Join me in a conversation with Jenn Kao, a TV drama writer who specializes in thrillers, sci fi and horror. She’s working on a drama pilot for Peacock and was a co-executive producer on Daybreak by Netflix. Jenn’s also written for Leverage, Emerald City, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, and Lucifer.

Jenn went to film school at UCLA and majored in English at Stanford, where I met her our freshman year.

Jen is Chinese-American and grew up in the far west suburbs of Chicago, where her parents co-founded their town’s first Chinese school. Now she lives in Eagle Rock with her husband and two kids.

In the wake of the George Floyd killing, Jon decided to teach his young sons, ages 10 and 12, how to survive in America. He created an 18-lesson course called The Black Experience in America, which he taught his children and their friends. Jon and his wife also participate in many Korean traditions, and took their sons to Korea to learn about their roots.
