Episode 102 - Baby, I'm a Comics Publisher! with Avi from Silver Sprocket Press

Episode 102 - Baby, I'm a Comics Publisher! with Avi from Silver Sprocket Press

As some of you may know, Cam has been dealing with several different personal issues over the last few months, so he's taking a break from the show until further notice. I expect him to return relatively soon, so don't fret. In the meantime, I'm going to do my best to keep the shit-talking flame alight. Last weekend was the much anticipated return of CAKE, or Chicago Alternative Comix Expo, after a three-year hiatus. And after tabling the entire weekend and seeing so many new and familiar faces, I think it's safe to say that we're fucking back. Joining me in the post-CAKE celebration is Avi, the San Francisco-based owner and operator of Silver Sprocket Press to talk about his time at the show, as well as getting deep into his and Silver Sprocket's lore. From his humble beginnings as a boy genius, to managing bands and selling records for his DIY music label, Avi has done it all. And what's left to conquer? Comics of course. We talk about the development and evolution of Silver Sprocket, how he pivoted from selling music to selling funny books, and what's on the horizon for the plucky self-starter and his uniquely ambitious small press publisher. Check out the Silver Sprocket webstore to purchase their fine publiations and follow them on Instagram @silversprocket and on Twitter @ssbcpunk. Questions? Comments? Suggestions? We talk about his new book, Sammy the Mouse Book 3 (Killgore Books/La Mano 21), having returned from a nearly decade-long hiatus. We also discuss his return, why he needed to take a step back from small press comics, his time as an educator, and his overall thoughts on what comics means to him after nearly 30+ years in the game.

The boys couldn't get a mainfeed episode wrapped up in time due to time constraints and schedule conflicts, so for this week we present to you a bonus episode from the Patreon Vault featuring past guest and frequent frenemy Ramon Villalobos to review Funny Pages. Lots of varying opinions on this movie, with hotly contentious back-and-forths coupled with touches of homophobia and ableism. Who ends up coming out on top as the superior film enjoyer? Episode 93 - Please End It All

Episode 93 - Please End It All

Can't believe it's been four years of Gutter Boys. Nothing flashy for this episode: no guests, no wacky reveals - none of that. We figured it only made sense to go classico mode and trade some general comics chitter chatter and how we're all looking forward to 20 more years of live-action superhero content that's definitely not made for developmentally stunted babies. Now go out there and crack some heads and create some earners out there.

Ep 92 - In the Mood for Posts with Erwin Papa

Apple is officially on #PACKWATCH. While the boys are in the intro, Cam is MIA for the interview due to his Mac eating shit. This one runs longer than usual, but it's a great interview and we barely covered everything that we wanted to discuss. Expect Erwin to return on a future Patreon-exclusive bonus episode.

Episode 76 - The Dark Knight's Dong Rises with Ryan Alves

When the 2021 Guysner Award winner Nate McDonough asked us to have Providence-based cartoonist and illustrator Ryan Alves on an episode, we knew this was a big favor. Would we set a dangerous precedent by allowing someone to dictate who comes on? Would Ryan Alves meet the high watermark set by past guests? The answer to both questions is yes. If you're a Guysner winner, you get more leeway. And besides, Ryan is great and he would've been on the show anyway. To Nate's credit, he did expedite the process. Again, Guysner. After a few scheduling conflicts, we finally sat down with Ryan to talk about his rapidly growing body of work including Bubblegum Maelstrom and Moustache, why he got into comics, his experience at the Winter Hocking Hills Cartoonist Retreat, and who has the biggest hog in Batman's rogues gallery (it's Bane).

Spring is in the air and da boys are ready to prance through the tulips in celebration of this thing of ours we call comics. Our guest for this episode is Brooklyn-based artist Austin English who's been running the small press publisher Domino Books for over a decade providing readers with print offerins well off the beaten path. We discuss his newest book, Meskin and Umezo, as well as his process and approach to the media, his publishing journey that led him to become one of the top names in the world of small press comics, and his general thoughts on the business. This one might be our longest single episode so far, but we think you'll wanna stick around for the whole thing.

Go to dominobooks.org to check out what Domino Books has to offer and follow Austin on Instagram & Twitter @dominocomics.

Episode 73 - Try Finger, But Hole with Jasper Jubenvill

Episode 73 - Try Finger, But Hole with Jasper Jubenvill

Even though we said we wouldn't have repeat guests on the main feed, it's only fair to have 2021's Pimp of the Year Jasper Jubenvill come on for a second time to really hash it out for the listeners. We go in-depth about process, his influences, his current love affair with Elden Ring, and why Cam loves WWE2K22 so much.

EDITOR'S NOTE: We erroneously referred to Nate McDonough as a Pimp of the Year when in fact he was only the recipient of the Dudes Rock Award. JB will receive 20 lashings from Nate for his transgression and we hope you can find it in your hearts to forgive us.

Follow Jasper on Instagram @jasper.jubenvill. He does not have a website yet, so be sure to judge him harshly for that.

Episode 72 - Ligmafongo with Daniel Irizarri

Episode 72 - Ligmafongo with Daniel Irizarri

Mírame a los ojos cuando digas mi nombre! No me confrontes si no eres hombre! Da boys are riding dirty with the Boricua Prince, one-half of Mex Flentallo, the wonderfully talented Puerto Rico-based illustrator and comic artist Daniel Irizarri aka DIO. We discuss Dio's upbringing in the US and its alleged territories, his development as a comic creator, the various projects he's worked on, and his current book Holy West with Seth Jacob. Don't worry, we also do bits and talk cuisine.

Check out Dio's work on Instagram or see what he's posting on Twitter @danielirizarri and support the Mex Flentallo crew on Twitter @flentallo.
