Scott Lasher tells us that this last year is just the beginning for Hope Denver. Do you want to be a part of the story?

Perspectives - Speak Your Truth
There is definitely something good to gain from advice like "speak your truth," but this advice can be confusing when it comes to things that are not up for interpretation. How do we live in a culture where everyone has biases and differing opinions? How do we be respectful towards those with whom we disagree while recognizing the fact that sometimes we all get it wrong? Ps. Ike Shepardson's message this week aims to help us think about truth based on how Jesus lived his life and how we ought to live our lives.

Good News - Jesus the Baptizer with the Holy Spirit
Life is best lived with close ties to people who are also trying to follow Jesus, but the most important part of the mix is the Holy Spirit.  The Holy Spirit gives us boldness to speak about our deepest commitments.  He gives us the ability to follow God.  He is God's way of speaking to us when we need direction the most.

OUR WORK, GOD'S WORK: Work and the Mission of God
It's easy to look at your job as a means to personal goals, but what if you looked at work as part of a much bigger plan to set things right in the world? The Bible actually points us toward a way of life where everything that we do, even our work, can be part of God's mission to redeem and heal the world. In this message, Ps. Kelsey Shepardson teaches us what Bible means when it talks about "being a blessing" to others.

OUR WORK, GOD'S WORK: The Story of Work
We typically think of work either a curse or as something that we do so that we can do what we really love.  However, when we look more deeply into  reality, we see that work is an inherent good that humanity was designed to do.  Ps. Ike Shepardson encourages us to see that work is deeply connected to God's nature and to human nature.

Anything that is worth doing takes diligence. For apprentices of Jesus, this means a day-by-day and moment-by-moment focus on obedience to God. Ps. Tyler Zabor helps us to focus on following Jesus "today."  In doing so, we will have the rest that we need as we model our lives after Jesus.

In our culture, caring for the self is often seen as the ultimate good, but Ps. Kelsey Shepardson explains that obsessing about self-image is a distraction from our purpose.  The key to this is becoming an apprentice of Jesus who shows us the way of humility.  Through Jesus, we can be content with obscurity, knowing that we are treasured by God.

May 13, 2019
Anytime that our goals get out of sync with who God made us to be, it means that we’ve created an idol. This happens all of the time with relationships and sex. Ps. Ike Shepardson casts a vision for how beautiful love can be if you cast aside your idols. When you put God first, everything else that you need will come to you in its time.

#goals - what is idolatry?
Busyness, success, or how we look are idols that can control our lives, but Ps. Kelsey Shepardson invites us to reject anything that would steal our happiness and meaning for cheap imitations.  These counterfeits can never replace the only One who satisfies, and if we reject idols, our lives will inevitably look different.

EASTER - Hope Rises
Did Jesus actually rise from the dead? People think of faith as if it is completely divorced from evidence and reason. This is not a biblical understanding of faith. In fact, if we have good historical reasons to believe that Jesus actually rose from the dead, this changes everything. Ps. Ike Shepardson explains that we have good evidence to believe the resurrection, and if we do, then we need to take the step and start following Jesus.

Palm Sunday: Expectations
When we place our hope in the world (in others, in our jobs, in our circumstances), we end up disappointed.  Ps. Scott Lasher invites us to consider that following God is not about simple happiness or the fulfillment of our own goals.  Jesus didn't come to fulfill our expectations; he came to exceed them.

Our culture has a superiority complex.  Our pride and self-righteousness can even make us think that our own opinions are the highest authorities.  But what if there is someone who already has the superior name, position, power, and authority?  This is exactly what we learn about Jesus in the Book of Hebrews.  Pastor Tyler Zabor gives this week's message on the amazing authority that Jesus has.

True Love - God First
Myth #1 - Christianity is prudish about sex.  Myth #2 - Christianity is anti-singleness.  Ps. Ike Shepardson takes us into 1 Corinthians 7 to explain that sex is deeply affirmed in the Bible.  But no matter what our relationship status is, we need to put God first.

When people think about religion, they often think about rules that you have to obey to be acceptable. However, the picture in the Bible is that we have access to Jesus because of what He has already done on our behalf. Ps. Scott shares about how we can be close to Jesus now because Jesus has chosen to be with us. He is with us now, has always been with us, and will always be with us.
October 8, 2018
As humans, we were designed to belong, connect, and grow in relationship with one another and with God. Ps. Tyler teaches that although we live in a time that is corrosive to life in community, the church offers the world a community of hope and an outpost for the lonely. Christ’s work on the cross radically changes our relationship to God as well as one another.
