L2L 2: Christine Garnett - Harrison County Schools

In this episode, Christine Garnett (B.A. '04, M.A. '08, '20) reflects on how her experience as a student-athlete at Georgetown College helped shape her success as a classroom teacher, high school coach and new school administrator in the Harrison County School District. A 2000 Harrison County graduate, Garnett played four years for the Lady Tigers softball team while earning a Math degree in 2004 that paved the way for a return to her home district where she's currently in her 17th year as a Math and Computer Science Teacher while also serving as a Digital Learning Coach. After completing the Instructional Leadership Program in 2020, Garnett was recently named Assistant Principal at Harrison County High School and will begin her new role in January of 2022. You can learn more about the Harrison County School District HERE.

Listen on WRVG

WRVG is the student run radio station on Georgetown College’s campus dating back to 1958! During that time, the station used the call letters WGTC and the studio was located on the first floor of Giddings Hall. Later the station was relocated to the attic of Giddings. When the school applied for the license for the new FM station, they wanted to keep the WGTC call letters; but they were already in use by a commercial station. So instead, they chose the call letters WRVG, for the Radio Voice of Georgetown.

WRVG came from humble beginnings as the weak 40 watt station was located in the Religious Education building where the current Ensor Learning Resource Center now stands. The faint signal did not discourage devoted broadcasting students and many of them would stay in the radio station all day. The students wished for a more powerful station that would allow more opportunities for Georgetown College and its students in the broadcasting world. WRVG now resides in the basement of the Cralle Student Center. Listeners can tune in to 93.7 or stream the station online to hear current DJs playing a wide variety of music, interviewing guests from around campus and the community, as well as talking about topics relevant to college life!
