In this episode of Girl, You So Random, I had the pleasure of talking with Taja Morris, the founder and executive director of Sisters with an Agenda. Sisters with an Agenda utilizes the principles of effective mentorship to positively impact the lives of Black girls and Black women. Sisters with an Agenda gives tips, tools, resources and offers a safe space for Black girls and women to engage in non-judgemental dialogue with the goal to provide and build healthy relationships, establish a personal and professional mission, while working on personal development. Taja noted that without her mother and the women mentors she had throughout her life, she would not be where she is today. She wants Black girls and women to have the same mentorship and guidance to feel secure in becoming successful! Taja is also a coach, creator, and advocate in Philadelphia.

In this episode of Girl, You So Random, I had the pleasure of kicking the breeze with Comedienne and writer Bre Smiley who masquerades as a beautiful, intelligent professional black woman navigating the world of life, love, and relationships or lack thereof. On stage and via her pen, her creative, resilience, and free spirit makes this comedienne an ever-entertaining enigma!

In this episode of Girl, You So Random, I had the pleasure of talking to Rafyah Lumb, a Philly native and owner of Naturally Neat Cleaning Services. Rafyah developed the vision for Naturally Neat during her years working in the healthcare field where she gained an understanding of the relationship between cleanliness and overall health. Rafyah also observed how adversely some of the chemical cleaning agents affected residents and staff over time. Her solution; provide a cleaning service utilizing only the most effective natural cleaning agents. Rafyah’s vision became a reality and now she serves scores of satisfied customers.

In this episode of Girl, You So Random, I had the pleasure of talking with Christie Glascoe, a published author, ghostwriter, professional editor, and award-winning screenwriter who has wrestled words into willful submission for nearly 20 years. In addition to non-fiction books and novels, Christie has collaborated with other writers, producers, and directors to create scripts for live-action films/series and scripted audio programs in multiple genres. One of her audio series pilots was a 2nd Rounder in the 2023 Austin Film Festival Script Competition and a Quarterfinalist in the Roadmap Writers Podcasting Competition. A short film recently received an honorable mention from the Chicago Script Awards. The DC/Maryland native currently resides in metro Atlanta, Georgia, and is probably writing something cool.

Her experiences include PR, marketing, and customer service management for government and top retail brands, landing career opportunities on reality TV shows and primetime shows on FOX, ABC, CBS, NBC, and BET. Nicole resides in Philly with her husband and two beautiful children.

In this episode of Girl, You So Random, I wrap up season 5 of the podcast. I ran into someone I knew from high school recently at the grocery store after not seeing each other for years. We started talking, catching each other up on our current lives and she told me her daughter Jan is considering comedy. Since I am a stand-up comedian, her mother asked if I would give Jan some advice on how to be a comedy student, and not a dick or diva. I agreed, so here goes…

In this episode of Girl, You So Random, I had the pleasure of talking with Chef Kim Lawrence. She’s a Baltimore-native and Philadelphia-grown, rising food entrepreneur. Chef Kim Lawrence holds 19 years in the hospitality industry. She found her love for cooking and entertaining while in college. After years of perfecting her love for food, Chef Kim took the big leap in the height of COVID in 2020 and established Kim Kooks, a mobile catering and personal chef experience brand. Her multifaceted hospitality brick and mortar at Kim Kooks includes a weekday cafe, catering kitchen and intimate event space that prides itself on curating memorable dining experiences around "Kultural Komfort Food" from all cultures.

In this episode of Girl, You So Random, I had the pleasure of talking with Sabriaya Shipley, an author, educator, storyteller, and community ethnographer. In 2019, Sabriaya was named A+ Educator by Philadelphia Magazine. In 2020, she co-founded Griot Girls - a writing collective for young Black and brown girls. In 2021, Sabriaya was a recipient of the Philadelphia Foundation and Forman Arts Initiative Arts Works grant and a Black Lives Matter Philly Educator Fellow. In 2022, the Rosine 2.0 Past Visions/Future Archives Micorgrant, and recently an Allens Lane's Rebeccah Milena Maia Blum Curatorial Fellowship. Sabriaya also authored and published Somewhere Between God & Mammy in 2022. Sabriaya is determined to cultivate performance, art, and archival spaces centered around the expressive freedom of Black, Brown, and Indigenous communities. They have collaborated with The Painted Bride Art Center, The Colored Girls Museum, Mural Arts Philadelphia, Philadelphia Young Playwrights, New Voices for Reproductive Justice, Artwell Philly, Tree House Books, Residency 1111 in London, and more.

In this episode of Girl, You So Random, I had the pleasure of talking with Desi Rawlerson. She’s an Ohio native living in Baltimore where she teaches preschool. She is inspired to help adults with ADHD after being diagnosed in her last year of college. Since then, she has dabbled in stand-up and doing improv for 10 years. She performs in a Baltimore-based; all-black casts improv show called Block Party at the BlakWater House.

In this episode of Girl, You So Random, I had the pleasure of talking with Anjoli Santiago. She started as an actress/poet/teaching artist, dancing about city theatres and exercising the skills earned from a B.A. in Theatre at Temple University. She was a NY Teaching Fellow, graduating with honors from CUNY City College with an M.S.Ed. She taught in the South Bronx as a Special Education and Creative Arts teacher for grades 6-12 and developed an after-school and summer programming for grades 6-8 with Liberty Leads from Bank Street College in Harlem. She is a lifelong artist and current Director of Education and Public Programs at the Philadelphia Theatre Company.

In this episode of Girl, You So Random, I had the pleasure of hanging out with Monica, the Founder/Owner of Scorpio Candle Company in Philly. She started Scorpio Candle Company because of her love of candles and wanting to stop buying them from the big-box stores like Bath & Body Works or Yankee Candles. She learned how to make her own, shared them for her family to test and the rest was history.

In this episode of Girl, You So Random, I had the pleasure of kicking the breeze with Moneek Pines, a passionate and versatile art entrepreneur from South Philadelphia. She is the CEO of ARTrageous Kids Childcare Center, LLC, a daycare she established to introduce children to the world of art. She now serves as the lead creative artist at ARTrageous Brush & Flow and curates a "Passport Through the Arts" after-school cultural program to empower youth at the Lenfest Center. Moneek uses art to support schools in urban communities, addressing poverty, depression and anxiety. She is deeply committed to exploring diverse cultural art themes and sharing them with her community through her 'ARTrageously' fun painting parties. She’s a wife and mother to three sons.

In this episode of Girl, You So Random, I had the pleasure of hanging out with Alexis Wood of Autsome Brushes, an Autism Awareness retail company. She and her daughter Milan founded Autsome Brushes in 2018 when Milan was diagnosed at the age of 2 with Autism Spectrum Disorde. Autsome Brushes was designed to bridge the gap between those who are unfamiliar and those diagnosed with autism to bring awareness and help support organizations that support families and individuals with Autism by donating a portion of their revenues. As of 2023, Autsome rushes has donated to over 15 non-profit organizations within the US and has been shipped to over 34 different states and countries.

In this episode of Girl, You So Random, I had the pleasure of talking to Sabrina Keeton-Hill. Sabrina is an interventional technologist in Philly. In 2006, she received her associate degree in Radiology from Drexel University. Her compassion to educate her community & herself with holistic practices lead her to furthering her education at Queen Afua Wellness University where she received her certificate for Sacred Woman Practitioner in 2017. In 2019, she also received certifications as a Yoni Steam Practitioner, Reiki, Herbalist and as a health coach with Integrative Institution of Nutrition, one of the largest online nutrition schools in the world. Currently she is studying at Chestnut School of Herbal Medicine and the proud owner of Queens United Wholistic Center LLC.

In this episode of Girl, You So Random, I had the pleasure of kicking the breeze Karamell Jones. She is Award Winning Filmmaker, author, and Podcaster, Karamell wrote and produced her first stage play “Secrets” in 2019 and first short film “Twisted Dreams” in 2020 that won an Award for Best Short Drama in the London Indie Film Festival, received 8 Official Selection, 6 Finalist Selection, 3 Semi-Finalist Selection, 3 Nominee Selection and 1 Honorable Mention. She completed her second short film in 2021 “Loves Changes Everything” that has received its first Official Selection and first Nomination. She is currently working on completing her fourth book, it is the 3rd and final book in the Twisted Dreams series. She is also working on her 2nd podcast series based on a story she wrote. She just completed a psychological thriller short film to premiere for Halloween.

By day, she works as a professional in educational leadership as a school psychologist; so, you can understand her choosing comedy as an outlet. After work, Da DocChoc, her stage persona, lights up the room as a new stand-up comedian. Her material is honest, sassy, and relatable jokes that will likely make your stomach sore! In this episode of Girl, You So Random, I had the pleasure of talking to Karin Knowlson also known as “KK.” She is a comedian, a sober boy mom of 3, and brain tumor survivor who attributes healing from brain surgery to the best possible medicine - laughter. She’s got lots of stories. Despite having lingering disabilities, Karin uses the motto “persevere” in an attempt to encourage people to keep going. Trying to make people smile is her “next chapter” career choice pursuing a plan from her youth.

In this episode of Girl, You So Random, I had the pleasure of having Tenaya Wade on the show. We talked about her transition from being a therapist to real estate agent, how you can self-sabotage as an entrepreneur and more. 

Tenaya is the founder and CEO of Total Healing Counseling and Wellness Center, a behavioral health counseling practice that focuses on providing mental health services and resources to those within the state of Texas. Tenaya is well known around the Dallas/Ft. Worth area for the services she provides. Tenaya also manages a blog, The CLH (Coffee, Love, and Happiness) Brand, which is a blog that focuses on the ideology that we can be both happy and healing simultaneously. While the blog is newly launched Tenaya outlines her experiences in the foster care system along with other adversities she and others have overcome. Tenaya holds a Master’s in Mental Health Counseling and expects to receive her Ph. D in Human and Social Services by Summer of 2023 from Walden University. Tenaya believes her purpose is to serve her community with an emphasis on those who have been a part of the foster care system.

In this episode of Girl, You So Random, I had the pleasure of having Dr. Tiffany M. Jenkins on the show. We had to deep dive and discuss how and when "doing it for the culture" goes wrong. This episode is longer than my usual, but we had to go there!

Affectionately known as “Dr. J”, she is the founder and Executive Director of Awakening Change, LLC.  As a licensed therapist, Dr. J's’ work centers around individuals struggling with anxiety, depression, and/or substance use. She blends Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Motivational Enhancement Therapy to create safe spaces for individuals and teams to share, learn, and grow. When not in the therapist’s seat, Dr. Jenkins enjoys working with supervisors and managers to improve leadership outcomes through her innovative coaching curriculum. Dr. Jenkins is also the author of "Reclaiming My Time: A Black Woman's Guide to Self-Care" and was a contributing expert in the anthology, "Shut 'Em Down: Black Women, Racism, and Corporate America".
