Every Nation Praises the Lord in Heaven - S01E28
In Southern Baptist Churches we celebrate International Missions during December with a special offering in honor a great missionary to China named Lottie Moon. This message was for our kick off Sunday for that emphasis and came from the theme verse for this year's SBC focus in Revelation 7:9. It's a vision of every nation, tribe, language and people praising the Lord. We can be part of making that vision a reality as we support missions. That's this last week's message from our pastor, Dr. Kevin A. Purcell. Please check out High Peak Baptist Church in Valdese, NC on the web, on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

His Mercy Endures Forever - S01E27
When a problem arises in our lives we respond from one end of the spectrum to another. From annoyance and anger on one end to peaceful trust or faith in God. At which end do you spend most of your response time? We talk about that from Psalm 136 which includes the repeated refrain, "His mercy endures forever." That's this last week's message from our pastor, Dr. Kevin A. Purcell. Please check out High Peak Baptist Church in Valdese, NC on the web, on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

5 Excellent Excuses to Not Service God - S01E26
Do you really not want to serve God but can't come up with a good excuse to give Him? I've got 5 of them from the story of Moses' call to become the deliver of Israel from Egypt. These are guaranteed to give you an out so you don't have to serve the Lord. That's this last week's message from our pastor, Dr. Kevin A. Purcell. Costume Christianity - S01E25
We celebrated Halloween on October 31 and everyone dressed in some great costumes at our annual Trunk or Treat. We put on a costume as human beings and sometimes it masks who we really are, but God wants us to put on his costume of Christlikeness. That was the message this week at High Peak from our pastor, Dr. Kevin A. Purcell. Please check out our church on the web, on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

By My Spirit - S01E24
We can succeed if we rely on the Spirit of God instead of our own strength. That's what Zechariah 4:6 tells us. That's what this message is about in this week's Sermon at High Peak from our pastor, Dr. Kevin A. Purcell. Please check out our church on the web, on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Childlike Faith - S01E23
Remember that old Lifesavers commercial where a daughter sits with her father watching the sun go down. He says, "Going. Going. Gone!" And the sun disappears under the horizon. She's amazed and whispers, "Do it again daddy!" Children trust so simply and completely. Jesus calls us to have a childlike faith and that's what this message is about in this week's Sermon at High Peak from our pastor, Dr. Kevin A. Purcell. Mount Rushmore of How to Treat People - S01E22
People sometimes rank things by saying, "Wha's the Mount Rushmore of dog breeds" or of "classic cars." What they are asking is what are the four best things in that category. So what would you put on the Mount Rushmore of how to treat people? We look at Micah 6:8 and John 15:13 to find the answer to that question in this week's Sermon at High Peak from our pastor, Dr. Kevin A. Purcell. Please check out our church on the web, on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Betrayal of Jesus at Last Supper - S01E21
We celebrated the Lord's Supper on the last Sunday of September at High Peak Baptist Church, so I took a look at the events surrounding the Last Supper. Jesus predicted His own betrayal by both Judas and Peter. We betray Jesus every time we sin, which requires us to repeatedly go back to the cross and Remember, Repent and Renew our commitment to Jesus. That was the heart of this message from our pastor, Dr. Kevin A. Purcell.  Please check out our church on the web, on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

The third sermon in our series on GROW, taking the letters of that term to form an acrostic. This message uses the O for Other-focused Living. We talk about how Christ lived his life and died for others self sacrificially. We are called to follow that example as well. The others sermons in the series included W for Worship and R for Reporting the Good News. The series covers how Christians Grow Together in Worship in this sermon by our pastor Dr. Kevin A. Purcell. When We All Get to Heaven
The great old hymn When We All Get to Heaven gives us hope to believe that this is not the end of life, even if our life ends. Why do we get so excited about heaven in our older years and why should younger believers not fear death so much? We answer that as we look at John 14, where Jesus said, "I go to prepare a place for you..." in this sermon by our pastor Dr. Kevin A. Purcell. Please check out our church on the web, on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

"Do What You Love and You'll Never Work" is a LIE!
This is the fourth part of our sermon series entitled "Pots of Gold" based on the idea that at the end of the rainbow their's supposed to be a pot of gold. People might look for these elusive things in their lives to fulfill them, but on Jesus can do that. The fourth message, focusing on 1 John 2:15-17, talked about how we seek Comfort over service. We want to achieve comfort and eschew all suffering, even if that suffering can benefit other people, like Jesus' suffering on the cross benefits us.. Please check out our church on the web, on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Seeking Pots of God - Approval
This is the third part of our sermon series entitled "Pots of Gold" based on the idea that at the end of the rainbow their's supposed to be a pot of gold. People might look for these elusive things in their lives to fulfill them, but on Jesus can do that. The third message, focusing on Proverbs 29:25-26 and Galatians 1:10 talked about how we seek Approval of people over God's approval. That's a trap, but God will free us if we trust him and seek his pleasure alone. Please check out our church on the web, on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Seeking Pots of Gold - Fortune
This is the second part of our sermon series entitled "Pots of Gold" based on the idea that at the end of the rainbow their's supposed to be a pot of gold. People might look for these elusive things in their lives to fulfill them, but on Jesus can do that. The second message, focusing on Luke 12:22-34 talked about how we seek Fortune. Instead we can trust God to provide for our needs while we focus instead of building his kingdom. He'll also secure our eternal rewards if we trust him with our lives. Seeking Pots of God - Fame
We started a new sermon series entitled "Pots of Gold" based on the idea that at the end of the rainbow their's supposed to be a pot of gold. People might look for these elusive things in their lives to fulfill them, but on Jesus can do that. The first message, focusing on John 3:30 and 1 Chronicles 14:16-17 talked about how we seek Fame, not worldwide fame, but notoriety in our own spheres of influence. Green Eggs and Ham - VBS Follow Up Message
We did a Dr. Seuss theme for our 2019 Vacation Bible School. I teach an adult class and each night I took one of Dr. Seuss's best books and used it as a theme for that night's study, so naturally, I preached the Sunday after VBS using Green Eggs and Ham as my theme. The sermon focused on how God is like the Francis Thompson poem says, a Hound of Heaven. Psalm 34:87 served as the key passage for this message.    Psalm 34:8, CSB Taste and see that the Lord is good. How happy is the person who takes refuge in him! Take the Lord for a Taste Test! See that the Lord is Worth Your Investment - give him your resources and more importantly your life. See that the Lord is Good! Yes He Is!  Please check out our church on the web, on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

The Family Car - Father's Day Message
On Father's Day 2019 we looked at the Family and compared it to the family car. Ephesians 5:33 served as the primary scripture passage for the message. Here are the main ideas from the message... Unless You're Rich, You Have to Keep Making the Payments - keep loving your family all the time. A Car Is Never Just a Car - a family is more than just a collection of people and we need to cultivate our love for them by actively loving them. Big Ones in Front and Little Ones in the Back - Parents and Children have a God ordained role.  Please check out our church on the web, on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.

Mothers Day 2019
On Mother's Day 2019, instead of focusing on honoring mothers or guilting moms into doing better, we looked at the way mothers and parents or grandparents can help reach their family members for Jesus. The message went like this... We can win wayward family members (Matthew 18:15-17) We must earn the right to speak (Luke 19:10; Romans 5:8; 2 Timothy 4:2a) We should accept the call to speak When we speak, trust the Lord to speak through your words (Luke 21:15-18) In the message I played a testimony from an amazing man named Nick Vujcich (pronounced VOYCHICK) from Youtube. Go check it out. Please check out our church on the web, on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
