Impact Effectively !

In this episode I talk with my long-time friend Jill Harrison in Bolton who is an inspirational NLP Trainer and NHS Practitioner working with families in the community. Jill talks about the power of just small shifts in language to promote understanding, to bring people alongside and prepared to work with her and her colleagues.

In this fifth episode I talk with my friend Anniina Hukari in Helsinki about the importance to people and organisations of finding their passion. When people are passionate about themselves and what they do, they are not only at their best, they engage more effectively with others around them which is turn has a dramatic effect on productivity and sustainability in organisations. And Anniina urges that it is important to be present and enjoy every step on the journey to find that passion!

In this first episode I talk with Elli Papadopoulou whose business is In Vivo Fertility based in Athens, Greece. She works with couples who are embarking on IVF treatment in a way that is complementary to the work of their medical support. She helps people shift their mindset by changing their language….making sure the body and mind are working together.

In this last podcast in this Season I look at the question: do you have a ‘Fixed’ Mindset or a ‘Growth’ one? If its ‘fixed’ we may be holding ourselves or others back – developing a ‘growth’ mindset might allow us to do just that – GROW. Recognising which is key to doing something about it …and reaching our potential. Watch or listen to consider where you are, and allow yourself the choice !

It can be very unusual for someone to really pay full attention when we are speaking – or for us to fully pay attention to others. But what happens when one person really does give that delicious attention – how does that help the speaker? the attention giver? And their relationship? Worth giving it a go to see ?

When we look back and reflect on our conversations we can often see things only from our own viewpoint and maybe be none the wiser. If on the other hand we literally step into someone else’s shoes even briefly, we can gain insight and new learning that can last a lifetime ! In NLP this exercise is referred to as Perceptual Positions and in my opinion one of the most valuable exercises we can do!

It is tempting to apply a different yardstick when looking at others’ behaviour to when we consider our own. Yet when we think about the effect that the behaviour of others has on us – this is giving us a good indicator of how we might be impacting too. There is good evidence that we what we notice in others may be somewhat reflective of ourselves good or bad. So paying attention to our impact and making a different choice is likely to give us more the results we want.

Do we think we are ‘telling it like it is’ or do we realise we can only really tell it like we see it ? It can be tempting to think our view of reality is the correct one and end up at odds with others. In this podcast I look at how view of the world is formed and how we might choose to update it.

Can we ever quite know how others see us or the impact that we really make on others ? Perhaps the worst thing we can do is to think we know and not stay curious. 

In this first of my new series of podcasts based on my book 'The Intention Impact Conundrum', I start to look at the conundrum of how we can make our impact match our intentions. First we need to know about our impact by being open for feedback and being willing to share our views and ideas.  Dodging feedback won't just save us from criticism - it will block the praise and affirmation too !
