Do you have a sports bucket list? Could you imagine trying to cross off everything in say a single year? How about attending a sporting event every day for a year?
Your answers probably went from yes to no rather quickly, but Jamie Reidy attempted to do just this (keyword: attempted). Jamie joins the podcast to talk about his book Need One! and the various sporting events that he saw along the way--from tailgating in the grove, to hitting a local bowling league.
After the interview, I discuss a bit of what would make up my Sports Year and how Jamie's journey reminded me of what is by far my favorite thing about sports: the people.
If you'd like to read about Jamie's incredible and ridiculous journey, head over here and purchase Need One!
On the heels of Notre Dame getting one of their biggest commitments in years, we decided to do a podcast that has absolutely nothing to do with football.
It's the offseason and we have Game of Thrones thoughts that we are itching to get out. Come join us as we...uh, bid farewall to our watch. Yeah, let's go with that.
With the annual Blue/Gold game on Saturday, Shane and I felt it was a perfect excuse to pull out the 'ol NCAA '14 sim once again. Let me tell ya, it did not disappoint.
The most accurate prediction method in college football returns to entertain and terrify you into a world of possibilities best described as Pandora's Box.
Also in the show, The Shirt returns to a Blue-Grey Sky, but mostly grey and a preview of the #BKHomeboyMadness Championship.
Yes, the Madness is back. No, not March Madness, but #HLSRecapMadness. This time, we are going full #BKHomeboy style. 64 of the best #BKHomeboy photoshops will duke it out for internet glory.
Shane, Garrett, and I have our own Selection Sunday and reveal the field of 64 and break down each entry with the hard-hitting analysis that only we can deliver.
Voting is now live. Vote early. Vote often.
Yes, this might just be the dumbest thing that we've ever done, but you can't spell "dumbest" without best. Therefore, the best thing that we've ever done.
With another signing period officially in the books, Shane and I enlist an actual recruiting analyst, Kevin Sinclair of Irish Illustrated, to join us on the podcast. Kevin helped break down the class as well as some of the major storylines in this cycle--including something about vultures and Huskies.
Or maybe that was Asa Turner just trying to figure out his future as he said in his own words. I donno, crootin' is weird and people get mad.
So come join us on a fun episode looking into the future of our beloved Irish and try and pretend that football hasn't left us.
In this podcast, we get back to our roots: a complete technological mess. Thankfully the podcast audio went off without an issue because the Twitch live stream and the backup recording somehow failed.
Honestly, the season can now truly end in appropriate fashion.
We laugh at Michigan. We laugh at Southern Cal. We laugh at AP voters. We laugh at Bama.
Come join us for some last moments of college football before it fades away.
By popular demand, we bring to you virtual Dabo and virtual Saban locking horns in NCAA '14 for our national title preview. There is a bit of Notre Dame in this show as well as we recap recent departures (up to the time of recording on Friday) and I have a little bit of a rant in response to some of the initial fallout of the Cotton Bowl Loss.
All good things must come to an end, and much like Notre Dame's perfect season, it's time to bid farewell to the picks pod.
But before Eddie and I head into that long, cold offseason, we go over the futures picks from the beginning of the year as well as picking Bama and Clemson. There's a tussle at the top, so make sure to get your picks in at herloyalsons.com/pickem and close out strong.
We hope you had the time of your life, y'all. Go Irish, #HAILGAMBLOR.
Yes, the Cotton Bowl was awful. Shane and I dive into the mess with a very active chat.
However the highlight, in my opinion at least, was absolutely the interviews that I conducted during the HLS tailgate. Jessica Smetana from Sports Illustrated, and former ND O-linemen, and current ESPN personality, Mike Golic Jr. take top billing. However, don't sleep on an ND fan attending his first game, the HLS OGs, NDEddieMac, and some of my fellow Otters.
The New Year's Six is finally upon us. This means that it's time to round out the bowl picks, and finally talk some Notre Dame vs Clemson in the Cotton Bowl.
Make sure to join in on the fun via herloyalsons.com/pickem for your chance at some free HLS swag. Enjoy the show. Go Irish. #HAILGAMBLOR
It's been far too long since we've been able to deliver the most accurate of all college football preview methods: The NCAA '14 Sim.
Shane and I took advantage of an unexpected bowl cancellation to deliver a sim of Notre Dame vs Clemson in the Cotton Bowl. Did this turn into a complete disaster or has virtual BK used the break to finally coach normally?
...if you've seen or heard any of these sims, you already know the answer. However, I can promise that this sim absolutely delivers on every entertainment level!
The podcast may be a day late, but damn near everyone is .500 or above, so we're definitely not a dollar short!
Make sure to join in on the fun via herloyalsons.com/pickem to have your chance at a free piece of merch from the HLS store. Only eight games are down and going on heater can easily win this thing. Oh, and we have all the bowl games available to pick because we know the holidays are here.
We cover all the bowl games up to Thursday, December 27 in this episode, so make sure you join us again live over at twitch.tv/herloyalsons at 9:00 p.m. CT/10:00 p.m. ET next week for the remaining bowl picks.
The HLS Bowl Pick 'Em has returned!
Apologies for the delay, but Yahoo decided to can their pick 'em game so I had to create one from scratch. That, plus being in home repair/renovation hell caused this to be delayed. But no matter, Eddie and I are here for the first week of glorious bowl picks and you can join in on the fun at herloyalsons.com/pickem as always.
This time, it's winner-take-all in the bowl season for a piece of merch from the HLS Store.
So come join us in the picks because, before you know it, the games will be gone.
We knew it would happen last week, but now it's officially official. Notre Dame is in the playoffs and, years later, will have their chance to avenge a loss to Clemson on a gigantic stage.
Thankfully, no hurricanes will be involved this time.
Shane and I give our initial reactions to the news as well as a quick recap of the conference championship games around college football.
It's time to enjoy the best kind of bye week. While we kick back and have Thanksgiving round two with cheeseburgers, it's time to watch everyone else sweat it out to play in their conference's cash grabs--I mean, conference title games.
Eddie and I pick every single one from the Sun Belt to the SEC. Oh, and by the way, only a single game separates Eddie and I in our Extra Life donation bet.
To quote Eddie, let's goooooooo baby!
The title says it all.
The recap of the world of college football focuses in on the playoff picture as Notre Dame has practically punched their own ticket. Plus, we take a look into Notre Dame capping off their perfect season against Southern Cal and how they overcame a sluggish first half.
It's time to enjoy the ultimate bye week while everyone else plays in a conference title game that doesn't really matter. Start your cheeseburger party with us.
Happy Turkey Day, y'all!
Here at HLS, I know what you really need to get through your turkey-induced naps and that uncomfortable moment when your uncle decides it's time to start talking politics: degenerate gambling picks.
Fresh off my Vegas trip, we bring you the glory that is rivalry week with 14 (!!) games. Be sure to join in on the fun at herloyalsons.com/pickem for your chance at free HLS swag.
With the combination of a long weekend in Vegas and the Thanksgiving holidays, we figured it would make a lot more sense to just cook up one big 'ol feast of an episode. We have the recap of week 12, Notre Dame's victory over Syracuse, and of course the ever-popular NCAA sim between Notre Dame and Southern Cal.
Enjoy the holidays and this perfect excuse to escape from your family and/or drown out the eventual and uncomfortable politics discussion at the dinner table.
Between damn near every team in college football trying to take a week off with a terrible matchup and Notre Dame/Syracuse trying to blind us all with poor uniform choices, week 12 will likely not be a treat for the eyes.
However, college football is college football and we will miss it dearly when it is gone. And so we press on, eager for another Saturday and another NCAA Sim which may also make you blind.
This weekend, I will kneeling at the altar of GAMBLOR in Las Vegas. I can think of no better way to prepare than with another round of picks with Eddie. Sure, the national slate for this week is meh, but when you are a degenerate, there are no weeks off.
Don't forget to join in on the fun by visiting herloyalsons.com/pickem.
Week 11 was a week of chalk around college football, but there's still lots to cover as the conference and playoff pictures continue to come into focus.
Of course, we also talk a lot of Notre Dame crushing Florida Sate as we wonder if we can can put the "green jersey curse" to rest and...should we start talking more about comparisons to Clemson rather than Michigan?
The Irish are now #3 in the nation, controlling their own playoff destiny. With week 11 bringing interesting, yet not-quite-overly-epic matchups, the Notre Dame hosts hapless Florida State in the blistering cold on Senior Day.
As we do every week, we use the most accurate preview method in all of college football, NCAA '14, to sim this home finale.
Senior day. Snow. Green jerseys. Brandon Wimbush.
What could possibly go wrong?
The end is near. Well, at least the home season for the Irish is.
Week 11 is full of loads of interesting games that could shake up the playoff and conference championship picture. Eddie and I do our level best to find the best twelve to pick as November rolls on.
Don't forget to head over to herloyalsons.com/pickem to come join in on the fun!
With week 10 now in the books, the majority of the playoff picture is coming into focus. Unless you are in the Pac 12 or Big 12, in which case, things are still insane.
Speaking of, anyone want to win the Pac 12 South? How about the ACC Coastal?
Meanwhile, Notre Dame, even after a terrible Navy-hangover of a first half, dispatches Northwestern by seven more points than some other school up north while never trailing.
It was a big week of football and there's lot to talk about. Come join us!
Yes, I'm aware Northwestern is in Evanston and Notre Dame is in South Bend, but like a ND band director, I'm going to shoehorn Chicago in here. There's a ton of news (hi, Maryland!) and playoff-picture worthy games to discuss.
Oh, and of course, the most accurate preview method in all of sports: the NCAA sim between Notre Dame and Northwestern.
Notre Dame is in the playoff hunt and week 10 looks to be the start of a major shakeup within the playoff rankings. Join Eddie and Ryan as they try to continue their winning ways on another twelve-pack of games.
Shane dubbed this week "Shit the Bed Saturday" and if you were a top 25 team on the road, you likely did. Lots of upsets to discuss plus Notre Dame's blowout win over Navy. Went a little bit longer in this one talking about the future of the ND/Navy series as well as the upcoming initial college football playoff rankings.
The bye week is done and Notre Dame football is back and that means it's time for the most accurate prediction and preview method in sports today: the NCAA sim. Yes, folks, the sim is back as are Shane and Ryan as they preview a week in college football that could get a little spooky.
It's hilarious that a week in which a top-five team goes and another top-25 is upset is a little boring in comparison to last week. Such is college football in which the "boring" is still awesome.
Come check out the recap of the major headlines around college football while Notre Dame feasted on cheeseburgers.
The bye week insanity is back and in place once again. The Elite makes its evolution into the Golden Elite for a very special bye week episode that covers...well, whatever we all felt like.
Winning is hard. This week, that was all too true as multiple teams in the top ten teams tasted defeat this week. Join Shane and Ryan as they examine the bodies and talk about Notre Dame surviving a similar fate against Pitt.
What could possibly ruin a wonderful season of Notre Dame football? Perhaps a game against Pittsburgh who always seems to play spoiler. Or maybe it's an internet rumor running wild.
Well, both of those are on the table this week in the midst of an impressive slate of college football games.
Week 6 was an absolute bloodbath for everyone involved. Bad beats were everywhere, but sometimes you have to make a sacrifice to GAMBLOR and keep going.
We're back for 13 more picks in week 7. Come join the fun by heading to herloyalsons.com/pickem. Get a perfect week, get free swag (releasing after the bye week--I hope...).
$100 Bet For the Kids
Eddie: 4-9Ryan: 3-10
In a week in which multiple top ten teams fell, Notre Dame came into Blacksburg and silenced Lane Stadium in a very convincing 45-23 win. Shane and Ryan bask in the morning glory of another victory as well as breaking down where other top teams around the nation stumbled.
Once again, the Irish are under the lights in a nationally televised game. The last time this happened, things did not end well. But will Blacksburg be different than South Beach? Come find out with the most unique and most accurate preview method on the internet: the NCAA '14 sim.
Eddie and Ryan are back with your weekly college football picks. This week we are coming out with a lucky thirteen games, including Notre Dame's visit to Lane Stadium against Virignia Tech.
Plus, it wouldn't truly be a season without Eddie and Ryan having some kind of head-to-head wager. This time, the wager is unique and there probably really isn't a loser in this one.
Be sure to join in on the fun via herloyalsons.com/pickem. Slowly but surely the released standings are becoming more robust as well, so be sure to check out herloyalsons.com for the latest!
Notre Dame's victory over Stanford was the very definition of a statement win. Shane and Ryan recap the week that was in college football with a focused discussion on the utter domination in South Bend and how things currently are laid out for the Irish for--dare we say--a playoff run?!
Week 4 was the classic, under-the-radar choas week, but week 5 is chock full of top 25 on top 25 violence with two top ten matchups to boot. Oh, and Notre Dame just happens to be one of them.
Come check out the picks and be sure to join the fun at herloyalsons.com/pickem
Repeat after me: there is never a boring college football week. Notre Dame promotes QB2 to QB1, effectively throwing the Book at Wake Forest on the road. Upsets were the name of the game around the top 25. Teams blew leads. Teams made stupid mistakes. This week had everything.
Yes, the week 4 slate isn't one that just jumps out on paper, but it's still college football and there are still some great games going on around the nation. As for Notre Dame...is that Ian Book's music?!
Yes, the week four slate isn't great on paper, but we've all learned our lesson by now that we shouldn't sleep on these games, right?! Join Eddie and Tex for a full slate of picks and join in on the fun at herloyalsons.com/pickem and get a chance to win some (soon to be released) HLS swag!
We're probably going to sound like a repeat of The Rakes Report, but that's not just the theme for Notre Dame, but college football as a whole. Join us as we take a look at the biggest storylines from around college football and our breakdown of Notre Dame vs Vanderbilt.
Episode artwork courtesy of NDMSPaint who whipped this up during our recording.
Come join Shane and Ryan in their weekly preview of the college football world plus a sim of Notre Dame vs. Vanderbilt that can only be described as all too real.
The only safe bet this week this week is that a lot of games will be cancelled or greatly affected by storms (stay safe out there, y'all). For everything else, Eddie and Ryan are here to deliver the picks.
Notre Dame may be 2-0 and still #8 in both polls, but week 2 is something all Irish fans would rather forget. So after you finish listening to this show, be aware we will never speak of this again. Some other college football happened too. That was more fun to talk about.
There's loads of podcasts out there, many of which are saying roughly the same thing in their previews. So Shane and Ryan decided to take a little bit different route this year. After covering the latest headlines and games on their radar, they turn their attention to Notre Dame vs. Ball State via the magic of updated 2018 rosters on NCAA '14. If it's in the game, it's in the game...including far too many passes in the rain...
If you want to check out the video, be sure to head over to twitch.tv/herloyalsons.
Come step into the HLS Sports Book as Eddie and Ryan pick another slate of games for week 2. Come join in on the fun at herloyalsons.com/pickem. There will be prizes...they are TBD, but there will be prizes.
Also, be sure to join us live and see the degeneracy unfold in video over at twitch.tv/herloyalsons.
To be honest, there's very little talk of the rest of the world of college football in this one. The combination of a rather calm week one slate and BEATING MICHIGAN, means we get through the big headlines quick and get to the pure joy of Notre Dame's victory.
Podcasting is always more fun like this. Come along for the ride and be sure to check out the video version at https://www.twitch.tv/videos/305684399 and give us a follow while you're there.
Ryan may be playing hurt and coughing up a lung but that doesn't stop him and Shane from bringing you the latest headlines heading into the 2018 college football season. Week one may be a little light, but we welcome football back with open arms. Oh, and Notre Dame has a big game as well.
Catch the video version of the show over at: https://www.twitch.tv/videos/303589538
Y'all, actual football is happening tomorrow so Eddie and Ryan step into the HLS Sports Book to throw out some futures predictions for conference champions, Notre Dame's win total, Heisman Winner, Playoffs, National Champion, and Week 0 picks because degeneracy can't stop and won't stop.
Catch the video version of this on Twitch! https://www.twitch.tv/videos/300752734
Are you starving for football, we're definitely starving for football. Ryan dusted off his old copy of NCAA '14, downloaded some updated rosters, turned the game commentary down to zero and takes over with Shane. If it's in the game, it's in the game...including every bit of Irish angst that you'd expect. Want to see the video of the sim? Be sure to check out twitch.tv/herloyalsons and give us a follow while you're there!
Douglas Farmer from NBC's Inside the Irish joins Shane and Ryan to break down the annual ranking of the top 25 players on the Irish roster. HLS goes into detail with their picks and opinions as Douglas gives his insights on the collection of all polls received in the countdown.
We're back! After a long hiatus, Shane and Ryan return with Tyler James of ND Insider and the South Bend Tribune to talk ND Football as well as some of the wonderful things in the ND Insider Preview magazine (which you should absolutely buy). Plus, Shane and Ryan reveal an idea that's sure to get everyone ready for Notre Dame vs. Michigan under the lights.
It's been far too long so Shane and Ryan use the Blue/Gold scrimmage to get back in to the podcasting game while catching up on some major ND related news. Be sure to catch future live recordings on twitch.tv/herloyalsons!
Vacation is supposed to be that thing in which you get some quality R&R--unless you are the NCAA and that term means stripping wins for no damned good reason. Enough news happened since our last podcast, so here we all talking NCAA punishing ND for punishing their own as well some other headlines that caught our eye over the last month.
Oh, and we're going to start streaming this thing on Twitch as well. Head over to twitch.tv/herloyalsons and give us a follow if you like some visuals with your audio.
HLS trying new technology...what could possibly go wrong?!
Folks, the 2017 has officially concluded. In true fashion, the podcast is delayed a day which, of course, brings some of the worst possible news for Notre Dame fans. Plus, winners are announced for the HLS Pick 'Em. We will take a bit of a break after this episode--mostly to avoid bringing any further terrible news for at least a little while.
Podcasting is a fun medium; however, when using it to cover a sport that can go zero to stupid at the drop of the hat things get weird. With no plans to talk about Notre Dame at all in this episode, Shane and Ryan recorded early, blissfully unaware that Mike Elko would hold a job in College Station the following day. So, as sweet summer children, they do nothing but preview the National Championship between Georgia and Alabama (while attempting to crown UCF as CFB's true champion).
Through the magic of podcasting time travel, Eddie and Ryan are able to chat about the earth-shattering development that rocked Notre Dame fans by recording later after the news broke.
So...yeah, this episode is a little interesting and this is all either the result of Brian Kelly's halftime blood sacrifice to win the Citrus Bowl, an attempt to divide by zero, or the end result of having two SEC teams in the title game.
Ryan and Shane could use every last bit of vitamin C from the Citrus Bowl trophy as they are both under the weather to break down Notre Dame's victory over LSU. It's like a drunkcast, only more sober and painful on the vocal chords.
The cold open returns as does Notre Dame football! Shane and Ryan take an in-depth look at the upcoming Citrus Bowl between the Fighting Irish and LSU. Plus, picks for the rest of the bowl games with Eddie. This is the final episode of 2017 and, when next your ears meet our voices, we will have only one college football game remaining.
With the weirdness that is the early signing day, we at HLS are proud to bring you an exclusive interview to cover both the early signing period, as well as the recent shoplifting suspensions as only we can.
Eddie and I are clearly out of practice because the Saturday bowl slate did not end well for us. As we approach Christmas, it's time for us to get back on track after putting our first postseason ball in the water. After all, this is the season of giving and we simply decided to give everyone else in the pick 'em a head start on us.
With the Extra Life stream in the books, it's time to get back to football. Eddie and I officially open the bowl pick 'em (herloyalsons.com/pickem) by picking the small slate of five games this Saturday. Yes, it's probably bad football, but it's football and there's spreads and an Amazon gift card is on the line! Come join in the fun and prepare yourself for the joyous bowl season with us.
Chris, aka, Rakes of the Rakes Report, joins Tex once again, but this time for a live interview on the stream. Talk centers around (of course) Notre Dame Football, but also this crazy thing called Notre Dame Basketball!
Kaleb Schweiss, one of the hosts of the Ultima Final Fantasy podcast, joins a sleep deprived Tex to talk...well, Final Fantasy (surprise!). Also a hearty hat tip to UFF for their generous donation to the cause. I enjoyed the grind.
Find UFF at: http://www.ultimafinalfantasy.geekdomentertainment.com/
Ty Hildenbrant from The Solid Verbal joins the Extra Life effort to talk college football, Notre Dame football, 90's retro sports gaming, and we engage in a fun coach-speak bit. I also want to thank Dan & Ty for their generous donation to the Extra Life effort as well. Stay solid, y'all.
As we mentioned on the last football-related HLS podcast episode, THE ELITE would do a post-show. The topic 100% devolved into stupid drunk jokes and pro wrestling. We apologize in advance, but you knew this was going to happen, right?
We kick off the Extra Life interview series with the podcast that inspired me to take this crazy journey: Limit Break Radio. Nate, Robbie, and Nika joined me to discuss Extra Life, their shows (yes, plural, they also do Final Encounter Cast and a nationally syndicated gaming and eSports show, Checkpoint Radio), Final Fantasy, and gaming.
Be sure to check them out!
Loyal listeners, the podcast feed is going to take a short five episode detour (not including this one). As you've heard throughout the past few shows, I have participated in an event called Extra Life to benefit the Children's Miracle Network in memory of a young man named Aven. I did multiple interviews for my 24-plus hour marathon and wanted to share them with you in case you missed them.
Donations are still open via herloyalsons.com/extralife and you can check out the entire archived event at twitch.tv/ndtex.
Jack and Eddie return for another ELITE podcast. We have coaching moves, championship weekend recaps, bowl selection thoughts, Notre Dame takes, and kicking Jack repeatedly in the junk for Florida State's terrible 6-6 campaign. Oh, and we have a mystery Army/Navy pick thrown in. This is the only episode of the week so get on it!
It's conference championship week, but the insanity of the silly season of coaching searches has been doing its damnedest to take the spotlight, especially if you're Tennessee or Arizona State. We have picks and previews for all the biggest games this weekend, including Florida State's desperate attempt to keep their bowl streak alive, plus the latest (at least at the time of recording) coaching news and rumors.
The silly season of coaching hires and fires is underway now that the regular season has ended. With Notre Dame having a disappointing loss to Stanford, many ND fans would happily jump into that fray. After looking at the national picture, Tex fields live questions from the HLS Discord chat to talk through just where to go from here.
Kick off your Thanksgiving week with all the picks. Eddie joins Tex for a full episode of previewing the biggest (and some of the not so biggest) games of the week including Notre Dame vs. Stanford. #HAILGAMBLOR
Well, this week of college football was certainly a thing that happened. Notre Dame decided to give all Irish fans a heart attack in a rain-soaked senior day while most teams around the nation took a break from playing football teams with a pulse. But hey, it's football and there are things to discuss. Come join us.
Well, it's not exactly the best slate of games that we've seen in the 2017 season, but if one thing has held constant, it's that none of them have been boring. Although we seem to be very willing to test it with the onslaught of bad matchups and FCS tours. Quite a few of the top teams in the nation are looking to bounce back from some bad losses and Notre Dame finds themselves in that group.
There's only a couple of weeks left in the regular season. Let's enjoy them while they last.
Well...that happened. Notre Dame may just need to avoid South Beach for a long time because Miami gave every Irish fan Alabama flashbacks. ND, however, wasn't the only playoff contender downed in brutal fashion this past weekend. There's a lot to breakdown from this Saturday, including a discussion of the bigger picture of where the Irish go from here.
The cold open returns as does Shane. The Irish also make a return of their own, heading down to Miami for the first time since that fateful BCS Championship game that abruptly ended 2012's magical run to take part in one of three top-ten matchups in Saturday. This is one of the most jam-packed weeks of top-tier college football in some time.
Come join us and get yourself ready for one hell of a ride.
A win's a win, even if Notre Dame didn't put the usual choke-hold on their opponent. Still, a 700+ yard performance and a double-digit win falling in the sloppy category seems like a decent place to be in. It's certainly a spot a few other teams around college football would love to be in as well after a couple of major upsets. Let's dig in to the potential playoff implications and get some predictions for tomorrow's playoff rankings in this recap episode.
Shane is unfortunately still out, but the preview episode will keep truckin' on. There is a ton of scoreboard watching for Irish fans this week as there are many games that could greatly affect Notre Dame's playoff aspirations. Of course, the Irish still have a lot of control over their own destiny as Wake Forest comes into town. There are no weeks off anymore, so come on in and get ready for another great weekend of college football!
Shane, unfortunately, had something that he needed to attend to last minute; however, the loyal listeners need their picks and we intend to deliver. So enjoy a special episode devoted to nothing but degeneracy and stay tuned for the normal preview podcast tomorrow.
Happy Halloween, loyal listeners! This week, we break down a week in college football that had all kinds of major implications on the college football playoff picture. And dare we say it: Notre Dame is right in the thick of it all on the heels of yet another three possession victory against another top 15 team.
With Notre Dame's big win against Southern Cal, the Irish have found themselves right in the middle of the (early) playoff conversation. This week, the path gets no easier with another top 15 matchup against North Carolina State. This week, the rest of the college football world also has a few big games that could greatly affect the playoff picture as well.
It's getting quite fun and the Irish are right in the thick of it all.
This week in picks, Eddie and I try to build on one hell of a start to the second half. Make sure to come join the fun at herloyalsons.com/pickem!
Well, it actually happened: the Irish beat a ranked Southern Cal team for the first time since 1995. Multiple folks from the HLS staff come and chime in on this simply GLORIOUS podcast. Enjoy this one folks, we've been waiting for over 20 years for this one!
After taking a bye week himself, Shane returns to his rightful co-hosting spot on the podcast. While this week isn't full of marquee matchups, we still have a few games on up on our radar. However, there is no doubt that all Irish eyes are centered on Notre Dame vs Southern Cal this weekend.
With a hellacious second half about to kick off for the Irish, come out of your bye week hangover with us!
Also, be sure to stick around for a much more sober Eddie with picks, find out who won the first half prize in the pick 'em, and get in on the second half! herloyalsons.com/pickem
Friend of the podcast, Jack Jorgensen, had an idea about both him and Eddie coming on for the same episode. On the heels of an insane bye week for ND, and Shane still out, this happens and it's just too sweeeeeeeeeet...granted Eddie doesn't join the show from his drunken stupor until a full hour in, but hey, it still happened!
Be Elite. Listen to the whole thing. Be a loyal listener f-f-f-f-for life.
...we apologize in advance.
Notre Dame is on a bye and there are no huge top-25-on-top-25 matchups, but that doesn't mean there aren't some games that shouldn't be on your radar (plus, we all know crazy never takes a week off in college football). Tex rolls solo again to detail six games that you should pay attention to, plus some follow ups on Gary Andersen walking away from buyout life & the FBI fraud investigation in college basketball. Plus, the first segment of our pick 'em comes to an end this week. Eddie and I take our final stabs before our first half victor is declared.
No Shane in this episode, but Tex picks himself by the bootstraps up after a long wedding weekend to roll solo. Frankly, that's more than some teams can say this week as there were some seismic upsets *cough*OklahomaAndMichigan*cough* this weekend. Mike Valenti gets some redemption in today's cold open, but you should go check out his full soapbox speech: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IfVmlg4u1KY
Oh, and Notre Dame had another three possession victory on the road. Ho hum.
It only seems fitting that there's a tropical storm brewing in the Gulf that will eventually find its way towards the Carolinas as the Irish prepare for their annual road trip into the Carolinas. Thankfully, this one is both weak and scheduled to arrive well after the Irish depart. Third time's a charm! Anyways, come on in for a preview of week 6 in the world of college football, ND/UNC, picks with Eddie and a reminder to not get married in the fall.
We are becoming fans of this whole "blow out the opponent by three plus possessions" thing. Lots to talk about in this podcast, not just from the Notre Dame side, but a crazy week of college football that saw a top-five team *cough*SouthernCal*cough* crash and burn and another ranked team finds themselves embrassed at their own homecoming.
The title will make plenty of sense during the cold open. Tex is a wee bit punchdrunk from a long week of work and little sleep and did it ever show. Thank the good lord for the ability to edit in this medium. Anyways, it's time to preview week 5 which features three top 25 matchups and Notre Dame vs. Miami (OH). As always Eddie joins in for picks of the week and you can come join in on the fun via herloyalsons.com/pickem.
No cold open this time around, but we make up for it on the backend in this episode as Mr. PUCKER PUCKER PUCKER himself, Mike Valenti was at it again. You can find his (much shorter) newer rant that we had loads of fun with here: https://omny.fm/shows/the-valenti-show/mike-valenti-reacts-to-notre-dame-beating-msu
But that's at the end of the show. Before that bit of audio joy, we have a whole week of college football to recap, including Notre Dame's victory out in East Lansing.
After being treated to an unexpectedly crazy week 3, we take a look at what week 4 has to offer. The cupcakes have given way to conference matchups for most of college football. It's like moving day in golf. We should get a better idea of what many of the top teams in the nation are made of, leading to quite a few games landing on our radar to both preview and pick. Of course, Notre Dame has a large test looming themselves with a true road game in a hostile enviornment under the lights against Michigan State.
Get your football weekend started early with us!
515 yards on the ground. That. Happened. A lot of other insanity happened around in this projected "down" week of college football as well. I don't believe we've ever talked about so many games in a single sitting. Buckle up and start your week with us. Loads to talk about around the world of college football, plus discussing just what this Beantown Beatdown means going forward.
Irma is long gone and Shane has returned to the show! It's a little longer than usual as we catch up on news held over from earlier in the week. Plus, Shane is able to give his toughts on ND/Georgia while Tex talks a bit more about changes inside the stadium. Oh, and there's a ND game against some school outside of Boston.
It's time to get this show, and the season, back on track.
Also, have you joined the HLS Pick 'Em yet? If not, you should. Prizes available for each half of the season so it's not too late to join.
Well, the first loss came sooner than anyone wanted it to. Even worse, Shane is unable to join this episode thanks to Hurricane Irma. So Tex rolls solo recapping the week that was in college football and the rough ND loss against Georgia.
With Irma barrelling towards Shane's home of Florida, we did everything we could to get the preview episode out. Come hear our breakdown of some of the biggest games of the week, including Notre Dame vs. Georgia. Plus, picks with Eddie and y'all should really come pick against us in our pool. We will split the season up into segments so don't worry if you missed week one, come on in!
Needless to say, we were rather excited to see Notre Dame coast to an easy blowout victory. Come join us as we recap the week that was in college football and discuss the Irish's cathartic win over Temple.
College football is finally upon us! Welcome to our new day for our preview episodes. Be sure to join us every Thursday during the season as we preview the upcoming week of college football, including, of course Notre Dame. This year, we hope that you also join Eddie and I in our picks. So see if you can do better than us, head over here to join our pool for free.
