Breakfast Pack #72: Bad Batch S3E8 - Bad Territory

Breakfast Pack #72: Bad Batch S3E8 - Bad Territory

A Returning Star Wars insert podcast series that asks more questions than it answers. Today on Breakfast pack #72 We are asking questions on the Bad Batch season 3, episode 8: Bad Territory - That both aired on Disney plus, Wednesday March 20th.

As this is a short and travel week, my usual partner in crime and card squadron winger Gregory Cass from eyeoncanon.com and I did one show this week on the Acolyte Trailer, but scheduling dictated that I do this show earlier. So that said, another Card Squadron Winger, Batuu West 2, but better known to y’all as Colby Mead from the ColbyCast podcast -joins me at the breakfast table today.

So if you are joining us for the first time, this is an insert series podcast in the regular feed where Colby and I will trade questions to each other that we have not talked about before - which means there is a chance like fantasy draft to swipe that choice from another member of the panel, so you better have some spares, a cooky theory or a good cheat sheet. And I will remind anyone, if you haven’t seen the latest episode, this is a warning that there will be spoilers for this show. If you haven’t watched yet, we all invite you to please come back and listen after you’ve watched.

Mark Newbold of Fantha Tracks returns for his fifth time on the show as the Rebel Base Card itself passes the 5 year mark (no pun intended). With co-host Mark Mulcaster, Making Tracks is one of the many fine Fantha Tracks podcasts which should be a staple in your weekly playlists. Mark returns to the show to talk about his recent trip to Finse, Norway for the 45th Anniversary of the filming of the Hoth scenes of the Empire Strikes Back, Phantom Menace at 25, Bad Batch, Acolyte and more. Ep. 153: Unorganized Chaos

Ep. 153: Unorganized Chaos

Recorded from the organized chaos that is Tampa International Airport. Has your collection to-do pile outgrown you? Do you have so much now that you’ve forgotten even now what you have? Do you projects or organizing you’ve been putting off getting to? Then you too may suffer from Unorganized Chaos. As I was waiting inside the terminal to pick up some family I found an opportunity to talk about some recent organizing that I was able to do start getting that pile under some control. It’s a short and sweet episode with hopefully some good talk about your collection and mine. Hope you enjoy. Ep. 150: S.T.E.A.M. into Star Wars Live Show

Ep. 150: S.T.E.A.M. into Star Wars Live Show

Episode 150 is the show recorded live at S.T.E.A.M. into STAR WARS event, Saturday, January 20th at Washington Community High School. S.T.E.A.M. into Star Wars Day celebrates Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math, wrapped in a Star Wars theme hosted by the High school and organized by Tom Gross (Teachers in the Dungeon and CWK Pour over podcaster) and his army of student volunteers. Local artists, authors, podcasters as well as members of the 501st Midwest Garrison were part of this event which included games, demonstrations, activities and a full slate off podcasts and panels throughout. The event host was Dan Zehr of Coffee with Kenobi, who with Tom are part of the WCHS staff. My show was the first podcast to start the day and I was able to bring on a handful of guests including Topps and Comic artist Camron Johnson, a WCHS alum, who talked about some of his new work and the busy schedule he has this year promoting his work. http://www.camronjohnson.com Jason Johnston from PeoriaCon was on hand to talk about the upcoming event in March and what it takes to put on an event. https://www.peoriacon.com Crista from Tailored Geek was a returning guest and vendor and talked about what costuming she brought with her to display and what it takes to put that together. https://tailoredgeek.com Mike Sommer from the Wax Pack Hero Podcast lives not too far and came up with some of his family. He talked about some of the things he liked about S.T.E.A.M. and some of his plans for 2024. https://waxpackhero.com Ross Hollebon came on briefly and gave a preview of his special show for S.T.E.A.M. into STAR WARS. We also talked with 8 year old Otto who was a raffle ticket winner and rounded out the show visiting with Dan Zehr. There were some audio difficulties with the second mic setup this year, but you should be able to hear the guests alright. Another goal for 2024 is working on new remote gear! My thanks to Tom, Dan, and all the folks at WCHS for inviting me down to the event again. It was a blast getting to hang with everyone and helping put on a great show! Breakfast Pack Hot Stove #65: Looking back at Ahsoka on Disney+

A Star Wars insert podcast series that asks more questions than it answers - this time between Star Wars shows. Today on Hot Stove Breakfast pack #65 - We are asking questions on the Ahsoka Series as a whole. Much like holiday leftovers we have had our fill of Ahsoka and are going back for seconds. I am curious now that we’ve had some time from it, if there are lingering questions, comments and thoughts not only on the season or a particular show or piece and thoughts going forward, given the end of the strike and what’s to come from Filoni and the months and years ahead. Joining me for this Disney+ Star Wars offseason chat is once again my co-host and card squadron winger Gregory Cass from eyeoncanon.com. Ep. 145: Disney100: The Exhibition Chicago

Ep. 145: Disney100: The Exhibition Chicago

2023 marks the 100th Anniversary of the Walt Disney Company, and part of that celebration is a touring exhibit that displays many items from the archives that made its way to Chicago this month. It's housed at the 35,000 square foot Exhibition Hub Art Center that will open to the public on Saturday, November 18th - also a special date as it marks the first appearance of Mickey Mouse in Steamboat Willie, back in 1928. Disney100 web: https://disney100exhibit.com From Disney's site. "Disney100: The Exhibition invites guests to step into ten magnificent and imaginatively themed galleries, where moving stories, unique interactive installations, and behind-the-scenes glimpses will take them on a journey through 100 years of The Walt Disney Company. There are ten large and imaginatively themed galleries with renowned classics from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (1937) to Encanto (2021), including the latest members of the Disney family – Pixar, Star Wars, MARVEL, and National Geographic. Celebrate the magic of Disney with timeless stories and memories through the visual, audio, and interactive elements of Disney100: The Exhibition."   Thursday November 16th was media day and I was lucky enough to tag along with Dan Zehr from Coffee with Kenobi as he toured the exhibit and interviewed folks from Disney, as well as actress and Disney legend Jodi Benson, the voice of Ariel from The Litte Mermaid.   In this episode you will here from Dan and get his impressions of the exhibit, along with Kevin Kern, Disney Regional Archives Manager who was nice enough to answer a few questions from me as well. You'll also hear opening remarks from a few people from Disney and the city who spoke with the press before the ribbon cutting ceremony commenced.   I hope you enjoy this special episode of the podcast, and make sure you check out Coffee with Kenobi for more from the Disney100 Chicago Exhibit. Ep. 143: The 2023 National

The 2023 National Sports Collectors Convention could go down as one of the largest ever for the 43 year old event, if not largest in some time. Taking nearly all the bottom floor of the Donald E. Stephen’s Convention Center in Rosemont Illinois, this 5 day event is drawing large crowds from all over. All kinds of cards and collectibles were up for sale or purchase. Card shops, card manufacturers, breakers, graders, sports figures, and content creators kept the mood as high as the temperature was getting on the show floors. Although a shorter stay than I originally planned, I was able to talk with Mike Sommer of the Wax Pack Hero podcast as well as Andy Broome of CGC cards, Sal Barry of the PuckJunk.com and Topps artist Josh Trout. By no means an extensive dive into all of what this show had to offer, I hope it gives you an idea of the size and scope and maybe entice you to see the show next year. His goal is to modernize the pastime of trading sports cards through engaging, 24/7, online live-shop experiences, as well as on-demand card revealing, giveaways, educational content, live events and more. Dappz Sports has amassed a global community of engaging fans who don’t just sit on the sidelines. Dappz Sports gives them a platform to interact with their favorite athletes, brands, and creators with a very low entry point so people of all ages and backgrounds can join in. Since 2019, he’s grown the brand from beyond his bedroom to a multi-stream- studio in the heart of the entertainment capital of the world. Sports and non-sports, they’re aim to connect everyone who shares the passion as much as they do and enjoys the thrill of the chase. This year welcomes back the 43rd National Sports Collectors Convention, or the National as it is better known, to Chicago from July 26th and runs through the 30th. No stranger to the show, Dappz and Dappz Sports will have a booth and be bringing the crew to entertain, engage and like everyone else, enjoy what the show has to offer. Dappz also wanted to talk about a recent collaboration with Dave and Adams to put up a 15 thousand dollar bounty on a one of one Diego Luna special auto. Always up to learn more about the hobby, I couldn’t say no to the opportunity to get to talk with him about what he does and this card bounty. And since I was planning on attending the national myself, seemed like the stars were just aligning right for us to sit down across the zoom and talk a little cards. I hope you enjoy this episode. As we are getting close to the big show, I will forgo Homestead keeping this time around, but promise I have plenty of goodness and news collected over the summer and more coming down the road on the 40th anniversary of Return of the Jedi. Ep. 139: Robert Jiménez

Ep. 139: Robert Jiménez

Tonight we have another artist spotlight. Robert Jimé on the show. He is a fantastic artist who has another set of pulp cover cards coming out in Star Wars Card Trader, and that is among the many other projects he is working on is . If you are on the socials you can find him and his work under the Zerostreet handle or if you go to zerostreet.shop online you can see a lot of his distinctive work. Considering that we are not too far from the release of Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny, his work on the pulp covers and his style fits in perfectly to the aesthetic. From His Bio: “Robert’s imagination and desire to draw were first fueled by his frequent visits to the corner newsstand in his Brooklyn neighborhood to purchase comic books, especially those that featured the art of Neal Adams, George Perez, and Jim Aparo. Later, the films seen on local TV, everything from the comedies of Abbott & Costello and The Marx Brothers, B Monster movies, and especially the Planet of the Apes series, left a definite imprint in his work. Incorporating an ever-growing cast of Apes, Tikis, and appearances from the likes of Doc Savage, Tarzan, The Shadow, and more, he is creating a unique narrative through his paintings and sculptures. Robert’s work has appeared on album covers for Gold Dust Lounge and Stolen Idols and in magazines such as Exotica Moderne, Tiki Magazine, PKD Otaku, Gnarly and Pinstriping & Kustom Graphics. His work is also featured in the books, THE THING:ARTBOOK, VISIONS FROM THE UPSIDE DOWN: STRANGER THINGS ARTBOOK, GHOSTBUSTERS: ARTBOOK and has shown in galleries including Disneyland’s Wonderground, Harold Golen, M Modern, Creature Features, and Bear & Bird among others. You can also see Robert’s work in trading card sets for licenses such as Garbage Pail Kids, Wacky Packages, Mars Attacks, Star Wars, DC Comics, Firefly, Ghostbusters, Adventure Time and more. Most notably Robert has recently illustrated cards for the Star Wars Trading Card App.” Speaking of Indy, I had a blast talking with Dan Zehr on Coffee with Kenobi about the Last Crusade as part of his series on the films leading up to the premiere. It was fun talking with him and Dennis Keithly from Podcast Stardust on that show. Ep. 138: ICCC Nashville 2023

Ep. 138: ICCC Nashville 2023

The ICCC or Imperial Commissary Collectors Convention is a sci-fi and pop culture convention that brings a lot of great convention aspects in a package that’s easy on the budget. Moved out of Nashville where they were busting at the seems, they landed at the Farm Bureau Expo Center just east of the airport in the city of Lebanon which is now where you find the Tennessee State Fair. The Expo center, formerly the Wilson County Expo, is a 275 acre complex that allowed this hotel bound convention room to grow, having a large center complex for vendors, artists, droid and prop builders as well as large convention set pieces, separate areas for large celeb auto and picture seekers, plus whole buildings devoted to panels, podcasts, covered areas for live bands, lots of food trucks and well there was a demolition derby and helicopter rides. I don’t think you would have seen anything like this at celebration. I was able to get a press badge from ICCC which gave me some access to the Friday VIP day and was able to talk to a lot more people, over the three days, May 26th to the 28th. If you are familiar with the podcast, you know then that these types of shows feature guests in small interview portions, since people got stuff to do. I couldn’t talk to everyone, and it seemed like I was gonna try, but I hope with this you get a flavor of the event In this jam packed show, you will here from the following: Tim Heble from Droid Builders Dapho from Derby City Veteran Garage Props (Don West Ep. 11) Bryan Ramsdell from the Kentucky Star Wars Collectors Club & Star Wars Collector Podcast Topps Artist Kevin Cleveland (Episode 19) Topps Artist Andrew Perkins Topps Artist Cory Payne Michael Havens of the Imperial Commissary Cory Wesley and Noah Clubb (CWK Pour Over and Co-creator of Coffee with Kenobi) Mark and Jennifer Truax - Patch collectors and Florida Garrison Brent Thomson from the Nashville Wampas club hockey team Alex Salazar - Figure photographer Dan and Wendy Adam -Author and Etsy creator Adam Gage - The Hyperspace Heroes Podcast Todd and Logan Couch - Mando cosplayers Marc Draven - Ink Fusion Empire Homestead Keeping: Card News: 2023 Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi https://www.cardboardconnection.com/topps-star-wars-obi-wan-kenobi-trading-cards Follow the Rebel Base Card Podcast on Instagram, Twitter, Hive, & Facebook @rebelbasecard Email: greg@rebelbasecard.com

Ep. 137: Homestead Keeping

For May the 4th it’s Homestead keeping, a regular segment within most of the base shows, but since there was a bunch of little bits I’ve recorded over the past few weeks, as Mandalorian came to a close, it made since to coming them into one show, as we get closer to the Galaxy Anniversary show, which wouldn’t have much more room, as it will be crammed with awesome interviews from a good group of folks. I got to catch up with Franc and Amy Mulder as well as finally meeting one of the members of Card Squadron, David Nicely, who was on the program, waaaayyy back in episode 59. They had a nice display with some droids from the local Droidbuilder chapter. Kara DJ stops by for a minute on the program. The driving force behind the ‘Into a Larger World’ Fanzine. Kara was on the program in episode 103. She gives a nice overview of her time in London at Celebration Europe and a little news on the next issues of the zine, due out later this year. Sam Tashima, our roving Star Wars CCG player and reporter also drops by to give us an overview of the 2023 Nationals held in Minnesota not long ago, and some dates for the upcoming tourneys for the classic Decipher card game, that is driven by the Players committee. Finally, since we are celebrating the 40th Anniversary of Return of the Jedi later this month, the film was re-released back in a selection of theaters. Many of you in the community did have a chance to see it and was lucky enough to find some time myself. Romeo Ortiz, from the Vintage Star Wars club has been doing some cool video interviews for his instagram channel and while we were doing another segment, I rolled tape on our conversation of seeing the film back on the big screen.

Breakfast Pack #56: The Return - A Mandalorian episode discussion

A Returning Star Wars insert podcast series that asks more questions than it answers. Today on Breakfast pack #56 - We are asking questions on the Mandalorian Season 3 finale called: The Return- which premiered on Disney+ on Wednesday April 19th. With me for breakfast and back from the outer furnace rim is my co-host and card squadron winger Greg Cass from @eyeoncanon on Instagram and eyeoncanon.com. We’ve been fortunate once clear of the doubling of Bad Batch and Mando to have some great guests join us at the table, and for the season finale we are blessed once again to have another. Co-creator of Coffee with Kenobi and friend of the show Cory Clubb is here. This is an insert series podcast in the regular feed where Cory, Greg and I will trade questions to each other that we have not talked about before. Since we are talking about a current series of Star Wars, if you haven’t seen the episode in question, this is a warning that there will be spoilers for this show. If you haven’t watched yet, we all invite you to please come back and listen after you’ve watched. Ep. 136: Celebration 2023 wrap

In this Rebel Base Card special episode, Celebration veterans Mary Perdue, Jen Sopchockchai, Greg Cass and Ross Hollebon join me to go over highlights and thoughts of this year’s Star Wars Celebration, which was held in London at the Excel Centre April 7-10. They talk about their impressions of the live feeds that kept the Star Wars community not there in person glued to their screens wondering what would happen next. We get a nice overview of which panels, guests and sneak previews resonated and what’s maybe to come for Japan 2025 and beyond. It’s a fun conversation and it was great to get together with everyone, even if only on Zoom instead of in person. Ep. 134: Teachers in the Dungeon at Gary Con XV

Kicking off a short vacation, I meet up with Tom Gross and Dan Reem from Teachers in the Dungeon at Gary Con XV. Recorded onsite at the Grand Geneva Resort in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, GaryCon celebrates all things Dungeons & Dragons at the birthplace of the game and TSR Hobbies. Tom Gross, Coffee with Kenobi newsman along with fellow educator Dan Reem started the podcast Teachers in the Dungeon, in order to share a passion for the roll playing game and their adventures with lessons on both victory and defeat. This year TIHD returned to not only participate, but to host a session on running a D&D group for kids, but running a camp for them during summer break. While walking the show floor, I landed at the booth Smugglers Coffee and talked with Dave and Jim who were running the booth. https://garycon.com Find Tom and Dan from Teachers in the Dungeon online: Twitter @DungeonTeachers Instagram:  TeachersInTheDungeon Gmail: teachersinthedungeon@gmail.com Website:  www.teachersinthedungeon.weebly.com "Grab some dice and grab some fun and join the teachers in the dungeon!" Ep. 133: Fun at the Chicago Sports Spectacular

Ep. 133: Fun at the Chicago Sports Spectacular

A short & sweet episode with audio from a large local card and auto show here in the Chicagoland area. It’s a nice prep for C2 and it’s always fun to find non-sports goodness in a sports show. The Chicago Sports Spectacular is a show that takes place 2-3 times a year at the Donald E. Stephans Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois. It typically features many sports and entertainment autograph opportunities plus fields a health vendor area for card and sports collectible seekers, plus of late, more places to submit cards and autos for authentication and grading. https://chicagosportsspectacular.com From the site: “The Chicago Sports Spectacular is a 350+ vendor table show selling sports and non-sports memorabilia & collectibles.  We feature sports athletes, Hollywood stars and other interesting TV personalities who sign autographs and participate in photo opportunities (photo ops). Don't miss our shows every Nov. and March, and occasionally a smaller summer show.” I ran into my collector friend Karl Schmidt, aka @pilo64 who was waiting on the opportunity to have Hall of Famer Bobby Orr autograph a puck he had. Orr, better known for his days with the Boston Bruins, had played for a time with the Chicago Blackhawks I also found a vendor, Gary Bergquist, who had a very nice table of Non-sport cards and boxes, probably one of the better non-sport offerings at sports card show. Him and his wife were kind enough to talk for a few minutes on a very hectic Saturday afternoon. Inquires for Gary: BergquistGaryD@gmail.com Although pretty busy at his booth, Topps artist Josh Trout showed me a few of the items he had brought with him from his home in Omaha. Although he does mainly sports sketches for Topps, he did get in a handful of Sketchcards for the Masterwork 2022 Set for Star Wars.. On Instagram @jtroutpaintings Homestead keeping: Small for this mini episode, but the checklist card for the Swag Pack series 4 did arrive, which means it’s time to wrap packs for upcoming cons! Check the con schedule below for more information. C2 is coming up on the 29th! Another great double feature on the Breakfast Pack with my friend and co-host, Gregory Cass from eyeoncanon.com - Last week we again tackled both Batch and Mando in a supersized show, as ‘The Convert,’ episode 3 from the new season of The Mandalorian was itself an hour long this week. We led off with a great discussion of ‘Pabu,’ which was the 13th episode of Season 2 of The Bad Batch. Only 3 more installments of the Batch before the end of the month. The last two will be aired the same evening. Ep. 131: The Winds that Shook the Stars - with John and Mary Jo Tenuto

Ep. 131: The Winds that Shook the Stars - with John and Mary Jo Tenuto

On this special episode I spend some time with a couple who has a new book coming out this summer on the Star Wars radio dramas that were on NPR back in the 80’s and 90’s. The book is titled ‘The Winds that Shook the Stars,’ and both authors, John & Mary Jo Tetuno talk about a little about how these came to be and how the book came together. From the description: ‘A comprehensive history of the Star Wars audio dramas. An expanded radio dramatization of the original Star Wars trilogy, produced in 1981, 1983, and 1996 respectively, produced and broadcast by National Public Radio as part of NPR Playhouse. These radio serials were made with the full co-operation of George Lucas, who for one dollar each sold the rights to KUSC-FM, the public radio affiliate at his alma mater, the University of Southern California. Lucas also allowed the use of original sound effects and music from the films. A Wind To Shake The Stars explores the creative origins, production and legacy of this oft-forgotten chapter of Star Wars history.’ Available for pre-order now. Ep. 130: Mark Newbold talks CELEBRATION EUROPE 2023

Ep. 130: Mark Newbold talks CELEBRATION EUROPE 2023

It’s that time of the year again. Every year I’ve done the show I’ve been able to sneak into the schedule of the busiest person in the Star Wars galaxy and one of my favorite people in fandom, Mark Newbold of Fantha tracks. He returns to the show to talk about the upcoming CELEBRATION EUROPE and give you some nice insight. I was also curious what he thought of the recent climate of the franchise and what we could be looking to expect to come from the ExCel London.
If you’re familiar with Mark, then you know this is a conversation you don’t want to miss.

Mark’s been writing since the early 80's and has contributed for various publications about Star Wars and Star Trek since the mid 90's. You have seen his work in Star Wars Insider Magazine since '06, and after years with the online site Jedi News, he helped create Fantha Tracks in 2017, which to this very day/minute and second, covers all aspects of the Star Wars universe.

With co-host Mark Mulcaster, Making Tracks is one of the many fine Fantha Tracks podcasts which should be a staple in your weekly playlists and is no stranger to a CELEBRATION Podcast stage.
