Ep: 21 We're Back! (Not the movie, just us)

Ep: 21 We're Back! (Not the movie, just us)

After a long and unplanned hiatus we're back and we're excited to talk about what we've been up to. Not Off, though, we'll be back on the gay agenda soon. In the meantime Hayden wanted to talk about the weird themes in Night in the Woods, and Lu was excited to share a look at the sexy robots of Warframe.

Ep 20: Krampus

Ep 20: Krampus

It's Christmas Day so we're talking about the 2015 movie Krampus. When a family loses the Christmas spirit it unleashes an evil version of Santa with hooves and dental problems and far more vore than any of us remembered. We discuss the thematic impact of code switiching, the power of character arcs for the ones who survive into the second act of a film, and the true meaning of family.

Ep 19: The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus

Ep 19: The Life and Adventures of Santa Claus

With the winter deep upon us it's time to visit a lesser known Rankin/Bass film about the Life and Adventures of Santa Claus, as well as take some time to think about Santa himself. We talk about whether Santa even did anything in this film, the surprise monster Lu didn't remember from the film, and how old we were when we figured out the Santa myth. Then Hayden finally digs down to explain why the term "daddy" makes him uncomfortable.

Ep 18: The Nightmare Before Christmas

Ep 18: The Nightmare Before Christmas

We're in the thick of holiday season now so this week we're talking about The Nightmare Before Christmas. Join our look back at this Halloween/Christmas story about a skeleton king who isn't satisfied with his life and so tries to take over a new holiday. We talk about Hot Topic romances, what happens when a movie doesn't know its own metaphor, and how Jack Skeleington is really just actual Tim Burton.

Ep 15: Dracula

Ep 15: Dracula

We picked a wild one for this week. After some talk on coffee and tabletop games we take a look at Bram Stoker's 1897 novel about the most famous of vampires and it might be the most queer thing we've seen yet! We break down whether Mina Harker is a good feminist character, why Bram Stoker might have been better as a screenwriter, the most homoerotic scene in this novel, and so much more.

Ep 14: Death Becomes Her

Ep 14: Death Becomes Her

We're finally finishing up Queer Lust Month and our look at witches with Death Becomes Her, a movie that strains belief by asking you to find Meryl Streep unattractive. We talk about gothic architechture, Goldie Hawn's terrible wigs, and whether or not we would want to live forever.

Ep 13: The Witch

Ep 13: The Witch

Queer lust month continues its exploration of witches this week with.... The Witch! We talk about how to read this movie as folklore, how Thomasin's entire family throws her under the horse drawn cart, why Will is just the worst, whether real villains of this film are witches or parents...... and a lot of other stuff, too. There was just a lot to talk about in this one.

Ep 12: Hocus Pocus

Ep 12: Hocus Pocus

Queer Lust Month continues its look at witches with a dive into the 1993 Disney "Horror" movie Hocus Pocus. We talk about how the Sanderson sisters feel like family, one of the best written 8 year olds ever, why no one is talking about the book made of human skin, and Disney's weird obsession with virginity in a PG film. Then Hayden talks about why the actual Salem "witches" get such a bad break in horror movies.

Ep 11: Witches

Ep 11: Witches

It's Queer Lust Month and we're offically starting it off right with a good long talk about history's embodiement of strong lesbian energy: Witches. Is Mrs. Frizzle a witch or a time lady? Is worldbuilding sometimes bad? Who are the formative witches of our lives? Listen to find out answers to these questions and also a deconstruction of anti-capitalistic autonomy in proto-capitalist society.

Ep 10: Posion Ivy and Harley Quinn

We're late but we're back with some iconic queer supervillains. We talk about storylines about recovering from abuse, learning to be better through better relationships, and we try very hard to not talk about the Batman of it all (we fail a little). Then Hayden has some notes on It Chapter 2.

Ep 9: Godzilla (1954)

Ep 9: Godzilla (1954)

We're coming at you atomic hot this week with some big lizard energy. Lu and Hayden talk about language for a bit before looking at the original Japanese monster movie: Godzilla. We talk about in your face metaphor, weapons of mass destruction, and what exactly is "macro." The Lu talks about Hypnospace Outlaw and why the 90s were a good time for the internet.

Ep 8: Orcs

This week we sit down to talk about orcs. How are they so tragic? Why are they so sexy? Where can I find the orc of my dreams? We also share how orcs made our friendship (and by extension this show) possible. Then it's time for some more Very Weird News about baby werewolves.

Ep 7: Megamind

Ep 7: Megamind

We're back this week to gush over the often overlooked 2010 animated film Megamind. We talk about how well this film has aged, what it looks like to be a kidnapping victim with agency, and how it feels to think you belong in the corner. Then Lu shares his thoughts on the best hot new historical pop musical featuring women who were beheaded.

Hayden and Lu take some time to break down the scariest scene in Midsommar before dragging H. P. Lovecraft and his writing through the mud and offering some much better suggestions for what you should look at if you're interested in Eldritch Horror. Then Hayden gets the chance to ask Lu the burning question "Slenderblog or Slash Fiction?"
