How Sharing Your Truth Can Open Doors & Opportunities- An Interview With Prisca Dorcas, Author OF For Brown Girls With Sharp Edges & Tender Hearts

Welcome to the HeyDreamer! Podcast by Jessie Medina (@jessiemedinaofficial). This podcast is for dreamers who dream big and take aligned action! If you want to feel inspired and learn about how others are living their dream life, this is the place for you.

On this episode, I had the honor to chat with Prisca Dorcas, author of For Brown Girls With Sharp Edges & Tender Hearts. On this interview she shares her journey from Nicaragua to the U.S. and why she started Latina Rebels and how she became a best-selling author.

Prisca Dorcas Mojica Rodríguez was born in Managua, Nicaragua but calls Nashville, Tennessee home. She got her Masters of Divinity from Vanderbilt University in the Spring of 2015. The bulk of her work is around making accessible, through storytelling and curating content, the theories and heavy material that is oftentimes only taught in the racist/classist institutions known as academia. To date she has participated in the Young Adult anthology "Nevertheless, We Persisted." Recently Prisca also participated in an anthology edited by Lynda Lopez titled, "The Fearless Rise and Powerful Resonance of Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez."  She started the platform Latina Rebels in 2013, and currently it boasts over 300k organic followers online. She has been featured in Telemundo, Univision, Mitú, Huffington Post Latino Voices, Guerrilla Feminism, Latina Mag, Cosmopolitan, Everyday Feminism, and was invited to the White House in the Fall of 2016. She is unapologetic, angry, and uncompromising about protecting and upholding the stories of Latinx communities. Que viva la gente!  Currently, her first full length book with Seal Press a subsidiary of Hachette Book Group, is out everywhere books are sold!

You can follow Prisca on IG @priscadorcas and @latinarebels.

On My Baby Coco's Passing and Grief

I kept pushing this off because I wanted a perfectly eloquent episode that would honor Coco's memory but I would always break down. Now I chose just to do it. No editing, no waiting for perfection. Coco deserves a full episode and here it is. I also shared a bit about my grief journey. Not eloquently and very messy but honest.

The Perfection Trap

The Perfection Trap

Perfection, perfection...one of the biggest mind traps! As a recovering perfectionist, I dove in a bit into what perfection is and the different "perfectionist styles," that's right, there are many!

Perfectionism doesn't show up the same for everyone but there is one style that's more common in women and it's definitely something that can be unlearned.

Let's dive in and learn a bit about this "seemingly" innocent drive to be perfect. If you enjoy this episode, make sure to share on social and tag @JessieMedinaOfficial. What type of perfectionist are you? Are you in the recovery process or still in it?

The Art Of Feminine Selling With Julia Andrews

The Art Of Feminine Selling With Julia Andrews

Hola! On today's episode, I had the honor of chatting with Julia Andrews.

Julia represents the National Association of Women Sales Professionals as the Chapter President Portland and is the founder and creator of The Art of Feminine Selling™, a sales methodology that highlights empathy and vulnerability as a strength with an emphasis on mindset and authenticity to self.  She is a sales coach and a sales-team strategist who's sold over $215M in sales and who bring her expertise from working over 2 decades as a top-tier performer in corporate financial services to help and support women not be afraid of selling and achieve the financial success they envision for themselves. Before moving to the U.S. Julia shares that one of her biggest adventures was learning English as a second language while at the same time learning how to sell as she needed to alleviate the household burden to her single mother with 5 children.  As she describes it, "sales was my second language and English was my third."

If you enjoyed this episode, make sure to share, tag, and review it!

JULIA'S GIVEAWAY:

Discovery Calls can be an amazing tool to assess if a potential client is your IDEAL client and provide you an opportunity to sell them into the right package....that is IF you know what to say, and more importantly, what NOT to say.

After witnessing 60 discovery calls gone terribly bad I created this action guide to help you do the following:

How to steer the conversation that leads to your offer and directly into the sale.
How to deepen connection and create trust.
How to establish the time boundaries while still serving.
Why you continue to get the money objection and what to do instead.
And so much more!

Cultura Violación, Calladitas No Nos Vemos Más Bonitas
