Episode 25: Finding Oneself Through Sobriety, Witchcraft, and a Motorcycle, An Interview with Shelley Wells

Hello friends!

Ahhhh…. Is anyone else experiencing major shifts these days? Maybe it’s Spring… maybe it’s the light at the end of the tunnel… whatever it is.. There’s something in the air…. And it feels tangible, like a deep stirring within. I’m seeing the first buds and blossoms of spring blooming…. California’s Daylight Savings started on Sunday… change is in the air…

Which brings me to today’s guest. Elika and and I had a blast interviewing Shelley Wells, Licensed Esthetician and Owner of SAP Skin CAre & makeup artistry. Today’s episode takes a dive into the nature and essence of the wild feminine…  and we discover that when we aren’t afraid to sit with the most untame aspects of ourselves, we find the deepest authentic and sincere connection to self which in turn offers us healing as well as offers a multitude of worthwhile gifts and blessings that bring richness to our lives. Shelley is amazing… and her story is one that inspires us to pause… make space for all of ourselves… become our own best friend… and experience the abundance that flows in our lives when we love ourselves unconditionally… You’ll be glad you tuned in to today’s interview with Shelley on “Finding Oneself Through Sobriety, Witchcraft, and a Motorcycle.”

To learn more about or connect with Shelley Wells:

Shelley Wells is the Owner and Licensed Esthetician at SAP Skin Care & Makeup Artistry. She has been an Esthetician for over 5 years and started her own business shortly after she received her license.  Though she loves all things aesthetics, her passion lies in skin care. She was a waitress for about 15 years and wanted to start a career and make a change.  An opportunity presented itself for a receptionist position at Pure Makeup in Eureka. Shelley quickly fell In love with everything an Esthetician does, especially makeup and skin care. She had to work 3 part time jobs to get through school and pay rent and take care of her daughter but she was driven and desperately wanted this. She passed her exams and received her license in 2016 and soon after started her own business in a small room in the back of Siana Spa in Arcata. It was tough being on her own.

She had just opened a new location in Arcata when Covid hit and she had to close. She had been dreaming of creating her own skin care line and had an amazing formulator that she was working with and using her plant based formulas in her facials and on her own skin with amazing results. It is super important to Shelley that she promotes natural plant based products because so few of them out there are as natural as they advertise.

She loves natural plant-based ingredients and products. She wanted to create something that would spark a self care ritual that anyone can easily do at home while at the same time making sure it is safe and potent.

A fun fact is that Shelley rides a  motorcycle and joined an all women’s riding group called The Litas.  In the rare free time she has, she loves to take a bath, do tarot, and read a good book. She is currently reading The Mists of Avalon.

Episode 15: Preventative Health & Wellness, An interview with Dr. Elisa Peavey

Episode 15: Preventative Health & Wellness, An interview with Dr. Elisa Peavey

In today’s episode, we interview Preventative Family Physician, Dr. Elisa Peavy. We dive into holistic health and wellness and how our thoughts, beliefs, and habits contribute to our well being. We discuss the benefits and limits of our western medical system in treating the root causes of ailments, and why Dr. Elisa Peavy has shifted her focus to preventative medicine.

About Dr. Elisa Peavey:

Dr. Peavey is an Osteopathic Family Medicine Physician.  She graduated from medical school from AT Still University in Kirksville, MO in 2010 and graduated from her residency in 2013 from OSU in Tulsa, OK.  She recently left the current healthcare system because she felt we are missing and not truly treating the most important piece, that we are energy and emotional beings and as such should be treating this aspect of ourselves when treating ALL disease.  She has come to this realization through her own spiritual process and has learned the stark reality of this information through her own experiences both personally and professionally.

"The numbers of unhealthy patients that continue to worsen due to our fractured healthcare system is not only astounding but devastating to witness. I am passionate about helping others find true, authentic health.  I love watching others become empowered in their own health and learn that they have the knowing and the tools to heal.  I love learning, reading, being outdoors, camping, traveling, and enjoying incredible cuisine.  I also believe that laughing is some of the best medicine we have. So laugh often and laugh big.  Namaste!"

Episode 10: Health and Wellness Interview with Marina Sky

Episode 10: Health and Wellness Interview with Marina Sky

In this episode, Elika interviews Marina Shereshevsky, owner of HEAL, a holistic wellness center and spa in New Jersey. Marina is a Certified Functional Medicine Practitioner and Licensed Esthetician.

Now more than ever, it is important to prepare our bodies for what could be the next round of Covid-19. They discuss a woman’s body and the changes our bodies go through as we get older and how our skin and our gut is affected by what we choose to consume. Having strong immune systems and eating healthy meals is key.

They touched on what it has been like for Marina and her family coping and navigating through the pandemic. Marina shares her personal views on how she is handling her day-to-day routines as she and the rest of us continue to learn more about the Coronavirus.

More about Marina Sky:

After enjoying a highly successful professional corporate career as a Business Analyst for Fortune 500 companies, Marina switched fields in 2010 to pursue her true passion: Helping people look and feel their best.

Two game-changing events in Marina’s personal life upheld her long standing conviction that holistic wellness was the permanent direction she wanted to take her career. First, she was able to use holistic treatments and methodology to resolve her own digestive & skin issues, when visits to her doctor did not yield results.

Second, after her mother was diagnosed with Crohn’s disease, a doctor recommended a particularly aggressive treatment that set off alarm bells in her mind. Taking the matter into her own hands, Marina was able to apply treatments to help her mother avoid major surgery, and recover from illness without prescription medication. In describing the situation, Marina notes: “When you listen carefully to body symptoms, and take a deeper dive into the root cause of a problem, very often you find a viable solution that’s more effective than prescribed medicines.”

Episode 7: Back to School Series - Interview with Gretchen Miller

Episode 7: Back to School Series - Interview with Gretchen Miller

In today’s episode, Alegria interviews Gretchen Miller, a School Board Member and Parent in a small elementary school district in Humboldt County, Northern CA. They discuss the difficult decision-making process board members underwent in determining this fall’s covid-safe model for academics -- distance learning. And they get into the hurdles, challenges and inequities associated with this model in a rural setting where internet access is an issue for many families. They highlight some of the real-world skills students are gaining with the innovation required to get us through this pandemic as well as strategies and rituals families are implementing to engage students socially.

For reference, this episode was recorded the first week of September when many Northern California schools began. It’s been about a month and Alegria followed up with Gretchen to find out what’s changed as school has gotten underway. Her district has decided to continue the distance learning model through the end of the 2020 school semester. Some families continue to experience difficulties accessing the internet due to their rural, outlying residences, which remains a pain point in the inequities of the distance-learning model in the region. Many parents are eager for their students to return to in-classroom instruction, and the district is considering best and safe practices for implementation of classroom instruction, though this decision is yet to be determined. In regards to students with IEP’s or that require special learning accommodations, the district is working towards opening their campuses to these students, if even on a 1:1 basis; however they’ve not yet implemented this model.
