TWGWI S2E13 - The Karate Kid (1989) S1E13 - A Little World Of His Own (Feat. Reid Messerschmidt & Otis!)

Hello, greetings, and good day. My name is Keith Gawla and welcome to That Was Great… Wasn’t It?

The podcast where each week I’ll be joined by my friends, both old and new, and who most end up questioning our friendships due to my choices in season topics, to reminisce on our youth via the nostalgic power of Saturday Morning Cartoons. We’ll be revisiting shows from the 70s, 80s, and early 90s. Some are classics, some are classics with air quotes, but all will have us pondering the same philosophical conundrum, That Was Great…. Wasn’t It?

This time around we are jumping on the Cobra Kai coattails and covering the Karate Kid cartoon. Daniel-son, Mister Miyagi and someone named Taki, who I am sure we will get a full background/origin story type episode, traverse the world trying to recapture the mysterious shrine.. Which I am sure will be less mysterious once we get a background/origin recap… probably some place at the beginning of this episode so we aren’t just wandering around in say ,,, maybe an amazon jungle, with no clue what is going on.

Episode 12 - A Little World Of His Own (watch on Tubi or Crackle )

Guest - Reid (and Otis) Messerschmidt (@exuberantpod)

TWGWI S2E1 - The Karate Kid (1989) S1E2 - My Brother's Keeper (Feat. Megan Danger of The Weird)

Episode - My Brother's Keeper (watch on Tubi or Crackle or https://youtu.be/BoldxrlokFQ )

Guest - Megan Danger (@meg_danger; @jointheweird; @funfictionshow)

Welcome to Series 1.5! Bigfoot & The Muscle Machines!

BTMM was part of Super Saturday - or Sunday depending where you lived, a half hour block of cartoons syndicated nationwide from 85-86, and featured the titular truck and it’s driver, Yank Justice, trying to stop an elderly corrupt billionaire from finding the Fountain of Youth! Holy crap!!

That Was Great… Wasn’t It Series 1.5 is sponsored by Fish In Chips.

My guest for this short run is none other than Chris Green. Chris is a podcast enthusiast, the host of This Week Today and Armchair Radio, and a glutton for punishment since he agreed to do another show with me after ProStars. Or he felt guilty for all the last minute requests to co-host on This Week Today lately. Either way, I was happy to have him along for the ride. Let’s get going shall we?

While I cleanse my palate from Season 1 and get ready for our July mini series of Bigfoot & The Muscle Machines,  I wanted to let you know about another podcast I am part of. It's called the Munster Hunters and it's where we do a similar thing to what we do here, just with a 50+ year old show about a Frankenstein's Monster and his grotesque family aka The Munsters.

In 1973, they stared in a cartoon movie called The Mini Munsters. This seemed like a no-brainer crossover episode to give you a feel for that show we do over there.

Season 1 we are breaking down ProStars. ProStars was part of NBC’s 1991 Saturday Morning lineup. It featured real and fictionalized versions of three all time greats – Michael Jordan, Bo Jackson, and Wayne Gretzky – doing their best to stop bad guys, inspire the youth, and… protect the environment? Hmmm.
