Amorist | S02E08

Amorist | S02E08

On the final episode of Season 2 Groupie Collective chat to Amorist, a Western-Sydney based artist that infuses modern pop sensibilities with an 80s neon glow. Independently releasing his debut album in February 2021, ‘LETYOUREYESSADJUSTTOTHEDARK’ is a succinct but layered album that touches on themes of love and heartbreak, soundtracked by autotune and lush melodies.

Amorist speaks to Groupie Collective about his wide-ranging influences from the harsh tones of Hyperpop to UK songstress Jessie to chart-topping pop stalwarts Dua Lipa and The Weeknd, the inspiration behind his album ‘LETYOUREYESADJUSTTOTHEDARK’ and some surprisingly new territory that he would like to cover in future projects.

Gemma Navarrete | S02E07

Gemma Navarrete | S02E07

Gemma Navarrete is a Western Sydney-based musician who creates RnB/pop-infused music with concise poetic lyrics that depicts the clunky transition from adolescent to adult. Beginning her music journey at 10 years old, Gemma was adamant that music was her calling card after no other hobby fulfilled her as much as singing and signwriting did. Drawing from influences such as Ariana Grande, Snoh Alegra and UMI, the songstress creates a refreshingly new sound which holds a sense of nostalgia and adolescence. Debuting with her single “Older”, the songstress intends to continue to release music which speaks to the optimist in all of us. Gemma joins Groupie Collective and discusses her influences, experiences with growing up and how that parallels with her song writing and what the future has in store.

Douglas Street | S02E06

Douglas Street | S02E06

Born out of a love of dance music, a group of housemates adapted to the grim situation that 2020 presented and created an outlet where people could party from the safety of their homes, turning many living rooms into temporary dance floors every Friday night. Douglas Street’s live streams quickly became known for their eclectic track selection and curated line-ups providing opportunities to local DJs to showcase their talents while clubs remain dormant during 2020.

Learn about how each person brought their skills, flavour and love to the project that has become a much-loved member of the Sydney music community.

Listen to Douglas Street’s Buy Music Club playlist that features tracks across the electronic music spectrum, expect micro grooves, low key dance floor fillers, ambient works, hypnotic acid, four to the floor house and most surprisingly an appearance from all-American country artist Tony Justice?!
