HB #88: Why Do We Work? Investing In Crypto
Do we work because of the stories we've been told? Or do we work because we need to make a living? Does work HAVE TO be hard? Or is that the narrative we've adapted? In this episode, Nate explores said questions and breaks down some of the stories we've been telling ourselves our whole lives.
The World is Full of Shit!
If you aren't frustrated by the scale of bullshit communicated on a global scale, then you're probably one of the people contributing to the communication. Either way, this episode is for you. In this episode, Nate explores the state of dishonesty that we find ourselves in, the frustration it causes, and the cure for our mental health. Nate proposes that 'truth' is boring. No one is interested in the truth. Hence the majority of the world is indulged in stupidity, dishonesty, and superfluousness. The Israel-Hamas war is the perfect backdrop for this phenomenon to play out, and boy is it...

HB#66: Erik Thomas - Nate's Review
Practice makes Permanent
In this next segment of Nate’s reviews of trending self-help, motivational speakers, he takes a look at Eric Thomas, who Nate admits, is one of his top, or perhaps favorite, motivational speaker.
Nate reviews one of Eric’s most popular videos as he speaks, or rather yells, at his audience, about the difference between average and successful people. You see and hear Eric bellow that success can be defined by those who are willing to give up certain behaviors in order to work harder, longer, and better than others. Eric shares that only those who walk the walk will be successful. Repeating positive behavior, actions, and effort will not only bring success, it will become easier to do more; muscle and brain memory will make these actions and benefits permanent.
Nate relates how when you are all in on your effort at what you are doing, you sometimes don’t need to eat or sleep. Time flies, and your energy levels are at a maximum. Nate and Eric relate how wasting precious hours on electronic devices is the stuff of losers and average people. You want to be successful? Plough through tirelessly.
Nate agrees with Eric that hardship is relative, as everyone’s background is different. Struggles can real but can't be compared to the struggles of others.
The last major impactful area of the video focuses on the concept that just when people start tasting success, they ease up a bit to enjoy the victory. Eric points out in his not-so-gentle style, that this is precisely when you press the gas pedal and not the brake.
Nate concludes that he loves Eric Thomas and everything he stands for and that the mantra for all of us should be that in order to be successful, follow a very simple rule: Outwork, outlast, outperform your competition, and your goals will be achieved.
Enjoy.
HB #65: Gym Guilt Explained
Watch Peer Specialist, Gneshe Bron, discuss how something as mundane as the act of exercising every day can be part of a larger framework of someone’s overall mental health, outlook, and way of living.
She shares that following the same daily routine is a very big part of a person’s mental stability and focus. For Gneshe, not working out even while on vacation, can bring on guilt, or a feeling of lack of worthiness. Gneshe suggests that sometimes breaking through the rigidity of routine, even at the risk of initially feeling unsafe or anxious, and learning to be okay with uncomfortable feelings, can be immensely positive for long-term personal growth.
Enjoy!

HB #64: I'm Not Your Guru - Nate's Review
In this episode of Humblebrag, Nate critiques the Netflix special ‘Tony Robbins; I am not your Guru,” and you soon understand that this is not a random choice. Nate admittedly gravitates to self-help resources as he shares that it changed his life and focus.
Tony Robbins is one of the legendary icons of self-help and Nate describes that the best motivators use various tools to elicit success at these workshops. While to some, the planning and forethought in these meetings may take away from the spontaneity of the moment at least in the background, Nate reminds you that impactful, positive takeaways from these meetings are not diminished by the planned music, or lighting or approach by Tony (including foul language), and everyone can come away feeling better about themselves, others, and gain focus and purpose.
Nate shows a deep appreciation for what self-help to do for an individual and no amount of cynical analysis of a Tony Robbins workshop should sway from the positivity that a professional like Tony Robbins can bring to your life and add value. Enjoy.

HB #63: Chester the Molester
Chester the Molester, or the Orthodox Community’s Dirty Little Secret Nate starts off the discussion by uttering just one word, “Molestation” and Hershy responds with, “OK, we are going to go there.” And indeed, there they go. The Chaim Walder case is brought up. Nate then shares that his second grade rebbe was charged with molestation. That sets the mood. Nate takes it to the next level when he shares a shocking personal revelation.
Nate and Hershy agree that the Ultra-Orthodox community continues to allow abuse and molestation because they protect the accused to keep the community intact. Molesters know inherently that they can continue without fear because they know that their friends and peers will believe them instead of the victims for any of several reasons; from the built-in community control and sexism, to religious extremism.
Nate and Hershy go from discussing the problem to potential solutions including providing sex-ed to pre-puberty males, which could allow for knowledge on how to safely channel their sexual urges. Finally, Nate and Hershy urge these communities to change their policies and allow police to conduct due process against accused molesters, rather than try to shield and hush up.
On a separate note, it wouldn’t be a Nate and Hershy podcast without controversy and perhaps a little wackiness. Somewhere in the seriousness of discussing molestation in the community, Nate and Hershy change course and posit that Arab aggression throughout Israel would be slowed down or even ended if the Israeli military simply flew over their territories and dropped a bunch of porn magazines. Yes, porn. And with that, I say enjoy.
HB #62: Beer, Chumus and Israel
Two Guys Talk about the Good, the Bad, the Ugly Nate and Hershy start the discussion wondering where can you find the best beer but soon the conversation turns into what Israel is known for and what it badly lacks. Nate shares his love for fresh, local chummus and how in Israel, chummus and pita (and schug) are a replacement for the American PB&J. Who knew? Continuing with food, Nate shares that Israel has the best kosher fast food, amazing fresh bread, BUT few high-quality restaurants.
Speaking of food, Hershy segues to his Birthright trip where he remembers sneaking out after curfew for a great Mexican burrito that tasted even better because he had snuck out to eat it.
Then Nate gets real and shares what Israel “is terrible at.” From Covid restrictions to medical care, Nate minces no words. Hershy tries to ease things up by saying that perhaps it’s simply a cultural difference.
In the end, all is well when Nate stops and reflects, “In America, we practice Judaism, in Israel we LIVE Judaism.” Perfection in a phrase. Enjoy.

HB #61: Making an Aliyah - Part 4 (With Sharon Mandel)
Nate and Sharon sit down in their living room and chat about all things Israel. How did their viewpoint change after a year of living there? Have the struggles changed their idealism of wanting to live in the Holy Land?
First, they discuss the cost benefit of buying furniture in Israel verses shipping new furniture from the US. After having been sure their decision to only bring a pallet of things and purchase everything else they needed in Israel, they are now looking at it with different eyes. The conclusion is that even with the high cost of shipping from overseas, if you are furnishing a whole house or apartment, it’s still going to cost less, and result in better quality, to bring everything over from the US.
Second is transportation – Nate and Sharon ended up buying their electric scooter. They love it! But it has its limitations. It’s great in their sleepy desert town, for getting around locally to pick up some groceries or doing errands. But, in the end, they admit that they really need to buy a car and are looking into getting a Tesla, since the price of gas is so much higher than in the States.
Third is their experience with socialized medicine while living in an area that is far away from more populated centers. From finding the right doctors to getting the prescriptions, paperwork, and appointments, they are not happy with medical care in the country.
On the good side, despite the negatives, they LOVE being in Israel! They have internalized the adage “Expect nothing and be grateful for everything.” Israel is a land of miracles and is warm, sunny, and beautiful. The quality of life and the chilled culture of the inhabitants is inspiring and something to learn from.
Nate sums things up on life in Israel:
Luxury and efficiency? No
Idealism and culture? Definitely…yes!

HB #60: Blockchain Technology & Cryptocurrency
Only Nate can take a topic like this and break it down in his inimitable style. Forget Technology, forget Software Architecture and Cross Border Transparencies, forget all of it. Nate breaks it down to its impact on society, on each and every one of us, both now and in the future.
Nate tells up front that he is looking at this topic on a holistic basis and how in its essence, Blockchain structure is a decentralized focus and that’s all we really need to know. He instructs us not to fear its element or the impact on how bitcoin cryptocurrency is, and will be, the currency of the future world. It’s value is not fixed and that’s not a bad thing!
Nate shares that Blockchain has a system built in to maintain transparencies, yet confirm our transaction has occurred via pooled transactions, yet not individually visible. While cryptocurrency can be volatile and thus an investor's best friend, there are stable coins for those who want to use the technology without losing sleep.
Finally, Nate tells us to “rethink value”. When we do that, we will see the advantages of using cryptocurrency and blockchain technology and learn to embrace it, not fear it. As Nate says, “Consensus rules”.
HB #59: Win the Fight, Lose the Marriage
We all have heard this phrase, and many of us have had to internalize it during very emotional moments in business and relationships. Nate and Hershy discuss the concept in a unique way; they believe it's not a given that you should lose the battle as the battle might actually BE the war. Do you say how you really feel, and damn the consequences? They mince no words and throw out very strong ideas regarding whether anyone even has to take a particular side on this at all. No spoiler alert; you'll need to listen all the way through and judge for yourself. I will warn you, don’t expect the typical reactions to what the battle & war phrase means. Then again, since when is there anything typical about Nate and Hershy in front of a mic? Enjoy! If you would like to support this podcast, please visit: www.humble-brag.com
HB #58: When Values Change
Listen as Nate and Hershy provide an in-depth discussion on the implications of people suddenly changing their value system and its impact on the world around them. Using the backdrop of a major event at Humblebrag where a former podcaster does the unthinkable - asking and receiving approval to have all his podcasts (amazing conversation mind you) removed from the site never to be heard again by listeners. Nate and Hershy delve into that event and then explore issues surrounding the consequences when one person in a relationship significantly changes and does or does not share that with their partner. Listen on…
