"SC__TER_D" with Shmucku
This week, BONES interviews Shmucku about “SCA__TER_D” from CONSUMED. “I love music that’s oversaturated with cool sound design, it’s just gotta have tons of bits and bobs of weird sounds to listen to. Every time you go back and listen to the track you can find something new... I'm really all about that.”
Shmucku is musician who likes endlessly mixing, cool/strange noises, and big chunky riffs. They love music that helps them better understand and appreciate themselves and other people. You can find their non-Blaseball music at https://soundcloud.com/automaton-7 and their art at https://www.instagram.com/4mb13nt_n01s3!
This episode of idol board was hosted by BONES, edited by Ada Quinn, transcribed by Merry, and produced by BONES and Tangereen Velveteen.

idle/bored with BONES
With some changes happening this week, we’ve once again dug into our idol/board archives! This week, Not Aoife interviews BONES about editing the plodcast idol board, from Fourth Strike. “I find it to be relaxing, for one thing. Editing, like I said, gets me in the zone in a way that I can just focus on it and like, you know, just crank some stuff out,” BONES says, explaining what makes editing idol board so interesting. “But it’s also really fascinating and interesting to hear the ways that so many incredible artists make the music that they do.”

This week, Aoife interviews Ethan Geller about "arturo huerta and henry marshmallow" from REDEMPTION ARC. "I kind of like that experience of being surprised by something and then wanting to listen to something by somebody because you don't know, how many different pieces of music are going to be in that track," Ethan explains his interest in multi-part songs. "It adds kind of like this weird, twisty form to everything that I'm into."

idle/bored 1? with Aoife
This week, Not Aoife interviews Aoife about the plodcast idol board, from Fourth Strike. “There are so many songs that I feel, like, kind of get missed. So, like, one thing is I want to show how literally there is not a single bad song and how amazing some of the stuff is,” Aoife says, explaining why she makes idol board, “and along the way learn some stuff about music theory and music creation that I can use myself.”

Hi, I’m Aoife! I’m the host of idol board, and also a co-writer. I’m pretty new to blaseball & the garages, but I’m loving being a part of the fandom and the band, and it’s been so much fun talking to everybody! You can find me nowhere except the Fourth Strike discord because social media scares me, but if you shout into the wind on a moonlit night, maybe I’ll hear it. Maybe.

"the twelfth trip around the sun" with autumn
This week, Aoife interviews autumn about "the twelfth trip around the sun" from we are the garages (vol 2). " I guess I'm also just excited about the great unknown. So much is possible, and we have no idea," autumn said, looking forward to season 12 of blaseball. "That's kind of why I wrote the song because I was looking forward to that unknown, and it's been a while since I’ve had it."

"curse of crows" with VigilantBaker
This week, Aoife interviews VigilantBaker about "curse of crows" from DEICIDE. "Still, the whole stance of violence and sort of lack of forgiveness- they’re not really something I personally feel very much. For better or worse, we tend to forgive people," VigilantBaker says, getting philosophical, "whereas, on the other hand, these crows, these forces of nature, they don’t really have these complex emotions; they don’t have these conflicts we might have within ourselves."

This week, Aoife interviews tegan eden about “into the shadows” from ENCORE. or, an incomplete and contradictory history of jaylen hotdogfingers, her trials and tribulations. "I feel that deeply, because we were puttin' out like an album a week, for a hot minute there and I felt, like, so much pressure to be on every single one," tegan says, explaining the emotional journey behind their song, "and when I finally let go of that, like... 'They will forget about me if I'm not on this next one,' I was so much happier making music."

"no gods, just blaseball" with zandterbird
This week, Aoife interviews zandterbird about “no gods, just blaseball” from the garages kill the gods. “I cheated a little bit on that song because like all my regular gear, like like my main guitar and my amp and like my pedalboard, everything is sort of locked away in a rehearsal room in another city. And that’s basically, thanks again to the pandemic going on," zandterbird says, recounting the difficulty in recording his song, and the unique sound it led to. "So I just had like a backup guitar, like a very cheap but reliable backup guitar and I basically plugged it into my interface and I simulated the amp and, like, all the pedals which allowed me to sort of explore more different pedal settings, sort of really dial in exactly that tone that you mentioned, that sort of like that closeness.”

"unfair deal" with riley
This week, Aoife interviews riley about “unfair deal” from DEICIDE. “Then, the bottom three strings all go down a semitone, which gives you this really weird chord that, honestly, I don’t even know how I’d begin to notate it,” riley says in regards to the spicy tonality of their DEICIDE hit. “It all seems to work despite the fact that it really shouldn’t… anyone who knows anything about music theory: please don’t come at me.” Listen to “unfair deal” by the garages at blandcamp.com.

"we are the band" with yana
Welcome to idol board, a Fourth Strike podcast where our host, Aoife (she/her), interviews members of the garages about their songs, the creation process, and possible inspirations. In this inaugural episode, yana (they/it) introduces the band. “You wanna make music? Here, come make music,” yana explains. “When it comes to the garages, … having such a collaborative mindset and such a constructive mindset has taught me so much about creating music.” Listen to “death of the god(s)” by the garages and all of the other music featured in this episode at blandcamp.com.
yana (it/they) is an enigma who originated in the mitten state. years later, California is now their home, veiled in the mists of the bay. it could be described as an actor, a guitarist, a singer, a lyricist, but it'd protest that it does none of these truly well, it's just too confident to not get away with it. in August of 2020 they helped found the garages, which is where you'll find them today. this is also its first band/published music project of any sort, and that's pretty neat. in December of 2020, it played August Mina in the hit off-off-like way off-broadway musical "Blaseball: The Musical - The Deaths of Sebastian Telephone". you can find it making noise and other nonsense on its twitter @villainousgoo.
