Today the helper we are looking to Mary Stolz of the Wichita Area Sexual Assault Center. We discuss the history of WASAC and the services they provide, misconceptions around Sexual Assault and the connection between Sexual Assault and Human Trafficking. We also talk about how you as a community member can become a safe person for a victim or survivor of Sexual Assault to come to, the appropriate way to support a disclosure and what we need from YOU to bring and end to Sexual Assault. 

Today the helpers we are looking to are Shelly Chinberg, Regional Area Director and Hayley Butts, Volunteer Manager of South Central Kansas Big Brothers Big Sisters. 

Their mission is to create and support one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. Listen to find out how mentoring is one of the most important factors in keeping kids safe from human trafficking and 7 reasons why you should become a mentor this fall.

Human trafficking has been placed in the spotlight on social media because of hashtags like #SaveOurChildren, #SaveOurKids, #SexTrafficAwareness. This has led to many people becoming passionate about tackling the issue of trafficking, sexual abuse, online exploitation and injustice in our world. Spreading awareness and becoming passionate about a worthy issue is a good thing, and can be a helpful thing. But, sometimes, we can unintentionally do harm in our effort to help.

In this episode, executive director Jennifer White has a conversation with Wichita Chief of Police Gordon Ramsay about the services and resources in our community such as, the Homeless Outreach Team, Housing, Social Workers, Integrated Care Team-Co-Responder for Mental Health Crises, the new program Lights On and the Youth Intervention Division that is being created.

In this episode, Executive Director Jennifer White, Education Coordinator Amber Gonzalez listen and learn from Terry Atwater, CEO and Executive Director of It Takes A Village, Incorporated regarding the recent protests in the Wichita area sparked by the death of George Floyd and how our community can move forward together as well as our responsibility as individuals to effect change. It Takes A Village is a transitional living environment that provides youth in foster care and other at-risk youth with a structured environment, educational and employment opportunities, life skills development and a place to call home. ICT S.O.S. has partnered with It Takes A Village for many years, we consider Terry Atwater a friend and admire his leadership in serving youth in our community.
