Hidden Aspects: A Hades Podcast

That's right, Hat had to sneak in one more podcast. Jorbs is our guest on this special episode of Hidden Aspects and he's here to talk about his new book as well as a game that gripped both of us immediately. Orb of Creation was too fun to not talk about, so here we are!

It's time to wake up the feed for something a little different! Hat and Kite decide to interrupt their busy schedule of talking about Elden Ring around the house to instead talk about Elden Ring into a microphone. If you like general gaming talk and kitchen table banter, definitely tune in - and there are some Hades references too, of course!

A fellow content creator and Hearthstone player turned Hades addict joins us this week! ADWCTA is known for his data-driven analysis of... well, any game he gets his hands on, and Hades is no exception. Listen in and learn about a very different approach to playing.

We're joined by Conor Kou, designer of the popular Hearthstone Battlegrounds game, and we fly way up to have a super high-level conversation about game design in general and how it relates to Hades!

My good friend and cohost on a different podcast Edelweiss joins us to talk about Hades. There's lots of gamer chat here as expected, but we also get to learn about Hestia, her favorite weapon and the one she used to earn that 32 heat statue. 

The journey to high heat can be a challenging one, so we get some advice from Tailesque, one of the two players to have cleared on 57 heat!!! After getting to know him, we learn the best way to get started at pushing high levels and what the different heat levels throw your way.

Active community member, ghost chef extraordinaire, and new-ish speedrunner WashInTheWind joins the show to give us his idea of what it's like to go fast and how you can do it too.

Our guest Jay (HamletEJ on twitter) just finished clearing 32 heat... on EVERY ASPECT. Wow! They've been playing the game since lockdown started in March and have a lot of insight to share, both from their love of the game and their background in systems design. If you like technical details and discussions about roguelike genre conventions, this is the episode for you.

Hades is a game, and games are meant to be fun - and that's what this week's episode is all about. Hat brings on his friends hypo and Cynthia to talk about the lighter side of the game including a full discussion at the end of what really stands out to us about the game's creative craft. Both of our guests work in the game industry, so they're able to bring a unique perspective - but everyone can relate to loving this game!

On this episode, Dr. Michael Mallen (also known as the Id DM) joins the show to talk about what Hades offers that makes it so compelling. As a licensed psychologist by trade but a gamer by hobby, Mike is able to give us a different perspective on the game and illustrates the design decisions creating that trademark addictive gameplay - including little details that we may not even be aware of.

Who touched the thermostat? On this episode, FlyThatKite joins the show to talk about the experience of turning up the heat as a new player from the 1.0 release - a similar perspective to Hat, since the two of us are married! Tune in to understand what it's like to live in the real House of Hades.
