Tiernen is one of the founders of the podcast and THE reason why it’s so visually appealing. They are a talented photographer and videographer and excel in both areas. They’ve always had a passion for art, whether that be music, painting, video, photography, or 3D design. When most people were pursuing sports, relationships, or passing Algebra in school, they were behind a computer practicing video editing, photography, and visual effects. They’re also non-binary and believe that it’s very important to let it be known that this is who they are. Their goal is to help make people feel comfortable around non-gender conforming individuals and to help the next generation to know that no matter who you are, what you look like, or what your truth is, you can be successful, happy, and passionate. Tiernen talks with Ashley about their difficult upbringing and coinciding loss of their father. They share how diving into music put a stop to bullying. He is also a former rapper and has shared the stage with several national artists. The author of two wedding planning tips books and a supporter of local talent, everything he does is in service of creativity. Jason tells Ashley what it was like growing up in Ashtabula, Ohio, and why it ultimately wasn’t for him. He opens up about the tragic death of his father at a young age and how it’s impacted him long term. He pulls back the curtain on his time as a Marine and his he subsequently moved to Toledo. He shares what drew him to the Glass City and why he loves it so much. He breaks down his decision to leave the corporate world and why being a dishwasher at a local pizzeria was the best job he’s ever had. He gushes about his wife and how they became business partners. He takes us on a journey through his rap career and the doors that it opened and how it fueled the career trajectory that he loves. Tom Clawson has lived in Toledo since the early 80’s. He’s led a very interesting life that’s included hitchhiking cross-country and working on a Texas shrimp boat. He is a singer/songwriter and the front man for the Blues Rock band, Buck69, and he runs a Facebook group called, “Playing Tonight in Toledo”, that offers a platform for local musicians to advertise their gigs. If you’re a repeat watcher or listener of the podcast, you’re already familiar with his work because you hear it at the beginning and end of each episode.
Yes, Glass City humans, he’s the writer and performer of our intro/outro song, “I Am Toledo”. Tom tells Ashley what it was like growing up in Warren, Ohio, and what led him to head out on the road at the age of 16. He shares the ups and downs of hitchhiking across the country in the 70s and all of the adventures that he experienced. Tom and Ashley talk about processing life through songwriting and what it means to write for yourself. He shares why Toledo is a great place to be a musician, and why he wanted to create an online platform for the music community. As a perfect ending note to the conversation, Tom and Ashley talk about how he came to write the song that’s become synonymous with the podcast. We definitely confirmed that Tom doesn’t realize how cool he really is.

Dr. Deitra Hickey worked for Toledo Public Schools for 17 years. She is now the owner of Serenity Health & Wellness Center and Serenity Nail Salon & Spa in Maumee. Dr. Hickey is a motivational speaker who presents all over the United States and internationally, even as far as Austria and Germany. She has authored three books, and for the last seven years, she’s had a weekly segment on 93.5 WRQN called, “Life Coach Tuesdays with Dr. D”. Deitra dealt with significant adversity in her childhood, and now she dedicates her life to helping others overcome their obstacles and reach their maximum personal and professional potential. Deitra talks with Ashley about the exciting changes that are happening in Toledo and the improvements that she’s witnessed over the years. She shares about the extreme adversity that she experienced as a child and how she processed and overcame the circumstances. Deitra shares about her time in Toledo Public Schools and how her time there influenced her decision to obtain a degree in school psychology. She shares what led her to open Serenity Health & Wellness Center and the positive impact that it’s had on the community. He is an avid health and fitness enthusiast and proponent of mental health, and his drive and hunger to learn has helped him to navigate the personal tragedies that he’s experienced. Tyler talks with Ashley about his initial deep dive into spirituality and how he found and fell in love with health and fitness. Tyler opens up about one of the most traumatic experiences of his life and how it led him to no longer identify as spiritual. He also talks about what it’s meant to him to have his best friend (our podcast producer/videographer), Tiernen, there to support him through his healing journey. He shares why therapy has been an eye-opening experience, and he and Ashley talk about the dangers of the comparison game. Tyler opens up about his entrance into learning about producing and the events that led him there. He shares what inspires him to create, and he talks about how he found photography and videography. Steve Kiessling is a self-described lifelong nonprofit guy that has lived in the Glass City area since the late 90s. The former Executive Director of Nature’s Nursery, he is currently the director of Toledo Animal Rescue helping to care for and provide shelter for homeless and abandoned dogs and cats. He’s lived an interesting life that has taken him all over the country, and he’s an excellent storyteller. Steve talks with Ashley about what it was like growing up in a Philly suburb and his journey to the University of Virginia where he flexed his athletic muscles. He shares what it was like to see the birth of Dave Matthews’ career firsthand. Steve talks about his wife Krista and the interesting and well-traveled start to their relationship. He talks about his history in the nonprofit sector and what it’s been like to be the director of Toledo Animal Rescue. Steve speaks candidly about his mental health and how instrumental his wife has been in helping him to stay on track. He brags about his daughters and elaborates on the four pillars of importance for his family- music, plants, pets, and food. Jeff Stewart is a Toledo native and full time recording and visual artist. His name is synonymous with the Glass City original music scene, and one of our recent guests described him as a true renaissance man. His songs have been placed in several films throughout the years, including his song, “Tonight, I Got You”- which was featured in the 2020 major motion picture “Triumph”. Beyond Jeff’s outstanding artistic abilities, he is known for being one of the nicest guys that you will ever meet.

Ryan Roth is a multi-faceted artist and musician. He is a proud and devoted Father, a talented singer/songwriter, painter, sculptor, carver, and food artist. He is also a theological, philosophical, agnostic, mystic and just happens to be one of the humblest individuals on the planet. Ryan talks with Ashley about what it’s like to be the father of an awesome trans child and how he coped with his youngest’s harrowing birth. He breaks down his creative process as a sculptor and explained how even his ice sculptures have a sense of permanence. Ryan delves into his spiritual journey and what made him decide to leave the pulpit. He gives us the scoop on the birth of the Sideshow and why this project means so much to him. Ryan also dove deep as he and Ashley talked about why he is a great example of healthy masculinity and how he grew out of toxic patterns. Ashley shone a light on Ryan’s extreme humility and the incredible story of the mutual respect and affection shared between Ryan and our very first guest, Big C. She attended IMTA (International Modeling and Talent Association), in Los Angeles, where she won “Songwriter of the Year” and 1st runner up “Singer of the Year” in 2020. She has overcome a variety of significant obstacles in her young life and is very open about her mental health journey. Ella talks with Ashley about how she fell in love with singing. She detailed out what is was like navigating middle school and high school while experiencing extreme bullying and the demands of being a creative “triple threat”. She also shared the excitement of attending IMTA winning “Songwriter of the Year”. Ella shed light about why she has temporarily stepped out of the spotlight and how therapy saved her life. We also learned that she is wise beyond her years, and her mom is her best friend.
