Now, I know what you're thinking: what do I do with my life now that Groovy Lil Spookshow has ended (and so abruptly at that)?
We came into this project as two dudes, one from the mythical land of New Jersey, the other from the greatest city in the world, Chicago, knowing nothing about each other except that we wanted to be opinionated assholes and talk horror. We succeeded. Better, we became close friends in the process. But over the year that we have worked alongside each other on this show we've had to balance our own lives in the background. What they don't tell you about podcasting is that it can become a full-time gig very quickly.
We made the mutual decision earlier this week to let GLS go out gracefully, so our final gift to you all is our interview with Pentagram frontman Bobby Liebling, pulled straight from the Patreon vault. We were proud of every episode we did, but this was an experience that could never have happened without this show and a massive pair to ask the man directly himself to let us speak with him.

We kick off the month of April Appetites with a stint at blood school, stinky little pinkies, sexy invalid dancing, and half-assed snarling with Morbius, a film that is quite possibly worse than Verotika. Honestly, Morbius may have an appetite for blood but we should have shoehorned this in under coprophilia, because it is straight crap.

We end this month of folkloric fornicating by looking into S. Craig Zahler's world of cowboys versus cannibals with Bone Tomahawk. Modern mythmaking meets that peculiar human fascination with the worst, most primal and violent of our species with our half-century mark episode that delves into the Wild West, Zahler VS Tarantino, and a conversation about depictions of indigenous peoples in horror.

E:049 - The Lair of the White Worm
Our penultimate episode for Mythology March takes us into an exploration of the Lampton Worm of NE England, the source myth for this week's film - Ken Russell's 1988 Lair of the White Worm, a semi-psychedelic romp with none other than Hugh Grant.
We also talk the virtues of painting a hotel bathroom in vomit, review the actual source material of both the myth and Bram Stoker novelization, and question just why Scott picks films he doesn't particularly enjoy.

In honor of this pointless holiday, we attempted to bring you an episode that was, to say the least, on the nose. But Leprechaun sucks and no one cares about Scott's notes about diminutive fae from the Emerald Isle, so he drank Jameson and Old Style as he watched the show derail into a ditch and killing everyone on board. We may be a day late with this week's episode because Jenna hexed the internet after we told her magic isn't real, but were here now with another folkloric film frolic for the month of March with Robert Egger's 2015 debut with The VVitch.
An exploration into Puritans, Plymouth Colony, and their wacky, murderous laws await thee as we break down the historic minutiae of witchcraft to better understand this film. Additionally, Steve presents hilarious African football team names, Scott explains flying ointment, and Jenna begrudgingly celebrates International Women's Day alongside the lads.

Tussling with Tusselads? Raging against Raglefants? Dovregrubbens got ya down? Then Trollhunter may provide the tactics you need to acquire victory against these ancient foes. We kick off a Mythological March with the this Norwegian mockumentary that has us going way too in depth about the origins of trolls.

We usher out Lupercalia with a final film for for the degeneracy and hedonism of the holiday with Bloodsucking Freaks. Send your thoughts and prayers to Jenna - she did not have a good time. Neither did Steve. Scott, however, is opening his own Grand-Guignol in Chicago now.

Our 3rd film for the month of Lupercalia is Park Chan-wook's Thirst. A Catholic priest finds himself infected with a mysterious virus leaving him with the urge to suck, suck, suck... blood! We went without show notes for this episode, a mistake we are never going to make again.

E:042 - Vamp
We kick off our inaugural celebration of Lupercalia and the blood, breasts, and beasts that accompany it with our 1st of 4 films this month - Vamp, starring the immortal Grace Jones. Because surrealist vampire strippers are every college kids' wet dream.
Steve provides his philosophical insights regarding the Rogan debacle, we learn a little bit about Lupercalia, and learn entirely too much about Scott's pendulous scrote. Oh, and Jenna's back!
E:041 - The New York Ripper
We close out Giallo-ary with the piece de resistance that critics for the last 40-years have argued is a piece de shit: The New York Ripper.
We examine misogyny, violence, Mr. Lucio Fulci, and end on a remarkably philosophical discussion on just why we do this show. Enjoy!

E:040 - Short Night of Glass Dolls
Our 2nd film of Giallo-ary takes us to communist Prague, Czechoslovakia where we join Jean Sorel as he tries to figure out who killed him as his conscious mind is still alive in his very dead body. Importantly, we learn from some neat-o socialites the ins-and-outs of Moloch worship in this week's episode.
E:039 - Suspiria (1977)
Steve got the Covids from being too EVIL (again), which means the first film of Giallo-ary on GLS is a domestic affair between Da Ghouldaddy and Vintage Wxtch. Join us this week as we learn the basics of Greek witchcraft in Germany via the power of interpretative dance with Dario Argento's classic: SUSPIRIA!

We're back for the new year to talk about the old year with our first Year in Review episode. We do a Q&A to answer some fan mail we've received over the last few weeks, followed by a lightning round of re-reviews of every film we covered in 2021. A Christmas comedy from John Hughes that is beloved by audiences young and old, or an expose into the deranged mind of a young man turned sociopathic curator of a suburban house of horrors?
This week, we take a relaxed exploration into Home Alone for the holi-daze and ruin a Christmas classic in the process. Merry Chrimbus, piggies!
E:036 - Oldboy
Our film this week is not necessarily horror but it was chosen by Jenna herself - Park Chan-wook's Oldboy, a South Korean neo-noir fthriller that tells a duo-sided tale of vengeance 15-years in the making. It also happens to be one of Da Ghouldaddy's Top 5 movies of all time. Unfortunately, Jenna's selection was one that is not available to stream anywhere, meaning not only did we go Steve-less this week but you may be hard pressed to decide if you want to hear the ins-and-outs of an 18-year old film. Godspeed! You groovy lil listeners.
E:035 - Poltergeist
Jenna joins again as the 3rd mic this week, so naturally we decided to test her knowledge of the films of 1982 and all learn together an important life lesson: all subdivisions are inherently evil and deeply haunted places that no one should willing inhabit. To drive that point home this week we're covering Poltergeist, a movie that has been talked about to death (in some cases, literally), so we're keeping it light this week.

As one of the most anticipated horror films of the summer of 2021 - having Jordan Peele attached to your film will do that - we couldn't stop ourselves from sinking our hooks into the Nia DaCosta's direct sequel to the 1992 classic that had us mucking about with mirrors as kids. We liked this one, but yeah, we had some issues with it, namely... a Chicago horror film without a single shot of an Italian beef or bottle of Malort?! The hell is up with that?!

Led by certified 5-star babe Barbara Crampton, We Are Still Here draws influences from Italian horror and attempts to play with its hallmarks while creating something new and interesting. At least, that's what Steve will want you to believe. The Ghouldaddy was not a fan of this one and let his thoughts be known throughout the episode.

Exploitation and grindhouse are synonymous with each other and have been practically since the birth of filmmaking, but what the fuck are they exactly? This week, we take a *brief* look into the history of both, starting with the scandals of early Hollywood that led to the Don'ts and Be Carefuls of the 1920s through the heyday of exploitation in the 1970s. We also look at the ridiculous naming conventions of the various -sploitation subgenres and argue what is and isn't part of this overused moniker.

E:018 - The Baby
As we wait with bated breath for Glenn Danzig's acceptance of Steve's challenge to battle to the death at the Cheesequake Rest Stop (now the Jon Bon Jovi Rest Stop; Google it, Glenn), we decided we should probably talk about 1973's The Baby in the meantime, mostly because the titular character, Baby, and Danzig are about the same height.
The Baby is a strange, illogical fever dream of shocksploitation that is more digestible than other films in the subgenre and a worthy exploration for newcomers to exploitation as a whole. Shockingly enough, the production of this film was damn near ordinary but the story is everything but that.

Glenn Danzig premiered Verotika, his adult actress led turd burger of a horror anthology at the 2019 Cinepocalypse film festival in Chicago to hysterical, gut-wrenching laughter. He was less than pleased.

Verotika's got it all: Parisian hookers with eyes for nipples, a man-spider... man, a killer stripper with an obsession for faces, and a 30-minute segment of "Elizabeth Bathory" bathing in blood. This abomination of putrescent film has something for everyone with no self-respect!

This week, we take a quick exploration into Rob Zombie's 2003 directorial film debut - House of 1000 Corpses. Are the classic influences too heavy handed in this one, or is the original take and character acceptable by today's standards? It is hard to say, but those arguments (and more) have followed HO1KC since its release, making it one of the more controversial of the modern cult classics. We share our opinions on this and some of the other films in Zombie's filmography, as well.

In running with our continued discussion of censorship and the slasher subgenre, we continue on this week with an exploration of the components that make a slasher, well, a slasher: the killer, the locale, the weapon(s), their victims (and the final girl), and the shock effects.
Additionally, we take into account the discussions around sexuality and gender in the genre as we explore it in detail. Yeah-yeah-yeah, two schmucks talking gender, whatever, I know. I promise we have no *hot* takes, and yeah, we're pretty P R O G R E S S I V E for even doing this.

E:012 - Video Nasties & Censor
With the proliferation of VHS players and recorders in England in the 1980s, horror flourished among longtime fans and new ones alike. With it, however, came along censorship which took a major leap in the 1980s under Margaret Thatcher and her conservative government, leading to activists pressuring MPs into passing laws that led to the crackdown of 72 horror and exploitation films - the original VIDEO NASTIES.
This week, we examine the politics of this period in England, talk the power of control censorship gives to those in charge, and look at the ridiculousness of banning these 72 films altogether. Afterwards, we review Censor, the debut film by Welsh writer and director Prano Bailey-Bond set during the same period.
