Be Different. Be Thankful.—Josiah Kagin
Be Different. Be Thankful.—Josiah Kagin
God calls on His children to be different. Our world is full of darkness, but in Christ we are light and we must determine to live as light. In this season of Thanksgiving, we have the incredible opportunity to truly be different and shine our light by being thankful. Ephesians 5:8 For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light. Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven. Righteous Judges—Josiah Kagin
Righteous Judges—Josiah Kagin
God and the communication His Word cannot be not compartmentalized. God is interested in all area and arenas of our living—private, public, church, work, community and government. Romans 11:3 says, “For of him, and through him, and to him, are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.” Proverbs 3:6 reminds us, "In all thy ways acknowledge him, And he shall direct thy paths.” As we approach another day in the life of our nation when we will choose rulers over us, we should remember that those who rule over us are a reflection of us. Throughout Biblical history, God commanded that the judges set over His people would be righteous (Ezra 7:25). According to Amos 5:13 unrighteous judges diminish the voices of the righteous. Today we will see from Isaiah’s prophecy how that judges directly affect the righteousness of a nation. And He Followed Jesus—Josiah Kagin
And He Followed Jesus—Josiah Kagin
A true friend is the one who walks in when others walk out. —Unknown Jesus, the Son of God, came into the world to serve the greatest need of humanity. “For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.” (Mark 10:45)  Through His life and ministry on earth, He consistently demonstrated His loyal love and true friendship by serving both people’s temporal physical needs and their eternal spiritual needs. In today’s narrative, we find Jesus on His way to Jerusalem. There He would willingly lay down His life as the full payment for all the sins of all mankind that God required. This would be the most extravagant demonstration of love and friendship the world would ever see. Yet on His way, Jesus took time to be a true friend to one blind man and gave him back his sight. He had a need that only Jesus could have met and when Jesus did, Bartimaeus followed Jesus. May this be our story as well.  Download Notes Thanks for joining us for this episode and please take a moment to subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. Investing in the Triumphs of Christ—Mission Weeks 2022—Josiah Kagin
2 Corinthians 2:14 Now thanks be unto God, which always causeth us to triumph in Christ, and maketh manifest the savour of his knowledge by us in every place. The church at Philippi was passionate about helping Paul spread the message of the Gospel into other cities in their region. The truth of the Gospel had triumph in their lives and they wanted the same for others. When Paul wrote his letter to them, he commended them for their sacrificial generosity. It was their financial investment in work of the Lord through Paul that had enabled the Gospel message to be preached in Thessalonica and many other cities. Today we will discover what happens with churches and believers like us invest in missions.  Download Notes Thanks for joining us for this episode and please take a moment to subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. Unencumbered Urgency—Missions Prayer Band—Josiah Kagin
Note — “After these things” formally began the solemn marches in the direction of Jerusalem, which ended, as we have stated, in the last Passover. Roughly speaking, the seventy were first sent out about the October of the last year of the public ministry. There were many towns and villages that Jesus planned to engage and need the help of the seventy to prepare His way. They were acting as a sort of front team. Jesus was very specific how He expected these missionaries to go ahead of Him and prepare the way. Let’s notice how they were to approach this specific missions trip? Leaving Our Comfort Zone—Missions Prayer Band—Josiah Kagin
Jesus prepared the seventy missionaries that he had specifically called and assigned to specific places. He instructed them that as they were praying for more laborers to join in His mission, they were indeed to go forth at His command. They needed understand that obedience to this command would require them to leave their comfort zones and trust in Christ’s care. As we pray for more laborers, may we be willing to go and leave our comfort zones trusting fully in the care of our Savior. Extending the Triumph of Christ—Mission Weeks 2022—Josiah Kagin
Extending the Triumph of Christ—Mission Weeks 2022—Josiah Kagin
Paul is in the middle of his third missionary journey. He has just left places like Ephesus and Smyrna. God had been at work in major ways. In fact, every where that Paul preached the truth of the Gospel, it triumphed in lives. As Paul came into the city of Troas, he could not help but remember how God had specifically directed him through a vision to continue on to Macedonia. He had not had time to preach the Gospel in Troas, but as he did, it was clear that God had opened the hearts of the townspeople. Many were believing on Christ and a church was planted. He stayed and preached even though he had a nagging worry in his heart. He had written a heavy letter to the dear believers in Corinth addressing the sin of division and fornication in the church. He wanted to know how those who were addressed had responded. Titus was supposed to have met him in Troas with the report, but Titus was no where to be found. Paul journeyed on to Macedonia and finally found Titus. After Paul heard Titus’ report, he wrote a second letter to the Corinthians. While he needed to clarify a few misconceptions, Paul did rejoice in how God was extending the triumph of Christ in every place God sent Paul. As we begin our Mission Weeks, let’s see how Christ desires to do the same through our lives in every place. The Heart and Prayer of Christ—Missions Prayer Band—Josiah Kagin
The Heart and Prayer of Christ—Missions Prayer Band—Josiah Kagin
In the context of the high cost of discipleship, Jesus selects and sends seventy of His followers into every city and place that He planned to go personally. Their mission was to preach of the Savior and urge men to turn to Him. Jesus gave them instructions and then sent them out in teams of two to accomplish the work. From this passage of Scripture, we catch the heart of our Savior work yet to be accomplished in the harvest fields of the world as well as the laborer shortage. As we enter Mission Weeks here at Grace Baptist Church, we want to continue to place priority on what Christ gave to those disciples as the solution to this great need—pray. Tonight, we will begin our Mission Prayer Band considering the heart and prayer of Christ and then pray for a specific nation together. Using Freedom—Acts—Josiah Kagin
Using Freedom—Acts—Josiah Kagin
In chains, Paul declared his testimony of faith in Jesus Christ of Nazareth as he stood on the stairway of the Fortress Antonia with soldiers posted around him. His Jewish audience listened in silence as he spoke to them in Aramaic until he demonstrated affinity toward the Gentiles. Immediately, a great disturbance broke out again. This kind was the kind of uprising that the Chief Captain, Claudius Lysias, was responsible to crush. In order to do so, he needed to know what kind of criminal would cause such a disruption of the peace. As Paul faced a torturous interrogation, he announced his Roman citizenship. This allowed for Paul to eventually take the Gospel to Rome and to Caesars household. Like Paul, we too should use the freedoms of our citizenship to serve our Savior and not self.   Download Notes Thanks for joining us for this episode and please take a moment to subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. How the Life of Faith Works—Talk Less, Pray More—Josiah Kagin
How the Life of Faith Works—Talk Less, Pray More—Josiah Kagin
The book of James was penned under inspiration of the Holy Spirit through by Pastor James, the half-brother of Jesus Christ. As the pastor of the Church at Jerusalem, he was influential in the lives and faith of the Jewish believers that had been scattered abroad due to intense persecution. The main point of this book was to address the issue of faith and works. The main take away from this important, practical book is that true faith works. The theme was not so much faith and works, but faith that works. It is fitting that the conclusion all the differing admonition concerning faith should be a call to simple faith-filled prayer. James use the Old Testament example of Elijah as a relatable illustration about the incredible impact of prayer offered by a normal man who believed God. We should be encouraged that we have the same opportunity to see God work wonders through the fervent prayer of believers just like you.  Download Notes Thanks for joining us for this episode and please take a moment to subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. Paul Shares His Story—Acts—Josiah Kagin
Paul Shares His Story—Acts—Josiah Kagin
The grace of God enabled Paul to show deference toward His fellow Jewish believers who had a differing perspective as well as maintain composure in the face of the beating and persecution from the unbelieving Jews from Asia in the Temple. His composure in the midst of chaos opened up a God-sized opportunity to be share his story of salvation in Jesus Christ. We can all learn from Paul’s example to allow the grace of God to be upon us so that we are ready at any time, good or bad, to share our story of how we met Jesus. Acts 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth. A witness is someone who sees an event and reports what happened. Composure in Chaos—Acts—Josiah Kagin
Composure in Chaos—Acts—Josiah Kagin
Paul arrived in Jerusalem to deliver a love offering for the suffering Jewish believers and for a celebration of Pentecost. It had been 20 years since the first Pentecost. No doubt Paul was anticipating the celebration and how he would recount to the church all that God had done throughout the world! The Gospel has touched both the Jew and the Greek. How big is God?! However, the warm welcome he received on day one cooled a bit as Paul met with Pastor James and the other pastors. He quickly discovered that his presence was going to create a stir in Jerusalem and the church leadership was nervous. Let’s observe the Paul’s choices in the midst of the challenges he faced. Forward Fervently—Acts—Josiah Kagin
Forward Fervently—Acts—Josiah Kagin
Self-preservation is a natural human response in the face of danger, adversity, and struggle. When we observe a life that is totally abandoned to a cause no matter the personal cost, it causes us to marvel. Paul pressed fervently forward in faith and to the finish undeterred by the pleadings of those who loved him. Paul truly loved Christ more than his own life. He provides for us an example of living a life with no self-preservation. Matthew 10:37–38 He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me. 38 And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after me, is not worthy of me. Inside a Pastors Conference (Part 4) — Acts — Josiah Kagin
On his way to Jerusalem to celebrate Pentecost with the believers there, Paul had a voyage layover in Miletus. He summoned the Ephesian pastors to travel the thirty miles south to Miletus so that he could encourage them in the ministry. Paul knew that the best way to encourage the Ephesian believers in their faith was to encourage their pastors. He provided an excellent example of the importance of leading leaders. As their time came to a sorrowful close, Paul turned from the subject of his ministry philosophy and his own ministry path forward to a specific message for the Ephesian pastors. The points of this admonition are both relevant and vital for pastors and disciples alike today. Let’s be good students as we study this God inspired message that Paul delivered to the pastors of Ephesus. Inside a Pastor's Conference (Part 2)—Acts—Josiah Kagin
Inside a Pastor's Conference (Part 2)—Acts—Josiah Kagin
Paul was in the final stretch of his third missions tour. As usual, this tour was about church planting and discipleship of the new believers and leaders. The Holy Spirit had prompted him that it was time to return to Jerusalem. Paul was diligently obeying these promptings, traveling toward Jerusalem as quickly as he could. During one of the voyage layovers in a town called Miletus, Paul planned a pastors conference with the pastors from the assemblies in Ephesus. Because this would be the last time they would see one another on earth, Paul poured out his heart rehearsing his personal ministry philosophy and his ministry path forward. As we tune into this conference today, may we catch the heart of the Apostle Paul for the local church and its leaders as well as grow in our commitment to our local church. Spiritual trials in the lives of others can dishearten us in the way. Paul was concerned for the Ephesian believers becoming disheartened because of his sufferings. Paul was in prison hundreds of miles away from these precious saints. How could he be of any encouragement to them? Paul chose to pray. Context Paul is in prison. (Ephesians 3:1) Paul was explaining parenthetical Church Age (Ephesians 3:6) There was a potential that the Ephesian church would be dishearten by the news of Paul’s suffering. (Ephesians 3:13) Paul was about to practically apply the doctrine of chapters 1-3. In a Pastors Conference (Part 1)—Acts Series—Josiah Kagin
In a Pastors Conference (Part 1)—Acts Series—Josiah Kagin
The Work of Discipleship—Acts Series—Josiah Kagin
The Work of Discipleship—Acts Series—Josiah Kagin
God had powerfully worked in the city of Ephesus. Many had received Christ and had made decisions to make a clean separation from ungodliness in their personal lives. Their choices effectively impacted the economy of idol sales, the worship of the goddess Artemis as well as the local officials of the city. The power of Christ to change lives was clearly seen, but not liked by all. Following a great uproar in the Theatre along with God’s providential deliverance, Paul purposefully determined that he would travel to Macedonia to carry on the work of discipleship there. Along the way, men that he had led to faith in Jesus Christ accompanied him and helped him in the work of the ministry. In every place, Paul communicated the Word of God and exhorted the disciples of Christ. Like Paul, we need to be committed to being a disciple and making disciples Disciple: A disciple is a committed follower of Jesus Christ. One who loves Christ so much that he has forsaken all to follow Christ.  Luke 14:33 So likewise, whosoever he be of you that forsaketh not all that he hath, he cannot be my disciple. Christ's Word Changes Culture—Acts Series—Josiah Kagin
Christ's Word Changes Culture—Acts Series—Josiah Kagin
During his third missions tour, Paul served Christ in the commercial seaport City of Ephesus. That season of ministry among the Jews and the Gentiles was marked with the demonstration of the power of God’s Word. As Paul preached, both the hearts of the religious and the heathen were changed and many received Christ by faith. The effects of the ministry there reverberated throughout all of Asia. The new believers in Jesus Christ were determined in their commitment as followers of Jesus Christ. They wholeheartedly separated themselves from their old sinful lifestyles so much so that it literally impacted the economy. The idol shops were on the verge of going out of business and the Temple of Artemas was losing worshippers. It is exciting to see how that God’s Word had the power to change culture. It is even more exciting to realize that God’s Word has not lost its power! Final Thoughts for a Healthy Church – Healthy Church – Josiah Kagin
Final Thoughts for a Healthy Church – Healthy Church – Josiah Kagin
Paul gives a powerful summary of practical instruction for the assemblies on the island of Crete. Titus had been left in Crete to set in order the things that were lacking in the church. This was a huge, spiritual project of developing health in the believers there. The letter that Paul wrote to Titus, as his son in the faith, would be of great help in bringing health to the church. As we conclude this short but powerful letter, may we receive these final thoughts and apply them into our personal lives so that we too can be a health church. Christ's Word Confirmed – Acts – Josiah Kagin
Christ's Word Confirmed – Acts – Josiah Kagin
John 18:38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all. The people of Ephesus were no different than we are today. It was a wealthy, immoral, pluralistic culture that diligently sought the best life for themselves. They found some form of solace in the worship of their many gods. However, even in the midst of standing up for the worship of their gods, they found themselves full of confusion (32). When Paul arrived, he began to preach Jesus Christ as the only way to have forgiveness and eternal life. The truth of Jesus Christ triumphed over the falsehoods that has shackled Ephesus in spiritual bondage. While this caused a city-wide commotion, it must be observed that God confirmed His truth before a wicked culture and still does. Christ's Words Work – Acts – Josiah Kagin
Christ's Words Work – Acts – Josiah Kagin
The fundamental need of every person in America is Jesus Christ. One to the hindrances to the spread of the Good News of Jesus Christ is religion itself. Religion is a man made system of meriting the favor of God or gods. There is an estimated 4,200 different religions in the world today. Many find a false sense of security in a religious tradition, ritual or experience. Such was the case in Ephesus. In our passage today, Paul providentially met and struck up a conversation with twelve devoutly religious men in that city who had some misunderstandings concerning their need. As Paul shared the truth of Jesus Christ, they realized their true need and received Christ. Paul continued to spread the word of the Lord Jesus with great effectiveness in spite of the opposition. In this day, we must remember that God’s Word works! A Prayer from the Depths – Talk Less, Pray More – Josiah Kagin
A Prayer from the Depths – Talk Less, Pray More – Josiah Kagin
Jonah was a God called prophet. One who God tasked with delivering truth to the wicked people of Nineveh. This was a very difficult assignment because the Ninevites were the enemies of God’s people. So rather than obeying God, Jonah ran from God. We often focus on Jonah’s disobedience at the beginning of the book and his bad attitude at the end of the book, however, tonight we will focus in the middle of the book. There we find a wonderful prayer that God heard! We should pause and consider how that God seized the attention of this wayward prophet and then mercifully heard and answered his prayer. Our God is still merciful and He still hears prayer! Christ Nourishes His Church – Acts – Josiah Kagin
Christ Nourishes His Church – Acts – Josiah Kagin
The birth and building of a church, the body of Christ in a locality, in the midst of a wicked and perverse world is nothing short of a miracle —a triumph. Humanly, this is impossible and overwhelming! However, to Christ, it is just what He does. We should remember the promise of Christ, “Upon this rock, I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.” (Matthew 16:18) In the final stretch of Paul’s second missionary tour, the triumphs of Christ are witnessed as He nourishes His church through the ministry of Paul, Aquila, Priscilla and Apollos. It is a wonderful, reassuring record of the love and care of our Savior for His body. What is more encouraging is that He has not ceased to love and care for His body, even us. He Opens Doors – Acts – Josiah Kagin
He Opens Doors – Acts – Josiah Kagin
Saul was a vehement enemy of Jesus Christ who vigorously persecuted those of “The Way.” He consented to the death of Stephen, the first martyr of the church. Jesus revealed Himself suddenly to Saul when he was on his way to arrest the Christ’s followers in Damascus. That day he believed on Christ and he was never the same! In fact, he changed his name to Paul. Jesus specifically sent him to the Gentiles as His witness. It is amazing to follow the life of Paul through the pages of Scripture. Beginning in Acts nine all the way to Acts eighteen, the triumphs of Christ are clearly seen in the life of Paul. Jesus changed him from a persecutor of the church to a preacher of Christ. Amazing! It was just thirteen years after believing on Christ that Paul boldly preached the Gospel in Corinth. It was a city known for its sinful practices, yet the open doors for the Gospel were many. Let’s learn all that we can from Paul’s life and ministry in the city of Corinth on his second missionary tour.Download Notes >Thanks for joining us for this episode and please take a moment to subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. Many boast of winning. Even now, many running for political office will boast of who they are conquering in the polls. Men will boast of what they have overcome. Trophies are given to acknowledge great victory. However, no one except for Jesus Christ can say, “I conquered death.” His amazing triumph provides us with the ability to triumph over every sin and obstacle that hinders us from fully obeying the will and Word of Christ. Our Conqueror Comes – Conquerors Through Christ – Josiah Kagin
One week before Jesus would conquer sin, death and hell through His bodily resurrection from the dead, He rode into Jerusalem on the colt of a donkey. This was the official presentation of Christ as the son of David. While Israel was longing for a conquering King to free them from the tyranny of Rome, Jesus presented Himself as one bringing peace. They did not realize that He was about to provide them eternal freedom from the tyranny of satan. Today we will consider the significance of the triumphal entry of Jesus Christ into Jerusalem and how it should impact us today. For Spiritual Transformation – Talk Less, Pray More – Josiah Kagin
Jesus had led His disciples to the spiritual understanding that He was the Christ, promised to build His church, declared His own sacrifice and invited His disciples to follow Him in sacrifice. Eight days later, Jesus took three of His disciples up into a mountain for prayer. While they were there and Jesus gave Himself to earnest prayer, Jesus was changed. He had a conversation with two notable Old Testament saints. This experience was so powerful, that one of the disciples asked if they could permanently remain there. God responded with an exhortation that we still do well to hear and practice. Conquering Is Not About Us – Conquerors Through Christ – Josiah Kagin
Gideon lived in the time period in Israel’s history of Judges. Judges were God called deliverers. When Israel would sin and worship other gods, God would all them to fall into the bondage and captivity of their enemies. As His people would humble themselves, turn from their wicked ways and seek the face of God, God would send a judge or deliverer. Gideon was the sixth Judge of Israel and would deliver them out of bondage to the Midianites. However, the victory that Gideon experienced would not be one that he could claim, all the glory belonged to God. Gideon’s life and the way that God used him reminds us that conquering is really not about us, but all about God. Before Spiritual Influence – Talk Less, Pray More – Josiah Kagin
Before Spiritual Influence – Talk Less, Pray More – Josiah Kagin
Our lives either influence others toward Christ or away from Christ. We desire to influence others toward Christ, yet too often try to do so in their own wisdom and strength. Jesus modeled ministry that flowed out of prayerfulness. Jesus told us that “…without me, ye can do nothing.” Without Him we cannot discern the spiritual needs of others nor can we meet those spiritual needs influencing them toward Christ. Let’s learn from the pattern of Christ before He helped His disciples to take another spiritual step of growth.Download Notes >Thanks for joining us for this episode and please take a moment to subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. Conquering With All We Have – Conquerors Through Christ – Josiah Kagin
Jesus is in the court of the Gentiles. He often would go there to preach and to teach. On one particular day during the passover festivities, Jesus sat down and observed those who gave freewill offerings into the trumpet shaped offering receptacles. Jerusalem was buzzing with a swelling population of worshipers, many of whom would participate in giving. However, one caught the attention and commendation of Christ. We do well to emulate her! Real Application in a Healthy Church (Part 2) – Healthy Church – Josiah Kagin
Real Application in a Healthy Church (Part 2) – Healthy Church – Josiah Kagin
Titus was told to hold fast the faithful Word. As he did, he was to deal with the rebels, restore those that were repentant and have a right perspective about those that were reprobate. However, that was not the end of the ministry of the Word for him. He was to take the Word he was holding fast and standing firm upon and connected to the living of God’s people. The Cretian believers had a problem with living out the Word of God in their daily living. Quote: He was to close the awful chasm between the lips of God’s people and their lives. —McDonald Thanks for joining us for this episode and please take a moment to subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. Seeing Afflictions as Assets – Talk Less, Pray More – Josiah Kagin
Seeing Afflictions as Assets – Talk Less, Pray More – Josiah Kagin
When trials and afflictions come into our lives, we often pray that God will remove them. Why? Because we feel that they limit us from reaching our potential. The great Apostle Paul faced this. He agonized in prayer that God would remove the affliction out of his life so that he could serve God. Through prayer, God revealed to Paul that it was the affliction that enabled God’s power to be fully manifested through his life. Through prayer, Paul went from begging God to remove the affliction to praising God for the affliction. Conquerors in God-Given Vision – Conquerors Through Christ – Josiah Kagin
God is infinite and omnipresent! He cannot put in a box and He does not exist inside a building. He is everywhere at all times. However, God chose to presence Himself among His people in a place called the Tabernacle. While Moses had spent forty days with God on Mount Sinai, along with the Ten Commandments, God had given Moses the specific vision for building a ‘dwelling place’ for the presence of God among the people of God. As soon as Moses returned from meeting with God, he delivered the vision to God’s people and gave them an opportunity to participate in it. Though they were in the midst of the wilderness with limited resources, God would provide through them more than enough to fulfill the vision. May we remember that we serve the same God.Download Notes >Thanks for joining us for this episode and please take a moment to subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. Jesus was in the midst of a very chaotic time in His ministry. As at other times, He deliberately took time to pray and gain clarity for the future. May we do the same this week. 1 Timothy 1:16 Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting. We are conquerors through Christ over every sin and obstacle that hinders us from fully obeying the Word and will of Christ. A Personal Prayer for Revival – Talk Less, Pray More – Josiah Kagin
The context of Psalm 51 is that David had committed adultery with Bathsheba and then murdered her husband, Uriah, via a military command. He tried to hide it for months, but the truth came out because of Bathsheba’s pregnancy and the confrontation by the man of God. As David response to the chastening of God, we find him returning to God and desiring with all his heart to be right with God. He sees his God as perfectly holy, yet enduringly merciful. David understands that he had sinned and was no longer looking for ways to hide it or to downplay it. He just wanted to be right…he wanted to be revived. They Said, "We Can't." – Winter Revival 2022 – Josiah Kagin
God had miraculously brought the children of Israel out of oppressive bondage in the land of Egypt by His mighty power. Ten times, God proved His all powerful authority to Pharaoh and the Egyptian nation. As God led them out through His servant Moses, He again demonstrated His mighty power by parting the Red Sea and making a way for Israel to escape the terror of the Egyptian military. God revealed His law to them at Mount Sinai all the while providing for their every need. They are now at the border Canaan, the land God had promised to Abraham about seven hundred years before. The inhabitants of the land were exceedingly wicked and had rejected the mercy of God for the past four hundred years. The time has finally come God to bring judgement upon the inhabitants as well as grant Israel the land He had promised to them. While the land had yet to be conquered, Canaan, with all of its resources, was a demonstration of God’s abundant provision and care for His people. Israel now faced a decision at Kadesh-Barnea. While the book of James encourages us to embrace these trials with joy because of the outcome—increased spiritual endurance. However, many times we struggle to view these seasons positively. Conquerors Over Financial Worry – Conquerors Through Christ – Josiah Kagin
The sermon on the Mount preached by Christ provides a constitution for the Kingdom of God. This will be experienced physically in the Millennium, but is to be experienced spiritually now in the hearts and lives of every believer. Christ teaches on the believers attitude, witness, responses, temptation, marriage and divorce, oaths, forgiveness, enemies, giving, prayer, fasting, investing eternally, worry, judging, expectant prayer, one way to heaven, false teacher and the sure foundation of Christ and His Word. Right in the middle of this message, Jesus instructs His disciples concerning finances and worry. Conquerors in Stewardship – Conquerors Through Christ – Josiah Kagin
Conquerors in Stewardship – Conquerors Through Christ – Josiah Kagin
God used the church of Philippi to meet the needs of the saints as well as the furtherance of the Gospel. In the second letter to the Corinthians, the Philippians along with the other churches in their region had given sacrificially to help the believers in Judea that we facing extreme persecution. In the epistle to the Philippians, Paul emphasizes that they had fellowship with him in the Gospel from the first day that they had received Christ. Their hearts were involved completely, and so their finances were invested generously. They gave not just once to the Gospel ministry of Paul, but gave a second time. Their first gift enabled Paul to set aside bi-vocational ministry and minister full-time in Corinth. Many times concern, worry, anxiety over finances becomes an obstacle from us fully obeying the will and Word of Christ. Let’s learn from the Philippians to be conquerors in our stewardship through Christ.Download Notes >Thanks for joining us for this episode and please take a moment to subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. Vision Night – Vision Sunday – Josiah Kagin
Vision Night – Vision Sunday – Josiah Kagin
I am excited for this new year! The Holy Spirit reminds us through the Apostle Paul in Romans 8:37 that “…we are more than conquerors through Him that loved us.” We are conquerors through Christ over any sin or obstacle that hinders us from fully obeying the Word and will of Christ in our lives. We are not laboring to become conquerors, were are laboring as conquerors. We must simply claim Christ’s victory by faith. God has impressed upon my heart several areas that we as a church family should focus on and claim Christ’s victory. As we discover these together, would you prayerfully join me in faith? More than anything, I want to be a disciple of Christ leading disciples of Christ to be conquerors through Christ. Conquerors over fear, unbelief, fruitlessness, anger, gossip, anxiety, division, prejudice, lukewarmness, the fear or man and spiritual attack. Would you take this Vision Guide and make it a prayer list for yourself and our church family. Without prayer there is no movement. Why? Because prayer is a declaration of our dependence upon Jesus, the conqueror. Over and over Jesus modeled this for us. Before any major advance in His earthly ministry He would give Himself to serious prayer. As we lean on God in prayer, I believe that we will experience being Conquerors through Christ. Our goal for 2022To radically increase our understanding and experience of conquering through Christ over sin and every obstacle that hinders us from obeying the WorDownload Notes >Thanks for joining us for this episode and please take a moment to subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. Conquerors Through Christ – Vision Sunday – Josiah Kagin
Conquerors Through Christ – Vision Sunday – Josiah Kagin
Like you, Paul struggles with his flesh daily yet has a burning desire for victory. As he realized that key to his struggle was the victory Christ already won over sin, death and hell, his heart ignited with the glorious reality that he faced no condemnation before God because he was in Christ. The indwelling Spirit of Christ empowered him to personally experience Christ’s victory over his flesh. The Spirit assured Paul of his position as a child of God and that he could go to his Father with all of his burdens, struggles and needs. The Spirit would even intercede for him when he is incapable of expressing the desire of his hearts. All of this was true because Jesus came and fully conquered sin, death and hell for him. In Christ, Paul was more than a conqueror. What Paul discovered is our reality too!It is in this context that Paul declares we know something!Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.Download Notes >Thanks for joining us for this episode and please take a moment to subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. Comfort and Joy for the Disregarded – Josiah Kagin
Comfort and Joy for the Disregarded – Josiah Kagin
The good news of Jesus Christ’s birth was not first given to the religious leaders of the day. God saw fit to announce the birth of the Messiah to humble, hard-working, receptive shepherds. Mothers in that day did not dream of their sons growing up and becoming shepherds. It was not a notable profession! However, it was to these socially disregarded individuals that God announced the good news of comfort and joy the night Jesus was born. Comfort and Joy in Uncertain Times – Josiah Kagin
When Jesus came to earth the first time, He came in the midst of uncertain times politically, financially and religiously. Yet, that night He brought true comfort and joy! The angels announced His birth as tidings that would bring great joy. These were joyful tidings because Jesus was not just another man, but the promised Savior, helper, comforter of all men. “And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. 11 For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.” (Luke 2:10-11) Let’s discover Jesus as our comfort and joy even in uncertain times. Fresh Vision – Acts – Josiah Kagin
Fresh Vision – Acts – Josiah Kagin
Paul has been working bi-vocationally in the city of Corinth. During the week he was making tents with Aquila and Priscilla and on Saturday he was striking up conversations at the synagogue concerning Jesus Christ. He was planting seeds of the Gospel. When his coworkers arrived with much needed physical, spiritual and financial help, Paul was enabled to completely focus on preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. This brought on much fear and opposition, but with fresh vision from God, Paul was encourage and embraced God’s instruction wholeheartedly. As he did, God fulfilled His revealed promise. As we study this passage, may we see how that Paul’s experience can be ours as well in our community during this season. Helpers in Christ – Acts – Josiah Kagin
Helpers in Christ – Acts – Josiah Kagin
Paul left Athens to continue his second missionary tour. He left behind several believers who turned to Christ from the rampant idolatry of Athens. He journeyed on his own some fifty miles to Corinth, the capital city of Achaia. The wickedness of Corinth cannot be overstated. Yet Paul would spend eighteen months there faithfully laboring bi-vocationally to win the Corinthians to Jesus Christ. While in Corinth, God blessed Paul with two lifetime friends, who would become helpers in Christ, as well as reuniting him with Timotheus and Silas. Sightseerer or Soulwinner – Acts – Josiah Kagin
When Paul came to Athens, there was no group of believers. There was no followers of Christ in his age group to fellowship with. There was no church assembling in a home or building in town to sing praises to Christ and grow in His grace. There was no Wednesday children’s Bible club, youth group or nursery. There was no pastor faithfully preaching the Word and caring for people. It was a dark, idolatrous city that had great influence in the Greek world. It was filled to the brim with the worship of every god but God. Paul’s actions give us a pattern for engaging a pagan society. You are Salt and Light – Josiah Kagin
You are Salt and Light – Josiah Kagin
Can you imagine how awesome it must have been to hear Jesus preach? One of His most well known sermons is called “The Sermon on the Mount.” He began it by addressing essential matters of the heart. While this sermon would serve as a type of constitution for His coming kingdom, it did explain the kind of rulership that Jesus wanted to develop in the hearts of His followers. The first twelve verses of the sermon dealt with such matters humility, purity, spiritual hunger and handling persecution. What Jesus desired to develop within the hearts of His disciples, He also expected to be demonstrated in the habits of His disciples. This was His focus as He communicated to them that they were both salt and light in the world. This message is wildly important for every follower of Christ today. What Makes Us Better – Josiah Kagin
What Makes Us Better – Josiah Kagin
King Solomon was a man who had experienced all that life had to offer. In all of his experiences, he discovered so much disappointment at the emptiness and frustration of life. As the richest, most powerful and most envied man on earth in his day, described life as completely empty and intensely frustrating. In Ecclesiastes, we find Solomon viewing his life from the vantage point of old age and mortality. As he concluded chapter six, he asked himself how man can be better amid all the emptiness of life. How can man know what is good in this life? At this point, Solomon pens sound advice for life under the sun. Ultimately he concludes with, “Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.” (Ecclesiastes 12:13) Thanks for joining us for this episode and please take a moment to subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. Preach the Word! – Endure – Josiah Kagin
Paul comes to the climax of his second letter to Timothy. Here he would challenge his young song in the faith to be fervent in His calling. Paul would begin with a reminder of the lofty position that God’s Word holds. Thanks for joining us for this episode and please take a moment to subscribe on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts. Rest with the Savior – Rest – Josiah Kagin
Rest with the Savior – Rest – Josiah Kagin
In Matthew 11, Jesus has confronted both a restless generation and their resulting great rejection. They had rejected the preaching of John the Baptist and the person of Christ the Messiah. Jesus pled with the gathered crowd to hear His message and invited them to himself with seventeen wonderful words. “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” He promised rest to all those who would come to Him, acknowledging their exhausting labor to be good enough for God and the burden of their own sinfulness. Those who would respond in faith to His invitation would receive the rest of Christ’s eternal salvation. It does not end there! Jesus goes on to describe how those who have received His salvation can experience rest with Him throughout their daily lives no matter what is happening. This He does with two commands and a promise. Continue On! – Endure – Josiah Kagin
Continue On! – Endure – Josiah Kagin
Paul wanted Timothy to continue on and endure and so he described the work of those that had a form of godliness while denying God’s power. He contrasted their work with what Timothy had personally observed in his life and ministry. Paul then encouraged Timothy not to give up for to continue in all that he had learned from both his mentors and more importantly, the Word of God. Rest in Christ's Salvation – Rest – Josiah Kagin
Rest in Christ's Salvation – Rest – Josiah Kagin
John the Baptist was in prison. He had preached and prepared the way for Jesus Christ as he had been called of God to do. When he first saw Christ, he declared publicly, "Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.” (John 1:29) However, as he sat in prison awaiting execution, he began to wonder if his preaching had been in vain. John sent two of his followers with a question for Jesus. “Art thou he that should come, or do we look for another?” Jesus graciously responded to John’s question with a message highlighting the visible proofs of His deity—His mighty works. As the followers of John returned with this message, Jesus began to preach a sermon to the Galilean crowd that had been overhearing this interaction. He challenged the crowd about the person and message of John the Baptist and why they had not accepted it. Jesus then declared a message to that audience that still rings true for us today. He began with a plea for people to have ears to hear and concludes it with an invitation that everyone should accept. Matthew 11:15 He that hath ears to hear, let him hear.
