Talking Over Toffee ft Doug Simons

Talking Over Toffee ft Doug Simons

Doug Simons represents the third-generation of Enstrom’s Colorado-based, family-owned business. Having worked part time at Enstrom’s while attending Mesa College in the mid 70’s, Simons first exposure to the industry was mucking-out butter fat that had been tracked into the freezers. He later married Jamee Enstrom and joined the business full time in 1979. Doug spent his formative years in the confectionery industry learning the art of candy making under the watchful tutelage of his father-in-law, Emil Enstrom and company founder, Chet Enstrom.

He then worked his way through every aspect of the business, was named president of the company in 1986 and purchased the business in 1993.  Simons was also the first in the family to have any formal confectionery training attending the Retail Confectioners International (RCI)’s Candy School in 1982.

Simons is credited with turning a “Mom and Pop” business into a competitive, high-quality producer of confections.  Under his leadership, two plant expansions have been constructed and he has brought innovation through technological advancements to both mail-order and manufacturing.  His quest for innovation eventually lead to the development of cutting-edge machinery to allow for continuous-production of Enstrom’s premiere product, World-Famous Almond Toffee.

Nottingham Ranch ft Susan Nottingham

Nottingham Ranch ft Susan Nottingham

Susan's family settled in Avon in the early 1880's.  They farmed and ranched there until development of the ski areas put an end to ranching there in the 1980's.  Her and her family moved their ranching operation to Burns (still in Eagle County) in 1982 and they are still raising cattle there. She continues to work and live on the ranch with her mother to this day.

The World Is Yours ft Kate Caldecourt

The World Is Yours ft Kate Caldecourt

An Irish girl living in Colorado, Kate moved for work and stayed for love. Two options were presented to her - Hong Kong or Colorado. She chose Colorado and made one of the best decisions of my life. She traveled a lot for work managing global strategic planning processes across EMEA, APAC and the Americas. Travel and seeing new cultures is one of her greatest passions. Kate and her husband were lucky enough to fulfill a lifelong dream and got to travel the world together for a year.

She comes from a line of entrepreneurs and started her own business in 2018 called "The Strategy Architect". Growing up in the family business she learned at a young age the highs and lows of owning your own business and wanted to dedicate her time to helping other organizations thrive both in the for-profit and not-for profit sectors.

The War on Hatred ft Romain Vakilitabar

The War on Hatred ft Romain Vakilitabar

Romain Sepehr Vakilitabar is the founder of Pathos Labs, a non-profit laboratory focused on finding ways that media, technology, and entertainment can most effectively dismantle hatred, and create understanding and compassion across lines of difference. One such project is PopShift - which brings together Hollywood’s leading showrunners and TV writers with some of the country’s leading equity experts to imagine how entertainment can be in service of pluralism, equity, and liberation.

Whether traveling between Palestine and Israel to better understand emotional relationships to the long-lasting conflict, spending weeks voluntarily homeless to empathize with the idea of "absolute need", hitchhiking thousands of miles to test the generosity of strangers, or living with conservative rural farmers in Oklahoma to better understand cultural conservatism, Romain has found that people, no matter the differences, are more alike than they imagine. Pathos Labs was born to prove it, by using the arts to dismantle systemic "othering".

Romain was awarded the "Erase the Hate" fellowship from NBCUniversal in 2018 for his efforts to eradicate hatred in America, he is a Fellow at Stanford University, he spoke at one of the world's biggest TEDx events, has been featured in Forbes, the bestselling books 2 Billion Under 20, and Compassionate Careers, and in academic journals such as UC Berkeley's Othering and Belonging.

Battle Women Stand Up ft Rachel Mahloch

Battle Women Stand Up ft Rachel Mahloch

Rachel Mahloch, AKA Battle Mom®, has a diverse background that has allowed her to create a comprehensive self-defense training style that is uniquely her own.  Exclusively for women, the Battle Woman® program incorporates valuable skills learned in her music and finance careers with her extensive martial arts training.

Unlike other self-defense experts, Rachel incorporates the integrated practice of both internal and external skill development to help women grow both their mental and physical strength.  Internal skills develop breath control and self-awareness. Learning how to stay calm under extreme conditions keeps the anti-panic response from controlling a situation. External skills involve physical fitness and technical skill development.   By simulating uncomfortable scenarios and learning how to react appropriately if, or when needed without conscious thought, and using visualization meditation to see a successful escape to safety provides positive reinforcement and builds confidence.

Puppies in School ft John Gray & Rex

John Gray is a School Resource Officer Deputy and handler of Arapahoe County's newest and cuddliest member, Rex, a 10-week old black lab. Rex was brought into the police force to help accustom members of society to the police force and members of law enforcement.
“Mental health is an ongoing concern, particularly with our youth. There is a chemical change in the brain that reduces the stress when people pet and interact with a dog,” says Deputy John Gray. “We hope that Rex will help students feel comfortable and safe in school and bring a smile to their faces.”
Deputy Gray has been with the sheriff’s office for 11 years and assigned to the SRO unit for six years. He’s currently assigned to elementary schools. He is also a member of the SWAT Negotiation Team and works with citizens in crisis. He enjoys teaching about school safety, internet safety, and mentoring students of all ages. He’s looking forward to incorporating Rex into many new and exciting programs for LPS schools.

The Heart of Alamosa ft Mayor Ty Coleman

The Heart of Alamosa ft Mayor Ty Coleman

When Alamosa’s Mayor Ty Coleman was elected in November 2017, he hit the political ground running and it doesn’t appear he will be slowing down anytime soon.

Coleman’s active and dedicated participation with the business community, colleges, nonprofit organizations, governmental agencies, and schools throughout the San Luis Valley community has made him one of the most accessible and visible community political leaders.

On what people in the community have told him, Coleman stated, “I’ve been listening to the people in our community and they told me they want a mayor who is transparent in all actions. They want someone who listens more than they talk and who’s not afraid to ask tough questions. They want a mayor who has integrity, the courage to stand their ground for the best interest of the community, and a person who has the ability to effectively communicate with the residents. They want a leader that leads by example. Every day I strive to meet all of those requirements in my role as Mayor and I will continue to strive to meet those requirements daily!"

Where Water Flows Colorado Grows ft Darius Allen

Where Water Flows Colorado Grows ft Darius Allen

Darius Allen never envisioned spending more than a third of his life in public office. Born and raised in Indiana until “high school days”, Allen moved to Arizona where he met Judy, his wife. Judy had connections in Colorado, so they headed this way and liked what they saw, landing first in Ridgeway, where Judy taught school and Allen worked on a ranch, ultimately settling in Alamosa in 1977 where they “bought a little place.”

Allen shoed horses for a while and then went into the insurance business, building a clientele among other farmers and ranchers in the valley. Standing over six feet tall with a broad smile, an easy way of talking, and a firm handshake, Allen was a natural, and that was his occupation for twenty years.

Community and being “a part of what was going on” has always been important to him. One day, a local Republican named Paul Weaver approached him and suggested he run for county commissioner. “First time we talked, I said no,” Allen says. But when Weaver came back a second time, Allen listened.  “He said, ‘you’ve gotten to know so many people, and I like what you stand for.’ So…I said okay.  But I was only going to do it for four years.”

Babe Walls ft Alexandrea Pangburn

Babe Walls ft Alexandrea Pangburn

Originally from Lexington, Kentucky; Alexandrea (Alex) Pangburn moved to Golden, Colorado in September of 2017.  Alex graduated with an Animal Science degree from the University of Kentucky in 2010, but her commission art business didn’t really kick off until she was working at a veterinary clinic in Powell, Ohio. Her commission pet portraits grew and she was booking out almost an entire year in advance before she decided to close her books and focus on taking her art in a direction she wanted to go. Alex decided her business needed a name and decided to name it after the two animals that were her biggest inspiration; her dog Benson, and her horse Dude - hence B&D Pet Portraits.

When Alex moved to Golden, Colorado in 2017,  she started to work with the RiNo Art District. It was here she was able to tap into large-scale pieces and murals. Her first spray paint mural was during CRUSH Walls 2018 and has since painted over a dozen murals here in Colorado and one in Kentucky. Her passion for flora + fauna reigns in her work and she hopes to continue to bring light to species that people may or may not be able to see on such a large scale.  Please check out her passion project, Babe Walls at www.babewalls.com and visit follow them on Instagram @babewalls.
