In our special end of year episode, Kate and Adele learn about the life of a professional football player in the women’s game chatting to Brighton and Hove Albion’s number 20, Victoria Williams.

A professional player since 2015, Victoria is now earning her living with Brighton and Hove Albion under manager Hope Powell. She describes her life as a pro and the huge changes that she has witnessed in the women’s game.

Hailing from Yorkshire, her career has taken her around the country and on international tournaments and she shares some of the highlights and experiences on our pod.

Adele, her Dad and Hottie Andrea have taken advantage of fans being allowed back in stadiums to go and watch a Seagulls match. We have the audio!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and in this episode of HotShots, we find out what the women of Hot Women FC should be doing to maintain good breast health and catch any lumps, bumps or other nasties early.

Kate speaks to Sue Brown from Albion in the Community about their Speak Up Against Cancer initiative and Adele explains how her Dad benefited from their work.

Kate and Adele catch up on the footballing action they’ve enjoyed from the comfort of their own sofas before they venture out to report from the Hot Women FC friendly game versus our friends The Crawley Old Girls (The Cogs). There are goals galore and some inspiring stories from members of the opposition!

This week Kate and Adele have got top coach and football guru, Nici Rice on the pod to answer some of The Hotties’ individual footballing queries to improve skills on the pitch.

But first we hear what Hot Women FC have been up to on the training pitch and how they have managed to play more than 10 hotties on one 5-a-side pitch without stifling space and play!

Hotties Sian, Amy and Erin bring their football dilemmas to Nici’s skills clinic. We hear how to tackle safely, how a goalkeeper can learn to dive Hollywood style, and how good positioning can help with ball control woes.

After several months on the sidelines the Hotties have returned to footie action with covid safe training sessions. Kate and Adele chat about how they coped with the national lockdown and look forward to new fixtures and plans for Hot Women FC.

Our guests this episode are Dawn Gledhill and Elissa Hammond from Leeds based InterMeGin FC. They share their experiences of restarting their football activities after the enforced shutdown and describe how their team of Mums took inspiration from their kids football games.

Hot Women FC may be on an enforced hiatus like the rest of the country but our desire to stay healthy, sane and in touch has inspired us to pull on trainers, comfortable shoes and rollerskates to cover 1500 ks in May between us!

In this episode, we hear how 18 Hotties are running, walking and roller skating throughout May to raise money for Rise, a Sussex-based domestic abuse charity.

We talk to Alex Hales from Rise about the charity’s work and how the lockdown has made their work even more vital.  And we head east to a rooftop in India to talk to an honorary Hottie about how she is managing to participate in our challenge while housebound under a very strict lockdown.

We talk to Marquita Smith, a personal trainer passionate about her work. She offers great advice on activities and exercises to create new workout habits whilst stuck at home. She explains how she has taken her work online to keep her clients fit during lockdown.
Ali Jay is a Hottie who works with Marquita to get fit for football - she shares her fitness secrets and big laugh! We also meet Stef and Katie, two more hotties who have great ideas to share about keeping healthy and active during these trying times.

With the clock ticking down, the Hotties have just over four months to get match fit for Dusseldorf.  In this episode, we talk to Eurogames 2020 Co-President, Gotz Fellrath, about preparations for the summer tournament and what joys await the 4000 expected participants.

CJ and Kate are joined in the pod by super striker and all round top Hottie, Yoli, who shares her footballing story, some competition advice and important German pronunciation tips.

7. Hotties v Homophobia

This episode of Hot Shots marks February's month of action by the campaign Football v Homophobia (FvH). Kate, Rebecca and CJ explore how abuse can scare fans & players away from the beautiful game and find out what's being done.

FC Hot Women is just one of one of the clubs that have supported this year's FvH Grassroots initiative to take action to tackle LGBT discrimination throughout the game.

Guest Rob Harris from Charlton Athletics's Proud Valiants shares his story and explains the work of his and other club's LGBT fans groups. Jade Harker from Sussex FA fills us in on work in Sussex to make football more inclusive. (She also gives some great advice for start up teams on how to apply for funding!!).

Before all that though, the final results are in from FC Hot Women's first competitive games - a small 5-a-side league. Hottie Andrea is back with us to share her views on how the final game went, her pick of the team, and there's a bit of that stalwart of football chat - the referee...

The Hot Shots team pop over to the Dripping Pan, home of Lewes FC to talk Equality FC.  As the profile of the women’s game grows, investment in it and the women on the pitch isn’t keeping up.  But one East Sussex club, founded in 1885, is making waves about that.

Karen Dobres is an elected director at Lewes FC.   In this episode Karen shares her football story and why she used to feel disconnected and threatened by the game.  CJ, Kate and Rebecca hear how Lewes FC is working to encourage women in their local community to both come and watch football and play the game themselves.

Away from talk of the fight for equality, there’s chat about how FC Hot Women’s training is going, Kate sets herself a challenge and CJ praises the the friendliness of the women’s recreational game.

5. Defying the years - keeping fit for footie!

The FC Hot Women team has been hit by several injuries since they started to play football last summer.  In this episode Kate, Rebecca & CJ talk fitness and the veteran player. Hottie player Adele recounts how she went to A&E in agony thinking she’d broken her ankle in one of the team’s early park kick abouts.

Meanwhile, Kate heads to the treatment room and gets hands on advice on managing injuries from a sports therapist and asks what older women can do to get fit and stay that way.

Hotshots CJ, Kate and Rebecca are back from their festive break and joined by the inspirational Sarah Messenger who founded the independent South London Women’s Football Club in 1994.

Sarah talks about playing football growing up in the 1970’s.  She can’t resist chipping a few cheeky insults the way of the Hotties but also passes them tips on training and setting up a new team.
