Ep. 35. Tips for Planning a New Month and Spending Less Time Planning and More Time Executing

This week's episode was taken from an Instagram Live I did a few months back, but thought would be beneficial to share on the podcast as we wind down the year and start thinking about plans for 2023! Tune in to listen to how I go about blocking out my month so that I have space for work, play, self-care and growth.

Throughout the episode, I share ways to plan around travel, creating content around my menstrual cycle, my FT job and based on my energy levels and upcoming holidays and trends to optimize my partnerships and connection with my community. I offer some insight on how I set boundaries with my FT job and prioritize self-care and my mental health.

So while I do mention starting quarter 4, keep this in mind as we transition fresh into quarter 1. It’s definitely not too late to share holiday content and start creating an impression with your community and your dream brands but also by recognizing that your best looks different from day to day and releasing some of the shame around productivity.

If you know you’re ready to get help with your time management to attain good work/life balance and showing up confidently in your community, I invite you to  apply for my 1:1 confidence coaching program by scheduling a clarity call with me here: https://calendly.com/itzycanales/claritycall

Ep. 34. Setting Boundaries with Family During the Holidays

Ep. 34. Setting Boundaries with Family During the Holidays

Boundaries is something that we tend to associate with selfishness because if you’re like me, you weren’t given the opportunity to set boundaries and when you start to do so, people may react out of the ordinary. Usually, our triggers are an invitation into getting to know ourselves on a deeper level and setting boundaries can bring up discomfort, guilt and fear and not setting boundaries can leave us feeling resentful, insecure and misunderstood. Both are uncomfortable but setting boundaries is an act of self-love and an act of love to others. It builds confidence and creates healthier relationships. No one gains anything from neglecting our own personal needs. Which first requires us to feel like we deserve time, space and respect.

You are not mean for setting boundaries, for holding people accountable and for speaking up. It’s okay to be protective of the life and joy you’ve built and the work you've done and it’s totally normal to feel discomfort when advocating for yourself. So please be kind to yourself when you find yourself in unfamiliar or uncomfortable situations. You are on your own side 🤍

If the holidays feel hard for you, know that you’re not alone. It’s okay to have conflicting feelings around this time of year. They all can co-exist. Sending you so much love.

Ep 31. How the Feeling of not Belonging can be Expansive for Women of Color with Mariela De La Mora

Today’s guest is my business coach, Mariela De La Mora!! I’ve been working with her since February and her story and I can attest to the work that she does and how transformational it is.

Mariela is a business and leadership coach who helps women of color and daughters of immigrants become in-demand thought leaders. She is also a leadership mentor to 7 and 8 figure CEOs and even leaders in the United Nations.

By focusing specifically on the mindset challenges women of color experience, her clients reclaim their voices, make more confident decisions, and create brands that are truly unlike any in their market.

Before becoming a coach, she spent 16 years in marketing leading international teams. As the eldest daughter of Mexican immigrants, she was often the only WOC in senior leadership and had to break past systemic and mindset barriers to do it.

She has since built a multiple 6-figure business as a single mom, and served dozens of clients all over the world.

In the episode we talk through some of the difficult and courageous decisions she’s had to do to create the unapologetic life she leads today and how the spaces she didn't belong in became expansive and beneficial for her growth and healing.

Ep. 29. Being Courageous is in our Blood | Releasing Self-Doubt and Shame

Ep. 29. Being Courageous is in our Blood | Releasing Self-Doubt and Shame

Welcome back! I’m back from my month-long hiatus..

I’m learning that inconsistency is not a problem as long as I’m committed so I’ve been committed to other things like rest, my yoga training and spending time with family at the moment so thank you for allowing me to step away for a bit but I’m excited to be back!

As some of you may know, this Summer has been very active! In the last several weeks I’ve had new career opportunities which had my full attention and my sister moved in with us for the Summer so I’ve been trying to spend more time with her and Lupo.

If you’re familiar with my journey I’m the oldest daughter of immigrant parents and recently I've been prioritizing nurturing my inner-child and reparenting my self by redefining the narratives that no longer serve me. Shame and self-doubt that was something I carried within me for a long time. Being called things like, chillona, sin verguenza and mandona kept me playing small and develop a fear of visibility. In the last couple of years, I've been able to turn these labels into my super power.  By moving through the discomfort and leaning on my support systems, I've learned to release it in order to step into my most confident and unapologetic self.

Throughout the episode, I share tools on how I’ve been able to move through self-doubt and release the shame along my self-discovery and healing journey as a first-gen Latina entrepreneur ✨

Low sense of identity, people pleasing, fear of failure, lack of boundaries and comparison were symptoms of self-doubt that kept me me in my comfort zone and missing out on opportunities for so long.

I hope this inspires you to keep going and celebrating your magic x 🦋

If any of this resonated and you want to learn more about rediscovering your most authentic self in order to show up more unapologetic on and offline, I invite you to apply for my 1:1 coaching program here:

Ep. 28. Disempowering Imposter Syndrome

Ep. 28. Disempowering Imposter Syndrome

I'm baaaaack and I'm coming in hot with this episode where I share my experience with imposter syndrome as a women of color in the influencer industry, the coaching industry, and my full-time marketing role in higher-ed.

Imposter syndrome is a common term used to describe thoughts and feelings of inadequacy and inferiority despite evident success. But what imposter syndrome fails to take into account systemic oppression failing a group of individuals instead of the other way around.

When I was able to bring awareness to this, I was able to develop tools and beliefs that helped me disempower it, lead with a growth mindset and continue taking up space, unapologetically, even in those spaces that were not designed with people like me in mind.

I hope this episode inspires you to move with a little more confidence in your everyday life and recognize that a little self-doubt is normal. Especially when you're breaking ceilings and disrupting the status norms. Because the truth is, no one really knows what they’re doing. We're all doing things afraid and insecure but that's not a reason to not give yourself the credit that you deserve and honor the state of growth.

If you believed you were good enough today, what would you do differently?

What would I do if I knew I may fail and STILL be okay?

On this episode, we are joined by none other than Nana Agyemang! She is a multimedia journalist and CEO and founder of EveryStylishGirl that works to provide consulting and networking platforms for Black and brown women to connect and build their brands.

Formerly Nana worked as a journalist and social editor for New York Magazine, BBC News, The New York Times and CBS. Her focus on telling stories about the lives of Black women led her to attend Columbia University for her Masters in Multimedia Journalism.

As part of her continued passion to display diversity in media and fashion, she created EveryStylishGirl Biz, a sister brand to ESG and a platform for WOC looking to change the world of business. In addition to running both companies, Nana loves to report on social activism and women entrepreneurs. She wants to ensure that the news we read reflects the diverse world we live in.

If that doesn’t hype you up enough, idk what will. Throughout the episode, Nana shares with us her journey as one of the few Black women in media and how she turned that lack of representation into her purpose and passion. We chat about how her unapologetic determination and intentional authority in every step of her journey cultivated a prosperous business and community.

BONUS Ep 22. How to Rediscover Your Most Confident Self in your Everyday Life

BONUS Ep 22. How to Rediscover Your Most Confident Self in your Everyday Life

On this episode, I share tangible to tools on how I built confidence in my everyday life. by taking up space in spaces I felt safe, trying things out of my comfort zone, asking for what I needed, following through with the commitments I've made for myself to build self-trust, becoming aware of my thoughts and stories I tell myself and embracing my imperfections.

My imperfections make me human, they make me connected, my life lessons make me qualified to help others, they make me enough and I believe it. I know that perfection is subjective and I can’t control what other people think but I can start by being happy and celebrating where we are right now and the versions of ourselves that got us to today.

Everyone started somewhere but what matters is that they started. They pushed through the discomfort and simply trusted that they had their own back. When you start developing this self-trust and internal validation, radical self-love, everything else begins to align and you make more room for the things that serve you.  The right partner, more business opportunities, more financial growth, better friendships and so on.

This sh*t is hard and uncomfortable especially if you've had a wounded past that has taken the self-confidence away from you but everything that you’re working towards ends up outweighing discomfort so keep going and prove it to yourself by the small wins. That’s where the magic is. The more you start listening to yourself, the more aligned you will feel with your highest, most authentic self.

Ep. 17. For Brown Girls with Sharp Edges and Tender Hearts with Prisca Dorcas

Today's Grow with the Flow Podcast guest is one of my favorite writers, storytellers, theologians, feminists, and pit bull fanatics. Prisca Dorcas! Who might I add is a fellow Nicaraguense.

Prisca’s bulk of her work is around making education accessible, through storytelling and curating content.

She started the platform Latina Rebels in 2013, which today has over 300k organic followers online. She has been featured in Telemundo, Univision, Mitú, amongst many other news outlets. She is unapologetic, angry, and uncompromising about protecting and upholding the stories of Latinx communities. Her new book For Brown Girls with Sharp Edges and Tender hearts is the love letter to women of color we didn’t know we needed.

This book validated all of the healing I’ve spent these last couple of years doing and was the momentum that I needed to keep going.

Throughout the episode, we chat about finding your voice and reclaiming your life through story-telling and inner-child healing. We dive into the uncomfortable journey of choosing yourself and setting boundaries with family members.

This episode is for everyone who has felt like they've been living under a mask, without a sense of belonging, with strained parent relationships, and with a fear of disappointing others and taking up space. You are not alone and I hope by listening to this, you find even the slightest bit of empowerment to choose yourself each time.

I’ll let the episode speak for itself but if you enjoyed it, please  share it on your stories, with a friend and leave a review.

Trigger warning: We briefly discuss abortion at 18:05.

*The unsettling racial violence against the Asian community in recent events has been devastating. Sadly, these are not isolated incidents but a part of larger historical patterns of anti-asian hate and violence since the Chinese Exclusion Act.

In the US over 3700 self-reported incidents of Anti-Asian Discrimination occurred in the last year according to stop AAPI hate. Myself and Grow with the Flow Podcast stands against anti-Asian racism and xenophobia.

2. Noticing the behaviors -- how do you behaviors influence the decisions you make + how you show up in the world?

3. Embody your release -- imagine (meditate, visualize) yourself free the expectations; how do you move in the world? how do you dress, where do you work?

4. Prepare for the resistance -- write down affirmations that speak truth to the transformation you have just made. whenever you notice the expectations trying to creep up, use them!

5. RELEASE! -- rip up (or safely burn) the expectations that you identified in step #1. this is the representation of the expectations no longer existing in your life.
