HEY NOW PODCAST: CONVOS & JOURNEY- FEAT NIGEL WRIGHT GLOBAL BASKETBALL MARKETING NEW BALANCE

HEY NOW PODCAST: CONVOS & JOURNEY- FEAT NIGEL WRIGHT GLOBAL BASKETBALL MARKETING NEW BALANCE

We had the pleasure of sitting down and chopping it up with Nigel Wright and man what a dope conversation, very knowledgeable person. Nigel really has a unique and interesting background. He is currently Global Basketball Marketing for New Balance but his journey leading up to this position is really an interesting one. He put in work with the Players Tribute  as well as help develop the “ The Knucklehead podcast with Q Rich and D Miles He also worked for the company “The Robot” which is ran by Maverick Carter you can even try to google but will find no info on it, so you can tell it’s only for the elite lol. Just a few places Nigel has left his imprint on.  * * Nigel also came up as a Rice Rider so he is not new to this and once you get to hear his journey you are going to understand how inspiring it is. It definitely got my mind working and truly grateful he took the time out and kicked with us. I truly know he is going to do job at New Balance. * * We touched on Kyrie needing a pause for a min, because even I use my mental health days from work when I’m not feeling it lol so what’s the difference? As well as spoke on how former players who are now analyzers criticize those who are playing now. ( I’m talking about trying to kick down players for rating and click bait, I thought the league was supposed to be a fraternity ) and more.... Overall I really enjoyed this sit down...Learned a lot. So many hidden gems  * * * The number of people of color in sports is so so small, that when you see something in that position you have to applaud it because the opportunities are not there.... That’s a narrative that definitely has to change ASAP.

HEY NOW PODCAST: CONVERSATIONS & JOURNEYS FEAT JUNIOR NUNEZ @POCKETDENIM_BUNZ RECAP EPISODE

On the final installment of the Hey Now Podcast season series, we got a recap episode to catch up with one of our HEY NOW Alumni Film Editor, Junior Nunez. Junior has had the pleasure of working on dope projects but what’s even better is knowing that he is self-taught.

He taught himself the ropes after realizing that he never wanted to hear someone tell him “We have to let you go” ever again. Recently Junior just got done working on the “Hamilton” project which was recently released on Disney plus as well “The Last Dance” the Chicago Bulls Documentary that recently aired on ESPN. Junior journey is one that I truly love and embrace because he could have folded when he got let go from his job.

He could have totally gone left, but he decided to grind it out and stay the course. Now he is at a position where he gets to decide what projects he wants to work on. That’s how good his craft has gotten and it’s something that I truly admire from him. The ability to not give up and figure it out.

So sit back and relax! This is the Hey Now Podcast!

I think people will connect more with Rashad because he is just like us, an athlete who wanted to be more for the more than the sports that played and that’s exactly what he has down with @earnyourlesuire.

He also motivated me into buying stocks lol.  Overall it was just great learning the journey of Rashad because of the many Gems it offered as well as so many lessons that it really gets you thinking differently. HEY NOW PODCAST: CONVERSATIONS & JOURNEYS FEAT. LINDA AKA AYBAR @everything.aybar

In this episode of the Hey Now Podcast we got a chance to sit down with Linda aka Aybar. Linda is truly a unique individual because she is not someone who you can put in a box. I think that is truly important because we have so many people always telling us just focus on one thing, just be good at one thing, but what happens if you have more than one interest? That's the  spark that Linda began to spark and once she did that she truly began to find herself. She has become a consulting, entrepreneur, author, artist and even was a DJ as well. But none of it came easy to her. Some people doubted her moves even family. But she never doubted herself and decided she wanted to be seen in her light.  People could learn from Linda's journey because she is doing something most people are afraid to do........ Following their own light.

HEY NOW PODCAST: CONVERSATIONS & JOURNEYS FEAT JASON ROMER @JROSPORTS

HEY NOW PODCAST: CONVERSATIONS & JOURNEYS FEAT JASON ROMER @JROSPORTS

On this episode of the Hey Now Podcast we got a chance to sit down with Jason Romer. Jason was someone who I always knew but I never knew his journey to get to the position that he is now. So when we finally got the sit down I was really impress with his determination, his work ethic but most importantly the ability to adapt to situations that was not in his favor and excel. He used basketball as an escape as well as a tool to build relationships with other people.

Jason journey is truly interesting, from his time playing at Wadleigh High School and having his school record as a senior erased after having a great season or going to a prep school where you had to dorm with 15 teammates in one house. Him playing college basketball and either after practice or a game he would have to go down to Wall Street from Jersey so he could go to his job because he started to understand how networking works as well and having experience. But it was not until a car accident in which Jason almost lost his life that he really started to buckle down and really focus on his purpose and that's how the birth of his brand USNY came about and also his continue passion in helping the youth.

So sit back and relax and enjoy the Hey Now Podcast Feat Jason Romer

HEY NOW PODCAST: CONVERSATIONS AND JOURNEYS WITH PAUL NICKERSON III @pnickthe3rd

On this episode of the HEY NOW PODCAST we got a chance to sit down with Paulie and learn about his journey. In our conversation we got a chance to sit down and discuss how basketball played a role in him being the person that he is and how the lessons he learn on the court has helped him off the court. Throughout our conversations plenty gems are drop but I think the one that stood out are of his hard work, determination, and the ability to understand that he belongs here and I think is a mentality that we should adopt and it was something that his father taught him and he truly owned it.

From playing at Saint Raymond's High School for Boys and then playing for Clark Atlanta University hard work and proven others wrong was something that was not new to him and it would translate to him being business savvy which you can see through his entrepreneurship, through YAVE Tequila  , through Check list the play. Paulie has truly been an individual who has used basketball as a tool to navigate through life and I truly think present and future ballers should take his journey into account for life after basketball. On this episode of the HEY NOW PODCAST we got a chance to kick it with the creator of one of the hottest shows out right now  which is "Cigar Talk" he goes by the name of Naji Grampus and who is also Director, Urban Strategy, North America at The Orchard. He could of easily folded, he could of easily gave up but if he had he would of never been able to go on tour with Nipsey, he would of never got the chance to intern at Roc Nation let alone get that chance to learn from OG Juan. But most importantly he would of never encounter that car ride with Emory Jones that really set the blaze for him to continue to push through. It's a journey that reminds me. When one door closes... Just continue to knock the others down!!!! So again Thank you Naji for sharing your journey. The good and the bad. HEY NOW

HEY NOW Podcast: Conversations and Journeys with Psychotherapist Anabella Bergamasco @Ab3.jpg

On this episode of the Hey Now Podcast, we got a chance to sit down with Psychotherapist Anabella Bergamsco. In this episode we were able to unpack a few things. Some of the things that we discussed in this episode surrounded around the issues concerning mental health as well as of the stigma that therapy is not for men. We also touched on how therapy can help with athletes deal with the day to day pressure that comes with being an athlete. This episode really allowed us to get some things in the air as well as giving better perspectives on the benefits that therapy can have. We spend so much time noticing the ugly side of things we forget how beautiful things really are. I really believe therapy helps bring that side out of you as well as understanding.

Well from my experience.

So enough of me. Enjoy.. HEY NOW

On this episode of the Hey Now Podcast we got a chance to sit down with a true legend, Andre Barrett. Andre Barrett is a former Professional Basketball Player from New York City who was consider the number 1 point guard at one point. In this episode we discuss how Andre Barrett even though he lived in the Bronx decided to go to Rice High School instead of St. Raymond’s High School for boys which is located in the Bronx and consider one of the top high school program like Rice High School. We also got a chance to discuss his relationship with Kenny Satterfield and how those battle with him at better equipped him as a player. We talked about the battles he use to go through when going up against Omar Cook and Taliek Brown and how it was always a toss up to people on who was the number point guard in NYC. Andre also let us know that a big reason that he was able to have confidence on the court was because n High School he was  able to play and work out with pro’s and college players and he said how much that really help get his game to developed.

Hey Now Podcast : Season 2 with Steven Galeano @borichapin

Hey Now Podcast : Season 2 with Steven Galeano @borichapin

Hey Now Podcast Season 2 with Steven Galeano @borichapin

On this episode of the Hey Now Podcast we had the chance to sit down with the number one 141 pound amateur boxer out of New York City Steven Galeano. Before we got into Steve’s journey we had conversations on a few things. We started off the conversation by discussing Mac Millers passing. Now Mac was a true artist who inspired many, so his death certainly came as shocking news with him being so young. Addiction and overdose are real things and it’s occurring more and more. Imagine the people that we don’t hear about? We discuss the importance of reaching out to one another because we simply don’t know what someone may be going through and helping them try not to lead into self-medication and getting the proper help that they made need.

After that we discuss the Danny Garcia and Shawn Porter fight. We spoke about how we viewed the fight and to no surprise we agreed that Danny Garcia beat Shawn Porter lol. We also talked a little bit about Adrien Broner and his stunts and is he really a good boxer at all? It was an extremely interesting conversation to say the least.

On the 21:59 mark we get a chance we get into the Steven Galeano journey. We touched on when he first decided to pick up some boxing gloves. How his older brother and his father really motivate him to be the person he is today but of course that also came with some bumps and bruises down the road. But if you ask Steven he would tell you that those bumps and bruises were needed. If he would have never gone through the fire, felt the floor, who knows which Steven Galeano would be here. From not listening to his trainer and wanting to do things his way, to him going through injuries and some tough loses those were experience that he had to go through, it was those experiences that shape him to be the person he is today.  He is able to balance boxing and school, something that I truly admire. Steven also discuss with us competing in local tournaments, winning the Ringmaster tournament after many people doubted him and his experience fighting in Nationals as well as the preparations to get ready for the fights as well as what sparked him to really take the sport seriously.

Steven Galeano journey’s is one that I feel that many people can learn from. Life is a constant fight. Some days you win and some days you lose but what’s important is that you live to learn another day. That’s something we can learn from Steven, we can dwell and we can be sad but we don’t ever give up no matter what. We fight because that’s what fighters do. #HeyNow

Hey Now Podcast with Dorvell Carter. Season 2 Episode 4

Hey Now Podcast with Dorvell Carter. Season 2 Episode 4

Hey Now Podcast with Dorvell Carter. Season 2 Episode 4

In this episode of the Hey Now Podcast we got a chance to sit down with Dorvell Carter aka DC who is a Marist Alum as well as a Rice High School Alum.

In this episode we touched on a few things such as conversations regarding Carmelo Anthony joining the Houston Rockets as well as discuss the new rule the NCAA mention regarding basketball and how the players will be allowed to hire an agent but if the athletes does not get drafted he can go back to school but will have to forfeit relation that they had with the agent in order to move forward. We share our opinion and express the effect it will have on the players. Another topic that we discussed was if Jay-Z would have any influence on the upcoming athlete to join the Puma family since now he has a creative position with Puma as well as have conversations if athletes would really sign with them and the chances that athletes may get hurt because Puma is not your typical performance sneaker.

On the 37.43 mark we begin to discuss the journey of Dorvell Carter aka DC. DC was able to share to with us how he got into the sport of basketball and how seeing his cousin Majestic Map go to work really inspired him to want to hoop. After that we spoke about his time in St. Raymond High School and how things not working out for him set him up to a better situation at Rice High School. A school where he was able to showcase his talent and also be a part of a family thanks to the help of Kashif Pratt who assisted. We touched on some of the players he played against such as Brandon Jennings and much more while playing with Rice power house and being one of the top players in NYC.

But I think one of the most interesting parts in Dorvell’s journey was when he went to play for Marist College. Due to injuries his game was put on hold but you always saw flashes of DC. He could of folded and said I don’t want to play basketball anymore but he didn’t he kept working even after multiple knee injuries. That showed his determination and love he had for the sport. Another thing that you would learn is that you get what you put in. DC felt that he could have had a chance playing professional but he also knew that he didn’t put the right and enough work to get to that position and I applaud him for that because there is so many people who do not hold themselves accountability for their actions and that’s one thing I learned from his journey and I hope others will. It’s okay to mess up, we are not perfect, but we become perfect once realize our own accountability

We got a chance to discuss different things from Lebron James opening up a school to having a conversation on what athletes should do more off the court. Also discuss Kareem Abdul Jabbar as well as some Carmelo Anthony talks.

During the 33:43 mark we get into the journey of Dennis and “Hype Kills”. We got a chance to discuss how he got into street wear, How he use to travel to LA with his pops to get the finest drip in clothing. He was a student of the street wear game and notice that he should carve his own lane and create. But of course it was not easy. Some doors closed and money was lost but he did not get discourage he continued to take baby steps and continued to build “Hype Kills” until the brand began making noise the way that it is now but he would not be able to get to this point without hard work, sacrifice, and to always having the ability to want to learn and being a student of the game. Dennis knew what he wanted and instead of taking the criticism he received early, he used that same energy to create something special, something that it will have its own meaning to its own individual. “Hype Kills” is the movement and I’m just glad Dennis took the time out to share his journey with us. #HeyNow

Hey Now Podcast Season 2 Episode 2 Feat "Jason Bourne" The Plug

Hey Now Podcast Season 2 Episode 2 Feat "Jason Bourne" The Plug

Hey Now Podcast Season 2 Episode 2 Feat “ Jason Bourne “  The Plug

On this episode of the Hey Now Podcast we got to sit down with Davon Aka “Jason Bourne” who is a Media Contributor who does it all. No limit to what he does in the media world so it was dope to have him chop it up with us. His journey to get to the position that he is was a real one. He could of folded or even went back to that 4x4 cell, but he choose not to. He felt he already let many people down so he wanted to own it and really make someone out of himself and man he has!!!! He didn’t let the obstacles or the fall decide who he was as a person or decide his future. He took matters into his own hands and held himself accountable and that to me is admirable  and something that I hope the listeners and viewers could notice and take advantage of it and truly embrace the journey.

In the first part of our conversations as always we touched on some sports such as Kawhi Leonard wanting to leave the Spurs and trainer situation, we also touched on the Carmelo Anthony situation as well as touched on some of the marketing tactics some of these artists use such a click bait like 6ix9ine, we also touched on the back and forth between 50 cents and Floyd Mayweather.

32:30 - The Jason Bourne Journey

In this portion of the conversation we turned to our guest:

-His up bringing in Harlem and Dyckman

-How basketball played an important role in the person he is today and how it helped him get into school

We touched on how losing his cousin to the streets really open his eye to wanting to leave the hood and go away to for high school

-How a wrong turn through his journey let him to have to be incarcerated as well as touched on what he learned from that experience  and his vow to not to ever go back

-We discuss how he got into writing and transitioning to different platform

In all this episode was a truthful. Davon experience something could of easily kept him in the same path. But he realize that he wanted more out of this life but most importantly  he wanted to make those that made scarfices for him proud. A true testament that is not how you start but is how you finish. He branded himself in being the go to person when you want your music critique, when you need an album review or write up on artist or when you need some one to host and capture the vibes…. Jason Bourne is who you call. I’m just proud to call him a brother .
