#29 How to help your gymnasts ACTUALLY think positively.
We all know that positive thinking is important. You want your gymnasts to believe in themselves, feel confident, and banish their doubts and fears. But if you have tried thought swapping, you know this can be harder than it seems. Learning to think of a new, more positive thought is a skill. Just like a gymnastics skill, there are steps, and progressions and it takes practice. But the effort is totally worth it. It is the way to overcome fear, mental blocks, doubt, performance anxiety... and enjoy gymnastics again. Ali and Stacie teach a mindset tool this week that you can use to help your gymnasts actually think positively. For more examples of what we teach gymnasts on this topic, head over to Instagram or Facebook. And if you want to explore how you and your team or an individual gymnast might work with us, check us out at gymnasticsmindsetacademy.com.

#28 How to help your gymnasts find motivation and the other positive feelings they need.
Wouldn't be AMAZING if your gymnasts were motivated, determined, focused, and ready to work each day? And if that motivation came from within them instead of you trying to motivate them? This week Ali and Stacie teach a tool for gymnastics mindset training that helps your gymnasts do just that. Find inner motivation, drive, focus, determination - whatever they need. Tune in to learn more! For more examples of what we teach gymnasts on this topic, head over to Instagram or Facebook. #27 Help your gymnasts find more useful thoughts for a positive mindset
When we think specific thoughts, we build a "roadway" in our brain. And it can become impossible to see that there are other possible "roads" we could take instead. This week Ali and Stacie talk about a gymnastics mindset training tool that helps your gymnasts explore other possible things they could be thinking instead. This will help them when they are struggling with upgrades, negative thinking, mental blocks, performance anxiety and so much more. For more examples of what we teach gymnasts on this topic, head over to Instagram or Facebook. And if you want to explore how you and your team or an individual gymnast might work with us, check us out at gymnasticsmindsetacademy.com.

#26 Help your gymnasts watch their mental replays in a positive light
Have you ever tried to help your gymnasts with their mindset, asked them what they are thinking, only to have them honestly not know. It's hard to help them understand and change their negative thoughts when they don't even know what they are. Gymnasts often think back on what they did in practice, on the last event, on their last turn, and criticize it. And when they try to look at their thoughts to understand what is going on with their skills, they do the same. This is a problem because our brains hate to be criticized. And so it will actually hide our thoughts from us if it is afraid we are going to judge ourselves harshly. This means when your gymnast tries to figure out what she was thinking so that she can change it to something that is more useful, she won't be able to see it. This week, we teach our gymnasts a mindset training activity that helps gymnasts learn to observe their thoughts in a way that helps them. Tune in! For more examples of what we teach gymnasts on this topic, head over to Instagram or Facebook. And if you want to explore how you and your team or an individual gymnast might work with us, check us out at gymnasticsmindsetacademy.com.

#25 Help your gymnasts own their path to a successful season.
So many coaches and gymnasts set goals and then rarely pull them out again. Or they set goals and then don't help their gymnasts connect the daily and weekly work they do with those goals. Ali and Stacie talk about setting the skill goals your gymnasts need to reach their season goals, and how to help them OWN their own upgrades.

#24 Success next season takes more than new gymnastics skills
It takes more than just gymnastics skills to reach a big goal. A healthy mindset built on self-belief, and the ability to persevere and deal with the ups and downs is critical. Ali and Stacie talk through how to help your gymnasts set the mindset goals they will need to reach their season goals. For more examples of what we teach gymnasts on this topic, head over to Instagram or Facebook. #23 Set your gymnasts up for success next season with a big goal that challenges them.
Setting a season success goal will give your gymnasts - and your team- something to focus on. A big goal - when put into the right framework- is motivating and helps your gymnast accomplish far more than they thought they could. Here is how you can help your gymnasts set big goals that will motivate them through the coming year.  This will help them get through the grind of drills and conditioning, through fear and mental blocks during upgrades, and through the nervousness of competition next season. Let's go after those goals! For more examples of what we teach gymnasts on this topic, head over to Instagram or Facebook. #22 Help your gymnast let go of the things from this season that didn’t go so well.
You will often find your gymnasts looking at their past and making it mean something about them for the future. A few falls in a meet season become "I can't compete well." Difficulty on a skill turns into "I am just bad at that event." Ali and Stacie talk about how to help your gymnasts look at the facts of the last season, and determine how they want to think about it going forward in a way that will help them be successful in the coming year. For more examples of what we teach gymnasts on this topic, head over to Instagram or Facebook. #21 Help your gymnasts learn from this season so they can be even more successful next season.
After the last meet of the season has finished, it is important to help your gymnasts take time to evaluate the year. We so often just move into the next thing, when there is so much to be learned from what we just did. Ali and Stacie talk about why it is so important to evaluate, and how to evaluate with curiosity instead of criticalness. Your gymnasts will be able to see how things came together this season so much more clearly from this vantage point. #20 How to turn pressure into motivation.
Your gymnasts struggle to deal with the pressure. They create all these ideas in their head that lead them to feel pressure. Things they have to do - or else some terrible outcome they don't want. I have to hit or my coach will be mad. I have to hit or I won't qualify. I have to hit or my parents will be disappointed. Here are some ways to help them change that inner dialogue so they can perform like they practice and hit under pressure.   For more examples of what we teach gymnasts on this topic, head over to Instagram or Facebook. #19 Are your gymnasts nervous? Here’s how to help them.
Nervous. It seems to be the feeling your gymnasts dread to feel. Most gymnasts want to do whatever they can to get things over with so they can stop feeling nervous. But feeling nervous is a normal response in competition. Here are some ideas to help you help your gymnasts with nerves in the gym and out on the competition floor. This will help with performance anxiety, help them overcome their fears in competition, and help them feel calm, confident, and excited in competition. #18 How to help your gymnasts with all the crazy What Ifs that go through their head.
What if, what if, what if. Your gymnasts' brains are FULL of all the worst things that they think could happen when they compete. Most of the time, they just try not to think about them and push them away. Which never works. We will help you help your gymnasts deal with all their crazy what ifs in a way that helps diffuse them so they aren't so scary. And then move to the positive what ifs that will have them motivated and excited for their meet. For more examples of what we teach gymnasts on this topic, head over to Instagram or Facebook. #16 Here’s why celebration is a key ingredient for your gymnasts to reach their goals.
When your gymnasts think the only time they should celebrate their success is at a meet or when they hit their goal, most of their training will become unenjoyable. Teach your gymnasts to celebrate along the way. This will help them create the motivation, excitment and determination they need to get to their goal. #15 Here's how to remove the drama so you can have productive practices.
Trying different things to actually make a correction or a change in a skill is often hard for a gymnast. They want perfection right away and think that anything short of that is a problem. This prohibits them from trying different things, learning and ultimately getting the skill correctly. We teach gymnasts to use the scientific method instead - to be curious about the problem and experiement until they find what works. Join us as we share how. This tool works both in digging into details during competition season, and in learning new upgrades and skills throughout the year. Most people set goals and then just keep doing the same thing they were already doing. Goals without a plan of what needs to be done to get there rarely are achieved. #13 Help your gymnasts finish out meet season at their best.
Your gymnasts are at a point in the season where they usually start to loose their motivation. We like to help give their brain something to be motivated about by setting or revisitng their season goal. So we spend the month of march helping them focus in on what they want to accomplish and everything they need to do to get there. This gymnastics mindset training focus will help them be self motivated to keep working hard. And give them to focus to actually dig into the details and make those small corrections that will get them to that goal.

#10 Helping your gymnasts deal with the fear of falling in a meet.
One of the first things we teach a young gymnast is how to fall safely. Because we all know that for sure, a gymnast is going to fall. And so we prepare them for it.  And yet, we (and they) still think something has gone wrong when they actually fall in a meet. Even though ALL gymnasts fall in meets at some point.  Teaching your gymnast that falling is fine is the most effective way to help them hit consistently.  Join us as we talk about why and give some ideas for helping your gymnasts adopt this belief.    Check out more teaching videos for coaches by subscribing to our youtube channel, and more teaching for gymnasts on our instagram and facebook.  Or, connect with us on our website at gymnasticsmindsetacademy.com. gymnasticsmindsetacademy.com

#8 How your gymnasts can feel confident even when they don't.
It can seem in gymnastics, that your gymnasts being tired all the time, sore, without enough energy to get through workout is just how it is. That injuries are just par for the course. But according to our special guest, Kerry Bair with the Gymnast RD, it doesn’t have to be this way. Most gymnasts experience this because they are underfueled. They simply aren’t eating enough.   Mental blocks, frustration, being hangry, all are symptoms of your gymnast simply not having enough fuel to do what gymnastics requires of them. Listen in to this incredibly informative conversation to learn more about proper fueling for your gymnast so they can be successful. A well fueled gymnast is a happier, healthier gymnast. gymnasticsmindsetacademy.com.

#6 Your gymnasts are afraid of what they will feel if they mess up. Here's how to help them.
The second pillar of competing with confidence is learning how to deal with your emotions.  Competition is full of strong emotions, and knowing how to deal with them - and how not to dread them will help your athlete tremendously in competition.  Dealing with performance anxiety, overcoming fears and nerves, and being mentally tough is all about learning how to not just stuff aside emotion, but how to  process and deal with them. In this episode, we talk about how to do just that. #5 Teach your gymnasts how they can trust themselves to do what they say they will do.
We are focusing on building self-confidence this month. One area to do this is by teaching athletes to trust themselves. Sometimes we hear gymnasts say they are going for a skill, but then they don't. This is the opposite of self-confidence. Learning to trust yourself and do what you say you're going to do isn't always easy. Listen to our podcast to get some mindset training tips on how to help your gymnast trust themself and continue building their self-confidence in the process.
