning Author

“No one’s going to pay you what you're worth; only what they think you're worth.” - Chellie Phillips

This Real Talk features a tactical chat around ways to shift your mindset, develop your own personal brand, and the importance of keeping a running tally of your wins!

I was joined by Chellie Phillips - Coach, Corporate Trainer, Motivational Speaker and Award-winning Author - and I’m grateful for the insight she shared that can benefit Employee and Employer alike.

We chatted about how candidates can make themselves more appealing to prospective employers by maintaining an authentic, cohesive personal brand across all social media platforms. Chellie also touched on how fear of inadequacy boils down to a lack of self-confidence, which can easily be solved with a few practical tips that she shared in this conversation.

One of my favorite parts of this Real Talk was Chellie’s inspiring story about the strength and positive mental talk it took to leave a career of 20 years. She managed to flip the “fruit loops” narrative to her advantage, and provides us a real-world example of how to respond when we face negativity in the workplace.

#039: Real Talk with Michelle Petties - Author of “Leaving Large: The Stories of a Food Addict”, Speaker, Master Food Story Finder, and Experiential Eating Expert

“You’re not saying no to french fries; you’re saying yes to the body and health you want.” - Michelle Petties

This Real Talk presents a generous serving of food for thought around how we view food, why we eat what we eat, and our underlying food stories that dictate our food habits and behavior.

I had the immense pleasure of chatting with Michelle Petties - Author of “Leaving Large: The Stories of a Food Addict”, Speaker, Master Food Story Finder, and Experiential Eating Expert.

After gaining and losing 700 plus pounds over four decades, Michelle discovered that the “secret” to finding freedom from food addiction is in the “story” behind the events, experiences and memories that formed her beliefs, attitude, and habits about food, eating and hunger.

Michelle stresses the importance of understanding that we manage food and have relationships with people (not the other way around), and also equips us with 3 instrumental questions we can use to gauge if we’re eating for the right reasons.

Michelle is an incredible inspiration, and one of my favorite parts from this chat was when she shared about how indulging in food to suppress emotion ultimately blocks us from stepping into our full power and sharing our unique gift with the world.

This Real Talk invites you to assess your perception of food, and the unique Food Stories you carry. I’d love for you to listen through the episode and share one of your food beliefs if you’re comfortable - there’s power in community and connection!
