June 19, 2022 - Better Than Angels // Hebrews 1:5-14
After the strong introduction to the book, the author takes a step past the prophets and tells his readers that Jesus is better than the angels! To understand this better, we dive in to look at what the angels are and why Jesus is better. -- New to Heritage? Want to get more involved? Looking for a Group or Ministry Team? August 1, 2021 - Experiencing Grace // Jonah 2
As we find Jonah in the belly of the great fish, how does he respond to his time of distress? He's come to the end of his rope and realizes that escape is not an option when it comes to the God who made both the land and the sea. Whether he wants it or not, Jonah comes face to face with an unlikely embodiment of the grace of God. Jacob Revels brings the message. -- New to Heritage? Want to get more involved? July 25, 2021 - Escaping Grace // Jonah 1
This may come as a surprise, but the story of Jonah is NOT about the whale. Instead, we find the running prophet serves as a picture of how we often respond to God. As we step into the first chapter of the book of Jonah, let's not be too hard on Jonah without taking a moment to consider where we are more like him than we'd care to admit. -- New to Heritage? July 18, 2021 - The Church That Says Yes to Prayer // Matthew 6:5-15
While the best way to learn to pray is to pray. As we pray, how are we called to go about it and what should we pray about? And really, what is prayer? What we find from Jesus' words is that prayer is possibly the best way that we can express our dependence on God and be reminded of how He works in the world! July 11, 2021 - The Church That Says Yes to Discipleship // Luke 14:25-35
What was the goal of the New Testament church? The answer is to make disciples. So what did Jesus mean when He called men and women to follow Him? He answers this question in Luke 14 by giving some specific things that a disciple must not do if they are to follow Him. Disagreements aren't new. So how do we handle it when they arise within the context of the church? The answer is in Christian liberty. In this message, we explore how Paul handled conflict between members of the church that came from different backgrounds with different standards for living that aren't clearly given in the Bible.
