20. Quality of life over quantity of life #stresstips
I read a Facebook post that really resonated with me. It said “choose life, choose quality over quantity”. When I was in the corporate world I was so caught up in quantity. I was definitely caught up in the rat race and going around that hamster wheel, basically not living my best life. I was “forced” to change my lifestyle, to jump off the hamster wheel, leave the rat race and choose a different life. I didn't think that a different life would be possible for me. I could not even imagine life without my corporate job. It was just beyond unthinkable for me.

I am moving cities with my family at the end of the month. A lot of planning is going into this. I’m arranging for the movers and we’ve got to get packed up. I’ve got to find a place where my child and pets are going to be when the move takes place, I don’t want them stressed on the big day. We’ve got to sell our home and find a new place to live. I’ve got to find a new school for my daughter that’s just as nurturing as the one she’s in now. I’ve resigned from my job and am finishing up all the loose ends. And so the list goes on. Today I was thinking back to my past, more specifically when I left corporate life. It is so interesting how I let my job define who I was, I became my job and I lost myself in my job. I was all about meeting deadlines, working towards corporate objectives and that sort of thing. When my job wasn’t there anymore, I was left with myself and I had to remember who I was at because I lost myself in my job, I let my job define me and I had to find myself again. When I left corporate two years ago, it was such a shell shock to the system.

For me in particular, my family is moving to a new city as my husband got a job transfer. I’m really excited about all the possibilities and adventure that lies ahead but it's one of those bittersweet moments. It's difficult not to have something to work towards or look forward to in our lives. It is a very strange place that we find ourselves in.

We have many roles in our lives, as mothers, as parents, as wives, as individuals, as working, we need to have boundaries in a lot of different areas of our lives.
