M8 Podcast

By Hannah Hank

Hey I’m Hannah Hank!
I hoop for Clemson University in South Carolina, USA.
I am a born and bred South Aussie, having grown up on the beautiful Eyre Peninsula.
I am an ambassador for Tigers Across the Globe (TAG) that falls under the umbrella of Tigers Unite, aimed to build community and enhance the student athlete experience.
I release content around the 8 minute mark talking college ball, sharing international student athlete perspectives and shouting out stories I gotta hunch you’ll wanna hear.

I'm not sure if I will continue podcasting... especially now my Clemson adobe subscription just timed out... but I will continue creating. If you're not fed up with my cringey content yet, you can access my old/evolving projects on my website hannahhank.com SOON as I begin my pro ball career. Tag along if you're keen or to talk shit haha!

I'll be really honest.

Since moving back to Australia I've had time to sit with my experience at Clemson.

Some days Clemson WAS a movie and I had to scrape my jaw off the ground at how incredible American collegiate athletics is. Insane. While I did have some of the best of times in Clemson, I won't lie and say I didn't have some really dark days there too.

I'm lucky Clemson had some great resources and for the people there that really understood what it all meant to me. Even if some teammates didn't understand why I would combust into tears talking about family and the sacrifices it took for me to be there. I think that speaks to the human experience of connection, to be misunderstood by many and have your heart heard by the select few that really see you.

I think there are a lot of misconceptions in Australia about playing collegiate basketball in the US because we're for the most part, only exposed to the highlight reels... when riding the pine, injuries and questioning how much a flight home would cost isn't even on the radar. If I could go back and do my college experience again. I wouldn't lmao. But I am so grateful and so proud of my time there. Man I met some awesome people. Blew my mind open to different ideas and perspectives too. I wouldn't trade my experience at Clemson for anything. I really am so thankful for the opportunity I had to be a collegiate athlete for Clemson University.

Enjoy my graduation speech for the class of 2023 and remember!! The world is your oyster!

Sincerely

8 with your M8 Hank xx

25 for #25

25 for #25

I have the honor of sharing #25's story with you.

If you've had the pleasure of playing with Sydney Standifer like me you'll know her as one of those teammates referred to as "the glue of the team". She pulls people together in the best and worst of times, shares her love for the game with others and calls things for what they are like a true point guard. I remember my first practice with Sydney thinking "man she's gonna bash that ball in" lol. I knew then and there as she brought the ball up the court that it came as second nature to her because of the work she'd put in to have that kind of handle. That was the first of many moments when I saw how much strength was held up in that small frame you might misjudge at a first glance. Personally, I think her biggest attribute as a player was that huge heart of hers. Heart is one of those intangibles as an athlete that doesn't just change the outcome of a game but inspires the lives of those around you.

Syd you're a great teammate but I consider you an even greater mate of mine. Medically retired, #25 is forever part of your story. I'm grateful you're sharing this to help others transitioning to life after the ball stops bouncing. Hopefully we can all be as courageous as you when our time to pass the rock comes too.

To all the athletes tuning in, remember: basketball is what we do not who we are.

Something that really moved me while creating this episode was Janna encouraging me to share my "too much" because in doing so we enable others to do so too. Give yourself permission to be human, to screw up, to ask for help and to try because in Janna's words, you might just inspire someone to give it a GO too.

As always thank you to The Roar for publishing M8 Podcast and looking forward to some exciting collaborations with Tiger Vision soon too!!

"WD>WS" ft. Sara McGuire

"WD>WS" ft. Sara McGuire

I was fortunate enough to be joined by the baddie, bench press beast and beloved GA for Clemson Basketball Strength and Conditioning - ELLLIIITE - Sara McGuire on M8 Podcast.

Join Sara and I for a conversation and close reading of Jon Gordan's The Hard Hat : 21 Ways to be a Great Teammate

My Mum gave me the book to read as a gift the season prior to me coming to play for Clemson in 2018 because she'd heard it was the team's summer read that year (our coach AB gives players a book to read in the summer prior to every season). A little while ago Sara brought up the book in a team Breakfast of Champions session she hosted (BOC- where we share and learn about how to practice being a champion before becoming a champion via readings, videos, podcasts and activities). Being a great teammate definitely lends to being a champion given the parallels between uplifting others and growth as a collective.

I'm grateful for Sara, her honesty in this interview and sincerity on an everyday basis. Sara is the kind of teammate who asks how you're doing, how your day has been, and really pauses to listen because she cares.

Thank you Sara. You're a real one.

Prescribed Rose Coloured Glasses

Prescribed Rose Coloured Glasses

This episode speaks to the process of making a decision where to play college ball in the United States. I included some of my tips and just some general food for thought.

1. Keeping track of information in a book

2. Identifying/finding ways to measure your priorities for your student athlete experience

Ultimately, I encourage athletes to take off the rose coloured glasses colleges are trying to prescribe you to figure out the best fit for you; not to get caught up in the gear, big names or flashy facilities.

(Over 8 minutes lol)
