Official Illuminating Mycelium Podcast Trailer

The Illuminating Mycelium Podcast is all about everyday people.  We share their stories and we learn from them.  We speak with folks just like you: entrepreneurs, photographers, artists, musicians, teachers/educators, active community members, fathers, mothers and so on.  Instead of giving you another mouthpiece about how some famous movie actor is struggling in their 7th home during quarantine baking cookies, we’re hitting you with the stories that matter, from people in your neighborhoods that look just like you.  So come tune in.  We’ll leave you more knowledgeable and inspired in 30 minutes or less.  We....are.....the.......mycelium.

Side note: our official trailer features parts of the song "Illumination" by Natural Flavor, which was inspired by the podcast.  Special thanks to Tim, Bri, Cara and Chris for starring in the intro and providing their musical talents to create such a beautiful song.  To hear the song in full, you can skip to the very end of each podcast episode to tune in.  And to learn even more about us, check out our about section on our website here.  You can also subscribe to our newsletter and get weekly updates on all things everyday people by clicking here.

#4 Balance in the Foster Care System & Beyond with Jason Sweeney

#4 Balance in the Foster Care System & Beyond with Jason Sweeney

In this episode, we feature our conversation with Jason Sweeney, a local maintenance worker at a housing complex inside of Little Earth in Minneapolis.  Join in and listen as we discuss wizardry, pets, identity, what it was like going through the foster care system in America & what we can do going forward, working with your hands, finding balance and more. As part of our mission to highlight everyday people and learn from them, I want to shed a light on foster care and provide some resources whether that be educational or taking it all the way and sending an application.  As Jason mentioned, one of the most urgent needs of the system is more volunteer parents.  There are multiple factors involved such as screening & regulations and to be blunt, not everyone can be a parent.  With this in mind however, I would encourage anyone that is considering parenthood to keep an open mind toward adoption.  Aside from helping an adolescent in need, there are also many benefits to adoption both financial and otherwise.

#2 Post-Halloween Special- The State of Education in America with Alicia Campos

#2 Post-Halloween Special- The State of Education in America with Alicia Campos

This episode features our conversation with Mrs. Alicia Campos, a local elementary school teacher and mother who is also actively involved in her community.   As a side note, as many of you know, teachers in America are often forced to pay for their own classroom supplies and materials despite increased awareness to this issue.  To this end, I have included a link to Alicia's Amazon Wishlist for her classroom supplies for those of you who would like to help contribute.  That can be found here.  In this conversation, we cover a wide range of topics but mostly center on education and what it's like being a teacher in the current climate.  We start out by diving into Alicia's background and how she got into the teaching profession as well as her family life.  Then we transition into what it's like being a teacher in America right now in the midst of a pandemic.  Expanding on this further, Alicia recounts to us ways that the community can better support educators as well as education as a whole.  We also discuss ways that students and their families are forgotten despite their hidden or unknown contributions.  With multiculturalism so closely tied to education, she gives her thoughts on how we can better practice it in a way that cuts across partisan lines.  Lastly, we cover mental health and self care as she gives us tips on finding balance.  We end by talking about Halloween and how she celebrated it with her family.
