21 Days - Opener
Hey all! We are starting 21 Days of Prayer on Sunday October 3, 2021. Join us every day for a devotional podcast that will lead you into a time of prayer between you and the Lord.
God as King
Jesus invites us to pray "Your Kingdom Come." When he does so he is referencing the Old Testament idea of God as King. Today in the podcast we will look at two aspects of Old Testament kingship and how it relates to the Lord's prayer.
God as Father
Jesus invited us to call God Father. It was a shocking concept at the time. The Old Testament doesn't have a lot to say about God as Father, but there are a few clues that can help us to understand what it means to call God Father. Join us today as we dig into the Old Testament connections to God as Father.
What about Re-Marriage?
Jesus on Divorce (Divorce and Re-Marriage Part 2)
In Matthew 19, Jesus is asked about his thoughts on divorce. It was an issue two thousand years ago, and still is today. Jesus responds by taking us back to Genesis 2 and God's original intent for marriage. The Apostle Paul also weighed in on this issue in 1 Corinthians 7:1-16. In today's episode, we will look at all of these passages.
Jesus on Adultery (Divorce and Re-Marriage Part 1)
The subject of divorce and remarriage comes up regularly in my role as a pastor. This is the first in a three-part series about Jesus teaching on adultery, divorce and remarriage. In this episode, we take a look at Jesus teaching from Matthew 5:27-30 and its counterpart in Deuteronomy 24:1-4.
Jesus Fulfilled It All
Matthew has a different perspective on who Jesus is. Matthew sees Jesus as the fulfillment of Torah and the Prophets. In today’s episode we take a look at Matthew’s unique perspective on Jesus from Matthew 1-7.
Lord of the Sabbath
Early on in Mark’s gospel Jesus called himself Lord of the Sabbath. It seemed like a strange thing to say in that moment. How was Jesus Lord of the Sabbath? What did that title even mean? Yet by the end of Mark’s gospel it begins to dawn on us exactly what Jesus might have been trying to tell us. Join us as we discuss Mark 2:23 to Mark 3:6.
Jesus, Lord of All
In the book of Mark, Jesus actions consistently declare that he is Lord over all. A series of events in Mark 1:21-2:13 reveal that Jesus is Lord over the spiritual realm, Lord over the physical realm, and, Lord over the power of Sin. Yet Jesus remains silent about his true identity and attempts to silence others who try to declare it out loud. Join us today as we discuss what Mark has to say about Jesus.
Deny Yourself and Follow Me
Jesus made some radical statements when he called his disciples to follow him. At first glance these statements seem to say that we should leave behind businesses and family and possessions to follow Jesus. Today we take a deeper look at Jesus radical call to follow him.
Depend on the Spirit
Today we are looking at Mark chapter 1:12-13. Jesus is led by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by Satan. There is a lot going on in this text. Is Jesus a Second Adam? Is Jesus the long-awaited Prophet? Is Jesus a stand-in for Israel? Join us as we look at this text more in-depth.
Taking the Plunge
This week we take a deep dive into Mark 1:9-11. A voice from heaven says, "This is my Son and I am pleased with him." What does this mean? Let's take a look!
