Praying for strangers.

Praying for strangers.

Have you ever prayed for a stranger?

I've become so fixated on this idea that I have the mind of Christ (1 Corinthians 2:16), I am one spirit with Christ (1 Corinthians 6:17) and I bring God's kingdom with me. Believe it or not, it has me praying for strangers in stores!

In this episode I share a powerful experience where a stranger prayed for me and how it changed my idea of "Your Kingdom Come".

The point of life.

The point of life.

I've spent a ridiculous amount of time thinking about this question. What is the point of the Christian life? Many in the church will quickly answer- "to give God glory". What does that mean? How do we bring God the most glory?

Today I dive into this question, tell you why the term Christian Hedonism has been blowing my mind, and give you a few points from the book Pleasures Evermore by Sam Storms.

True or False: “The purpose of life is to glorify God, not to be happy”

Engaging in the presence of God.

Engaging in the presence of God.

What if one of the secrets to experiencing more of God is all about His presence? Noelle Beck is with us today talking about her alone time with God, and how our focus should be more on God's PRESENCE and less on our DOING.

Psalm 16:11 ESV You make known to me the path of life; in your presence there is fullness of joy; at your right hand are pleasures forevermore.

Shalom for you.

Shalom for you.

While reading in Psalms I found the sentence "Great is the Lord who delights int he welfare of his servant". The idea of God delighting in my welfare felt... weird? confusing? As I started to look more into this verse I found a great treasure- that the word welfare in the original Hebrew is actually "Shalom". Turns out God's Shalom is pretty incredible, and learning more about it has impact so much in my every day life. Join me as I talk about what it means and why this is so awesome!

Very very very dependent.

Very very very dependent.

“Jesus is, without question, the most dependent human being that ever lived”

What do you think about that quote? Could it be true? Join me as we walk through the book of John and look at Jesus' dependence, and then talk about what in the world we are supposed to do with that. How can we be dependent? What does that look like? And how is it connected to "more" of God?

God pursues His people.

God pursues His people.

Could you summarize the Bible in 8 minutes? I couldn't, but thankfully my friend Laura Veale can! From Genesis to Revelation, each story points to God's desire to be with His people. Join us as we walk through each passage and praise the God who pursues + reveals!

God's glory and the star quarterback.

God's glory and the star quarterback.

What does it mean to give God glory? I've used the phrase "Soli Deo Gloria" (Latin for Glory to God alone) for most of my adult life and always had God's glory on my mind, but is it possible I was still focused on myself? On this episode I share how I used to view myself as the star quarterback on God's team vs. how I see myself now. I pray you can listen and ask God how you view His glory and your part in it!

I still like parties.

I still like parties.

"As I’ve been wanting to enjoy more of God, I’ve struggled with the things I do enjoy. I love our house, decorations, art projects and nice vacations. Is a part of experiencing more of God working to remove those things?"

This week I dive into this question, hobbies, and things we enjoy outside of God!

What we learned.

What we learned.

Well, 2020 was a wild year, wasn't it? On this "end of year" episode we look back on the lessons we learned over the last 12 months. You'll hear from three voices you've come to love- Hannah Nitz, Noelle Beck, & Laura Veale, as they flip through their journals and share their biggest take aways.

Teaching #1: Everything God has, He shares with us.

Teaching #2: God is the most satisfying, even when you have it all.

Teaching #3: We get God.

What was your biggest lesson of 2020? We would love to hear from you- hannahnitz.com/say-hello

I'm not at the center.

I'm not at the center.

The best message I’ve heard the entire year was delivered by my one of my best friends, Laura Veale. We taught a class together at church and she gave a message on "Dying to self" that shook me up for weeks. Is it possible that many of us are Christians who love God and want to serve him, but still believe we are at the center of our lives? I wanted to share that message with you as you begin to think and pray about 2021!

The last election messed me up.

The last election messed me up.

Last election messed me up spiritually. That first Tuesday in November was followed by months of no church, a complete removal from Christian activity, and a distrust of God.

This election won't phase me- so what's the difference?

Pursuing myself during quiet time.

Pursuing myself during quiet time.

When you're spending time with God, what's the MAIN question you are going in with? What are you pursuing and chasing after? What are you hoping to accomplish or feel? I talk through the difference between pursuing ourself vs. pursuing God!

More for you.

More for you.

So we are always talking about "the more" with God, but what is it? Is it a certain level you reach? A closeness you feel? A level of maturity? My thoughts and definition of "the more" got challenged this week, and I'm here to talk about it!

Unhurried, undistracted, & unmovable.

Unhurried, undistracted, & unmovable.

When it comes to your time with God, there isn't a certain formula to follow or steps you need to complete. However, if you want to enjoy your time with God, this episode describes three words that are crucial! What would it look like for your time with God to be unhurried, undistracted, and unmovable?

I'm not very smart.

I'm not very smart.

When I would interact with people who had deep relationships with God, they were always very smart. Doesn't it sometimes seem like the people closest to God are pastors, authors, or people with doctoral degrees? Or at least people who are smarter than you? I've learned that experiencing the "more" with God isn't correlated with your intelligence, but with something else. I also talk through the term "child like faith" and a shocking realization!

Aug 03, 202035:28
Desiring more of God isn't selfish.

Desiring more of God isn't selfish.

I have these two sentences that keep rolling around in my head- things I've heard Christians say that I don't believe are true: Number one, "My relationship with God will have a temporary high". Number two, "Growing your desire for God is selfish". In this episode I throw out these phrases and drop some truth instead.

I guess idolatry is a big deal.

I guess idolatry is a big deal.

I’ve heard the word “idolatry”, I know it’s in the 10 commandments, but honestly, never once have I thought about that word when it comes to my relationship with God. Idolatry isn't a concept stuck in the Old Testament, it's a word and a challenge that we can apply today, that often gets in the way of us experiencing the "more". It may feel a little heavier than our average episode, but I promise I'm right there with you!

Prayer changes things.

Prayer changes things.

That's a phrase we say, but do we really believe it?

Does prayer really change things? Does prayer really matter? Why did God give us such direct access to Him in prayer?

Buckle up, y'all. This conversation with Noelle Beck is wildly encouraging and practical. She also gives some advice on how to become a prayer ninja.

Congrats, you’re the chief of staff.

Congrats, you’re the chief of staff.

When the Bible says we are "stewards of the mysteries of God" and "stewards of God's grace", that's a big deal. God invites us in not just as a servant, but as the manager and chief of staff, taking care of his property while He is gone. I'll break down more of what this means and why it's so sweet! This episode starts with a short clip, talking about the race conversations that have been taking place across the country this month.

You can't trust me if you don't know me.

You can't trust me if you don't know me.

The 25 minute talk I wish every Christian on the planet could hear. A hand-me-down faith. That is what we all start out with- learning about God from someone else.  Do our Christian books, podcasts, and sermons help us "make our faith our own"? Laura Veale shares her story of realizing she was a Christian her entire life, but didn't actually KNOW God. This talk was from our Akron Women on Purpose conference on March 7, 2020. I changed how I read the Bible.

I changed how I read the Bible.

Do you interact with God as your Christian worldview? That's great, but do you stop there? For the past 10 years I've used the Bible more as a "truth manual" and less of a tool to build a relationship with God. My "quiet time" always seemed kinda boring- but a few small changes have lit up my life!
