I Know What You Watched in the 90s (and early 2000s)Jun 27, 2023
47. Drop Dead Gorgeous
"Drop Dead Gorgeous" applies to so many things in this episode - the name of the 1999 movie we watched, Samantha sniffling and squeaking through illness, and our podcast coming to an end (allegedly). Thank you for supporting us and listening to these episodes even though you never knew when they would be released - we appreciate you all! We don't know when we'll be back, but we WILL be back, so we'll hear ya' later!
46. Not Another Teen Movie
This month we're talking about 2001s "Not Another Teen Movie" and how much we HATED it... okay, we kind of liked it, but it's so dumb... but it was also sometimes clever? Now that you definitely know what you're getting into when you press play, we hope you enjoy this PENULTIMATE (we're not excited it's ending, we're just excited about the word) episode!
45. Ghost World
This episode about 2001s "Ghost World" was filled with confusion about the movie's meaning and adoration for Blockbuster (we miss you!). We had a good time recording, so we hope you have a good time listening! But seriously... where are the freakin' ghosts?!?
44. Sugar & Spice
In today's episode, we discuss 2001s Sugar & Spice... but everything we say may not be so nice! That's probably not a surprise to our loyal listeners 😉
We've got three episodes left before we call it a wrap on this pod – any guesses as to what those movies will be??
43. Get Over It
Spend the day of love listening to us do what we love – talking about a 90s (and early 2000s) teen movie! 2001s “Get Over It” brought us joy, confusion, Sisqó, Martin Short (sometimes known as Steven Martin…) and Fairies, Fairies! Spirits, Spirits!
42. Jawbreaker
Editor's note: Cassie's audio drops around the 1 hour, 1 minute mark.
41. Scary Movie
Happy Halloween! We'll let you decide if 2000s Scary Movie, potentially the least-scary-yet-most-disturbing movie on our list, is a trick or a treat.
40. House on Haunted Hill
39. Whatever It Takes
Tune in to a history-making episode where Bryant has his positive opinion of 2000s Whatever It Takes flipped and reversed in the span of about 90 minutes (we know, we talk a lot). It'll make you laugh, cry, and also wonder... "Surely I wasn't as bad as any of these characters when I was a teenager??" Audience, we can guarantee that you were definitely better.
38. Sabrina the Teenage Witch
Let us remind you how great the Sabrina the Teenage Witch TV show was by talking about the less-good 1996 TV movie of the same name. And in case you’re worried you’ll forget that it was never released in theaters, we kindly mention about 60 times that it is a TV MOVIE.
37. The New Guy
We may not be huge fans of 2002's "The New Guy," but with the amount of celebrity cameos it includes, I think it's safe to say we're all at least a fan of SOMEONE who starred in it. Warning - we recorded this during a snow day. Warning warning - Samantha could not stop singing.
36. The Hot Chick
Hint: Their name rhymes with Shmecial Pest Trason...
Happy 2022 to our lovely listeners!
35. Never Been Kissed
There’s no real defense for 1999‘s Never Been Kissed, both for its existence and for its inclusion on our list, but try telling that to Samantha... We’re not sure if ”enjoy” is the right word, but here is our latest episode!
34. Disturbing Behavior
What is this movie about? Seriously, does anyone know? We tried to piece it together, but the only thing we're actually sure of is that "Razor" is the coolest phrase that never got its time to shine.
Happy Halloween!
33. Final Destination
October is back, which means we are once again choosing movies that scare us; some of us do it more willingly than others... our "Final Destination" chat includes our thoughts about what warning signs would get us off a plane, a fun little personification of death, and a vocal appearance by our youngest and cutest podcaster. Happy October!
32. Fear
31. Crossroads
30. Boys and Girls
You're going to have to commit for a long time to find out how we feel about the 2000 movie "Boys and Girls"... just kidding, we let you know that we hate it in the first two minutes. Sorry to the fans, but we still love Freddie Prinze Jr. (OF COURSE), and have an extensive list of specific and hilarious complaints to share with you.
Enjoy, and we'll hear you in 2021!!
29. Urban Legend
For our second and final spooky movie (for this year), we come together to freak out over Urban Legend, and also freak out on each other during our most chaotic episode yet so it's probably best for our nerves that the month is coming to an end - Happy Halloween!
Minisode #3
28. The Craft
27. The Basketball Diaries
"The Basketball Diaries" is definitely a different type of movie for the pod, so listen as we share our thoughts on drug addiction, Catholicism and pedophiles. And in case that list doesn't make it clear, here is the warning that this is NOT a fun sports movie. But there IS 90s Leo!
26. Empire Records
Welp, it finally happened, gang. We watched a movie where we related more to the adults than the teens, and we're pretty devastated about it. We hope you enjoy our episode, and let us know if you were more of a Hastings or an FYE kid!
*Edit 9/21: Audio was skipping throughout episode, so we had to re-upload it
25. Teaching Mrs. Tingle
We are here to un-ironically discuss 1999's Teaching Mrs. Tingle, and consider renaming the pod to "Another Weird Thing/I Have A Question..." And some of those weird questions are - was Mrs. Tingle actually mean, or actually JUST A QUEEN? Do we stan?
24. The Glass House
CASSIE'S BACK!!! And it's the first movie in a while that we've ALL enjoyed - so many victories! Enjoy our socially-distant chat about 2001's not-dancing-romcom The Glass House. We hope you listen to us... more than we listen to each other.
23. Drive Me Crazy
Since "Drive Me Crazy" is a phrase we are all probably using at least once a day, it makes sense that it's also the next movie we discuss. Join us as we revisit 1999, when the biggest issue was figuring out how to make over your neighbor so that he can make the hot jock, who was supposed to follow the rules and ask you to Centennial, jealous - we've all been there, amiright?
22. Center Stage
A quarantine wouldn't make a ballerina stop ballet-ing, and it won't make us stop podcasting! Listen safely from your home as we are joined by Jason, a.k.a. "Braids," to discuss the beloved-by-exactly-one-of-us movie, "Center Stage." Happy listening, and dream as big and ridiculously as Cooper's final dance number!
21. A Walk to Remember
Who better than a brother-sister duo to discuss the movie version of a romantic Nicholas Sparks' book? Probably anyone else, but that didn't stop us! Curl up with your loved one and enjoy our episode on the 2002 teen-dying-from-cancer movie, "Jamie's Sweater" - some of you may know it as "A Walk to Remember."
20. Election
"Promise, Progress, Peanut!" ll We're getting political!
Just kidding, but we are discussing 1999's Election and we fully got into the spirit of things by bringing plenty of debate topics to the mic. Hope you enjoy hearing us bicker - we mean - respectfully disagree with each other.
And we hope all of you Pure-as-Paul souls have a Happy Thanksgiving!
19. Idle Hands
Last week we played a trick by saying it was our last scary-time movie so enjoy this treat of one more themed flick! Spoiler alert: Boys love Jessica Alba. Happy Halloween!
18. Halloween H20: 20 Years Later
Is this movie scary, or not? Does it belong on this podcast, or not? Join us as we ask WAY more questions than we actually answer, and give an iconic killer the affectionate title of "Uncle Mike."
17. Scream 2
It's time to Scream again! We really put our logic hats on during this one and go through the inevitable "How"s and "Why"s of sequel killers - listen and learn with us!
16. Scream
The rules to enjoying this episode of the pod are much easier to follow than the rules of surviving a horror movie - you just have to press play! We are stoked to kick off our October horror movies with 1996's Scream. Find out if it holds up (SPOILER ALERT: yes), if that opener with Drew Barrymore is still a heartbreaker (yes), and if we're all twisted enough to vote on one of the killers as prom king (maybe).
15. Swimfan
Welcome back, fans, and thank you for being less crazy than Madison! Listen as we ponder how long she's been in Crazy Town, and consider whether Ben and Madison mayyyyybe were meant for each other? So brush up on your stalking skills and press play!
14. Varsity Blues
13. Clueless
AS IF we weren't going to talk about this 1995 classic! Listen to us discuss our mutual fondness of Tai and Travis, as well as our not-so-mutual feelings towards this movie. And if you don't want to listen to us talk about Clueless, could we interest you in Dawson's Creek, or Franklin and Bash? Or how about a flirting lesson from some obvious experts?
12. But I'm a Cheerleader
We're not cheerleaders, but we are people who liked this movie! On today's episode, we share our very first collective "First Time" to watch 1999's But I'm a Cheerleader, and had plenty to say about the set decoration.
Oh! And about disturbing sexual simulation pep talks.
Oh! And about one of our new favorite OTPs.
OH! And about Cocksucker!
11. Joy Ride
Don't BRAKE on this episode of I Know What You Watched in the 90s as we discuss Joy Ride, the 2001 terror road-trip movie starring Candy Cane, CB radios and pink champagne. Listen as Samantha, Cassie, Bryant, and our guest for the third time, Jason, discuss the omniscience possessed by Rusty Nail and the importance of The Golden Rule.
#FreeVarsityBlues
10. Summer Catch
Today we discuss Summer Catch - we hope you're more excited to listen to our episode than we were to watch it. As we discuss this movie filled with WTF moments, our returning special guest reveals his new life goal: #FreeVarsityBlues
9. American Pie
Do you think watching America Pie with a sibling is weird? How about talking about it with them? We did both. And Cassie was there, too! Plus, our very first special guest! Listen and enjoyably cringe with us at the raunch-fest that is this movie that Cassie definitely shouldn't have been watching when she was 10.
Minisode #2
Ready? Okay! We had a cheer-off! Who brought it? Who forgot it? Check out our Bring-It-On inspired minisode and find out.
8. Bring It On
We put the "joy" in "We completely enjoyed this movie"! Listen to us cheer on Missy and her realistic approach to cheerleading urban legends, our (continued) amazement at Gabrielle Union's ability to never age, and our new feature, "Which Character Can We Get Rid Of?"
Editor's Note: Sorry about the quality of the audio, there were some unexpected malfunctions.
Minisode #1
How did Ben and Will come together to create their murderous plan? We did some digging and found audio of a deleted scene that explains everything - just kidding, we imagined what that phone call was like, and thought our version was pretty funny. Listen and laugh with/at us!
7. I Still Know What You Did Last Summer
We Still Know What You Watched in the 90s (revival trailer)
Three years ago, we decided to share our extended conversations about late nineties/early aughts teen movies. We've really missed doing it, and have a long list of non-discussed flicks, so we're back to it, and we hope you'll listen!
