Measuring What Matters: Tracking Progress in our Homeschooling

Measuring What Matters: Tracking Progress in our Homeschooling

Are we doing well in our homeschooling? Are my kids learning enough? Are we making any significant progress? If you are homeschooling, chances are these questions have occurred to you.

While regular schools have standard methods of assessment, it can be challenging for homeschoolers to measure progress or even determine what kind of standards should we hold up to be able to say that our homeschooling is progressing well.

Last time, we talked about the importance of having a vision and mission to set the overall direction of our homeschooling journey. Today, we will try to discuss how we evaluate our day-to-day efforts and assess progress in our homeschooling.

Join the Mom’s Hangout No-Filter Conversation Gang with Coach Nove-Ann, Avic and Jihan. They will share their heartfelt experiences and lessons on their journey in teaching from Habits to character in their homeschooling journey.

Ideally, we all want to have solid mission and vision as we homeschool. The reality poses a lot of deviation from what we have intentionally set our hearts to do. Whether you are a new homeschooler or a seasoned homeschooler, join us as we reflect on some practical tips. Together, let`s review the true pulse of our homeschooling journey Join the Mom’s Hangout No-Filter Conversation Gang with our Coaches, Nove-Ann, Avic and Jihan. Teaching From Habits To Character In Homeschooling (Habitudes) Mom’s Hangout No filter Conversation

The habits of the child produce the character of the man.” As a homeschooling parent ourselves , We understand the unique challenges and opportunities we face in shaping our children's habits, character and mindset. As you make plans for the upcoming school year, along with the academics, let us consider which habits you want to work on. We may feel like time spent on habit-training is not as important as time spent on academics. But really, cultivating good habits is the more valuable time investment. “Because certain mental habitudes once set up, their nature is to go on for ever unless they should be displaced by other habits.” So the question is not Am I teaching my child habits? The question is Which habits am I teaching my child? Yes, other influences may play a role, but it is the habits learned from parents that have the most impact upon a child’s developing character. Is Homeschooling Right for Me and My Family?

Is Homeschooling Right for Me and My Family?

Are you considering homeschooling but don’t know if this is right for you? For many families, homeschooling is the best option; for many other families, it is not. Every year, my husband and I reevaluate what is best for each of our children. We understand that what works for one may not work for another — or me, their full‐time teacher. It is honest and wise to recognize that our children will each have different needs as they grow.

That is why I made this podcast to share our experiences on this matter. Join Coach Nove-Ann as she shares her journey. Please let us know if you have any suggestions or questions about any topic you want to discuss. Feedbacks are welcome.

Am I An Emotionally Safe Mom?

Am I An Emotionally Safe Mom?

Does parenting sometimes feel complicated to you? Consider the other choices we must make as parents in the twenty-first century. ~ "Is it okay that our baby sleeps in bed with us?" ~ "Should we let our baby cry it out?" ~ "Is spanking okay? Or should we do time-outs?" ~ "How do I respond to a temper tantrum?" ~ "Should we homeschool or send our kids to a private or public school?" ~ "How much screen time do I let my kids have?" To be quite honest, we were exhausted. That's why we decided to start with the end in mind. With the outcomes we most desire in our kids when they become adults. What we found is that emotional safety—more than any other factor. In other words, the posture from which we parent matters infinitely more than the parenting techniques. What is emotional safety? This mothers Month, join us together with Dear Sister Nove Ann Tan and Sister Jennie Magpantay in learning about How To Be An Emotionally Safe Mom. Why do we need to talk to our children about sex?

Why do we need to talk to our children about sex?

“When should I start talking to my kids about sex?”  We always answer that question with another question—When does the world start talking to your kids about sex?   Today is the best time to start talking. God’s truth is never off-limits. Ideally, we want to incorporate our faith and values when we engage our children on topics related to their sexuality and topics related to sex. This can be a daunting task even for the most seasoned homeschoolers. There are many ways of doing this but we want to discuss what actually worked and what did not work given our experience as homeschooling families. Is Unschooling Right For Your Child?

Is Unschooling Right For Your Child?

Have you ever asked yourself before, "am I giving the best kind of education for my child?" You might have wondered if the conventional school setup meets your kid's educational needs. Maybe even pursuing homeschool also occupied your thoughts in the past. But today, an approach to education called unschooling is increasingly gaining popularity to the same level as homeschooling.  Is this new approach the perfect fit tailored to maximize your child's learning? Let's find out what unschooling is and explore everything that parents, like you, need to know about this method Join Coach Nove together with her friends Jen and Bunny as they discuss and examine the benefits and drawbacks of Unschooling.  Get to know our friends: Jen is a wife to Mark, homeschooling mom of 2 girls: a teen and a 10 year old. Her advocacy is 21st century education and reading aloud to children. She is a work in progress and often fails, but fortunately God never fails! And also, you cannot talk to her until she has had her coffee in the morning. Follow her in You Tube account Storytelling With Jen https://www.youtube.com/@StorytellingwithJen Bunny was a former preschool, grade school, and college teacher who was aversive towards homeschooling. She had an epiphany one day while reading a book on discipleship. From that time on, she realized one of the ways she can disciple her children is through homeschooling. It has been 8 years and as with all things, God has been faithful. Bunny and her husband Pay have been blessed with four kids-- 2 humans aged 20 and 10, and two felines aged 2 and 1. 😊 Please let us know if you have any suggestions or questions about any topic you want to discuss. How Can We Model Mercy to our Kids?

The Lenten season offers us a special time to reflect on God’s greatest demonstration of love, grace and mercy. In Ephesians 2:4-6, it says, But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— We are called to demonstrate the richness of God’s mercy to others, and it can well begin in our homes. Do Not Lose Heart : Praying For Our Kids

Do Not Lose Heart : Praying For Our Kids

As parents we should be asking ourselves, "Is prayer for our children a normal part of our daily lives … or is it something we do only when we feel helpless?" The truth is, we can never pray enough. We need power from God to do all He's called us to do, and so do our children. In addition, we are raising our children in a world with values contrary to our own – a world that seeks to attack and destroy our children. We can't defend them against all of these attacks, but we can always pray! Join Coach Nove as she shares her learnings on the importance of praying for our kids. Lessons I’ve Learned About Discipline And Grace In Our Homeschool Journey

Lessons I’ve Learned About Discipline And Grace In Our Homeschool Journey

What comes to mind when you think about discipline? Do you have a specific strategy when it comes to disciplining your kids? An overall desired outcome that you use to guide your actions in teaching and training?

As homeschooling parents,  We are with our kids often around the clock; we are going to see them mess up, make bad choices, show reluctance to do school work, fight with their siblings, and much more.  While everyone has their own opinions and strategies for discipline, I wanted to share some thoughts and what I’ve learned over the years we’ve been homeschooling. Maybe it will encourage you, and even help you look forward to the opportunities we get to point our kids to Jesus.

Join Coach Nove as she shares her learnings on what to do if your child refuses to do homeschool work.

What If My Child Refuses Do To Homeschool Work?

What If My Child Refuses Do To Homeschool Work?

“What can I do if my child refuses to do his homeschool work?” “I don’t know how to get my child to do her assignments. She just sits there for hours and doesn’t get it done!” I often hear questions like these from tired and frustrated homeschooling parents who simply don’t know how to get their children to do their school work! I have also discovered that there may be a variety of causes for this problem. It’s extremely important for parents to carefully search out the reasons for the child’s refusal to work, though, in order to apply the best solution.
