Preparing for The Miracle
Have you ever found yourself praying for something you really want? So often we ask God for blessings and miracles, and when we don't get them we feel like He has forsaken us. The truth is we probably aren't being blessed not because God is forsaking us, but because we are not taking action. If we want to see God move in our lives we have to move first. In this week's episode, Nancy talks about preparing for the miracle and the responsibility we have to put some action behind our prayers. " by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead." James 2:17

Dads Matter: A Conversation About Fatherhood and the Critical Role They Play In A Child's Development
Anyone can father a child, but being a dad takes a lifetime. Fathers play a role in every child's life that cannot be filled by others. This role can have a large impact on a child and help shape him or her into the person they become.   Fathers, like mothers, are pillars in the development of a child’s emotional well-being.  Fathers not only influence who we are inside, but how we have relationships with people as we grow.  The patterns a father sets in the relationships with his children will dictate how his children relate with other people.  On this week's episode, Nancy sits down with her dad, uncle, and brother-in-law to talk all things fatherhood. They share their own experiences on being a father, how their own parents influenced their parenting styles, how they overcome parenting obstacles, and share sage advice for new and seasoned fathers alike.   Listen. Mental Health Matters: A Conversation About Mental Health & Why It's Your Responsibility
May is Mental Health Awareness month and on this episode of The Nancy Ruffin show, Nancy talks about why mental health is everyone's responsibility. In NYC, at least one in five adults suffer from depression, substance abuse, suicidal thoughts or other psychological disorders every year. Poor and minority residents are disproportionately affected by mental illnesses and are more likely than whites to be misdiagnosed or untreated.  Nancy discusses mental health in communities of color, the lack of effective resources,  and how barriers to treatment stop people from getting the care they need.  She also shares her own personal experience with losing loved ones to suicide, depression, and drug abuse and offers tips on what you can do to help those around you who may be struggling. Did you know in NYC: 20% of lower-income mothers develop symptoms of depression after pregnancy. 25% of the 230,000 veterans who live in New York,  are estimated to have PTSD and/or major depression (that's one out of every four veterans). 35% of NYC Department of Homeless Services shelter clients have a serious mental illness; it’s closer to 40% among homeless who live on the streets. Unexpected Outcomes: Pursuing Dreams You Never Knew You Had
Everyone always tells you to follow your dreams, but what if your dreams aren't what you're supposed to be doing with your life? What if following your dreams isn't tied to your destiny? What if God's dreams for you are greater than the dreams you have for yourself?  In this episode, Nancy shares how the dreams she once thought she wanted really weren't the dreams she was supposed to be pursuing. She discusses how being a mother was never a dream she had and how that desire ignited dreams she never knew she wanted.   This is a candid conversation about trusting God's will for your life and understanding that sometimes we have to relinquish our own selfish desire to control the outcome. Sometimes what we think we want pales in comparison to what God wants for us. If you find yourself unsure of what's next for you or if you're questioning or searching for God's plan for your life then this episode is a must listen!  Follow Nancy on her social platforms - Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube.
