S9E5: Heaux Tales: Who Told Jazmine Sullivan to Tell the World Our Business?
WARNING: Explicit Content. Not suitable for sensitive ears or the faint of heart. We are talking about sex, vaginas, penises, etc. and use other colorful descriptors for our body parts. Now that we have warned you, lady, today Dr. Dom and Terri dive into Jazmine Sullivan’s new album...Heaux Tales. If you have not listened yet we suggest checking it out and then coming back to the episode. Or...you can play it as you listen to this episode. This entertaining and informative exploration of the album is sure to  bring up experiences familiar for you or someone you know. Thanks to Jazmine Sullivan for telling the world about our complex relationship with our bodies and sex. Quote of the Day: "The thing is, dudes can’t handle if a woman takes the same liberties as them especially with regards to sex. Like our society teaches men to be so wrapped up in themselves and their own conquests that they forget we’re sexual beings as well. Plus, their egos are often way too fragile to ever handle a woman who owns and has any real agency over her body. S8E2: All My Skinfolk Ain’t Kinfolk
Can Black people be racist? NO! However, Black people can be agents of white supremacy and anti-Black. Due to how we have been socialized chances are there are times when we may experience internalized racism. Throughout our socialization there have been systems in place to move us closer to whiteness and as a result, shunning people who do not align with white supremacist heterosexist classist patriarchal ideologies. While some of us have found ways to break free from some of these ideologies, others have doubled down in fully aligning with whiteness. Today, Dr. Dom and Terri discuss those who may look like us but are not for us. Quote of the Day: "Souls that inhabit white bodies can be allies and accomplices in the fight against oppression, in the same way that black folks can be agents and accomplices in promoting, promulgating and protecting white supremacy. As my grandmother once said, conjuring Zora Neale Hurston, “All your skin folk ain’t your kinfolk.” Meaning that you can inhabit a black body and be an agent of white supremacy." - Professor Lawrence Ware Questions that need answers: What do we do about skinfolk that ain’t our kinfolk? S5E10: Signs That You're The Toxic One in the Relationship

S5E5: Processing the Loss of Kobe Bryant and Grieving Those with Complicated Legacies
Lady, today we are diving into an important conversation about the complicated feelings of grief. While most of the conversation centers around hearing about the news about Kobe Bryant’s death, his daughter Gianna and the seven other people on the helicopter, Dom and Terri also have a larger conversation about the other thoughts and feelings that come up when someone dies. How do you respond or how are you supposed to feel when someone who assaulted you dies? How is the family supposed to feel? How are those who are aware of the situation supposed to feel? What will it do to their legacy? Do you forgive them? Do you protect them in their death? Listen in as Terri and Dom help us think through how to process our complex feelings of grief.    Quote of the Day: “It’s uncomfortable to raise the worst thing someone has ever done when that someone dies, and when they are beloved. And I suppose it matters that I write this as someone who thinks that very, very few of us are all good or all bad; few of us are saintly, even fewer irredeemable.  We can admire aspects of a person’s talent without erasing the ways in which they also did irreparable damage.  We can be horrified and angry by what someone did without writing them off as worthless, without seeing them go away — to jail, to the grave — and saying “good riddance.”  We can — we must — assess the ways in which the rich and famous are able to exploit our admiration of their talents to pound into the ground anyone who might threaten their fame and reputation, how they so often bypass accountability and we just let them because, well, they’re so talented, or so attractive, or their politics line up with ours, or they handle a ball so well.” - Jill Filipovic   Takeaways: Smudging Kits On Death and Dying book feel all the feelings...they are all valid be kind to yourself...no judgments step away from social media set boundaries with those around you to get what you need utilize resources like therapy Relevant episodes  S3E10: A Fresh Perspective on Death You Need to Hear Resources: Melanin and Mental Health Therapy for Black Girls  Psychology Today Therapy for QPOC   Where to find us: Twitter: @HERspacepodcast Instagram: @herspacepodcast Facebook: @herspacepodcast Website: herspacepodcast.com Email: herspacepodcast@gmail.com H.E.R Space Sanctuary: https://www.facebook.com/groups/herspacesanctuary/  See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.
