The 4 Pillars of Goal Achievement with Coach Mike Millner

The 4 Pillars of Goal Achievement with Coach Mike Millner

Today on Far From Perfect, I have for the second time Coach Mike Millner on what it takes to change. He owns Pop Nutrition and has a podcast called Mind Over Macros. We are going to dive into his 4 Pillars of Goal Achievement, which are

1. Physical

2. Willpower

3. iOS

4. Future Self

I recently heard Mike speak at a coaching event and this was by far my favorite one. I also believe that when someone has actually gone through all the things(chronic diet, body dysmorphia, orthorexia) you know they've done the work. We talk about both of our journeys and we go into detail about the 4 Pillars above. When it comes down to it, the nutrition and the working out are the easy part, its the mindset shift. When the conditions stay the same, but your behavior changes then there is progress! Celebrating when bad shit DOESN'T happen.

I think you guys are going to love this as much as I did. You can find Mike by listening to his podcast - Mind Over Macros(whatever platform you listen to your podcasts) and he's on instagram @coach_mike_millner

Why 1500 Calories Is Better Than 1200, But Still Not Enough

Why 1500 Calories Is Better Than 1200, But Still Not Enough

I cracked the code! I realized why so many women are eating 1500 calories and I'm spilling the beans.Yes, 1500 is better than 1200, but it's still not enough friends.

In this episode I cover:

What maintenance is and why it is so important to spend time eating at your maintenance level calories

Why you might *think* you're only eating 1200 or 1500 calories, but you're not.

What you need to do to actually maintain in maintenance.

Why I am prioritizing teaching about maintenance over perimenopause.

The Divisive Nature of Nutrition, Fitness and Health with Joe Eiben

The Divisive Nature of Nutrition, Fitness and Health with Joe Eiben

Today on the podcast I'm talking with my friend Joe Eiben, this is his fourth time on the podcast. We are talking about polarity in fitness and nutrition. I just love Joe and his perspective on all things. Joe is a Psychotherapist, Professional Coach, Holistic Nutritionist, Writer and yogi.

We dive into how our cultural is living with anxiety and overwhelm as a base and we can't exhale. We are at war from an internal and external standpoint and it's due to a lack of meaningful connection with others. We can't eliminate it, we have to figure out how to work around it. We have to have a lot of patience and grace with ourselves.

We talk about steps to help ourselves and the first is acceptance of yourself, second is to act like the person you want to be, and most importantly try not to over complicate things. This is an amazing conversation, Joe is so insightful and knowledgeable and I think you're going to love it and relate to it. When we know better, we can do better and embrace what we can control and have a say in.

If you want to work with Joe, the best place to do so is his website and you can find that HERE. (joeeiben.com)

Do I Have Gut Issues with Lisa Deluca

Do I Have Gut Issues with Lisa Deluca

Today on Far From Perfect we are talking to nutrition coach Lisa Deluca, who also happens to be a coach within Elemental Coaching, on what's the deal with gut health? How does it effect us as a whole. You don't know how good you can feel, until you do!! Lisa goes over the two ways to help/"fix' you gut; restoration or an elimination diet. Restoration is going to do an overall haul of your gut and require a stool sample. An elimination diet is a great place to start just to see how you feels. She tells us about Good bacteria(which should occupy about 80%) and Bad bacteria(which should occupy 20%). How most people have this reversed, so you can understand where the problem lies, when your rations are out of whack. She give us a few suggested supplements, with the advice of 'you get what you pay for'. Keeping in mind that a probiotic doesn't need to be refrigerated, but should be spore based.
Gut health and nutrition can go hand in hand, and while correcting your nutrition can move mountains, sometimes there are underlying issues that need to be addressed.

Hysterectomy Recovery & Women's Health with Dr. Jocelyn Wallace

Hysterectomy Recovery & Women's Health with Dr. Jocelyn Wallace

Jocelyn is a Doctor of Physical Therapy, pelvic floor specialist and Level 2 Crossfit Trainer. She specializes in helping women get back to fitness after a hysterectomy, myomectomy or endometriosis excision without pain, prolapse or peeing themselves. Jocelyn was inspired to do this work through her own experience with uterine fibroids. Having 3 open abdominal surgeries between 26 and 32 years old, she saw the lack of resources for women healing from these major operations. Women deserve better support.

Today we are discussing all the things you guys! We start off talking about hysterectomies, endometriosis, adenomyosis, what these are, and that having these surgeries doesn't mean you life is over, you can find a path back to life, lifting and all the things, and that's where Jocelyn comes in.

We also discuss prolapse, what It is, when it begins and what we can do about it. How and where hormone therapy fits in. To be clear hormone therapy can't work if you're not supporting yourself with adequate nutrition. Strength Training is the magic pill!!!

You can work with Dr. Jocelyn through her 90 day revival program for people who've had the above surgeries, you can also give her a follow on instagram @drjocelynwallace.

What It Really Takes to Change with Karin Nordin, PhD

What It Really Takes to Change with Karin Nordin, PhD

Today on Far From Perfect I am talking with Karin Nordin, who is a Behavior Change Expert. She has her PhD and is CEO of Body Brain Alliance. If you're like me you might recognize her from her work at Precision Nutrition. Karin's work focuses on two things, Helping people approach self help without self hate and helping people close the gap between knowing what to do and actually doing it. This is done by science! She talks to us about how your brain has no distinction between a small task and a HUGE one. We talk about how self help is divided into two polar categories; action focused and how to tap into your inner goddess. She talks to us about how to connect these two sides. We discuss Interbody brain alliance, time management(and what that really means). We also talk about Cognitive Flexibility and her Tips to boost productivity. We even dabble in ADHD. And wait for it...Committing to doing less!!! This is such an amazing conversation that you won't want to miss. Karin offers: Change Academy(which is a DIY), Alliance Coaching (1:1), Meaningful Mornings, and Compassionate Calendar. You can find Karin on instagram @karinnordinphd and her company @bodybrainalliance. This is the book she recommended: Essentialism: The Disciplined Pursuit of Less, by Greg McKeown.

More about Karin:

Karin is a loving dog mom, funfetti flavor super-fan, and self-help book encyclopedia… and she also happens to be a PhD expert in health behavior change and published mindset theory researcher. After graduating with her doctorate, Karin had a striking realization: The typical self-help and productivity approaches of the personal development industry were shockingly inconsistent with the actual research on change. That inconsistency became the fuel for her business Body Brain Alliance, where she’s on a mission to teach compassion-first change techniques that help dedicated self-improvers become their 2.0 selves.

As part of that mission, Body Brain Alliance provides programs for change enthusiasts, as well as high level education on curriculum design and coaching practices for impact-first entrepreneurs. To make it simple: We teach people to change, and we teach coaches how to teach people to change.

Is Competing Worth It with Coach Paul Campbell

Paul Campbell graduated with his Master’s Degree in Nutritional Sciences from the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point in 2012. Paul has co-authored studies outlining the effectiveness of chronic disease prevention through lifestyle modification and believes that evidence-based interventions are the key to sustainable behavior change. Paul has been a competitive, drug free bodybuilder for the past 15 years, earning his professional status in 2018. Paul is also an avid hunter, mountain biker, alpine skier and backpacker who understands the importance of resistance training and proper nutrition. Using evidence-based methods, he has worked with competitive bodybuilders, a wide range of strength and endurance athletes, as well as people looking to maintain fat loss and improve their quality of life.
.
In this episode of Far From Perfect I wanted Paul to give us insight into what it really takes to step on stage as a body building competitor. Whether that's as a female doing bikini or figure to a man doing classic physique and men's physique. We as lay people see these bodies on social media all the time and many think those bodies are #goals. Paul explains what it actually takes and if the sport is a good fit for you. There are definitely some trade-offs.
.
In addition to our bodybuilding chat, we talk a lot about purpose and values and living in alignment with who you truly want to be. Paul also had a few questions for me regarding the biggest obstacles in working with women and what it's like having such a large influence in my household.

We are talking about Body Dysmorphia and prioritizing yourself as a mother. First off you guys, this is just a conversation between two friends. Alejandra tells us about her background and how she got to where she is today in her life and work, which also happens to be fitness and nutrition coaching. She is mother to two young girls and she talks about navigating life with them and also finding the time to take care of herself and do the things that she needs to be and feel good. We chat a little bit about the book 'Conversations with God' which isn't a religious book per say and something I'm reading right now. Alejandra and her husband James used it in writing their vows and she says that the book presented in a way that allowed her to be more spiritual. We talk about a fear based approach as it relates to working out, eating, and how you may see yourself and rather then using that...pick an approach from a place of LOVE! We discuss how important it is to rest and what that means and how we understand how difficult it can be, but we also know how important it truly is! We get into ways to debunk body dysmorphia, such as removing exposure to things that might 'trigger' you, such as social media and giving yourself some self-care which can look different for everyone. Please join us in this conversation and give it a listen.

Relationship School with Jayson Gaddis

Today on Far From Perfect I have Jayson Gaddis with me who is a relationship expert, executive coach, author and founder of Relationship
School.  We are talking about...you guessed it relationships! Jayson got his start in this field due to a relationship failure. He talks about two paths in a relationship, which are 'to inspire them' and 'to move on'. He doesn't recommend entering a relationship with the intent/want to change someone. 44 Lessons for 44 Years

44 Lessons for 44 Years

A special birthday episode by your's truly. A few recurring themes from my life. Thank you for being here and letting me share my thoughts with you.

  1. You don’t have to grow up.
  2. Sometimes the people who love you the most don’t support your dreams because they just want you to be safe.
  3. Changing your mind isn’t quitting.
  4. It starts with one.
  5. Hard work done consistently will get you farther than you ever imagined.
  6. Success is simply a matter of just staying in the game.
  7. Growing stronger feels better than suffering to be smaller.
  8. Nobody is special. Even the most successful people are just normal people.
  9. You can do things your way. Not the way they are “supposed” to be done.
  10. Everything is worse is your head.
  11. Start before you’re ready.
  12. No one has it easy, no matter what you think.
  13. All of us just want to be seen and loved unconditionally.
  14. The slow way is the fast way.
  15. Done is better than perfect.
  16. You’re the only one who can create the life you want.
  17. Energy is everything. Protect and recharge yours at all costs.
  18. You don’t have to be miserable to want something more or different.
  19. No one knows what they are doing…trust me.
  20. There’s a big difference between alone and lonely.
  21. You can make yourself believe anything, choose wisely.
  22. There’s no timeline for your life.
  23. You can decide who you want to be.
  24. Good things take time.
  25. Under-promise, over deliver.
  26. You have to do something to get something. You can’t just want it.
  27. Life really starts at 40.
  28. Nostalgia is a lie.
  29. It might be someone else’s fault, but it’s your responsibility fix it.
  30. If you don’t do anything about “it”, your forfeit the right to complain about it.
  31. There’s no such thing as the perfect plan. Be flexible.
  32. Treading water is hard, but better than drowning.
  33. Maintenance is progress.
  34. There’s nothing wrong with me…or you.
  35. You don’t have to make your bed.
  36. The worst case scenario hardly ever happens.
  37. You’ll never regret working on yourself.
  38. Bad times don’t last forever, neither do the good times.
  39. The right way isn’t usually the easy or quick way.
  40. No one is thinking about you as much as you are worried about them thinking about you.
  41. You can fake perfection, but you can’t fake real.
  42. Most people are addicted to a life they don’t even like.
  43. Start by getting clear on what you DON’T want.
  44. After every level, is another level. So chill and enjoy where you are.

What To Eat Pre and Post Workout

What To Eat Pre and Post Workout

Every time I make a reel on Instagram about why I would never train fasted, I get all kinds of questions about what to eat prior to training. In this episode I explain why you need to eat before you train and what you can eat depending on how much time you have between that meal and your training session.
I also give you some easy examples of what to eat before and after your training sessions to make sure you are getting the most out of your training.
If you want more information on this subject, this is something we talk extensively about in the Lift to Get Lean and LTGL-REVIVE programs. I know it's a foreign concepts for a lot of people, especially if you train first thing in the morning. But I promise, you'll love how you feel once you start training in a fed state.

We also break down keto and fasting and what it's actually doing to our bodies and here's a secret it's nothing good! She tells us what she thinks is one of the most important lessons for women in this next part of life. Believe me when I say you're going to want to tune in so you can not only be more educated but also a safe space to know that what you're currently going through is normal and you're not alone.

Dr. Jenn Salib Huber is a Canadian Registered Dietitian, Naturopathic Doctor and Intuitive Eating Coach and she's on a mission to help women thrive in midlife.

She helps women navigate the physical and emotional changes that happen in perimenopause and menopause, including their search for food freedom and body confidence. Working from a health at every size approach, she teaches women to become intuitive eaters and build body confidence at any stage of midlife.

In addition to her 1:1 and group programs, she's the host of 'The Midlife Feast' podcast and community that helps women "undiet" their lives after 40 so they can nourish a relationship with food that helps them discover the magic of midlife!
