Green Socialist Workshops, Ranked Choice Voting and Proportional Representation
Plurality voting in single-member-districts has always prevented the Green Party as well as women and people of color from getting their fair and proportional share of representation. This problem has become worse in recent years because the Republicans have become not merely a conservative party but an extremist racist far-right party.   Progressive voters feel compelled more than ever to vote for centrist Democrats instead of progressive Greens in order to stop reactionary Republicans. In addition, states have been increasing ballot access requirements and suppressing voting rights. At the federal level, the proposed For the People Act (HR1/S1) proposed to increase by five times the fundraising threshold to quality for public matching funds.   This workshop will discuss remedies to these problems, including proportional representation through ranked-choice voting in multi-member districts, voting rights, fair ballot access, and public campaign funding. Green Socialist Workshops, Introducing the Green Socialist Organizing Project
There is a growing number of ecosocialists in the Green Party. Many of us believe that the next step in the evolution of our Party is a move towards becoming an ecosocialist Party. Many ecosocialists remain outside of our Party. We believe that moving towards an ecosocialist definition can bring many new people at a time our Party is under attack.    Presented at the 2021 Green Party Annual National Meeting on July 15, 2021. Green Socialist Workshops, How to Run a Reading/Discussion Group
Join us for a special episode brought to you buy the Education Working Group of the Green Socialist Organizing Project.  This episode, hosted by Green Party US Co-Chair, Garret Wasserman, and IL Green Party Co-Chair and Former Green Party US Co-Chair, AJ Reed, is the first in a series of workshops on How to Run a Reading/Discussion Group. Murray Bookchin, who founded social ecology, a theory that strongly influenced early Green Socialist thought, strongly advocated the discussion and study group as the first step of any revolutionary movement. A group of individuals meets to expand their knowledge of radical thought and form a radical intellectual community; through the give and take of discussion, can eventually form ideas for next steps in organizing and political activity. According to Bookchin, study groups help create solidarity and a shared language — with a shared coherent vision — for building a mass, organizing, political movement!   With Bookchin’s words in mind and with the Green Socialist Organizing Project’s commitment to building from the bottom-up, we do not only want to present or connect to existing Reading Groups, but seek to develop local organizers that can run their own local groups.   This first workshop will be a livestream presentation and discussion of our How to Run a Reading/Discussion Group Guide with questions taken from viewers.  There will be a follow-up ZOOM workshop on Tuesday, September 14 at 9 PM ET/6 PM PT that will allow those interested in starting a local reading group to experience an expedited sample session and have a more in-depth conversation with organizers who have ran such groups.   For more information on our How to Run a Reading/Discussion Group Workshops at https://greensocialist.net/reading-group-workshops/ To watch the workshop visit https://youtu.be/FBIBpbEspak

This week Howie responds to the reintroduction of progressive Democrats' Green New Deal Non-Binding Resolution before being joined by Ernesto Ayala from Tele-Jaguar.com for a conversation about police brutality. Ernesto Ayala was born in the San Fernando Valley, California and have resided in Pacoima my whole life. During that time I have also served on the Pacoima Neighborhood Council and have been involved in various grassroots organizing efforts in the North East San Fernando Valley.
