Upskilling Leaders and Managers: Episode 4 - Future of Leadership - Belonging, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

Upskilling Leaders and Managers: Episode 4 - Future of Leadership - Belonging, Equity, Diversity and Inclusion

So, we’ve arrived at the end of our podcast mini-series (sad face), but don’t worry, the final episode is a cracker. One of our best, if we do say so ourselves. Alright, we’ll turn down the smugness a bit.

This final podcast once again features guest experts Nathan Nalla, Director of Be The Riot and Sarah Hobbs, Managing Director of Talent & Potential Ltd. Sarah and Nathan join Gemma Glover, our Head of People, and Tom McDowall, our Head of Learning Design, to talk about the future of leadership – and the importance of Belonging, Equity, Diversity & Inclusion (BEDI).

Sarah is an expert on talent management and developing self-directed employees with a real passion for career management. Nathan’s company, Be The Riot, supports companies in creating an inclusive working culture through facilitated learning workshops, mentoring and consultancy services. So, you can be assured they know what they are talking about.

Episode 4 features conversations around defining the inclusive workplace and its benefits, to both people and businesses, as well as the leader’s role in championing BEDI. There are also discussions about whether unconscious bias training really works, leader skill gaps and challenges, plus much more besides.

We think you'll agree, this is one you don't want to miss!

Upskilling Leaders and Managers: Episode 3 - Future of Leadership – Upskilling, Hybrid, Authenticity and Failure

Upskilling Leaders and Managers: Episode 3 - Future of Leadership – Upskilling, Hybrid, Authenticity and Failure

Episode 3 of our Upskilling Leaders and Managers Podcast features guest experts Nathan Nalla, Director of Be The Riot and Sarah Hobbs, Managing Director of Talent & Potential Ltd. Sarah and Nathan join Tom Moore, our COO, and Tom McDowall, our Head of Learning Design to talk about the 'Future of Leadership – Upskilling, Hybrid, Authenticity and Failure'.

Our panel has some seriously impressive (and appropriate) credentials. Sarah is an expert on talent management and developing self-directed employees with a real passion for career management. Nathan’s agency, Be The Riot, supports companies in creating an inclusive working culture through facilitated learning workshops, mentoring and consultancy services. And that’s just one of the feathers in his sizable cap!

They discuss the shift in leadership after the pandemic (something we can all relate to!). They also cover success stories and struggles in Leadership Development, what the leader’s role is in making or breaking organisation culture, and what’s ahead. Finally, the panel answers questions about whether we want fallible, transparent, authentic leaders, and what the pitfalls are.

Sounds like a good one, right?! If you missed our last couple of episodes about psychological safety and getting personal in leadership, what are you waiting for? Give those a listen too!

Upskilling Leaders and Managers: Episode 2 - Getting Personal

Upskilling Leaders and Managers: Episode 2 - Getting Personal

Are you ready for our next podcast episode? We’ve had some great feedback about our first episode of the Upskilling Leaders and Managers podcast, but this one, in our opinion, is EVEN BETTER. That’s largely due to our amazing special guest; Emma Marie Davies, an L&D Consultant and founder of EMD Inspire. She joins Tom Moore, our COO, and Tom McDowall, our Head of Learning Design to get personal about management and leadership.

Emma is an L&D Consultant and founder of EMD Inspire, a UK-based people development company with a proven reputation for delivering development which is both engaging and motivating; and inspires real change in people and workplaces. Her background in retail, telecommunications, M&D and health care alongside Operational Leadership and Management ensures she’s able to put your people and business at the heart of your development solution.

Episode 2 has the panel discussing the fascinating (and vital) subject of getting personal in leadership. The vague-sounding title belies a plethora of interesting sub-topics, which include examples of great (and poor) management and leadership, as well as the difference between doing the job and managing others into doing the job.

Plus, conversations around managing upwards, taking ownership and accountability, and whether there is a truth behind people leaving bad managers rather than bad jobs… And obviously, many other interesting subjects are discussed too, but we’d rather let you discover those on your own. Who doesn’t love surprises, after all?

Upskilling Leaders and Managers: Episode 1 - Psychological Safety

Upskilling Leaders and Managers: Episode 1 - Psychological Safety

When leaders and managers upskill, the whole company benefits. It’s a common assumption that when people get to the top, they’ve got there by being the best. And, while true in many cases, there’s always room for improvement. This podcast helps managers and leaders become the best they can be. Our hosts and guests speak candidly of their own experiences, provide advice and discuss challenges.

Kicking off this 4 episode mini-series, our iAM Learning experts, L&D Manager, Gemma Glover, Chief Operating Officer, Tom Moore, and Head of Learning Design, Tom McDowall, define psychological safety and talk about how it contributes to higher retention, innovation and business success. The role of tech and much more are explored too.

Hybrid 101: Episode 5 - Changing Our Approach to L&D

Hybrid 101: Episode 5 - Changing Our Approach to L&D

In our final episode, Gemma Glover is joined by Tom Moore, COO of iAM Learning; Phill Lord-David, Head of L&D and User Experience; and Tom McDowall, Senior Instructional Designer as they discuss how best to approach learning and development in the new hybrid working world.

During the session we explain why you should take your learning strategy back to the drawing board and how you can adapt your learning solutions to suit your learners. It’s no longer a case of just debating digital vs face to face learning.
